Accidental Breakroom

Located here is the breakroom for all employees within the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes (Department of MAC). Come in and relax your mind or take a break and eat a Chocolate Frog or two. Remember to clean up after yourselves when you're finished.

Mindy stepped into the Breakroom and set her pink briefcase on the floor. By the large amount of people in the Conference Room, she assumed there was going to be a meeting. This meant coffee, lots and lots of coffee.

The Breakroom had a muggle coffee pot in it, though it was run by magic, not electricity. After making a large pot, Mindy poured over half of it into her styrofoam cup that had been hit with an Internal Enlargement Charm. It didn't appear to be bigger than any of the other cups, but in reality, it held much more coffee than it normally would.

Mindy took a small drink, swallowed, and smacked her lips. Living with women all her life had given her the skills to be an excellent coffee maker.
Heading towards the exit, Mindy picked up her briefcase again and walked out the door. Lavender robes billowing behind her, she made her way back to the Conference Room.

Trism made an unusual exodus from the lower levels of the ministry to come up and find his newly acquainted acquaintance. Namely, Ivan Callistus. He pushed open the doors. "Ivan? Ohhhhhh Ivan?!" He stood near the doors humming a bit to himself. How odd...He didn't meet me for lunch, down by us, and he's not here. Where could he be?

He scratched his chin, noting some stubble. Must shave a better tomorrow. But today, I'm going for the scruffy look. He didn't even know where to begin looking for him. Wait, no, Ivan was an obliviator. Perhaps he should go look for him at his desk.

Yes, if Ivan wouldn't come to the tuna, then the tuna would go to Ivan. He turned around and disappeared from the break room.

Ivan and Trism entered the Obliviator breakroom. Setting his tunafish sandwich - courtesy of Trism - on the table, Ivan turned to the coffee pot. He picked it up. Sniffed. "Stale." Ivan looked around. He had no idea where the coffee things were. Oh well. Pulling two mugs out of the cabinet, Ivan poured out the remains of the old coffee and reheated it with his wand. Without thinking, Ivan set the empty pot back on its burner.

Ivan turned around and found that Trism had selected a table and appeared to be sitting with barely-concealed energy. Ivan sat down next to him and slid his mug over. It then occurred to Ivan that Trism might not take his coffee black. "Want anything for that?" He pointed.

"Nope - this is fine. Had to much sugar with breakfast anyways." He took a drink made a face and then took another one. "Mmmm. So Ivan, how's work going today?" He pulled his own tuna sandwich out of his lunch bag and started unwrapping it. "Oh, I brought potato chips too." He produced a pink covered Tupperware bowl and peeled the cover off and set it out for them to share.

Ivan bit into his sandwich, noting the potato crisps and catching a glimpse of further goodies in Trism's mysterious lunch bag. Everything about Trism seemed a touch mysterious - or it might just have been Ivan's imagination. And he was generosity itself and amusing, to boot.

Truth be told, it'd been a little lonely since Ivan's brother had left on a secret mission - he and Gunther had been rooming together. This was the first time in his life that Ivan had ever lived alone. To make matteres worse, he'd been too busy in the early months of training to make any new friends in the city. So a new friend was both a novelty and a blessing.

In the spirit of friendship Ivan offered the only thing he could - a piece of gum he'd palmed from the desk of a co-worker (one who constantly annoyed him with her bubblegum popping). "Work's good. Lots of memories to alter. Some pixies went rogue in south London this morning," Ivan said as he hand over the gum. A thought occurred to Ivan. "So what do you talk about since you can't talk about your work?"

Yusuke walked into the breakroom of the Accidents Department. The one on his own level was pretty dead, and quite frankly he wanted to try and find Ivan so he could learn about dragons. He didn't get to learn much yesterday, and was still intrigued.

He knew Ivan worked for this department, so he looked around. He may not have seemed like he was paying attention yesteday, but he was.

"Well, I talk about books and cooking and parties and movies and parrots and teas. I love teas, drinking teas, making teas, reading teas." He chomped into his sandwich. "I cook a lot. Or try to. Most of the time it doesn't turn out very good. I'm good at making sandwiches and tea. You should come over sometime and try some." He heard the door open and turned around to see his fellow department mate join them. "Hey Yusuke!" He waved and motioned him over.

Yusuke smiled as he noticed Trism. He happily strolled over to the table he was at and smiled warmly.

"Heylo there! Oh wow. The food you guys have here looks amazing! Far better than yesterday's little treats," he chuckled. "I kid, I kid. Though it does look great."

Ivan looked up. It was another Unspeakable come to the visit! Ivan smiled and waved to a chair with his sandwich. "Sit down, sit down." Something with a "Y" or was it an "I"? I should start writing names down. Oh well. Someone will say it eventually.

Ivan glanced over at the coffeemaker. The glass bottom of the empty pot glowed red and was starting to smoke ominously. "Sorry, we're all out of coffee. But there might be some pop in that icebox." Ivan pointed it out.

Yusuke sat down at Ivan's permission.

"Why thank you, Ivan my good man." He said smiling.

His long coat hung almost to the floor as he looked around the room. It was for the most part like the break room for his department, but it sure had its own charm.

"Glad you think they're good looking because," He stuck his tongue out a bit as he stuck his hand back into his lunch box. He pulled out another sandwich. "Made 3 of them today." He passed one over. "Enjoy." He picked up his stale cup of coffee and took another drink. "Bleck." It was almost the equivalent of his gross cookies from yesterday. However, he followed the first drink with a second drink. "So, Yusuke, what brought you out of the cave of wonders?"

Yusuke took the sandwich and smiled. Tuna, one of his favorites. His nephew cooked a lot, so he'd been exposed to several delicious flavors.

"Mmm... this looks great," he said taking a bite.

"Oh me? I just came looking to find out more about dragons from Ivan. Though I guess I can get to know the both of you a bit more now."

Yusuke! Okay. remember that - Yusuke, Yusuke, Yusuke. "Dragons? Oh. sure." He swallowed. Behind him, the coffeepot rattled on the burner, smoke starting to flow thicker. Ivan sipped some rancid stale coffee, made a face and said, "What did you want to know...(Yuke? Yules? Yudy?)....uh?"

"Well, anything really. Like... what's the best kind you've ever worked with?" Yusuke smiled wide, eating his sandwich.

Ivan seemed to be off in his mind pondering something. Yusuke decided it was best not to ask as Ivan was a curious fellow. But he felt that the more curious- the better. Things were more adventuresome that way.

Trism grabbed some crisps and then popped them into his mouth. He chewed quietly eager to hear more about dragons himself. But something distracted him. He sniffed the air. "Someone cooking something? I smell smoke..."

"Come to think of it... I smell it too."

Yusuke looked behind Ivan and noticed the coffee pot going for broke on the burner and jumped up from his chair.

"Coffee at twelve o'clock!!"

He pointed at the rattling, smoking pot. It was yet another exciting day in the Ministry.

Ivan turned. The coffeepot was on fire! He jumped up, wand extended and cast a freezing charm. A huge blast of icy wind emitted from the tip of Ivan's wand and flash-froze not only the pot, but also the coffee-maker, counter and surrounding cabinets. Apparently Ivan, in his enthusiasm had used a tad more force in his spell than was really necessary.

The sudden change from fire to ice was too much for the pot's glass. Without warning there was a loud crack and then pieces of ice-encrusted glass flew everywhere.

"Get! Down!" Trism grabbed the back of Ivan's cloak and pulled him down to the ground. He gave Yusuke a shove as he yanekd on Ivan. Trism's chair went sprawling as he landed atop of Ivan. His own cloak covered his head a bit.

"Gah!!" Yusuke shouted as he was shoved down.

"Leave it to me!!," he said jumping up. He whipped his wand out from somewhere in his coat and tried to shoot the shards off course.

"Everyone duck, just in case!!" he said with a smirk, blasting the pieces away with a somewhat charged Flipendo. A simple spell, yet effective at knocking the shards away.

Ivan heard the tinkle and crack of glass hitting walls and floor and chairs. Then quiet. He peek out from under Trism's cloak. Nothing was moving and the only sounds were of the three of them breathing. Ivan stood up and looked around. I suppose they'll withdraw the cost of all this against my paycheck. Which, by Ivan's estimations probably meant he owed them.

Yusuke's face bore triumphant expression, clearly proud of having saved them all from a thousand unpleasant embedded glass shards. Ivan couldn't help but smile. "Thanks, mate. That was quick thinking. We could use a man like you in the Obliviators."

Ivan extended a hand to Trism, pulling him off the floor. "Sorry about that. Thanks for the cover. You're quick on your feet, too. I'd always heard you Unspeakable types were more...um...slow." That was the charitable way of putting it. Another false assumption bit the dust.

“Slow? HA! We’re the brightest of the bunch!” Proof positive that Ivan was right, well at least in one respect. He looked around the room. “Bloody good shot mate!” He exclaimed to Yusuke. “Where’d you learn a spell like that anyways?”

He scratched his nose and then started moving around the room looking over the bits and piece of glass scattered around the perimeter. “You know,” he turned on a heel to look back at the two men checking their sandwiches for broken glass. “I think we can put it back together again.”

Yusuke, panting a bit, smiled and put his wand back into his cloak. He turned to his friends and rubbed his hands together.

"Unfortunately, I've already been placed my friend," he laughed, commenting to Ivan.

He smiled to Trism and flipped his hair a bit. It had fallen into his eyes while thwarting glass.

"Just a little bit of dueling experience at Hogwarts is all. Nothing big."

Ivan sighed at his sandwich. So close...yet so riddled with undigestable dangerous materials. He chucked it in the rubbish bin. "Put it back together?" Ivan raised an eyebrow. "Its in a million pieces, mate. No even Merlin would attempt it." But then, Ivan didn't know Trism very well. Perhaps Trism would go where Merlin feared to tread?

"Went to Hogwarts?" A sudden jump in topic, Ivan blinked. "When did you graduate?" It would be quite embarrassing to find they'd graduated same year and Ivan hadn't remembered him. He sincerely hoped Yasuke's exodus from Hogwarts was recent. Ivan's own had been seven years previous.

Yusuke also looked at Trism, puzzled. He was curious as to how a million tiny fragments could return to being a coffee pot, even with magic. Though he knew not to doubt Trism.

He then turned to Ivan and flushed. He rubbed his head and though," Uhh... Well let's see... I'm 30 now... So about 13 years ago now that I think about it. Jeez, that makes me feel old," he said chuckling.
