"Hi, Professor,'' Claudine greeted. Even though her attention was not yet on the man, she figured that she'd greet him. Exactly what was her attention on? Those pesky vines, of course. And to think that she once admired those flowers which accompanied the greenery, flowers which she had regularly picked and compressed between thick text books. Those compressed flowers eventually made it to her sketchpad where they were stuck using the Permanent Sticking Charm.

Anyway.

"Hope you're well.'' Having reached closer to Robinson, Claudine gave him a small smile before picking her way towards the back of the room. The last thing she needed was to fall flat on her face.

Armed and ready, read: fed and watered, for today's Arithmancy class (hopefully without any more distractions), Noah took a leisurely pace towards his next class, eyeing the mysterious (and now slightly creepy) vines that made its way inside the castle. For sure, students and professors have been informed about this overgrowth, correct? Again, he was no longer taking Herbology for NEWT levels, so this was a bit alarming for the Gryffindor. He didn't know what was going on anymore. Perhaps he should pay Professor Flamsteed a visit one of these days. Was anyone else on board with this? Has anyone paid her a visit yet?

Literally skipping a vine, Noah entered the classroom and gave Robinson a curt nod and a greeting, "Good morning, professor." And...why were they asked not to get too comfortable? Was there going to be a pop quiz? Because he's ready for that, too. "Hey, Claudine." Noah took his usual seat at the back, and waited for the rest to arrive.

Trying to figure out the vines or ways to get rid of vines was proving useless, so Evan's new tactic was to just straight ignore their existence. It wasn't helping much either, so he'd probably have to go back to proactive sooner rather than later.

But for now, he merely stepped over them and gave a nod towards Professor Robinson. "Hello, sir. Are you well?" He moved on to find himself a spot to sit, sliding into a desk seat and pulling out a notebook and pen in order to write down some notes.

He casually noted the page with his birthday too, just on case there was another question on it and he tried to cite his sister's again. Embarrassing.

Ash was... stuck. She had a problem. She had to pick between sitting next to Claudine, Noah, or Evan. On the one hand, it didn’t matter. On the other hand, Claudine was her first big sister. On the other hand, Noah was her big brother and she didn’t see him as often. On the other hand, Evan was her best friend and she didn’t wanna let him down! She needed more hands for this.

She just sort of stood there and looked... freaked out and completely distracted for a good minute before sitting beside Noah and hoping she didn’t offend anyone.

”Hi Noah! Hello, Professor.” Should she have included Professor Robinson when she was deciding where to sit? Maybe he needed friends too!

Well, it was a bit late for that...

Violet entered the classroom in time to hear Professor Robinson's comment. It was unlikely she would get too comfortable, not with all the strange vegetation appearing around school all year. In fact, she couldn't remember the last time she'd felt really comfortable and safe. "Good morning, Professor," she said as she entered and sat gingerly on the edge of a seat, keeping a suspicious eye on the vines out of the corners of her eyes. She was hoping to get a really challenging project to work on, to take her mind off all the creeping (and creepy) plants.

Jordyn had given up trying to avoid the vines that seemed to be everywhere. At this point, she figured they just had to coexist. For now, her mind needed to be on Arithmancy and she tried hard to focus on that.

“Hello Professor”, she said, as she entered the classroom. Then Jordyn made her way to an empty seat and plopped down into it. She sat back, crossed her legs and waited to hear what plan for the day would be.

Ugh, vines. Why wasn’t the groundskeeper attacking these things and getting rid of them? That was their job, wasn’t it, to keep the grounds?

Stepping over a particularly large vine, Dia found herself a seat with a ”Hello, Professor. Viney day, isn’t it?” Her way of trying to make light of the situation, since it seemed the groundskeeper had quit his job or something.

Valentina entered the classroom, immediately noticing the vines. UGH. They were so annoying!! Were they going to go away soon or?? Because it seemed like they were just taking over the castle.

"Hello, professor!" She headed slowly towards a seat somewhere near the middle - making sure not to trip and fall.

The vines in the castle had been a cool feature at first. It made the castle look abandoned and the Hufflepuff liked that look. But even he got annoyed as they kept growing and he had to step over them now and try not to trip.

With his school bag hoisted over his left shoulder and a notebook clutched in his arms against his chest, Daniel entered the classroom. He gave the professor a quick nod of his head combined with a polite "Good day professor" before stepping over a few vines to sit at a desk with no one beside him.

Winston glanced over at the door and waited a few more minutes, but didn't close it. "Okay, I guess we'll go ahead and get started. So last time we talked about our life path numbers and their influence with the arrows of pythagoras. Today's lesson will be more of a research assignment that will take place over the next month. But before I can give you the assignment, there's one more number that we need to know besides our life path numbers. Which if you recall, the life path numbers are the summation of the digits in your date of birth. The other number that we need to keep in mind for this assignment is your soul urge number."

"Using your full name on your birthday certificate, assign the appropriate number to only the vowels in your name. And reduce the number to a single digit. Go ahead and calculate your soul urge number now. I'll place mine on the board for an example."

ooc: sorry for the delay :3 anyway, go ahead and calculate your character's soul urge number , making sure to reduce the numeric value of each name down a single digit before combining them. Oh look, little sister was here. "Hey Ash," he replied with a tight-lipped smile, and gave her a gentle fist-bump. It was quite odd to see Ash sat with the bigger kids at the back, but it was cool nonetheless. Change of scenery could be helpful.

As the class started, Noah pulled out his textbook and Arithmancy notebook, opening it to the last page ready to crunch some numbers. Soul Urge Number, huh? Like, what could be his deepest desire, was it? In the past lesson, he did have reservations with his result, though his Arrows lent some truth, so maybe his soul's urge would shed some light on the things and thoughts that were not clear to him. And so without further ado, Noah got to work.

"I'm doing fine, sir, thank you." He had managed to respond, before getting more comfortable into his seat and turned his pen around his fingers. Sometimes, he preferred to use the no-maj writing instruments. He watched the other students entering, offering Ash a small smile and a nod as she went and sat next to Noah. He had no way of knowing her internal dilemma, but had he he would have assured her not sitting next to him in a class was never something he would be offended by. He liked the company of his friends yes, but class was such a poor time for socializing anyways.

Moving on, there was more calculations this time around.

A soul urge number was it? Based on using the vowels in one's full birth given name? Considering he did not have a middle name, this should be rather simple for him. He uncapped his pen, opening his notebook to a clean page and writing it all out.

His parents had been kind and gave him a name that was very easy to calculate. And the soul urge, though he really didn't know what that meant, was the number he'd been more hoping for with his life path.

...Was that the point?

Not... opaque? Ash looked down at herself to confirm that she was not, in fact, see through. Had she ever been see through?

OH. She grinned. "I suppose you're right." Ashley the malevolent ghost wasn't here today. There was just Ash, the insecure teenager. Which was... better, probably.

She gave Noah a fist bump and a big smile and turned to her math number work. While Arithmancy was not her easiest class, because it didn't work in the same way as muggle math, having a good memory was definitely to her advantage and she got good grades without struggling too hard.

Um. Was she doing this right?

"Professor? I think I got a nine. Does that mean, like... caring about the people on a global level??? And like, selflessness??? I think I read that in a book somewhere, but I'm not sure if I just made that up." That would make sense... like artists and activists and stuff, right? Ash wanted to make the world a better place... except for when she wanted to burn it to the ground and cry. So this number was either very fitting or maybe very incorrect. She decided to go with 'very fitting'. Since she was trying to believe in herself and all.

Believe in her soul urge, if they were even real, and also believe in her ability to do arithmancy, if it meant anything, and also believe in her ability to remember stuff she'd read about arithmancy, even though it could be entirely wrong and she was making a fool of herself.

Self-confidence. She was attempting it.

Violet worked grimly, trying very hard to overcome both the vines in the room and her lack of focus, which was becoming annoyingly familiar this year.

‘Hi’ was actually the chosen form of usual greeting. She would have listened to Robinson had he corrected her but would have gone on using ‘hi’... well, until she died. “Unfortunately. Luckily we have Heating Charms. They work wonders.”

Ah, yes. Life Path Numbers and those Arrows. That hadn’t been the best of lessons for Claudine since she had made some big time errors. Anyway. A month’s long assignment? She wasn’t really looking forward to it considering how bad she was at Arithmancy.

The Soul Urge Number seemed easy enough. Claudine got started without any hesitation.

Valentina wasn't very good with numbers but she was determined to do better in arithmancy this term. It just wasn't a very fun subject, she thought. Not as fun as flying or charms, at least. She picked up her quill and got to work quickly, hoping she didn't make any mistakes in the very first assignment itself.

Daniel had been working on placing his writing material neatly on the desk in front of him while the professor started the lesson. He flipped the pages of his notebook to check what his life path number had been again and read that they were 22/4. The most powerful number of all. Something, when he had read this, had made the Hufflepuff feel relevant. He hoped to find another great number for his soul urge number as well. He picked up a muggle pen, flipped the notebook to a new page and scratched the ink on the bottom of the page to check if the pen was still working and went to work.

A number 9? He picked up his textbook again, not truly caring if he was allowed to look up its meaning already or not. He was curious and wanted to know right away. He leaned back in his seat as he began to read what it meant.

Lisa was working on her assignment diligently. Soul numbers were based off the value of the vowels in her name. That seemed relatively straight forward enough. She tried her best to focus on the assignment than her entrance.

She had entered the room normally until she spotted Daniel. Then everything about Valentine’s Day flashed back to her… The feast.. Daniel giving her more juice to drink.. Her tummy feeling strange. Flip flops… She…. paused in her tracks. She debated what to do before deciding in normal Lisa Nam fashion to “keep calm and carry on”. She walked straight over to where he was sitting, took a seat, smiled at him, and then began her work.

And now she was writing her name. See? Everything was fine. Clearly she was overthinking it. She paused her quill after the first A in her name. Oh dear Merlin… she was turning into Evan. Awkward…

She liked the number 11 a lot… but what did it mean?

Her eyebrows raised when she read the first sentence. Merlin. It had got her spot on.

You are extremely sensitive, with more emotional ups and downs than other numbers..

No need to call her out about this year.

“Psst! Daniel, what did you get?” she whispered. Not that it was a competition… she was curious.

Making his way back to the front of the classroom and being extra careful to not trip over any vines or backpacks, Winston faced the class to address them all. "So just a couple notes, to make sure you're using the pythagorean number system to get your letter values. The soul urge number, similar to your life path numbers, is one of the elements of the core. This particular aspect is about your heart's desire and what motivates you. What you value the most."

"So as I mentioned before, we'll be embarking on a month-long assignment, but before we do so and I dismiss you, there's two more numbers that are needed. The Personal Year and the Personal month numbers." He flicked his wand to show the two calculation formulas on the board. And below used his own numbers for demonstration.

But go ahead and calculate your personal year and month numbers, because it'll make it easier you should have analyses for a minimum of THREE days for full credit. The more detailed the better. Violet sighed, blushing a little at the professor's correction. She'd done it all wrong and now would have to start over again. And Arithmancy had once been one of her best subjects! She felt renewed anger at Poppy (she refused to think of her as 'Healer') and her stupid candles and made a vow to punch the woman in the nose if she ever saw her again.

So, over and over again, always beginning again...
Violet really hoped it was right this time. An eight--hadn't she gotten that number in an assignment before? She seemed to feel she hadn't thought it fit her, but she could really remember--she'd have to check her notebooks when she got out of class.

She decided she'd better do the rest of the assignment while she was thinking of it (and in case she got something else wrong!)...

There. Violet really hoped that was right. She wasn't used to making so many mistakes.

The seventh year beamed. It was rare that she felt confident in Arithmancy lessons but Robinson’s word left her feeling exactly so. Still, like she was for Divination, Claudine was skeptical about all of these numbers and their meanings. But she went along with all of it because the topics were sort of fascinating. Before the girl knew it, she was working on more calculations:

The Gryffindor choked on his own spit as he read his textbook, making his cheeks blush a tad. Ahem. Picking up his pen, he went ahead to underline the offending text with a hint of a smirk. Somehow...somehow, the result actually agreed with what's going on in his life. He'd been in a cleansing mode lately, actually trying his best to clean up his act as a rogue, restless child that he once was. He did feel that he was turning into someone better, coincidentally, when he turned 17 one day before 2106 came around. Was it really time to say goodbye to his childhood? Maybe. But he was sure to keep his kid-at-heart attitude, even if he turned 99 in the future.

Okay. What? Noah slowly put his textbook back on his table and pondered on what he just read. To be honest, the book couldn't be any more accurate. He'd been on a proper date recently, and one that he didn't expect to happen. He'd been attentive, running here and there to make sure that his date with Florrie would be a happy and smooth one. Funny how he was a 'one' just a few months ago, not caring about anybody except himself, but now, he'd actually made room for someone. Someone who became a friend, and someone he now cared about. Funny, these numbers. Accurate, and equally scary.

Noah let out a sigh of disbelief when it dawned on him what his Soul Urge number meant, and how that, too, fell into place alongside his other personal numbers. For someone who does not make a big deal out of relationships, or even actively looking for one, this was news.

Valentina stared at the formulas on the board, trying to make sense of it all. She noted them down as she listened to what the professor said. Personal month and personal year numbers... huh. She started to work on them, running her other hand through her hair somewhat nervously.

Had Daniel known about the inner turmoil going on with Lisa right now related to Valentine's Day, he would have teased her about it a little bit. Luckily for slightly older Ravenclaw, he had no idea. Because to him, it had been a normal kind of day. Nothing special.

A small complacent smile appeared on the Hufflepuff's face as the Professor complimented his work and while he was reading about his soul urge number he heard Lisa whisper to him. He placed a finger on the sentence in his book before looking at her "I got a 9" he whispered back before he continued to read what his soul number meant.

Soul of compassion? love for others seems boundless? Strive for universal love??

"This is almost insulting..." he said to himself and he felt even MORE displeased when the professor explained that the heart's desire was what you valued the most.

So he valued love.

With an exasperated sigh, Daniel placed his textbook back down on the table before continuing the next set of calculations.
