An old moving tapestry depicts Barnabas attempting to train trolls for the ballet. Don't laugh too hard, now; the tapestries' occupants are easily offended.

Angel had decided to go and relax for a bit without her sister AJ around, she really needed to try and get her head around things. Did Ben like her, like her or had he kissed her as a brother would kiss her. This was getting very complicated and well Angel was totally at a lost as to what Ben meant with that kiss in Diagon Alley and now he had got her a plant.

Angel looked around and giggled as she realised she had walked somewhere but where that was the question when she had left the Gryffindor Common Room she had been heading for the Great Hall but at the minute she was somewhere else.

O_____________o

She looked up and giggled, she knew this place but how was she still only on the seventh floor. It felt like she had been walking for ages but anyway she would get where she wanted eventually.

Cartography, was a very Ravenclaw activity to participate in... for fun. The way he saw it though, was that he wasn't simply MAPPING, he was EXPLORING, which was a very Gryffindor thing to do, or so he'd been told. And so here he was, quill in hand, ink bottle in pocket, and a parchment in his hand, meandering along the seventh floor corridor. It was as good a place as any to start, seeing as it was essentially outside his front-door step. Mmhhhmmm.

Brows furrowed and tongue sticking out the side of his mouth, Zeke scrawled -- as neatly as he could, a series of lines to represent the space he was in, making annotations in the margins of the 'walls' as to what occupied that space. He was awful at this, the whole writing/drawing and walking thing, but there was little that could keep him still.

Up a short way, he realised he wasn't alone.

"Hi Angel," he beamed at his housemate, and that's when he saw it. The tapestry. BAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH.... a troll in a tutu!!!
"OHMYGOD THAT'S HILARIOUS!" he stated through his LOUD laughter.

Angel looked up as someone spoke to her. "Hey Zeke!" Angel beamed as she looked at the picture he was laughing at. "I know right." Angel wondered what it would have been like. "If that is a really picture of a troll I wish I could go back in time to see it." Angel giggled. "Serious I would pay to go back in time if it was." Angel would love to see a Troll dancing around in a tutu.

"How are you today?" Angel suddenly asked Zeke as she suddenly turned back around to him. "What you doing?" Angel had no idea what to do and it might be fun if she joined him.

He could barely take his eyes off it. THE TROOOOOLLLLLLLL..s.... in TUUTTTUUUUU... s. Yeah, hilarious. His gaze was trained on one, because it was simply so ludicrous, and then, because he thought it was amusing, instead of annotating his makeshift map with WORDS to describe the art work thing... he drew a stick figure troll in a tutu. HEHEHEHE.

"Tapestry," he corrected with an instinct he didn't know existed. "It's not a PICTURE per se," he clarified, swishing the feather end of his quill over its surface as if tickling it. But there was a more pressing aspect to point out, one that only improved his mood. "Why go back in time when we could just find a troll and a tutu?" Duuuuuuuhhhhh. Nothing better than the real deal right here and now, no? But of course, going BACK in time would have its perks too... so long as they didn't step on butterflies which would result in people having toasters for heads. Awkward.

"Eeehhh, I'm 'kay," he mused, shrugging, "just doing a bit of mapping and exploring and stuff." You know, USUAL Gryffindor stuff. Or so he thought. "How bout you? You 'kay?" he asked.

Angel blushed. "Yeah I know.. I was just so excited." Angel knew it was a Tapestry but for some strange reason had called it a picture. "Oh I just thought if this troll was up for it... it would be best for us to go and see this particular troll." Angel looked at Zeke at his next suggestions. "Oh would be cool to see what the troll would say if we asked it nicely if it would actually sit still whilst we put the tutu on." Angel giggled.

"Oh awesome. I'm doing the same thing." Angel said, she loved doing Gryffindor stuff and was glad to hang out and just explore the castle. "Oh I'm better than I was at the feast." Angel sighed as she thought about a few things that had happened.

She was excited, of course she was... it was a girl thing right? Any girl would be interested to see a troll in a tutu... .... yeah, no, he'd NEVER understand girls, except for Ashley, but she was different. It had only occurred to him, Avery might like the tapestry, she did ballet so it was only natural for her to appreciate this, right? He'd have to owl her soon. "Fair enough," he decided, shrugging. He couldn't though, agree with the rest of the girls logic. THAT particular troll? Noooooo... and as for ASKING trolls... that was a no too. Surely. "I think we'd have to FORCE them into it," he thought out loud. "Or you know, imperio them or something." As illegal as it was, he was sure Emily would let him off the hook somehow, she was the head boss lady of law stuff, so, ner.

"You're drawing a map too?" he asked, confused. Where was her map-making STUFF then huh? "Wanna compare notes? I think I'm fairly accurate in the width-length-generalspacemeasuring stuff..." mmhhmmm. He failed at numbers, but guestimating was a skill he was well practiced with. The feast? The feast? What happened at the feast?..... OOOHHH! He remembered there being SOMETHING happening, and there had been crying involved, but he payed it no attention at the time. "That's good, I 'spose."

Up the stairs, down the stairs, back up the stairs, back down the stairs. Merlin, this was a workout.

Thornton sighed and dropped his bag, taking a moment to lean against the wall. He'd been carrying the vast majority of his books everywhere he went, so that he would not have to run back up the stairs if he found himself with a moment to study in the library, or between classes on, say, the first floor.

"This is ridiculous," he mumbled, staring at the bag practically bursting. Rubbing his left shoulder, he looked up the hall toward the common room, then down the corridor back toward the stairs.

"You'd think someone would have figured out how to make this easier," he grumbled, kicking his bag, assuming that no one was paying much attention to him. Books spilled out of the bag and across the floor. Sighing, Thornton bent down to begin picking them up.

Dante had heard from the only normal girl he has met yet, Lotus. Tat the Room of Requirements should be around here somewhere. Talk about a work out. Walking all the stairs up to the Seventh Floor. It did not matter if the staircases moved. It was still a workout. So now he was looking for that the thing with Barnabus and place to sit down. Maybe both. He could sit down at the base of the thing. Yeah, that could work. But he did not expect it to be a tapestry.

An awesome tapestry at that.

But he was sidetrack by the dude he met on the boats over here. Thornton was it. He remembered because he was a proper gentleman, he was. So Dante decided to help him instead of walk by and laugh internally. "You need some help Thornton?"

Looked like he could use some help relaxing as well.

Thornton looked up, startled that someone was addressing him. Internally, he scolded himself for such an impolite display. What was happening to him, here?

Crouched on the ground, he looked up. "Hi, Dante," he said sheepishly. "I'm alright. Just got a little frustrated." He grabbed the loose books and quills, hastily shoving them into his bag. "I think the bag weighs more than I do."

Dragging it over to the wall, Thornton finally stood up straight, but not before brushing some unseen dust off his knees. "It's a horribly inefficient system, living in a tower, eating all the way down on the ground level, classes everywhere in between. You're lucky, having been sorted into a house that lives nearer the ground." He paused. "What are you doing all the way up here?"

Well he could see that, with all the books all over the place. Why did he have so many books. Was he a typical ravenclaw, unlike his brother. Could be, probably. "You sure and yeah it looks like that. Why you caring around so many books?" There were no classes right now. Well none Dante had to be at. Maybe he was one of those studious people that liked to study and read big books. It was possible.

"Well, you are right. But it is a good work out. I'll give it that. I'm out of breath walking up here. Though living in a Tower sounds cool. Oh, i was looking for The Room of Requirements. Might have gotten lost."

He was definitely lost.

It was that time of day again. Although there really was no set time of day in which he took Pebbles (http://s969.photobucket.com/user/sweetpinkpixie/media/Airey%20Flamsteed/SS%20Astronomy/petrock2.jpg.html) for a walk. It was more a spur of the moment sort of decision made when he was feeling especially idle and needed something to occupy his time.

Pink leash tied around her body just below the googly eyes, the astronomer held her ceremoniously in his right hand as he walked down the corridor. He would put her down and drag her along walk her once they got outside.

"You ought to have someone place an Extension Charm on your bag," he said casually as he walked past the two boys, offering them an enthusiastic salute and grin as he did. "Two fwoopers with one stone. Won't weigh as much as you AND you can use it to stuff extra treats into from the kitchen or feast to make one less trip down to from the Ravenclaw Tower."

As for the map topic of conversation, well, he had little to say on it and preferred to live by the immortal words of 'not all those who wander are lost'. Especially first years. They should get lost in Hogwarts to help them learn. Unlike Mr. Bay who should have known better.

Thornton shrugged. "If I carry them, I'll have them whenever I need them without having to come all the way back up here to the tower. Even if the view is really cool." But maybe walking up and down the stairs wouldn't be so HARD if he didn't carry all of his books all of the time. For being a Ravenclaw, the common sense things were not exactly a skill.

He was about to say something about the Room of Requirement, but his thoughts were interrupted.

IT WAS THE MAN WHO JUMPED ON THE TABLE

Thornton looked up as the Astronomy professor, trying not to stare at the... what was that in his hand? A rock? With eyes?

"An extension charm, Professor?" Thornton thought about it for a moment. Yes. Yes that would do. "Um.. would you be able to do it? Unless of course you're on your way somewhere..." Thornton was trying not to stare at what he was now realizing was a rock, with eyes, and... felt ears? On a leash.

He looked at Dante quickly, so as not to be caught staring. "Oh, or maybe you could help Dante figure out where he was going?"

oh its Erik ok
09-10-2014, 02:59 AM
Well, he could just not need them or just have a time to read. It would make his shoulder/back feel a lot better. So the view was awesome. Dante wanted to get into that common room and see it for himself. He could do riddles. "Well, that is one logical reason for having so many books" Though it did not look like it was doing his health any favors.

Dante was about to offer to help with holding his back since he was now distracted with this and being nice. But this Professor was it, was here now. With a rock with googly eyes and ears. Well okay now that takes the cake for weirdest thing he has saw today. The Professor did look nice in his suit. He had to admit that.

Extension Charms. Sounded advanced and a nice charm to learn. Dante hoped he would learn how to do that in the future.

"Nice suit. Professor.....Couldn't you magically give your rock legs or something. Better than just dragging it and i was on my way to the Room of Requirements. But....yeah"

sweetpinkpixie

Gingerly setting Pebbles down on the ground - and pointing his finger firmly at her to stay - he reached into his enchanted breast pocket for his wand holster and nodded. "I certainly can, but it is also quite the handy little spell for you to have in your own spellwork arsenal. Assuming, of course, you would be willing to give it a go."

That went for both of them, by the way.

Although the Slytherin seemed to have other plans that did not involve impromptu spell lessons in the middle of a corridor in front of dancing trolls.

"One does not simply walk the corridors of Hogwarts looking for the Room of Requirement and expect it to appear," Airey chuckled. "It only appears to those in great need of it. I personally found it during my Hogwarts days my 4th years when I was in desperate need of the loo." To the point where he could hardly walk, actually. Had been quite the relief to have that door appear before him. "You may want to give that a go. Walking around asking for the room to appear before you without a true need won't help you at all."

His blue eyes looked down to Pebbles, who was resting comfortably against the stone floor. "And alter her appearance for my own convenience? No thank you, young man. I quite like Pebbles just the way she is. Giving her legs I fear would cause quite the alarm. May think that there was a pogrebin following me and either kick her or blast her to smithereens!"

Thornton quirked his head to the side at Dante's response to the professor. Whhhhhy would you directly address the fact that the man was carrying a rock as if it were a pet. As for the Room of Requirement, Thornton didn't care very much. If he truly had need, then the room would find him. And if he didn't, well, then he didn't need to find it.

But it was the Professor's reply to Dante that had Thornton really looking at them both with wide eyes. How was this even a conversation? Pebbles? What even?

Thornton, however, had a need. Stepping forward, he cleared his throat. "I'm.. I'm sure that he didn't mean to imply that, uh, Pebbles was lacking in any way or meant to suggest something that would cause her harm..." He paused, hoping that he'd adequately interceded on Dante's behalf.

"But, back to the extension charm," he said hopefully. "Do you think it's something a first year could manage? Or am I likely to accidentally extend my foot? Or blow up the bag?"

Because it was full of books. And that would be terribly sad.

Angel looked shocked at what the boy said, why did things have to be like that she would never understand boys and their way of doing things. "Oh well maybe I could watch if we couldn't ask the troll nicely." Angel didn't think it would be nice been forced to do something you didn't want to do.

Angel went into her bag, I started it last year when we had snow in the grounds, it was really bad so we didn't get to go outside. Angel handed over the map to Zeke. "Hope you like it." Angel thought it would be cool if he did. "As you can see I've got most things down but I'm not sure I've got everything so I'm double checking. "What do you think?" Angel then heard what Zeke said. "Yeah it is." Angel beamed. "Want to have a walk around the school and see what we can find?"

....... ........... why would trolls wear anything, let alone strange things all the time? Zeke smiled, nodded and refrained from laughing out loud. Angel had some strange ideas indeed, but of course, she was a girl. XD

This was also made evident with her not wanting to... force? trolls into things? So she'd be a spectator? BORRRRIIIINNNGGG. "I don't think trolls are the type of creatures to be nice, let alone do things because you ask nicely," he mused, wondering if maybe it said something in his Creatures textbook. But ehhhh, no biggie.

She hadn't said yes or no, but considering she was rifling through her bag, that had to mean SOMETHING. Of course it all became clear when she started going on about being trapped in the castle last year, he could see how that might lead to mapping. Yep. "Oh cool," he murmured, taking the map she held out to him. He inspected it, running his eyes over the lines of the places he was still yet to visit. Made his map look like chicken scratch. "You should finish it one day," he encouraged, confirming this with a nod. The invitation to explore the castle with her was well received, Zeke's face split into a wide grin. "That'd be cool, you'd know all the cool places to go, right?"

AJ had said they could explore together too, it was a shame she wasn't here... they could make a party of it, but either way, Angel's company would be appreciated.

Angel always thought that the first thing was to try and get out of things without getting into an argument because that was weird.

Angel smiled as she looked at the map. "Oh I intend to finish the map." Angel really wanted to have the best map possible. "I just wish AJ would get involved too, but I'm not sure that she wants to help with the map, I haven't shown her it yet." Angel looked at Zeke as she tried to think about a great place. Well Dante did know where it was. He was just a little lost now. He was on the right floor. Just had to find it simple enough. "Hmm...well i do need to find it. Just want to make my own skate park or a place that has a book of awesome puns." Both would be awesome. And yes he was implying that his pet rock was lacking in the way of legs. Who has a pet rock, really. Dragging it around seemed undignified. and looked lazy. Plus that was a pretty big word there.

Undignified. Makes you sound smart if you say it.

Maybe he was right. OF COURSE HE WAS RIGHT! Trolls were all smelly and dirty and gnarly and cool and they did not do girly things like ballet without being forced into it, and even then they'd likely try to kill you first. At any rate, he didn't need to comment further.

What would be nice though, would be seeing the map complete. "Promise to show me when it's finished?" he asked. It was a shame to hear that AJ wasn't involved though, she was awesome. "You should, she might want to help," he encouraged with a shrug. He wasn't about to assume things that girls thought, but it sounded legit. But alas, adventure was on the cards, and Angel had some neat ideas. "Secret passage you say?" he asked, a grin forming. He didn't much care for swamps or portraits, but SECRET or FORMERLY SECRET places sounded cool.

Airey's eyes drifted towards the Ravenclaw and a slight smug smile tugged at the corners of his lips. He could tell this first year was a Pebbles fan already. He could just see it in that little sparkle in his. That one right there that was quite possibly a figment of his imagination.

"Of course of course," he nodded, offering the Ravenclaw a salute before his attention was drawn away to the Slytherin and something in particular he said. "You know, I have quite the pun collection in my office. Handcrafted by a former student of mine," he half offered half reminisced. He wasn't sure if the library would hold something as 'un-academic' as a book of puns...but was quite possible.

Removing his suit jacket and conjuring himself a coat rack to hang it on, the professor rolled up his sleeves and looked back to the curious Ravenclaw. "I really ought to know the two of yous names," he chuckled. "Professor Flamsteed, or Professor Airey if you prefer. I teach Astronomy here at Hogwarts...aaaaaaand also impromptu spell lessons in corridors when the timing is right." They were already acquainted with Pebbles, so there was no need to do further introductions there.

"Now, as for this charm. It's quite advanced for a first year, but not impossible," he nodded. "And it's not THAT sort of an expansion charm. Be sure not to confuse it with the engorgement charm. Now THAT would make your head and foot grow on the exterior, but what the expansion charm will do is expand the inner dimensions of a thing." Which...he supposed you could do on a part of your body...although those consequences were rather frightening.

Best leaving it as something that couldn't be done. Yup.

And hold on a second...he needed to backtrack a bit and ask the Slytherin a question. "And what is a skate park?" Sounded exciting...whatever it was.

"Thornton Baines, sir," the young boy offered simply, his ears perking at Astronomy. Should the impromptu spell lesson not be a disaster, he may need to go visit the man in his office.

He breathed a sigh of relief when Flamsteed explained that it wasn't like an engorgement charm and only affected inner dimensions. Wait. What if he hit his foot? Would it end up hollow? What would happen to his bones if the INSIDE of his foot was expansive. How would he even know...

Stop it, Thornton. Taking a deep breath, he pulled out his wand. Difficult, but not impossible. He'd give it a go. Hopefully, he wouldn't screw anything up too much. The wand felt awkward in his hand; too big almost. When he'd purchased it, it had certainly been a match, but it still was a bit much for his small hand. He let it roll across his palm, considering it.

His stomach flopped, as he waited for instruction, trying to convince himself that success or failure in this instant would not define him.

Oh, did this Professor like jokes too. That was pretty cool. He might even visit sometime to look at this book of his. It sounded pretty awesome.

So he was the Astrology...Astronomy Professor. Well that was one class Dante was going to be taking. Cool. Dante wished he could wear a suit like that. Fancy. Maybe with a fedora and cane. Would look like a boss wearing those things. Yeah, with those two things. "Dante Barrington, at your service" Dante said bowing. Even meeting a Professor was time to have some fun.

The Professor was using a lot of big words in his explaining of this expansion charm. Dante might have to come back to this when he was older and actually knew some awesome advanced spells. Though practicing it could be fun...So why not listen and learn something.

A skate park?

"Well it is a place with empty pools, ramps, and rails. To skateboard on and in. It is fun" If you knew how to skateboard that is.

Angel smiled at Zeke as she looked at the map. "I promise I'll show you." Angel then suddenly had another idea. "Unless you want to help me finish it." Angel thought that two heads would be better than one and they could get more done.

Angel listened to what Zeke had to say about her sister. "I'll think about it." Angel sighed, seriously her sister was better than her at everything and well she wanted to do something on her own that was amazing and she could be proud of. "Yeah... well it used to be, but in the Battle of Hogwarts something happened that sealed it up, so it doesn't go anywhere now. It's on the fifth floor behind a statue." Angel smiled

Gooooood! He'd get to see the finished product, and it very well might motivate him to complete his own.. though, with seven years, he figured he could achieve that much at least. Even if he got two floors done this year, he'd be on target to complete the lot. And then came Angel's offer. HELP her finish it? ............. "Yeah, I 'spose, I wouldn't mind helping out," he replied, nodding his answer. It wouldn't stop him from completing his own later, and if anything it'd be good practice. "We should... yeah." YEAH!

But really, what he was most interested in now, was this secret passage thing. It sounded fancy awesome, and definitely adventure worthy. Of course, he hadn't counted on Angel bursting his bubble. Sealed off!!! ..... SEALED OFF! "Right..." he started, not sure how to take the news. "Is it COMPLETELY completely sealed off? Or is there still a part of it to see and explore?" Of was it literally like a cemented over section of wall? T__________T

"My esteem pleasure to meet you both, Mr. Baines...Mr..." Wait...did he just say Barrington? "...Barrington. No need for the sir. Sir is reserved for the likes of my father." Made him feel old and he wasn't THAT old yet. He paused again to just stare at the Slytherin first year good and hard for a few moment. "I don't suppose the appreciation of puns is something that....runs in the family, does it?"

After all, just because someone had the last name Potter or Brown or Williams did not mean that they were related. Quite the popular names these days anyway.

"Well then...this skate park sounds intriguing...mind if I go with you one of these times to see for myself?" Assuming the boy did end up finding it and all that. Hadn't Mr. Tempus and Mr. Barton mentioned something about this sort of facility before as well?

Oh, Mr. Baines had his wand out already. Twirling his own between his fingers, the astronomer looked down as his person for something to use to help demonstrate. He supposed he could use his shoe....

"Would you both like to give this a go then?" Since it had only been the Ravenclaw who seemed interested at the moment. "Could fit all your...skate park things into your bag and make it easier to zoom to the Room of Requirement after lessons are over."

Time efficiency. It was a real thing.

Well this Flamsteed looked like a Sir. He was old. So that is why he called him that. And Sir Flamsteed sounded like an awesome name. Well maybe to Dante. Sir Dante sounded even more amazing. Uh, Dante never thought about that. He was probably right "Uh, I guess it does. They are pretty awesome" They are just so stupid. You can't help but laugh. It was true.

And skate-parks were totally cool. If you knew how to skateboard and not afraid to get hurt having fun. "Umm....Sure. I don't mind. You know how to skateboard, Professor?"

Dante shrugged. He was still here and listening, wasn't he. So sure why give it a go then. Yeah and that was an awesome reason for learning this charm. "Wait so you could fit a skateboard and all your pads in a little bag with this charm...If so then of course i want to learn it"

There was too much magic to learn. This and the transfiguration book he got from Bellaire.

Aha! He knew it. Or rather had assumed it. "Have on older brother that graduated last term?" he asked. Totally a rhetorical one because Airey was 99.9% positive he already knew the answer.

As for the skateboarding...

"Can't say that do, but no time like the present to learn," he replied with an eager bounce in his step. First pogo sticks and now skateboards. Just what would students teach him next?!

Oh, speaking of teaching...

"Precisely, Mr. Barrington," he confirmed, throwing a wink at Mr. Baines as he did as he slipped off his right shoe and knelt down to pick it up. "I suggest you get your wand out like Mr. Baines has so we can get started." And maybe remove a shoe to practice on? It was up to them. "The wand movement is simple enough, just a light tap. Make sure you have the movement come from your wrist rather than your arm." And don't poke anyone's eyes out while practicing that.

Not that he was speaking from personal experience or anything. Ahem.

"Speak the incantation nice and clearly...Magnus Centrum...go ahead and give it a go. See what happens." While he took a few small steps to the side just in case. How Piers, or any of the other spell based professors really, put up with spell induced kabooms wa beyond him. Airey much preferred the scientific based kabooms. Those tended to have a logical and somewhat predictable trail.

Goodness, Thornton was nervous. Wand in hand, he looked down at his bag and got a flutter in his stomach. Not yet ready to chance it, he quickly scurried over and pulled out a smaller bag from within it.

Carefully extracting his quills (he always carried at least two!) and inks (so maybe he liked to color-code his notes), he set them aside against the wall, so that the small bag sat by itself, empty on the corridor floor.

Biting his lip, he looked at the professor and nodded, whispering the incantation under his breath. His palms felt sweaty and his wand felt awkward in his hand.

"Small tap. From the wrist." He repeated the instructions with his eyes closed, before finally approaching the bag. Was he meant to actually tap the bag or just mimic it. Rather than ask, Thornton dropped to his knees next to the bag.

The movement he could do. Small wrist movements were important with string instruments.. Ok, Thornton, enough stalling.

"Magnus Centrum," he said, timidly and with some hesitation, with a small tap on the edge of the bag. Thornton looked at the bag expectantly. It still looked the same, but from what Professor Flamsteed had said, it would, but for the inner dimensions. Hastily, Thornton thrust his hand into the bag to see how deep it went and...

promptly smashed his hand into the floor.

"Ow."

Well, that hadn't worked.

"Yeah" Nigel was here last year. Merlin, he knew everyone. Dante did not know whether to be impressed or scared by the sheer number. And he wanted to learn. Well that was cool and there seemed to be a lot of people at this school to learn from. Dante nodded. Plus it was fun to learn. Well fun to Dante since he did not mind falling down constantly.

This spell was getting more awesome by the minute. Though seemed hard since Thornton seemed to hurt himself. Dante took out his wand after watching Thornton fail on his first attempt. Well the wand movement thing sounded easy. Just a tap from the wrist. He just had to whip it. "Alright. Magnus Centrum" Dante said flicking with his wrist a little too hard and without realizing lost a grip on his wand.

It actually flew pretty far. Dante would be impressed. If he was not nervous it would break. Thank Merlin it did not. "....Yeah, that was a failed attempt" Dante said speed walking over and picking up his wand.

Thank Merlin again. It was not broken

Hmmm...well...he would have been entirely too optimistic if he had expected them to get it all right on the first go. And sweet solstice did Mr. Baines seem the sort that could REALLY benefit from the use of this charm. He was packing Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop in his pockets!

"Right, well, I probably should have demonstrated first before setting the two of you loose," he said, clearing his throat as he bent over to slip his sock off as well. Better tool for demonstrating...and made for a good puppet in a pinch to avoid unnecessary awkwardness. Pulling his sock over his left hand he looked down at Pebbles who was still sitting on the floor. Probably thinking she was forgotten.

"Here, Mr. Baines, you hold Pebbles for just a moment so she is safely out of the way," he instructed as he handed the rock to him. Just in case the fibers in his sock were to have a less than favorable reaction to be further enchanted.

"Let's avoid use of the term fail, shall we. Sets the brain up to think negative things when spellcasting requires the positive," he continued, speading his legs shoulder's width apart and holding his left hand up as though his sock were in fact a puppet. "Magnus Centrum," he commanded, giving the sock on his hand a tap. He then began to pull at the hem until the sock came up to his shoulder but still retained its original sock-y shape. "TADA!"

Thornton winced instinctively as Dante's wand flew across the corridor. Well, at least Thornton had managed to hold on to the wand. But... was Flamsteed taking off his sock now? Merciful Merlin, that man was odd.

Oh. And Pebbles. Thornton reached up from his seated position on the floor to receive the rock!pet and cradled her in both hands. Lowering them to his lap, he wasn't exactly sure what else to do with her. What if something... fell off?? Would Flamsteed blame him if Pebbles lost an ear, for example? So he held her gingerly, his concentration divided between Pebbles and the demonstration.

But then, oh, ew. Thornton's nose twitched when the man put the sock on his hand.

HOLY KNEAZLES. Thornton's eyes went wide. Flamsteed's arm had disappeared into the sock and so it looked as if the man had a sock at the end of a stump. "Whoa."

Thornton held Pebbles and looked at Dante. He'd try it now, yes?

Well it would have helped Dante's wand if he showed him a example of the spell. Too late now of course. Dante blew on his wand getting the dirt and dust off of it. The floor was surprisingly dirty.

Thank, Merlin. Flamsteed gave the rock to Thornton. He could not handle having to hold the thing. Would probably drop it for fun. Though he would probably get detention for that. Whoa, that was some serious awesome magic. It looked like a muggle magic show. His hand disappeared in the sock. Dante started clapping.

Very Impressive.

Wait, Thornton was going to pass this turn to him. Well it is not like he cared. Dante shrugged and with a flick of his wrist tapped Thornton's bag and said "Magnus Centrum" Now to see if it worked. Dante put his hands in the bag and almost fell into it. "Whoa this is pretty cool. I could probably fit in this bag now."

And oh. He did the spell right....Awesome. Yeah.

Airey took a humble bow, sock still on his arm, and then turned towards Mr. Baines. "I'll take her back now, thank you," he said with both hands greedily reaching out towards his pet rock. "You can give it a go again much easier without holding on to her."

Oooooooh, look at that! "Well done, Mr. Barrington! You seem to have a natural knack for Charms. I am sure you will impress Professor Fuller." He took a small step towards the Slytherin and peeked in, small smirk tugging at his features. "Looks like you could fit in that now..."

Thornton handed Pebbles back to Flamsteed carefully, laying her in the one hand that actually was visible, exhaling the breath he didn't know he was holding once she was out of his possession. He tried not to stare at the arm that wasn't quite there.

Picking his wand back up, Thornton cleared his throat and tried to steady his breath. If Dante could do it so quickly, then clearly Thornton could too, right? "Magnus Centrum" he said calmly as he tapped the smaller bag, though his wand hand ached from slamming it into the ground before. But his wand glanced off the zipper and hit the floor. Sighing, Thornton ran his hand along the inside of the bag, careful this time. "It's still the same," he said glumly.

What he didn't know, was that his wand had hit a teeny hole in the stone of the floor, and the spell had worked! It was too small an opening for anything living to fall in, but as Thornton stood, his shoe pushed some dirt into the hole and it just kept falling and falling and falling.

He holstered his wand and shrugged. "I.. I guess I'll have to keep practicing in the dorms." He looked over at his pile of books and quills and ink and then over to his over-packed school bag. "Can, um.. can one of you do my bag for me?"

Well if charms was more of this then Dante was happy to have a knack for it. Better than math or something. "Thanks and i think you are right" Dante stuck his head in the bag to make sure. It was something else. But enough of looking in a empty bag. Dante took his head out and turned to watch Thornton try it.

Oh, maybe Dante was being a little optimistic thinking Thornton could do it too. Well he tried.

"Ah, it will probably be best if you do it, Professor. Don't want me messing up and setting fire to his bag."

Now that would be awesome. Just not to Thornton.

Hmmm...Airey had a few suspicions regarding Mr. Baines - but not wanting to say anything just now since they had a bit of an audience - he simply nodded his head at the young man's words. "I high recommend socks as a practice tool," he said, finally slipping his own back on his foot after removing the charm. "You can also ask Professor Fuller for additional practice tools should you feel the need."

The grump was the Charms professor, after all. Had to direct students to him when it was most applicable...even if Airey found the bloke a bit arrogant and with selective hearing and vision when it came to the astronomer.

Performing the enchantment silently, Airey bent down and picked up the Ravenclaw's bag to reach inside... "Yep, that will do it," he nodded, handing it back to the boy with a grin.

His attention drifted back towards Mr. Barrington and...his bag. "I reckon I may be able to fit in it too," he mused. And if the Slytherin wasn't going to try to climb in...then it was clearly the job of a Gryffindor. He'd always wanted to try doing this, step inside something with an Extension Charm on it, so this was one of those bucket list moments. "I'll just take my shoes off first and..." he said as he banished his shoes over to the wall and stuck both his feet into the bag. "...and just wiggle my way down then..."

"Thank you, Professor," he said, taking the bag and beginning to put his things back in it. It DID feel remarkably lighter and would be much easier to carry. He had a fleeting moment of panic about how to find things inside and get them out, but he had bothered the Astronomy professor enough for one day.

He would seek out Fuller.

But his train of thought was broken when he heard the man suggest that he was going to GET INTO the bag. How far did things like that extend? How would he get out?

"No, professor, wait," Thornton pleaded. While you can still hold onto the edge of the bag.

Well Dante was not going to be getting in an magical bag. He would watch for sure and put his head in it. But actually step into it. That was somewhat insane. "I bet you could" It did look like someone could fit into it. Just not Dante. Maybe Flamsteed, if he was crazy enough. For this brief meeting. He would say yes he was.

A pet rock, case closed.

Whoa, wait he was actually going to do it. Dante eyed widen as he watched Flamsteed take a step into his bag. "Do It, Professor. Shimmy down into that bag. Don't worry i will tell the Headmistress if anything goes wrong." Dante said smiling.

Inform the Headmistress. Of course, because that would be a brilliant way for him to keep whatever respect he had left in the woman's eyes.

"Actually, I would prefer you inform Professor Romanos should something go wrong," he said, index finger wiggling in the air as he moved to sit down. It really was quite spacious in here. His attention then moved to Mr. Baines. "Relax, Mr. Baines. Learn to enjoy the adventure that is life. Try new things and live on the edge a little."

Essentially, tune in to that inner Gryffindor that everyone had hidden deep down in there somewhere.

Fully sitting down now, the over 6 foot and gangly astronomer found that his head was still sticking out of the bag from the neck up. Hmmm...interesting. Perhaps there was some sort of correlation between the mass of the charmed object and the mass of the object or objects being put into said bag. Hmmm...HMMMMM....further experimentation may be necessary.

Rela-- Live on the e-- Yeah, no. As the man lowered himself into the bag, Thornton held his breath, only exhaling once it was clear that the professor had not disappeared forever into Dante's bag and they would not need to summon the headmistress or Professor Romanos or the healer or anyone else.

Walking over timidly, he laughed at the sight. When he got closer, the angle allowed him to see the man's whole body, sat perfectly normally on the bottom of the bag. He looked up at Dante and then back down to the professor, a thought crossing his mind.

"So, you could carry someone around like this, then, couldn't you?" He meant it completely innocently, thinking about what a kick his sister would get out of being carried around in something that had been extended. It would never have occurred to him that it could be used in mischievous or malevolent ways.

His mind then went to thinking about putting one extended object inside another. Was there a limit? Could he carry an entire library like that?

Did not know any Professor Romanos' yet. So if he did get lost in the bag. Dante would just take the bag to the Headmistress. But he had to assure Flamsteed so.

"Okay, to Professor Romanos i would go"

To tell the truth. It looked like Flamsteed was giving Thornton a panic attack. Though just a head sticking out of the bag would do that to most anyone. Dante looked at Thornton with an evil glint in his eye once he said that. It was just too perfect not to try.

Without asking. Dante bent over an picked up the bag. You know what his brother would say For Science and all that. Fun. "How does this feel Professor?"

Curious minds needed to know.

Offering both boys a salute, he wiggled his bum around a bit more to get comfortable and chuckled at Mr. Baines' thought. He had never tried that before - save for Pebbles when they had gone excavating for precious rocks to add to his collection, but he supposed that it was entirely possible...

OOOOOOOOOOH!

"Well, will you look at that. Looks like we just proved your hypothesis right, Mr. Baines!" he grinned as the bag was lifted up off the ground. Excellent use of the scientific method right now. Stellar even. "Feels a bit odd to be honest," he nodded, peering his head over the edge of the bag to look at the ground.

And now he knew how ridiculous it must feel for those creatures that got carried around in bags.

....and on that thought he was most definitely ready to get out of the bag.

What if he dropped him? What if Flamsteed got angry? What if it hurt him? What if what if what if... panic panic panic.

Thornton took a few rushed steps forward, anticipating that he would try to grab the bag or something. But he stopped short when it seemed like the professor was actually enjoying the ride. So... they weren't going be expelled, then. Good.

When the professor asked to be put down, Thornton looked to Dante expectantly. Yes, please, put him down now. Thornton didn't know Dante all that well, and part of him wondered if he was the type of boy to hold the professor hostage or take him somewhere else.

Nice and slow, Dante. Please.

This was completely AWESOME. Dante was holding a Professors head in a bag and he was not in trouble. Of course he was not going to push this anymore. With his luck he would get in trouble. "Well i answered your question, Thornton. Didn't I?" Dante said smirking. Don't ask question you don't want the answer to.

Dante bet it felt a bit odd. Flammy was a head basically right now. Dante nodded filing this info away in his head. Ah right time to set him down. Slowly Dante set the bag back on the ground.

"You want to try next Thornton?" Dante asking smiling. Of course he would say no. But it could not hurt to ask.

Nodding his head back and forth as he was lowered to the ground, Airey gave Mr. Baines a quick salute for reassurance purposes mostly. Really, it would take more than an enchanted bag to take this astronomer. He had survived a centrifuge training accident after all.

"Thank you, Mr. Barrington," he said as he felt the hard surface of the ground beneath him. Giving his surroundings one last wiggle, he removed himself from the bag - legs first - and stood beside it. "Just crossed one thing off my life's bucket list."

Salutes to the pair of you!

"Yes, go ahead and give it a go. Quite the experience."

Thornton was beginning to breathe again, as the bag touched the ground and the professor climbed out. It hadn't been so much that he was scared of the bag itself, necessarily, but he was profoundly worried about what would have happened if the adult in the situation was hurt, or worse, angry. But Flamsteed had seemed to enjoy himself, which puzzled Thornton. He couldn't imagine any adult he knew trusting a pair of 11-year-olds with something like this.

But then Dante posed a question... Thornton approached the bag and looked down into it, and then back up at the professor. The man had sat down and remained visible, but he was rather tall... Hmmm.

"I.. don't know if I'll be able to get out by myself," he said, thoughtfully, returning his thoughts to the bag. His worry had abated, since Flamsteed has survived unscathed and could now supervise this adventure.

An adventure he would have been positively FORBIDDEN to even discuss at home. Still staring into the bag, he heard Flamsteed's prompting. "Ok." Considering his approach, he sat down on the floor next to the bag, and then lifted his feet over and in and then pushed, sliding down the inner lining of the bag until he reached the bottom.

He stood, then, in the bag, and looked around. He could see the top lip of the bag, but it was just over his head. He imagined it must be like what being in a pit was like.

"Just let me know if you're going to pick it up. I 'd want to sit down."

Dante nodded though he had no idea what a bucket list was. Sounded awesome if being carry around in a bag was on it. "You're welcome" Dante was just happy he was not in trouble. Detention was so much worse than points. He did not care about points. They were pointless to him.

Wait...

Was Thornton actually going to take the plunge into the bag. Dante was joking. He did not think the claw would actually go it. Would you look at that. He had a little crazy in him like Dante's brother.

"I will give Professor Flamsteed the honor of picking you up. Since i have already done it to the Professor"

Plus it was a little weird to hold a bag with a head out of it. It was totally something to experience for yourself.

Still it was cool..but weird.

Airey took a step towards the bag again as the Ravenclaw approached, his blue eyes widening and, yes, twinkling eager when it seemed as though Mr. Baines was going to take his advice and live a little more on the edge.

"Well, good thing you are not alone then, Mr. Baines," he said, placing a firm hand on both boys' shoulders. Steeeeeeeeeeellar. Yet another thing he could cross off his life's bucket list.

"And what an honor it will be," he chirped, a little too eagerly, as he bent down to grab the strap of the bag with both hands. "Why don't you go ahead and climb in there as well, Mr. Barrington?"

"Come on in, Dante. There's plenty of room!" Thornton moved to the side to give Dante room to get in the bag.

This was going to be interesting.

Whoa Thornton was actually going to do it. That was impressive.

Crazy Claw.

Dante was all set to watch this and smile because it was awesome. But then he heard Flamsteed's suggestion and had to think about it. Since he did tell Thornton to do it. He should at least have the....yeah to go along with it.

"Sure, Why Not"

Dante said shrugging. He waited for Thornton to make room in the bag. This bag was a tank for not breaking yet. So here Dante goes. He stepped into the bag and yeah it was definitely a weird feeling. He shimmied on down to just his head as basically visible. "Now this is weird and fascinating"

Still something he would never even imagined doing at home. So points to you Hogwarts.

"Locked and Loaded...I mean ready Professor"

You know what this looked like? It looked like the set up to a stellar joke. No, seriously. It really did, which was why the astronomer was just standing there holding on to the bag with a goofy grin on his face while chuckling from time to time. Probably quite terrifying to look at really.

"Alright then....initiating countdown to lift off ... 10.....9 ....8..." Never mind. That was taking too long. He should have just started at 3. " 7654....3...2...1...UUUUUUUUUP we go!"

Bending at the knees, the astronomer picked the bag up with a little more haste than he had anticipated - momentarily forgot about the whole no additional weight effects of the enchantment - and stumbled backwards a step or two.

"Whoops, sorry there," he chuckled as he gave the two a salute. "Allow me to take this opportunity to thank you both for allowing me to cross off not one, but two things off my life's bucket list. In fact, 4 points each." And with another salute he lowered the bag back down to the floor.

Thornton stumbled as the bag was lifted up and he opted to sit down, lest he completely knock Dante over. The sensation was odd, being carried inside a bag had the feeling of being lifted, but none of the visual stimuli of a change. Thornton found it dizzying.

But quickly, they were back on the ground.

Standing, he considered how exactly he might get out. The lip of the bag was too high to simply push himself out - he didn't have the upper body strength. Maybe he should tip the bag and crawl out? That could end badly.

He looked to Dante and then up at the Professor. "That was fun, but, uh, how do we get out?"

Zahra's new favorite place - the tapestry with trolls in tutus. She'd really, really failed to read up and become a troll expert, but Z had no less appreciate for big beasts. So, here Zahra was again, eying the tapestry, hopping around in front of it, hanging out alone.

Eden was attempting to go back to her common room. Attempting. But she had her potions book open, trying to grasp what she had done wrong in the last lesson--thus almost KILLING Toby, probably--and not paying attention to where the heck she was going..

Ooops.

She could HEAR shuffling ahead--and Eden's big blue eyes looked up-------

Zahra. Kettleburn. Gryffindor. Eden didn't KNOW here year-but if she DID it would be inserted after the Gryffindor part. She just raised an eyebrow at the girl hopping and siiiighed. Hopping was fun. Hopping was EXERCISE. Eden tucked her book under her arm and tilted her head--she was torn between wanting to hop with her and wanting to ask WHY the heck she was hopping. Did the girl want to be in the painting? With the trolls?

SIGH.

Eden had to do it--she JUMPED right next to Zahra and HOPPED in sync with her--MERLIN-

WHOAH HELLO. Eden HOPPED back and EYED the lion so.....INCREDULOUSLY.

MERLIN'S SOCKS.

"What--no--I was hopping WITH you--not AGAINST you--Merlin, Zahra--" she said, squinting at the crazy loonyTOON. "God--" she glared for a minute at her. "Why would I want to fight you?" she asked suspiciously. Should she want to fight Zahra?! SHOULD SHE?

She sloooowly approached the girl again--slowly. In case she was kicked at again.

Shrug. Dunno, don't care.

Why was she hopping with her? See, not only Claws could ask stupid, non-stop questions.

When Eden approached her again, Zahra jumped AT HER! SURPRISE. CATCH!

Eden HOPPED back in surprise---SCREAMED--and fell. ON her bum. OUCH. Her heart was POUNDING in her chest because of THAT little number--

The Ravenclaw grumbled to herself before looking up at Zahra. "Merlin. You're crazy--" she said in a grumpy voice--before attempting to stand once more. "You broke my butt." She raised an eyebrow--because OUCH--see? IT HURT TO TRY TO STAND NOW.

"And when you go to jail I hope they write that you're a butt breaker on your name--that's the worst kind of crime--" she said, trying her best to sound completely serious right now. And knowledgable.

If that was meant to sound like a bad thing, then... fail. "BUTT BREAKER KETTLEBURN. Yeah, that's pretty cool." Zahra didn't know the Claw was so unstable though. She was supposed to CATCH Z, not fall down. Man. Can't depend on Claws for anything.

Z did try to give her a hand up though.

"I probably won't go to jail though. I mean, I didn't actually do anything. You're the one creeping on people and keeling over all weird-like." Just saying.

Eden could have rolled her eyes right out of her head. MERLIN. "Butt breaker Kettleburn." It actually did sound cool. Ugh. Eden had inadvertently given her a baddddddd nickname--but like bad in a good way. Because that made total sense.

"You're right. You won't go to jail--" SIGH. She was standing, though, and rubbing her bum. "I was trying to be a hopping buddy. Build comrade-ery. You know. Like. Friends." AHEM. She raised an eyebrow slowly at Zahra. "Do you even know my name? I know YOURS." So Zahra should in return know EDEN'S.

If she didn't - RUDE.

At this point Zander was starting to get kind of frustrated. How come finding a sock was so darn difficult? It shouldn't be this hard. Like, how many unpaired socks could possibly be lying around partnerless this high up in the castle? Was it possible that he was holding his map upside down or something? That maybe he asked the crystal wrong?

.... Looking around this side of the corridor, Zander decided to pop his head around the different corners, before turning to the portrait. "Have you seen a sock around here?" But of course they hadn't. So that was pointless.

Standing in front of the funny looking painting, Zander took out his map once again, this time actually having to dig around his bag due to the unnecessary amount of socks he had managed to accio over (none of them even being the sock that he was looking for to begin with!!).

Okay... There was definitely no mistake with the map. There couldn't possibly be.

Alexa didn't have time for the crystal, not when you could only ask 'yes' or 'no' questions and she was in a rush. What was she gonna do, sit and ask location by location until she finally got a yes? By then Felix would have surely moved on to somewhere else and she wouldn't be any closer to finding him. She'd admit it proved of some use, back when she asked it whether or not her kneazle was inside the castle. The yes was reassuring...unless the crystal considered the owlery an active part of the school. That was another depressing story in itself.

Feeling she'd been set in the right direction, the Gryffindor figuring she knew where she was meant to be looking just had to get there. There was hardly any caution to search taken as she approached the statue of Barnabus the Barmy. He wasn't here, the crystal didn't have to tell her as much.

Inside the castle, yup...though that was still a lot of ground to cover...Reluctantly, Alexa lifted the crystal on it's string. "Is he on the 7th floor?" Because there was still one other place and it was a LONG walk down. Lex watched and waited until finally movement...in the shape of a circle. Yup! Definitely knew where he was now and the Gryffindor put a little more pep in her step.

Most likely he was sitting there waiting right where she thought he was.
