Accessible both from the Potions Laboratory and the classroom, this small room stands between them and thus has two doors symmetrically positioned. More than four people in the room at a time would feel suffocating. Most of the shelves are open to students, who are welcome to use them rationally. At one corner of the room, though, there is a windowpaned section and no matter how hard you pull it, it won't open or break despite the charms you perform. It is obviously the private supplies of Professor Culloden and those other professors who wish to use them, and you will get in trouble if you try too hard without notifying Professor himself.

The slight rattling and clinking of phials and glass bottles as Cutty slowly and carefully rummaged through the potions storage looking for flobberworm mucus. He was out. Again. He'd do this first and then he'd go and see Professor Culloden. He had something for the man. Something he thought he'd like for he collected it himself.

Were these ingredients sorted by living source (bundimun, armadillo)? Or by substance (secretion, bile)? Maybe he should reorganize them for the professor. He was halfway through humming his ode to bring Pebbles back when he realized they were in fact sorted by source. H'mm. Interesting.

Cosgrach... yearned for... ugh, he didn't know what he wanted to eat, but he did... or was it a drink that he wanted? He groaned to himself. This was not good at all, because Cosgrach Culloden was used to having what he wanted, but he had to know... so he decided to tour his area and see if there are any students he could pick on talk to to distract himself. None in the potions lab, none in the corridor, none -

Oh wait, was someone humming something?

WAS SOMEONE ROBBING HIS STOREROOM?

He rushed to the spot - to see . . . Cutty! Still, actually seeing someone in this storeroom was weird so he asked more curtly than intended: "What are you looking for?"

It was a rather automatic reaction. When you hear someone become cross, the knee-jerk is to become calm and soothing as you are. At least it was if you were the sort of child for whom fear conditioning wasn't all too effective. "My elf-made scotch!" He said as if it was heartbreaking, simply heartbreaking that there was none there. "I hid it in here from the house elves so they wouldn't take it from me. Although I guess I could use Gregory's Unctuous Unction. Same effect more or less, right?" He took out a phial of lovage, examined it quickly and then placed it back in it's place. Did the Professor know he was joking?

Cutty shut the doors on the storeroom and now gave Culloden his full attention. "Oh, Professor. I need yer help on somethin'. I sort of wrote an ode to help Professor Flamsteed bring bach his pet rock and I could use a soundboard. Someone with ..." he looked to the ceiling momentarily as if searching for the right words to use. "Discerning tastes."

Upon Cutty's indecent and brave answer, Cosgrach's tension was replaced with amusement and the man laughed. "If you introduce this friend elf to me, I'll consider this never happened," he joked back, "and might even... provide you with the Unction." HEHEHEHEHE. Funny, both were.

. . . Cutty was joking, right?

Good thing he had expanded the room a bit more, because it was only enough for two people. He gave the boy his full attention too and looked... pretty sceptical. Not at Cutty, no, but at Airey's... request for help. Was he still seriously mourning over that? It was one single, silly rock! Ugh. He bet Airey wouldn't be able to tell the difference if someone just bought him another. OR HEY, Airey could do it himself too! And the whole school from this sadness.

Cosgrach was clever, but had this simple solution never really occured to someone else?

Cutty had him at 'discerning tastes', though (which was completely true), so he man just nodded. "Go ahead," he said as he took the posture of a renowned critic: one hand on his chin, one folded horizontally over his tummy to support the other.

Mhmm, ode master here.

Of course he was joking.

He'd never hide it in the potions storeroom. Everyone checks there for cryin' out loud. Cutty's smile grew larger when he realized he had won a captive audience. Also, he felt that he could stop the Potions master from trying to run if he determined he didn't like it. Oh no. You've said you'd listen and now you're going to get a load of this rhythmic rhyme. And so he began.

"Cause she a dream girl
An eon in the makin
Thanks to her erosion
Won't be another us
Goin through the motion
Like waning gibbous."

Without much of a stop the kid continued the slightly urban sounding irregular rhyme.

"Just like the moon above
Might pull a changing face
Igneous can't run or hide
So she tugs at the surface
And changes up the tide

One day I'll see her again
And we'll be perigee
She'll try another desk & then come back to me
We'll do the summoning spell
that leads to her retrieval
And then we'll right the wrongs
and triumph over evil."

And Cutty stopped there, not only because it was the end but because he felt he was brilliant and it was probably obvious by now. He didn't want to overwhelm their Potions Master.

. . .

. . . . . .

Was Cutty... really... properly... wrote an ode to what was in the end a r o c k ?

Cosgrach... didn't know what to do or say. He just blinked and it took him a short while to notice the boy had finished.

Clap clap clap!

"What an artist!" he exclaimed - he was overwhelmed with emotion, but good or bad he didn't know.

"Did... Airey properly want you - everyone, I mean - to do this?" Like, did the man honestly want to torture them?

Bowing. There was a small and brief bow at the sound of applause. It's what you did. It was impossible to read the expression on Cosgrach Culloden's face, but Cutty wasn't assuming anything negative. And even if it were negative, there were certain benefits to going along with it.

A calm and courtly smile was on the boy's face when he heard and responded to the question about Pebbles. "Oh, yeah. Pebbles is an important part of Flamsteed's teachin' career here at Hogwarts. We've got ter get her back." As if it were naturally the answer.

As of right now, Cosgrach Culloden was probably one of few sane people left at Hogwarts. And not even then.

Oh, how polite. Cutty bowed. Cosgrach smiled at the boy, although he still wasn't sure how he felt about this all.

Cutty was so calm about it? That Airey - had a pet rock?

Well . . . then. It almost made Cosgrach ask what he could do about it, but he held himself back. He wasn't going to look for a rock.

"Tell me true, which girl did you write this song for? I won't tell Airey, promise."

"Professor Moxley. I mean, oh my gehrd...OH. My. Gerrrrrhd!" Cutty's fist reached up and was bitten by his incisors lightly whilst he leaned against the wood work. Was he serious? Probably. The boy had always had unconventional taste. "Don't tell her!" He said looking up in a panic. "Yer not goin' ter tell her, are yew?"

. . . oh Merlin . . .

Cutty was on his best day today, wasn't he? Cosgrach roared in laughter and it took him some time to calm down. That... Moxley... Good GRACIOUS! Cosgrach LOOOOVED Cutty's sense of humour.

"No, no," he breathed, "your secret is safe with me." Wheeeeeeeeeeeze.

"You should share this ode with her. Definitely. She'll love it, I'm sure."

"I should probably go and see her. She lent me a James Bond film and I've watched it plenty of times." His expression gradually faded, though as the faces of those stricken with attention disorders often is whenever they switch from one thought to another. He remembered something. "Before I forgot. I brought you something." The senior snake boy reached into his pocket and pulled out an iridescent phial the colour of heather and shook it a bit whilst holding it up. "Freshly squeezed from Greenhouse number five. Flesh-eating fairy orchid resin." He said handing over the phial of somewhat rare potion ingredient. "Professor Bentley taught us how to extract it and there's one growin' in the greenhouses that I tend to sometimes. It's kind of my thank yew fer bein' so awesome."

Oh, they even exchanged movies? Pure inspiration, Cutty was. Cosgrach couldn't help but chuckle again, though his attention was diverted too. Cutty had brought him SOMETHING, and probably the whole world knew by now that Cosgrach enjoyed gifts probably more than compliments.

. . . nooooooooooo kidding!

His eyes were solely on it for a while and he only looked back at Cutty when he was done talking.

"For being awesome?" he asked with a frown of confusion that was soon replaced with a smile, "thank you. This is the best present." Honestly. It was. "It wasn't even necessary..." Though. no force could seperate him from this vial now. He smiled at the boy with gratitude and he reached for it.
