Barns and Pastures One of the areas on the grounds Professor Paton encourages students to get comfortable visiting is the barns, with the connecting pastures nearby. The barn is conveniently located by the meadow clearing in which Care of Magical Creatures lessons are held when the weather is good. Within the barn an array of magical creatures can be located, ranging from flobberworms to the winged horses and hippogriffs to everything in between; magical and mundane alike. This is also where specially approved pets are housed during the school term. The inside of the barn is spacious in order for the creatures to feel most comfortable. Each has their own stall specially designed for them. Most animals within the barn or pastures are rated X, XX, or XXX. Some animals reside in stalls, others are in coops or cubbies, some are in the loft above your head, and some are just regular mundane barn creatures. Each area is magical expanded inside to give the creature(s) maximum comfort and enough room should they need it. Please remember your skill level, year, and familiarity around animals when visiting the Barn and Pastures. If you have special permission to have a non-traditional pet, this is where it will stay during the school term. SPOILER!!: Creatures housed in the Barns and Pastures |
For you know who If there was anywhere at Hogwarts that reminded Rajesh of home it was the barns and pastures that made up the Care of Magical Creatures area of the school. After all, he had been exposed to the sights and sounds present there from the time he had first lived with his fathers. The roars of dragons almost soothing like a lullaby, the flights of hippogriffs a common welcome sight at the preserve. Approaching across the grassy clearing from the main grounds, the sixth year made his way towards the barn to see what was what with the creatures within. A quick peek at the flobberworms, puffskeins and bowtruckles, Raj stopped at the kneazles to give the more friendly on the kneazles a good scritch of hello. The young man unable to keep the smile from his face at the calming purrs he was rewarded with even as the much larger occupants of the barn appeared to have noticed a presence. |
We are here! Making her rounds around the barns, pastures and the reptile room was almost like being home and working at Scamanders Zoo or checking on the griffs and dragons for Adi and Benny. Life had kept her busy before and it still was keeping it busy, in a refreshing change of pace. Pushing the large doors open and stepping into the barn, Hady was greeted with the sounds of many happy creatures. Hello, everyone. She was very happy to see all of you too. A small laugh slipped past her lips as she stopped at the first enclosure that housed the flobberworms and spotted a very familiar face. "Well hello there, Raj. How are you this morning?" It came as no surprise at all to her to be seeing the young man in here. |

"Hi Aunt Hads," he greeted in return as he stood back up, his hands absently brushing off his knees. "Fancy meeting you here..." he mused in a jest that made it very obvious who his parents were. |
Quote:
Walking over towards where Raj was now standing, Hady made sure to give every single creature within reach a gentle pat or little ear/hear scratch. "Oh, my! You sound just like your fathers when you speak that way," she laughed softly. It was very clear who his parents were but they had been her best friends since Hogwarts and their own children were raised together so it was no wonder she knew this manner of speaking and expected it. "So what brings you to the barn today? Looking to help out or just visiting everyone?" |
Quote:
“Visiting for sure…” The barn and its surrounding areas were the places he found the most comfort. “but I could be persuaded to assist if something was needed.” Not that it would need much if any real persuasion. Taking care of the animals at the reserve may have served as part of their chores growing up, but it wasn’t like they were too harrowing a task. Unless one happened to be pranked by a younger siblings and covered in less than savory items |

"That's perfectly fine. I'm sure I don't need to follow you around and can trust that you'll take care of these creatures like you would at home?" She smiled warmly at him, knowingly, because she wouldn't expect anything less from him. "Feel free to visit with whomever you like. I'll be making my way around the barn doing various things here and there if you need me, alright?" Now that didn't mean that she wouldn't continue chatting with him because of course she would and he was more than welcome to tag along and help her out if he liked. |

Having finished greeting the smaller creatures, the sixth year figured to move onto the ones with their own stalls like the aforementioned hippogriffs. And the Thestrals that he could now see thanks to events in his first year. On second thought… “What will you be working on?” he asked his aunt curiously. |
Roulette! Although he wasn't particularly good with animals, and didn't have the natural affinity that some others displayed, Reuben did have a deep seated curiosity about them. About everything, actually, but that was beside the point. Today he was curious about the animals that Hogwarts had, and so he'd made his way down to the barns to have a poke around. Quite literally. Because on the way down to the barns, Reuben had found a super long stick, and of course he'd had no choice but to pick it up. Now he was using it to poke around - at the walls of the stalls, the straw and other things that one would expect to find there. He was a little wary of the animals, though. |
Different TLs! Quote:
Hadleigh was already walking around the barn and looking into each enclosure and stall. "Right now I'll changing out all of the water so they all have fresh water to drink and getting rid of any left over food from breakfast time." This was a base walk through that she liked to do throughout the day. Making sure things were clean and the water and food were fresh. Cleaning up messes was another thing she did often so that there was less of a chance of anyone or any creatures stepping in messes. Quote:
From where she currently was all the way in the last stall currently brushing one of the Abraxans it took her a moment to get around to the front of the stall and peer over the gate so she can try to see who had come in. "Hello?" she called out loud enough to be heard but not where she would frighten any of the creatures. She couldn't make out who it was right away as they had their back to her, therefore she wasn't really sure what all they were looking at either? The barns could be rather interesting if one wasn't used to such a place. |

"Alright..." Yep, he could help with that, the sixth year following the professor along ready to assist. His wand out occasionally filling up a bucket with water from its tip. Passing near one of the stalls housing the collection of winged horses that resided at Hogwarts, he found himself being nudged by a silvery grey snout apparently trying to get his attention causing a chuckle. “Hello to you, Cygnus,” he greeted the Granian as he turned his full attention to him and his companion, Eridanus, giving first one and then the other a nice head rub. “We didn’t forget about you two,” he assured them, reaching down for a bucket to take of things. However, before he could take out his wand, the bucket seemed to be filling up with water. Rajesh shook his head and focused, thinking it just hadn’t been as empty as he had thought. But no…the water level was rising and he dropped it to the floor with a clash in surprise. What in Merlin’s beard! |

After a moment, Reuben dropped his stick. Bored of poking around with it, he was about to poke his own head around some of the stalls and see what was going on in them, but then a voice sounded, and he stilled. "HELLO," he called back. "Who's there?" Did it occur to him to turn around and look? Nope. |
Quote:
She was about to thank him for his help when she heard the crash of the bucket against the floor and then.. there was water everywhere. "It's alright, these things happen sometimes. Are you alright?" Accidents happened to everyone, it was no cause for alarm. Quote:
With the large brush in hand, she exited the stable and closed the gate securely behind her. "Professor Paton." The Care of Magic Creatures professor in case he had forgotten. Walking through the barn now, she returned the brush to where it was normally kept so that it wouldn't end up misplaced. This also brought her closer to the young boy allowing her to see if she recognized him yet, being she was new to Hogwarts this year as well. "You're welcome to visit with the creatures if you like." |
Quote:
It was the honest truth. He didn’t know…if he was seeing things...if he was doing things. “One minute it was empty…or I thought it was empty…the next it was full,” he said trying to explain. The sixth year finally turning to look at the woman looking a touch sheepish. “And my wand was still in my pocket.” So he wasn’t casting the water spell like he had been previously when filling up the water buckets as they worked. |
Quote:
Taking in what was said, a glance to the bucket laying on the floor of the barn and water everywhere it was clear something happened. She had heard the clatter and splash of water. "It could be a strange case of accidental magic though you are older so... that doesn't seem right. Have you been feeling ill or anything recently?" A magical illness could be the reason for this. It could be something else entirely though and nothing they had to worry about. "Seeing as you are a sixth year though, have you tried any wandless magic at all?" It was very difficult magic but not at all unheard for students to attempt looking into because it was interesting. |
Quote:
“No,” he said with a shake of his head registering her wonder on his health. “I’m feeling fine.” Other than this mystery of course. Cue another shake of his head at her next question. No attempts at wandless magic here. “I had considered it last year but OWLs took so much focus.” Plenty of time to work on trying to learn if he could manage it once he got past the worst of the exams. But wandless magic had also come up recently. Of course! The scene with Ash. "This isn't the first time that something weird was happening," he remarked, working on the words to explain it. "A few days ago, there was a situation where flowers were randomly growing. Ash had asked if I had been doing it, which I wasn't. And as time wore on, it seemed more like it had been her somehow controlling their growth. " But what if it wasn't? What if both times had been him? |
Quote:
Watching his face it was easy to see that Raj was think over what she had asked him. However both questions received a 'no'. "Wandless magic isn't easy and putting it aside while focusing on exams was very smart." It requires a great deal of focus and lots of time and practice. His OWLs year wouldn't have been a good year to try to start working on that. Oooh? Now this was interesting. And important. "Flowers? Randomly? Can you tell me a little more about that? Where what you both when these flowers appeared? What was happening? Was anyone else around at the time?" The more that her nephew could tell her the better. Maybe they could figure this out together and solve the problem. |
Quote:
The sixth year thought back to the day in question to expound upon what happened the best he could. “Well, we were at the Boris the Bewildered statue just talking.” No need to go into the whole spying on Ash drawing and chatting with the statue and surprising her with his presence before that. “And at one point these little greyish, blue and purple flowers had started to appear along the cracks of the stonework. We don’t know exactly when it started or what was the cause.” |
Come play with us plz He'd been headed out to the grounds to try to work on some homework outside in the brisk air. Perhaps it was too cold, but with a couple jumper options and a very thick scarf Evan had decided the fresh air would do his concentration some good. At least... that had been the plan. But he really should have learned by now plans often went awry, as he made his way outside and started to feel... odd. Something that was becoming a more normal than he would like occurrence. And before Evan could give so much as a groan as he reached the outdoors, he'd shifted and with it - his annoyance seemed to dissipate as well. Because now he was OUTSIDE. And there was so much SPACE. With a loud hum of approval, he was off like a rocket - stampeding his way out towards the pasture. Don't mind him, just alpaca!Evan - living his best life. |

"These flowers appeared out of nowhere indoors.." Now this was curious and definitely the work of magic of some sort. "And you're positive no one else was around? It was only the two of you?" The more they narrowed things down the better. The flowers were brought forth by either her nephew or Ashley. Either way this was something she was going to have to mention to her colleagues. If something strange was going on it could be much bigger than these two students. "How do you feel about trying to see if you can control this? If it's really something to do with 'your' magic or if there's something else here at play?" It was up to him but she thought it a good idea to get a better feeling at what might really be going on. Quote:
So far it was the typical afternoon stroll. Nothing really going on, not very many people outside at the moment. It was nice. Peaceful. But what was that?! Something was running her way an- Was that?! Blink. Blink. BLINK. When did Hogwarts get an alpaca?! Keigh stood there and stared. It was like the Entrance Hall all over again with the bubbles, steam, flowers, butterflies, disappearing acts and wombat. Why it even surprised her, she didn't know but it did. For several seconds all she could do was watch the alpaca run around. Now her cat, Kanga on the other hand had something entirely different on her mind. She darted off after the alpaca as if she wanted to play?! What in the name of Merlin was she doing?! "Kanga! Come back!" Keighley didn't know what else to do but run after her cat and the alpaca. |
Quote:
"You mean, just anyone is allowed to walk in here and see them?" he asked, looking around some more. Seemed like a silly idea, if you asked him. What if people came and let all the animals lose? Not that he was planning anything like that, of course... |
Quote:
It was only when the sound of At least, he was minorly annoyed, until he realized where he was standing and lowered his head to graze. Mmm, grass. |
Quote:
Control this? Could he really try to control something that he didn’t know how it was happening in the first place? “I guess so…” Rajesh answered at first. “I mean I don’t want to cause any accidents.” Other than just spilling water like he had when being caught by surprise. And what if it didn’t stop when he wasn’t holding a vessel that could hold the water he was apparently producing? The boy raising both hands to look at them as if waiting for water to suddenly start flowing again. |
Quote:
"That is the point, normally, yes. Some students have their companions housed in here as well." With very special permission of course. Hady did have her ways of knowing what was happening in and around the barns so that there wasn't any serious mischief taking place there. After all she did need to ensure the safety of all the creatures in her care. Quote:
Hadleigh nodded her head. "It's alright. If anything happens I'm right here." If this was some sort of issue with his magic knowing what was going on would be a good thing. Not being on his own would be even better should he not be able to control whatever may happen. She took a step back to give him some space, watching his movements. "Try just relaxing and not forcing it." All magic was different and some was very temperamental. Quote:
The Hufflepuff stood there in a moment of confusion and awe as she watched her cat run around with an alpaca. Really, where was the camera when she needed one? This may just have been the cutest thing she has seen in a long time. Erm.. or it was. Until the alpaca seemed to be annoyed with something and then.. it was eating grass. Well.. okay then? Kanga didn't seem bothered either way and laid right there in the grass. Keigh on the other hand slowly made her way closer, eyes on the alpaca the entire time. "Ummm, hi there?" |
Quote:
…here goes nothing. He picked up the bucket once more, expecting a repeat of the previous two times with it filling up with water without him even trying. However, as Raj watched it remained mostly empty. Literally nothing went causing him to frown in confusion. He did his best to relax and not force it with his concentration on it happening, but it remained the same. “Now its even odder, “ he mused, turning to his aunt. |
