Jane watched as Flamsteed put one of the broken orbs back together with a flick of his wand. Well, that answered that question--the prophecies weren't all lost forever. She was not sure she put much stock in prophecy in general, but still, she was glad.

Wait, what?!? This wasn't even her Department, she had wound up here quite by accident when the Entry Hall dropped her off at the wrong door. As a matter of fact, she had been on her way to Flamsteed's office to introduce herself and report for work on this, her very first day. But somehow it no longer seemed like a good idea to bother the man further. She supposed she had introduced herself, in a way, and that would have to do.

But she didn't know a thing about cataloging orbs, and she really wanted to see her own office at the Death Chamber. "Are you going to be able to handle all this now? I really need to report to my own area now," she said to the other witches and wizards.

Well, at least Adam, Laurel and one of the others were ok, because nobody else seemed to acknowledge his question. As for why or how the rock golem had gotten into the DOM? Well, Adam stopped asking questions about things like that not long after a floating brain took over his body.

Sometimes...

- it was best just not to know. Especially because his understanding of the rock golem was Airey had created it and something had gone very very wrong.

Adam looked toward Laurel and then after Airey. Something was definitely wrong there. From the attitude, the rudeness, the downright-short-temperedness, but most importantly the fact that Airey hadn't even tried to capture the golem so they could study what went wrong. Nope...there was nothing but fluff and feathers and bits of fabric and he wasn't sure a mending charm would put that Humpty Dumpty back together.

And speaking of putting things back together. He was a bit surprised that Airey was able to salvage the orbs. He had always been under the impression that once broken, the prophecy was gone for good. "Laurel..." His voice housed a thousand questions as he turned to make eye contact with the seer's - ah face.

As Airey left the hall, Catherina abandoned cleaning up and drifted towards Lauren and Adam. She eyed the row that their boss disappeared into, craning her neck around to make sure that he had truly left, before whispering to the pair. "Is he always this...hostile?"

Unfortunately, this had been her first face to face contact with their Department Head since her return, and needless to say, it had been chaos.

Before Laurel could say or do anything Adam had taken a hold of her and turned her away so that he shielded her from any rubble from the golem. A very noble and heartwarming gesture but she was perfectly capable of shielding herself from harm. When the feather’s rained down over them and the golem had been reduced to mere pillows again by Airey, Laurel glanced around at the others. Nodding she interjected. "I'm okay too, no injuries." Which was more than they could say about the damaged and destroyed orbs at their feet. Looking over at Adam she just smiled. "I told you, you wouldn’t die." It wasn’t in his cards to die for a long time.

Hearing Jane’s question Laurel furrowed her brows slightly as she looked down at one of the leaking orbs at her feet while answering. "Fortunately all the orbs prophecies are catalogued in writing. If the orbs are too damaged beyond our repair, then yes the prophecy that it kept will be lost forever." Luckily she had made sure to keep a written record of things too or they’d be in deep trouble with the minister of magic.

Laurel was about to take out her wand and start repairing orbs when of course the newest employee in the department had to ask the million galleon question. Turning her attention to Hallie she answered. "Because we had trouble with the same rock golem a few years ago too. It disappeared on us when we battled and searched for it last time. We just assumed that it was gone, but at least now it’s gone for good." Sigh.

Producing her wand Laurel gave her wand a few flicks and watched how some mended orbs retook their places on the shelves. Jane poised some thoughtful things but now wasn’t the time to consider who and why. Before Laurel could say so however Airey growled out orders to clean up the mess. She silently watched him leave before she shook her head and turned to Adam who’s voice held a hundred questions in just one word. Sighing deeply Laurel said with a look at Catherina. "No, Airey isn’t usually hostile at all. Something is up with him." This was though not the time to dwell on why. "Adam, can you help us with the repairs or do you prefer examining the golem remains?"

Well, Jane was relieved to hear that--the thought of losing so much knowledge hurt her to think about. And...did she say they'd had problems with a rock golem last year?! One appearance of such a thing was surprising enough, let alone multiple occurrences. She seemed to assume both times involved the same rock golem, but the one they saw today might not necessarily have been the same one. No one seemed to think the way this one had exploded into stuff and feathers was at all remarkable.

Finishing cleaning up all the debris on the aisle she was in, Jane walked back out towards the other wizards and witches, hoping to make her way out of the Hall before the day was quite over--she thought she should probably make an appearance in the Death Chamber at least once on her first day at work. She approached them in time to hear the woman who'd been talking comment on her new boss.

Well, that was a relief--Jane was wondering if she could tolerate being saddled with another unpredictable and temperamental employer. She'd heard he was eccentric, but not bullying. No one had spoken to her directly for a while--she wondered if this might not be a good opportunity to make her escape, and began to make her way toward the entrance to the Hall.

The Unspeakable {Laurel Vance-Rose} was correct, it was the very same rock golem of years gone by. A pity that the pillows with which it's body had come together by the magic teeming in the Department of Mysteries could never be mended back to their former shape by the wands present. Just piles of feathers, fluff, and shredded fabric for now.

Also curious may be the way in which the department head so effortlessly repaired those orbs. Like the magically stained former pillows, no other wand present could return the prophecy orbs to their true shape. Any who tried would find their efforts futile against their shattered remains.

....how very curious indeed....

"oly vhen you try to eat his pet rocks, or ah... lick his tie kollection," Adam told Catherina. He was rubbing his nose again because he could feel another sneeze building.

He was lost in this thoughts as he watched Airey's retreating form disappearing. "Vhat?" he asked turning back towards Laurel. "Oh...Golem..." There were enough broken orbs and he didn't need to add to the problem/collection/pile. He pulled out his wand and started waving it around. Some of the feathers and fluff and stuffing rolled towards him. It collected in a pile and he tried a few version of the Reparo spells. As he suspected, this egg was not going to be put back together.

"Laurel," he called after a few minutes, uncertain of who was still in the room. "Laurel," he said again. "Someone? Can you try fixing zis? Mein vand...it must be a new moon." Or he just really sucked at charms (which was true too). But his wand? Well, it was super temperamental around a new moon. If it couldn't be fixed, he'd box up the remains and take it over to the charmists so they could take a look at it.

'only when you try to eat his pet rocks or lick his tie collection.' Laurel overheard Adam say to Catherina, in response to Airey's very peculiar behaviour. She was silent as she tried to focus on reparing a few of the orbs by casting a number of different spells, but all attemps we're futile. The orb's remained broken at her feet. It was odd and very frustrating if she like it seemed had to admit defeat and that they needed assistance from elsewhere in the ministry.

Laurel had watched how Airey without effort had put an orb back together before retreating to his office, which was why her own futile attempts hurt more. Turning her attention to Adam after he too had tried and failed to put an orb back together, she said as she walked closer to him. "I'm still here Adam, and you aren't the only who's spells can't mend these orbs. My attempts have proven to be futile too. It's very odd since Airey could mend an orb with ease and we can't. Any ideas on why?" Laurel asked and the question was directed as much to Adam as to Catherina and Jane.
