Drabbles found here will be either written by the lovely Chelliephone or by myself - FearlessLeader19 - and will follow the lives of our respective RPG characters Evan Nam and Ryder Jude Anders, who happen to be best friends! Any other character mentioned, will be listed under the spoiler tag below along with their corresponding RPer. On behalf of Chells, I hope you enjoy these drabbles! Sorting Hat {Group 18, Prompt 01} He was finally here. Hogwarts. Tiny, nervous and eleven years old, Jude wanted nothing more than to go back home to Addison, Connor and Keighley. Eyes that could barely meet anyone else scanned the sea of students already seated. He sought Reagan and found her. When she beamed at him, his confidence rose once more. Jude smiled back just as his name was called to be Sorted. Before the Sorting Hat dropped over his eyes, he caught sight of a particular Ravenclaw. Though Jude didn’t know it at the time, he’d just had the first glimpse of his best friend. |
2. Judgement {Group 4, Prompt 1} At primary school, Evan often felt like he didn't fit in. And clearly, his peers thought similarly of him. At 11 and younger he'd been able to show more excitement, but his expressions were still often rather... lacking. Gaining him the nickname "Robot", which always bothered him. Things at Hogwarts were better, but the commentary was still similar. He was perpetually upset. Or... he should try smiling more. And while he knew comments were well intended, it was still withering to hear them. But one person never judged him on his lack of enthusiasm. And it quickly had made Jude his favorite person. |
3. Air {Group 09, Prompt 04} He always carried that hope that Evan would come around, would return the romantic affection. Jude found out this sadly wasn’t the case when he confessed to falling in love with his best friend during the summer of 2107. His heart shattered and it felt as though all the air had been deprived from him. Looking back at that situation a year later still hurt but at least his friendship had survived. THEIR friendship had survived. Jude’s breath still caught whenever he looked at Evan. That’s how he knew that he would always have that special affection for the bestie. |
4. Buddy System {Group 5, Prompt 8} Any event that included all of his extended family was something in which going in pairs, was absolutely necessary. His cousins were very… high energy, the eldest by far the most. Evan was expecting this wedding to be… a lot. Even if the bride seemed calm enough. So when Jude agreed to be his buddy for the event, the Ravenclaw was incredibly grateful. He was never good at expressing himself, but as watching his cousins and their friends singing their hearts out to karaoke in the most flamboyant of ways, he turned to his friend. “Thank you for coming with me.” |
5. Dedicated {Group 05, Prompt 09} Jude was having a nice time. The culture, the scenery, the people, and yes - the chaos, every bit of it at this wedding. He even took part in the karaoke! There had been so much dancing on his part, it had been impossible to keep track of the amount. This was the most fun he had had in a very long time . But moments away from everyone with the best friend were always going to be the greatest. “Thank YOU for inviting me! I wouldn’t have missed this for anything.” The dedication in his heart for Evan would never waver. |
6. Fire {Group 9, Prompt 1} A lot of the sensible part of Evan was telling him that going with Jude to the elemental dance was a mistake. Jude had been transparent on what his feelings were, and he was trying to be considerate of those without making anything harder for his friend. But at the end of the day, it was a hard line to draw. Jude was his best friend and liked to spend time with him. So when asked, he didn't say not but said yes and met him there dressed like fire. And the evening turned into one of his favorite Hogwarts memories. |
7. Overthinking {Group 06, Prompt 03} His thoughts could be brutal. Jude tried not to listen to them when they whispered words of deep hurt. “Evan’s had two best friends before. Who’s to say he wouldn’t replace you in a heartbeat?’’ Staring up dully at the canopy of his four-poster bed in the dorm, he did nothing to quell the thoughts. This entire ordeal was exhausting to him; there was no energy for him to fight back. Not even when he closed his eyes and finally drifted off into welcomed sleep was he left alone. In his dreams, he watched Evan not care for him anymore. |
8. Roll Call {Group 4, Prompt 2} Despite the current oddities, Evan was still making an effort to be to class every day. Which meant now getting there early, while human, so that he'd be in the right place if case his.. ailment occurred. Seated at a desk, early once again for his lessons, Evan greeted his best friend when he made it in. Before he could say anything else, he started feeling weird and where he had been… there was now an alpaca. At least he could count on Jude to answer for both of them during roll call. If only his homework could be so lucky. |
9. All Night Study Session {Group 06, Prompt 01} Jude was a zombie as he and Evan made their way from the library. He yawned loudly, barely keeping his eyes open due to their all night study session at the library. “S-sorry,’’ he mumbled, suppressing another yawn. “So tired. Can’t wait to fall into bed -” He halted abruptly. There was a clanging not too far from them. Evan, Jude saw, was wide awake and wore a terrified look. Another clang and he thought he saw Evan jump. He squinted towards the sound. Then… “It’s just Pads and Ned!’’ Relief washed over Jude. “Scaredy cat.” He stuck his tongue out. |
10. Silk Sheets {Group 4, Prompt 7} His ability to be easily spooked had been unearthed, so now Ev wanted to see if Jude was as well. Which was the only explanation he could give for his current appearance treading to the kitchen, silk sheets draped over him with two eyes cut for holes. Climbing through the portrait, he began to make noises - intent on pranking the Hufflepuff. But when he was in the room, he found the kitchen still empty. With a soft sigh, Evan straightened and went to pull of the sheet, before jumping at an amused voice behind him. "What're you doing?" Backfired. |
11. Midnight Feast {Group 05, Prompt 05} Playing board and card games on a warm summer night certainly worked up the boys’ appetite. “Apples… all the fixings for sandwiches… and! Saving the best for last!” Jude slid the pan of leftover Shepherd’s Pie onto the Anders’ kitchen table. “Tadaa!” Without asking what Evan wanted first, a healthy slice of the Pie was plated for each of them. But something was missing. Oh! That’s right! “Care to warm this up?” Evan was of age now. This meant using magic out of School was allowed for him. Jude fully intended on capitalising on the fact during this midnight feast. |
12. Omnioculars {Group 21, Prompt 8} Just another average day for the two best friends, holed up in the library - studying. Evan as a sixth year was not working as diligently as his Hufflepuff counterpart, but still keeping himself busy while eyeing which subject his friend was working on. If he had a question or wanted to discuss - the Ravenclaw would be ready. So when he noticed a furrowed brow during Transfiguration review, a study guide for that subject was handed over. Jude took it and raised an eyebrow, amusement in his face. "When did you get omnioculars installed in your head?" Evan just smiled. |
13. Tickle the Pear {Group 05, Prompt 02} “Let me guess. You’re going to ask the elves for cookies, cake, ice cream and anything else sweet they can get their hands on,” third year Jude teased. “Better careful, otherwise you’ll end up with a few rotted teeth.” “I’ll be sure to enroll in the best dental programme,” Evan replied, serious as ever. Jude laughed and punched Evan in the arm. “Hey, I’m kidding! There are spells and potions to take care of your teeth. Free of cost too if you cast the spells or brew the potion yourself!” Evan shook his head in amusement. “Just tickle the pear.” |
14. Quidditch {Group 14, Prompt 8} As someone who had now attended multiple events, this impromptu magical tutoring session was probably a bit of an embarrassment. But if there was anyone who would not judge him for asking simple questions, it was Jude. Which was why now sat in the kitchen with pie in the oven and a notebook opened. After asking the same questions a million times, he was still puzzled. "So you get a quaffle through a hoop, it's 10 points. But if a seeker grabs the Snitch... it's 150?" What a massive difference. "What's the point of the other players?" Jude just chuckled. |
15. Water {Group 09, Prompt 02} Still chuckling, Jude set a glass of water down before his fretting friend. Water always seemed to be best for Evan, at least in a lot of situations. “For entertainment, of course! Where’s the fun without the Beaters sending Bludgers at everyone? Or…” Jude peered at Evan’s notebook. What had been written? “...or the dramatic occurrence of one team’s Seeker securing the Snitch but the other team still wins the match? Just look up the World Cup of 1994!” Jude tilted his head shrewdly. “When we’re done here, we’re heading to the Pitch. We’re going to have some Quidditch fun!” |
16. Licorice Wand {Group 15, Prompt 1} Another day, another DADA lesson. Today it seemed they were going to be practicing dueling against each other, just for some additional spell work. As per their usual, Evan and Jude once more paired together and moved to an area in order to start the activity. The Ravenclaw had reached into his bag, pulling out his wand and getting into position before looking across at his opponent and seeing the Hufflepuff... chuckling? "You sure you're all set, Ev?" He looked down in his hand and snorted at the licorice wand. Who knew his sweet stash could be so embarrassing. "Oops." |
17. Butterbeer {Group 15, Prompt 06} January 2113 came around like an arctic tundra in Jude’s opinion. A bottle of butterbeer from the cart was handed to Evan somewhat nervously. Clutching his own butterbeer, Jude fidgeted with the rainbow pompom on his beanie. “Spill it, Jude.” Leave it to Evan to know that something was off. “Er…” This was a delicate topic given the fact that Jude still had feelings for Evan, and he was sure Evan knew it. Would talking about this make things awkward? “I was thinking… of asking Davet to marry me.” A peek told him that Evan was smiling at the words. |
18. Overstuffed Armchair {Group 5, Prompt 3} A true sign of a best friend was someone willing to assist with studying, when they did not yet need to. Sitting the library, Jude had offered to quiz Evan using his flashcards. The Ravenclaw was writing out a definition after incorrectly answering a question, before he called out. "Alright, I'm done. What's next?" Glancing up, he noticed Jude fast asleep in the large overstuffed chair. A mistake to make things so comfortable in the library. With a soft chuckle, Evan got to work on transfiguration. Making parchment into a blank and covering his friend, before resuming with his book. |
19. Exploding Snap {Group 20, Prompt 10} “We’re supposed to be playing Exploding Snap,’’ Evan reminded patiently. “Not building…” “A house!’’ second year Jude replied with more enthusiasm than usual. “We’ll play in a few. Promise.” He gave Evan what he hoped to be a winning smile and cute puppy eyes. Jude continued to carefully stack the cards, knowing the risk each move carried. His tongue was stuck between his teeth in concentration. Then… POOOOOF!!! The entire deck blew right up in his face. Jude blinked, the sound of Evan’s laughter in his ears. “What?” he questioned. “Sporting half of an eyebrow is quite the fashion statement.” |
20. Hogsmeade {Group 14, Prompt 9} Going back to Hogsmeade village for the first time as a graduate was... a strange experience. There were faces he was passing in the street that he didn't recognize, new students, and some he knew but hadn't spoken with. Then there was the people he knew but in name only, who all stopped and greeted him. He thought he saw his sister, but knew he'd be late if he confirmed. So off to the Three Broomsticks he rushed, and smiled as when he opened the door he noticed a familiar face. The former Ravenclaw slid into the booth. "Hey, Jude." |
21. Quill {Group 18, Prompt 03} It was all so mysterious, this new job of his best friend. But! Jude understood: his own parents were employed at the Department of Mysteries and he was used to everything related to it being hush-hush. “Brought you a congratulatory present, Ev!’’ Jude singsang. Because there was no greater joy than seeing one’s closest friend being successful in life. The present was sitting in a box of deep blue and once the lid was removed, Evan would find a luxury eagle quill sitting within. “I figure you could either use it at the Ministry or at Uni, whichever you like!’’ |
22. Headmaster {Group 18, Prompt 8} While his response was rational given his trauma, Evan still felt guilt with how much he tensed whenever the current Headmaster came near. In particular, the one that the head of Neo-Alliance had worn the face for as students were tormented - particularly those like him. Any time there was a speech, an activity or special event... he'd flinch, just the slightest bit. But it never seemed to fail that in those moments, Jude found his way to his side and pressed his arm against his. Just letting him know he was there. And then it got the slightest bit better. |
23. Snowball {Group 08, Prompt 06} Snow days meant snowball fights! Except Evan didn’t know that his and Jude’s outing on the Hogwarts grounds would entail one of those. Jude had snuck out earlier and with the help of magic, had created a huge pile of snowballs. They were now sitting patiently beside him as he hunkered down on a platform in The Climbing Tree. “He should be here any second… any second now…” Jude muttered, peering over the platform. Sure enough, Evan came into view. Shaking from silent laughter already, the first snowball was flung manually. Evan would not know what - or who - hit him. |
24. Wood {Group 9, Prompt 5} He wasn't sure how he convinced himself to be talked into these things. But here he was, at Jude's workplace with the former Hufflepuff and Jude's boyfriend, while the former taught the others to dance. Davet and Jude partnered, while Evan used a mannequin. "Alright, step back with your left and then -" Jude was explaining, but Evan didn't hear the rest, as his shoe slipped on the wooden floor and both he and mannequin went toppling. Once Evan was uncovered from the mannequin (thanks Davet), he glanced at both of the others with a teasing smile. "Did I do it right?" |
25. Jelly Legs {Group 15, Prompt 04} “Locomotor Wibbly,” Evan practised confidently. Unlike before, he was successful this time around. Jude, who had been convinced his best friend would never master the spell after all this time, was utterly unprepared to defend himself despite the wand in his hand. The third year suddenly felt his legs go wonky as they collapsed beneath him. He crumpled to the floor before his brain registered anything else. Luckily, he broke his fall with his hands before his face hit the floor. Literally. “I’m fine,’’ he told a fussing Evan between laughs. “Just fix me while I lay here wasting away.” |
