Hecate sat in her chair behind the desk, trying to order her papers. Mephisto, her kneazle, was below rubbing himself on her ankles and purring loudly. "Mephisto stop, or I'll turn you into a mouse..." she said in a sing song voice, but the cat spat and kept rubbing himself on her.

She finally sighed, and unlocked the door to the classroom... now the kids would come, and maybe they'd scare Mephisto off.

ooc: This class will stay open until November15th. Also thanks to Nixy! and AuroraQuinn for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me, and to Anna Banana for making it into a pretty graphic!

West was on his way in pretty much the moment the door was unlocked. Potions. He was in a potions sort of MOOD. There was something comforting about it, whether they got to learn new potions or just practice old ones, when you could follow the instructions and make things happen and just sort of lose yourself in the process.

He took his usual spot. "Hello Professor Lafay." He greeted politely. Hopefully they'd start soon.

Alexa walked into the lesson with the idea that this would be another viewer's choice class. Naturally she was perfectly okay with this. There were a couple more potions she wanted to try out and if possible she wanted more of that scintallation solution. Which reminded her, she needed to take another trip down to the Potion's Lab. She needed a whole cauldron full that she could send home before the Professor told her she couldn't keep it all again.

Lex walked into the room. The Professor...was getting papers together...? Good Merlin, someone tell her this wouldn't turn into another one of those theory classes. It was perfectly okay in DADA but outside of that her attention span was saying no.

"Good day Professor. Are you taking early requests? I already have an idea of what we could get brewed today. I'm thinking it doesn't necessarily have to be bright but definitely epic. I even gave it some deep thought." And a solemn nod. Who said the Fourth Year wasn't prepared for class? She was WELL prepared and in fact had written out a list in case the woman was interested.

Lex dropped her bag at her seat then walked to the Professor's desk with the well drafted list on parchment. "I was thinking we start with this one here," she said pointing to the third item, "but you know, any of these right here work too." gesturing to the bottom of the list and giving a WIDE grin. SO ready for this lesson.

Ascanius was really tired and thankfully not in the mood to compliment Lafay when he walked in the room. 'Cause, y'know, she really hated all that stuff and was not the type of Professor to be a good sport about it.

So he just walked in the room and suppressed a yawn, "Hello ma'am." Now time for his seat.

Also...a kitty. He really liked cats.

Nigel was in a good mood. For obvious reasons. Which meant that he was in the mood for Potions and some potion making. He was not going to ask what was going on with whatever Mephisto was or who.

Nope.

Just going to say hello and walked over to a seat. Yeah. "Hello Professor Lafay" Though it did seem like he got here early. So probably would have to wait till class starts

Ew. Kneazle's. Caleb was not quite a fan. And he knew that Beans wouldn't be either, so he was sure to keep the little mouse right there in his pocket where he couldn't become dinner for his gran's cat thing. "Hello Professor," he said with a smile as he took his seat.

Alright, ready to goooo.

Ella hadn't taken Lafay for a pet person.

The blonde eyed the kneazle curiously for a moment or two and stifled the urge to rescue it for fear their professor might ask them to harvest part for whatever potion they'd be making today. O__o She wasn't going to do that was she? ... ... No, of course not.

Ahem.

"Hello, Professor." Polite smile was given too before Ella headed to a seat in the middle of the room and got settled. Then eyes were back on the kneazle.

Yay for Potions! Since he had successfully brewed his first Potion in the previous class, Adi was very much looking to the second class. "Hello, good day, Professor!'' he greeted. Oh! Was that a kneazle? How cool! Adi wanted to pet it but somehow figured Professor Lafay wouldn't want that.

So, instead Adi skipped off to find himself a seat. He could not wait to find out what they would be brewing today!

Potions!

... Which it turned out that he was a little early for. Just a little.

Alec shrugged before continuing his steady pace down the corridor towards the open door of the Potions classroom. There was no way he wanted to be late to this lesson but he also wasn't planning on getting there early enough to be the only person there, aside from Lafay. The idea alone just screamed the word 'awkward' at him. So... he was arriving now. This was good timing, according to the boy.

Readjusting his grip on his bag, the Hufflepuff headed into the classroom just in time to see... a kneazle. A kneazle that seemed to really like Lafay. ... Should he ask or...? Probably not. "Hello Professor!" he said, shooting a small smile in her direction. He gave the kneazle a nod and a smile too before heading over towards an empty seat.

After taking out his things, Alec let his bag drop to the floor before turning his attention back towards the front again and, more specifically, the kneazle. This... just made him miss his puppy even more.

Minerva headed towards the dungeon. As much as Lafay terrified her, she figured nothing strange would happen in this classroom and if it did.. hah.. good luck becoming a potion. She would never let those pranking students show up late or send spells at others while she was teaching. Now she would actually like to see that. Maybe it would be fun to see one of them enter late.. She had to hold a chuckle at the thought.

Walking a little happier into class she smiled at the professor, "Hello Professor, how are you?" Yes that was probably the most she had said to the woman in a year, but she was feeling a bit better being in her with all the weird things going on. Moving to her work station she kept an eye out like she had been doing ever since the episode. A small smirk at the thought of Lafay even setting one of the pranksters on fire made her feel better. Now to get ready for class.

It was the second lesson for Potions. This was one of the few classes that Hannah actually enjoyed. Lafay being her head of house made it just a little bit better as well. As soon as Hannah entered the classroom she noticed that she was one of the first few to enter. This was definitely unusual for her especially this term.

She spotted the professor and noticed something fluffy around the women's ankle. "Hello Professor Lafay." she said almost cheerfully, almost. She found her a seat and didn't touch anything... just like her head of house liked. She had no idea why she was in a somewhat pleasant mood today.

Alright time for another potions lesson. He was quite excited for this. He wondered what the professor had in store. Their first lesson they had to make their own potions from scratch. As he entered the classroom, he noticed his fellow classmates already beat him here. Maybe he needed to walk faster or stop spending so much time eating in the great hall? Yeah that might be it.

When he looked at the front of the room, he noticed the Professor had her cat. It looked vicious and he didn't wanna approach it. "Hello Professor." he said giving her a respectful nod. Then he found his seat near the middle of the room. He took out his notebook and started to do harmless doodles.

Wade had made his way to the dungeons where another Potions class was beginning. He believed that when around Lafay he wouldn't have anything to worry about. She had a good eye and ear, so any funny business would stop before it began, heh.

Entering in, he could hear purring, which got his attention as he could see the kneazle around her. He remembered his manners though, "Hello Professor, everything alright?" Then back to the kneazle cat. "What a lovely kneazle... would it be okay if it stays by me?" Wade was sure the cuteness of it would distract her teaching, so why not offer to keep a good watch. He loved a lot of creatures, after all. Waiting for her response before making his way to a seat near Min. He wondered what was going to happen today.

And it was Potions time again. Which didn't bother Sky at all. She knew that as long as you kept your head down, did what you were suppose to and didn't blow anything up, you would be fine in this class. With that thought in mind, she entered the Potions classroom with a "Hello, professor," and found a seat towards the center of the room.

Oh hey, a kneazle.

Mo never had any qualms about Potions class, in spite of the fact that they used animal parts in the Potions. He'd even helped to harvest those parts before, and he didn't regret that decision. But with his recent bad luck streak in Transfig, he was cautious about entering.

And there was a kneazle. Mo took a seat, eyeing the cat-creature closely. "Good day, Professor. We're not experimenting on the cat, are we?" Please please please say no.

Was Potions the best class because it was the fastest one to get to? Quite possibly, yes. It didn't have a Professor Facial Hair, though. So Cat was going to have to rank it as number two on the list of favorites, still very close. "Hello, Professor Lafay." She smiled brightly at the woman and kneazle. Cat took up a spot next to Mo, though her eyes were trained on the kitty and she didn't look at him.

C'mere, kitty, kitty, kitty. Come to Caterinaaaaaa.

There had been a brief moment of consideration toward studying for everything that she had coming, some things much more soon than others, but at the last minute, Kendall had decided that skiving off from Potions probably wasn’t a good idea. Even if it was for studying for the tournament and NEWTs. She’d taken a moment to slide her Valentine’s Day present from Patrick onto a necklace, though, so no icky potions stuff would get spilled on it, and then headed down the many flights of stairs toward the dungeons and the Potions classroom. If anything, she wasn’t planning on trying to get attention, and she even quickly twisted her hair back into a knot on her head just so there was less available in case Professor Lafay got fire-happy or anything. Considering other lessons of late, it was possible.

She’d done a double take as she’d stepped inside the classroom, however. The sound of purring had made her wonder if Accio had followed her, but soon enough she’d discovered it was, presumably, the professor’s pet instead of her own tabby cat. Okay, she thought, continuing inside to take a seat at her normal spot and sending the professor a smile. “Hello Professor Lafay,” she said, hazel eyes flickering back toward the feline as she wondered if there w as a reason it was there. Hopefully not. She didn’t think that it was possible for even Professor Lafay to want to do harm to her pets.

Because of the pleasant experience she'd had during her first Potions lesson, Vesper decided to attend the second one.

Upon entering the lab, she glanced around, getting an eyeful of who'd already shown up. This was important considering the certain people she'd been purposely avoiding and/or blatantly ignoring for the past week. Quickly spying West (because he was hard to miss), Ves didn't think twice about trekking across the way to settle herself beside him.

Hello, West.

Also...the professor was present. Ves hadn't missed that...or her kneazle roaming the area. "Hello, Professor." Small smile present.

Blair had a sinking feeling in her stomach as she made her way through the dungeons. Potions was not her best subject, Blair felt it was too much like cooking and to be honest, she couldn't think of anything worse. It wasn't that she did not enjoy the class, more the fact she did not enjoy not being brilliant at something.

As Blair walked into the classroom she put on her best smile and said, "Hello Professor Lafay." She paused for a moment before making her way towards the back of the room and took a seat.

Ew, a cat.

Theo made a face at the creature and took a space in the middle of the classroom. Not a usual seat that he took since he hated having people surrounding him like this, but he was not sitting at the front and Professor Lafay didn't seem to like him sitting near the back last lesson. Compromise, see? He slumped onto his seat with a quiet huff.

Oh. "Good day, Professor Lafay." Good day? What was he saying GOOD DAY for?

Theo rubbed his sleepy eyes then continued to watch the cat. Creepy things.

Benjamin fiddled with his matted hair as he entered the potions classroom, glad to be finally rid of whatever had made him ill these last few days. He'd been gutted to have missed the last quidditch match, especially after how awesome the first one had felt. Spying his Captain as he surveyed the room, Benjy gave an apologetic smile to Mo, before heading to a seat near-ish the middle.

Middle-middle. Not too keen, not with the trouble makers.

"Good day, Professor Lafay." Yes, he could do manners too. Not worth the wrath of not having them, in potions.

It would be an inappropriate time to squish Vesper yeah? West didn't think Lafay would much appreciate it, so he just gave her a quick smile and sent mental squishes her way. He was glad enough to have her sitting with him, and hoped they'd get to do the sort of potion where working together was a thing. That'd be cool.

He stayed quiet though, and waited for class to start.

Oh hey, Potions. It was sort of obvious that Kat liked Potions and that she'd never miss a class. It didn't take a lot of time getting to the potions classroom because it was in the dungeons, and her common room was there too. It took only about five to ten minutes to get there from the Slytherin Dungeons so the Head Girl didn't really think she'd ever be late for this class. Plus she had a watch for reasons. T'was quite useful, really.

"Hello Professor Lafay," Kat greeted her head of house and went to sit on her usual seat. At the front of course. It was her favourite class, after all.

Another lesson. Potions this time. As usual when he walked into the room he nodded to the subject Professor. Pets were allowed in this class? Or animals in general? Imagine the havoc animals could raise in a class...

Smirking to himself Mischa walked towards the back of the classroom ignoring everyone. It was time to observe, yes? The best way to assess situations.

Annabeth entered the classroom a bit annoyed. She had woken up that morning with a terrible headache. But that was Potions time and she should love to be there. Not this time. She headed to a seat near to her friend Adi, as always and, before sitting Anna noticed the cat. "Huh? I thought professor Lafay would love if we could stuff the cat... Why a beautiful and perfect woman would have a cat? It doesn't make any sense..." she muttered to herself. And then she faked a smile "Nice to see you again, Professor Lafay! It's a good day to learn Potions!"

She then took an empty seat and waited for the class to start.

Then back to the kneazle cat.

Oh... the Hufflestud...

His hair looked nice less curly... though maybe she missed the curly lock-

"Huh?" What? The kneazle? What kneazle? "Oh... Mephisto?" She said shaking her head clear. "Mephisto goes where he wants... if he follows you, he can stay." The creature however hissed and went under the desk to hide. Hecate shrugged.

"Not today Captain Branxton..." She said and looked up to see him better.

She noticed the foreign face... "Welcome Master Moller..." She said to the boy... she'd be polite to Zitnik's student... for now...

"Alright students. That was Mephisto, my Kneazle... Kneazles are my favorite animals, they are clean, and smart and mostly he stays out of my way... Tell me what your favorite animal is, and why they are." She asked starting her lesson.

Favourite animal? Adi perked up. This was an easy question with an easy answer. He raised his hand in a flash. "Hippogriffs, Professor,'' he said. Oh, yes. Hippogriffs indeed. "They're my favourite because I like the way they think about trusting people before letting them get close to pet or ride or feed them.'' Not everyone can be trusted...like shifty foreign students. "The way they bow after sizing up the person is just brilliant on their part.''

All animals were brilliant in their own way, in Adi's reasoning. But Hippogriffs were brilliant and cool! Perfect combination.

That was why she had her kneazle in the class room. Interesting. Wonder were all this will lead to. Nigel never really thought about this question. All that came to his mind were the most dangerous creatures But if asked would probably just say nundu because it is awesome. Of Course. Nigel raised his hand and answered.

"Nundu because it is the most dangerous creature alive"

You don't mess with a Nundu.

Well, this was different.

But anyway..... "Cats, because they're also clean and tend to stay out of the way. But they also tend to be much cuter......." And Sky was curious to see where Professor Lafay was going with this.

Dora had taken a seat beside Theo since he wasn't sitting up front, and was focused on the kneazle in the front, gaze surprisingly not showing her disdain for them when Lafay posed the first question of the lesson.

And she usually didn't respond to them, but since this one seemed more out of the blue, and personal yet innocent, therefore lacking of repetition, she gave a response. A short one. "Sphinx. I love puzzles and riddles." What was this lesson going to be about, hmm?

Nice kneazle.. Wade simply smiled, shrugging when Mephisito only hissed his way. Oh well. Probably wasn't use to him yet. That was okay. The kitty had his own free will to be wherever he wanted to be. He'll just have to accept the few glances admiring it. Heh.

So after sitting, Wade blinked as they were asked about their favorite animal. That was an easy question for him. Given his stuffed animal, Henry the Hippogriff and all those books he had been reading them since forever, practically. See, even the first year Adi knew how awesome they were. Raising his hand, "Hippogriffs are my favorite as well. Other than the respect they demand, they can be very sweet and loving, yet strong protectors and are not one to mess with when provoked."

You know that feeling you got when you were ignored? She was getting that right now. It was evident her list wouldn't be acknowledged so the Gryffindor trekked back to her table and flopped in her seat. It was only then that she realized the kneazle. Ohey, when'd he get there?

And they were discussing animals. A prevailing theme this term it would seem, only this time she was kinda worried. See, unlike Transfig, potions actually USED animal parts. It wasn't the same as casting on them, you know?

For now nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Alexa raised her hand to give a response. "My favourite's are kneazles too Professor. The one I have is super smart, I can train him to sneak into my neighbours house and plant shrunken heads. Never been caught once. How many other animals can you train to do that? Plus kneazles are super loyal and have a good sense of direction." That was important for a person like her.

She had a habit of...er....not looking where she was going....or even caring to look where she was going.

A favourite animal. Kat... didn't have a favourite one, apparently. She had pets like an owl and a toad, but she didn't really have a preferred one in particular. It didn't mean that she liked all of them. Merlin, some of them were intolerable and Kat wouldn't survive a minute in their presence. Maybe. That really depends.

So she'd just stick with a sort of vague answer. Kat raised her hand. "I don't exactly have a favourite animal, Professor, but I'll be fine with any animal that isn't boring." Who likes boring animals, anyway? Kat has never seen anyone wanting to keep a flobberworm as a pet, mind you. All it did was eat lettuce and produce some mucus thing which they use as a thickening agent in potions.

But yeah, that was her answer.

Uhhh... Theo hated animals.

He avoided the question at first, mainly because he was distracted by Dora who was sat beside him. Theo smiled at her once... and twice, and then looked back at Professor Lafay. An animal he liked... right. Dragons. The ones he had seen with Dora. They were cool, not that he wanted to touch one of course, but still cool.

Theo raised his hand and simply said, "Dragons."

The question...did make her slightly apprehensive about the lesson. Merlin knew what Lafay had in mind. But Blue did consider her answer anyway. Once upon a time it would've been toads...then kneazles...then toads again. Now she didn't really know. Except that it wasn't dragons, for definite. So she didn't say anything. And doodled instead.

Favourite animal?

Benjy frowned a little. He didn't have a favourite as such. His favourite animal as a kid brought back painful memories, and it wasn't something he was about to give a reason for in front of the whole class. Seven years, and still he remembered that evening more vividly than any other...

He fiddled with his hair quietly, fingers trying to unknot some of the overly matted dredlocks that had resulted from a winter of Quidditch training in the wind of rain. He should at least try and come up with some answer, if only to cover his reluctance to revisit his childhood favourite. He thought about his Care of Magical Creatures textbook, trying think of something that, if not his favourite, at least was more interesting. Intriguing. Aroused his curiosity.

And then he had it.

"I like the phoenix, Professor," Benjamin said, raising his hand. "There's something about their cycle of life, death and rebirth that's fascinating."

For a moment after Professor Lafay started the class, Jake just looked around at his classmates. He didn't expect the Potions professor to care about her student's favorite animals... but apparently she did. Hm. The only problem was that Jake didn't really have a favorite.

"I like owls, I guess," He said after raising his hand. "They're really smart, and sort of interesting."

Oh they were going to talk about animals? The boy grinned a little as he looked over at Lafay's kneazle. His Dad would have loved to take part in this discussion! He could almost see it now; the man would talk animatedly about his favourite animals and the best way to look after certain animals.

... Yeah... it was a good thing that the man wasn't here.

Favourite animal though... Alec sat there, his brows furrowed and his eyes on the desk. He had an answer for it, sure, but his reasoning behind it? He wasn't sure what to say. Were they allowed to mention an animal that wasn't magical? The animal he had in mind did have a magical counterpart but... he'd never actually had one of those. Maybe he could get one too...

... Question. Right. "Erm... I really like puppies," he said, looking up at the Potions Mistress, his hand in the air, "Or just... dogs in general. They're really loyal and usually really happy and if I'm upset, my puppy just... knows. I'd come home and he'd come bounding towards the door as if he's missed me. Plus, you can get in some exercise when you take them out for a walk. ... And... yeah, dogs are my favourite."

Stop talking? Brilliant idea.

He also wanted to see his puppy again. When was it time to go home?

Well Caleb wasn't expecting THAT to be the first question, but he had to think about it. He liked a lot of animals, but he knew that he had to just pick one. After much thought, he raised his hand.

"I think my favorite animals are dogs. Any type of dogs. They're loyal and even though they can't communicate with you all that much, they KNOW that you are there for them and you love them and they'll go above and beyond to please you," he said. Favorite animal and why? Claudette wasn't completely sure she had a favorite animal.. she wasn't exactly what one would call an animal lover though she supposed they weren't all too bad. She let her mind wander for a moment, somehow arriving to the stuffed toy on her bed, then she raised her hand.

"I guess I could say my favorite is a unicorn." Why? She had several reasons. "They are beautiful.. plus they play hard to get and are quite selective." For some reason she admired that quality.. something like not settling for just anything. Funny how that stuffed unicorn toy made her think of all that too..

Favourite animal? Blair liked many animals but what was her favourite? She really liked fish but others would probably think that a boring animal. To Blair, fish were incredibly interesting. Sometimes she wished she was a fish, just swimming around in her tank with not a care in the world. She decided to go with her other favourite animal.

"My favourite animals are elephants, Professor. They are said to be among some of the most intelligent animals. I just think they are incredibly interesting." She said in reply to the question.

Minerva sat not really paying attention as the other students made there way in. She glanced up hearing a familiar and lately more comforting voice. Giving a small smile as one of her best friends sat down beside her she gave him a nod. Watching others walk in she gave Claudette a smile and then glared at a certain foreigner who walked in. Now she knew where her eyes needed to glance during class.

Looking back to the front as Lafay started she tilted her head to think about the question. Did she have to pick just one, really. She loved all animals, how could you pick, but she knew if she had to which she would. "Professor if I have to pick one it would have to be owls. I love them. They are so cute, and all so different, and there so interesting, because each breed is so different in some ways, but same in others." It was true she had a little obsession for those cute feathery birds.

That was true for obvious reasons. She knew that she couldn't exactly have one of those for a pet, but it didn't change how she felt about them.

Kitty kitty kiiiitttyyyyyy....

That kneazle was not going to saunter in her direction. Alright, fine. She'd just go right to her dorm after class and snuggle with Sharky for a while. Sharky liked her. Cat had been absorbed in watching the kneazle and almost missed the question entirely. People were naming animals... well, creatures. "My favorite is a shark, Professor. More specifically Great Whites." Why? "Because they're amazing and dangerous and well away from causing me any bodily harm."

Cool and threatening but not a danger to her. Pretty sweet.

Animals?

Ella sat up a little straighter and her smile was immediate. Lots of people knew what she was going to say, yeah? It was no secret what animal she loved more than any other. It had been that way since she was a kid and she'd never changed her mind about them which was funny seeing how her mind changed about other things quite frequently.

The blonde listened to the other answers curiously, giving Alec an especially wide smile when it was his turn. She knew how he felt about dogs. Just like he knew how he felt about elephants. Speaking of-

"My favorite animal is the elephant. They are fascinating creatures and they have such strong social ties. The female elephants take care of the calves and make sure they're protected and looked after until they are adults. The males sometimes leave the herds to be alone but the females tend to stick together. They also show their emotions and when a member of the herd passes away, they've even been known to grieve for a long period of time." Nodnodnod. She was SO rambling. Ella gave an embarrassed smile and quickly ended her rant. "Anyway, I really like them." In case that wasn't obvious.

Forrest was distracted with Ella's 'elephant' answer and thought answering the same but it'd be a lie. He knew nothing about them. What fascinated him truly was...

Favorite animal? Tora didn't care much either way for animals, they usually were a bunch of work that she always forgot to do. Hence the reason why she had an owl instead of a pet that required more maintenance. Anyway back to the question for the class at hand. What was her favorite animal? She skipped past the mundane household pets and moved onto more exotic creatures. Things like... polar bears! And dragons! And... arctic foxes! Tora liked things that lived in the north a lot. They seemed to be freer and clever. After all, they had to be able to survive in harsh climates, right?

"I like arctic animals,"She said raising her hand. And her reason? "Well, they can do all sorts of creative, witty stuff to adapt to their environment. And they are so... wild," Tora smiled and a glint came into her eye. Adventure and curiosity went hand in hand.

"Professor my favorite animal is a penguin because when they are babies they are adorable puff balls but after they have grown up, they are interesting creatures because they basically defend for themselves or the baby they have to take care of." They'd better not be harming any animals or even doing anything to possibly harm them. Lily didn't want any animals harmed by any potions. But she digressed in her thoughts. So raising her hand, the sixth year answered. "Crups, professor. Because I've always like loyal and friendly dogs and crups are just even better." That was sufficient, right? Alexa hadn't wasted any time in leaving the room to get the creature sample she would need. There was limited time to get it done but she'd found herself over by the stables and managed to cut a lock (http://www.snitchseeker.com/care-of-magical-creatures/winged-horse-stables-94811/) from the manee of one of the Abraxans. It didn't seem to mind the cutting....that much....it was more of the...er....suddenly casting that had been the problem but she made it out unharmed and without damaging the creature and it's hair would grow back. It always did.

Looking around she realized she was the first one back. Oh? She could have taken longer then! Made a trip to the kitchen or something before rushing back here.

Lex placed the Abraxan hair on her table and plopped down in her seat. It was too late to go back outside now. She have to wait for everyone to get back here and the class to resume whatever it was they were doing.

While she waited, her mind trailed back to the Abraxan. She would have to bring it an apology cookie later. It probably wanted to keep all it's hair the way it was. Nothing to be done about that now!

She never was able to answer that question right away. She couldn't decide on an answer. She of course adored her cats. But also loved hippogriffs and wished to ride one since owning one wasn't an option at the time being. Maybe when she got older. The snake remained silent hearing others answers. The head boy liked hippogriffs too! The blond nodded in approval. Cool head boy they got there.

She was surprised by others choices though but let it pass. Each to their own, yeah? Her attention was back on the professor who was telling them something really interesting. She had started to wonder what did creatures have to do with potions class but now it all made sense. The idea was both interesting and awkward. Depending on the creature's choice.

Twirling a strand of hair around her finger in concentration, the snake tried to think of what creature she wanted to try the sensation of having their skin. Of course, she could always go for Lando or Gemini. Derry and Elody were nice enough to let her have a tiny bit of hair. But the fifth-year wanted something more interesting. An idea formed in her head and she immediately rose from her seat and headed out.

...

Twenty minutes later she walked in again her right hand balled in a fist with the Puffskein fur (http://www.snitchseeker.com/11467071-post2.html) in it. She walked over to her seat and slid into it. She looked around and saw that Lex had returned. Cassia wondered what the lioness picked. Something very interesting she bet.

Cassia glanced at the fur in her hand wondering if this was a good idea. She hoped yes. It'd be fun to have soft fur. But that made her think of something so she raised her hand to as a question, "Professor, the potion will only cause our skin to change, right? We won't transfer into the creatures shape or anything?" Mind you she didn't want to be a round giant fur ball.

'Best subject' certainly and often didn't mean 'favourite', and this was the case with the 17-year-old French girl. She was AMAZING at potions, but it wasn't her favourite. Which caused her to arrive at the class late, really. She knew it was still obligatory, kind of, but it wasn't like Madame Enzo would make her repeat a class if she was late to some of them. It was such a pleasure to see Hogwarts professors go red with rage and still say nothing when she was late, and she walked inside the potions classroom late as well.

"I'm sorry," she muttered and looked so. But if the professor could read minds, she would be able to see the French didn't mean it at all. Why should she respect the woman, really? She was simply lucky to have arrived at the time while the woman was giving instructions, and once she got it, she slipped out of the classroom once again. At least it was easy to find this classroom. Being late was fun, but sometimes she was really late.

...

She was late to show up for the class, but only third in returning with a piece of a creature (http://www.snitchseeker.com/11467106-post3.html), apparently. Alec didn't know exactly how long he had taken to gather the hair (http://www.snitchseeker.com/11467138-post5.html) from the crup but... he had a feeling that it wasn't his quickest material-finding mission. He had been in close vicinity to... well... a crup! He hadn't been planning on leaving without patting the creature. And they looked very similar to Jack Russell Terriers, which reminded him of a certain blonde leprechaun. Speaking of, was Tag here? Was he planning on getting hair from a crup too?

The boy headed back into the classroom just in time to hear Cassia... ask a question. Oh! Yeah... that was a good question, actually. He looked over at the Slytherin and then at the Potions Mistress as he made his way towards his seat. Would they be turning into the shape of the creatures? Or would they just... what was it that Lafay had said? Alter the cells of the skin to match that of the creature's?

... This was going to be an interesting class.

Wow. we are all gonna be turning into animals as ling as all goes well. Oh no, what if it doesn't, eek!!! Can't think about that, I gotta go get my clipping of whatever and get back here, this is gonna be such fun.

With that Oichi headed for the door, "See ya in an hour professor", she then left and headed for the grounds.

Blair returned to the classroom to notice a few of her fellow students were already back. She took her seat and placed the vibrant orange feathers (http://www.snitchseeker.com/care-of-magical-creatures/care-of-magical-creatures-nursery-94810/#post11467167) on the desk in front of her. She was still unsure of exactly what animal they had come from, perhaps the Professor would be able to enlighten her.

Now just to wait for the others to return. Blair was quite excited to see what today's lesson would entail.

Oichi with the hairs of an abraxan in tow headed back to the dungeons and soon walked back into the potions classroom. She felt so excited but also a bit nervous to start the potion that will if done correctly turn her into an abraxan for a whole hour.

Adi returned soon with his owl feathers (http://www.snitchseeker.com/11467064-post47.html) which he got from an owl in the Owlery. He was unsure if Hogwarts currently had any Hippogriffs and though he would have loved one of their feathers, he decided against wasting time now to find out. Later he'd do that. But he didn't mind settling for the next best creature!

The Hufflepuff returned to his seat to wait for further instructions.

Had it been thirty minutes yet!? Or had it been forty five!? Fern didn't know how long it had taken her to get the sample (http://www.snitchseeker.com/hufflepuff-common-room/hufflepuff-girls-dormitory-94693/#post11467290) but thought it hadn't been that long.

It couldn't have been.

Hot pink nail file in hand, the 11-year-old hopped back onto her stool, and blew the strands of dull brown hair that had escaped from her ponytail out of her face. She needed more hair clips. Hot pink hair clips. With sparkles. Or maybe little bows.

No. No bows. But sparkles. Yes, they would have to have lots of sparkles.

Sophie made a face. Why would she want to alter her cells?! Thinking about this, she came to the conclusion that taking on part of an animal's appearance could benefit her in different situations.

Satisfied with that thought, she left the classroom and headed to the owlery, where she plucked a feather (http://www.snitchseeker.com/owlery/visit-with-an-owl-93457/index2.html#post11467431) from an unsuspecting owl.

Some time later, she came back into the classroom, feather in hand.

Anya dropped Jake's hand right outside the classroom. Field trip over. Which, was sad. She liked not being in class. And she really liked holding Jake's hand.

She slipped back into her seat and carefully laid the feather (http://www.snitchseeker.com/owlery/visit-with-an-owl-93457/index2.html#post11467475) on her desk. And then, she spent the remainder of the time wondering why they came back so quickly. They had at least 5 minutes left. They could have snogged or something.

Oh well. She'd just have to settle for smiling in his general direction.

Sad sad sad sad about no sharks, but happy happy happy about kneazle fur and holding hands with her boyfriend, which she had been doing up until they returned back to the classroom. There was no way she was getting a detention from her Head of House, no way.

Content with her kneazle fur (http://www.snitchseeker.com/11467289-post10.html), she waited to see what they were meant to do NEXT.

Hopefully, they weren't going to be spending the rest of the class harvesting their own ingredients. She didn't really feel like running back forth all over the castle today.

Anyway, next step please.

Hecate had written on the board behind her the recipe for the potion while children were out gathering their animal part.

Water
20 blades of Fluxweed
Pinch of crushed Sneezewart seeds
Sliced Knottgrass bunch
3 tablespoons of Cinnamon
Animal part of choice

Once everyone was in she announced. "You should all have your animal fur, feather or scale." And she reached down with her wand cutting a tuft of Mephisto's hair. "Alright. Fill your cauldron half way with water and start your flame." She said lighting her own cauldron, which she had already filled.

They had not been instructed to gather the other ingredients, so Mo started by scrubbing out his cauldron with a Scourgify before he filled it with water. It was a clean cauldron already, but since Mo had seen Lafay throw out people's potions for less, he wasn't taking any chances.

This potion required far less ingredients than the last one she'd brewed. This looked like it wouldn't take nearly as long...but again...she'd only be able to keep ONE vial, wouldn't she? Who's originally bright idea was it? Did it always happen like that even before Professor Lafay taught here? Lex would ask but laaater after she'd gotten it done.

"Scourgify!" Merlin knows what might have crawled into her cauldron and made a mess of it while she was out nearly getting mauled by an abraxan. A story to tell her children one day. Braving the large horse, of course she'd leave out the running part. That wasn't nearly as brave.

"Aguamenti!" Doo dee doo dee doo. Was that half? Yup, looked like it. "Finite!"

The next thing was...? Alexa looked around the room and spotted a few people starting their fires. Right. That. Lex did the same then waited on further instructions.

Choose one? Okay sure. Kat shrugged. Not a problem and since they'll be getting some part of the animal, she might as well pick an animal that wasn't impossible to find. Whatever. THAT would be easy, because Kat now knew what animal to choose. Her owl. Chase, you know? Once they were allowed to leave, Kat stood up and made her way to the Owlery. YEP, she was going to face that owl of hers... without treats, apparently. We'll see how that turns out.

...

Kat arrived with her owl's feather (http://www.snitchseeker.com/11467722-post52.html). It wasn't so bad. At least Chase didn't leave a mark on her. No bites or wounds or blood. It was a good sign. When she went back to her seat, Kat took out a parchment and her ink well and quill. She copied the ingredients on the board. The Head Girl was about to leave her work station to get the other ingredients, but Lafay didn't say so. How odd. She'd just follow what Lafay said, to be safe.

"Scourgify," Kat said and cleaned her cauldron. Oh so clean, yes. No dusts or bits or stuff that was supposed to mess her potion up. "Aguamenti." Once the cauldron was filled halfway, Kat stopped the flow of water with a "Finite" and lit the fire.

Maika filled her cauldron, looking at the cat fur that she had picked and placed in a glass tube. The potion worried her slightly. She lit the fire under the cauldron then raised her hand. Oh... they were going to get started? AWESOME.

Alec glanced over at the ingredients quickly before taking a note of them. Because having note forms of these things was a lot easier. Yeah. And speaking of ingredients, they... weren't going to go and collect them? He looked around at the other students. ... Oh. Maybe... they'd get them later, then?

Shrug.

Turning his attention back towards his cauldron, the boy whipped out his wand and pointed it in there. "Scourgify!" And a quick visual check told him that... well... it probably was clean, right? That spell had never failed him before. "Aguamenti!" Once the cauldron was full about halfway up, a simple "Finite!" stopped the flow of water. There. And lastly... fire. Which was lit with a flick of his wand.

He turned his attention back towards his parchment just in time to hear someone asking about fluxweed and informing Lafay about being allergic. ... Could he...? No. No the homework was long over and there was probably no way that a small girl would take an Antillergen Potion from him, who was much older and probably scarier.

... Okay. Maybe not scary. But older. Yeah.

Caleb knew that the first thing he had to do before starting his potion was clean it. He didn't want to get any Befuddlement Draught in his new potion! He picked up his wand and pointed it at his cauldron. "Scourgify!" he exclaimed. He ran a finger on the inside of the cauldron and smiled. Perfectly clean!

"Aguamenti," he said, filling his cauldron with water. There, all ready to go!

After placing the cotton swab on her table carefully so the butterfly's yellow scales (http://www.snitchseeker.com/11467102-post50.html) wouldn't be wasted, Annabeth took her notebook and copied the instructions.

Comantis Bestiarius Potion
INgredients:
Water
20 blades of Fluxweed
Pinch of crushed Sneezewart seeds
Sliced Knottgrass bunch
3 tablespoons of Cinnamon
Animal part of choice

Instructions: Fill up to half of the cauldron with water and than heat it.

After reading what she had barely finished copying, Anna concluded that it would be a laborious process and prone to errors: too much things to slice and to crush and to measure and her head was aching to madness, with a vein pulsating on her temple. She snorted. This day would not be included on her preferred-day's list. As there was nothing to do but work, she pointed her wand to the cauldron:

"Scourgify! Aguamenti!" She waited for the cauldron to be half full - or, for her understanding, half empty - and she cast the "finite" spell. "Okay, well done. Time to take and prepare the ingredients." She said to herself. Then stared at the cauldron, a mid way to take the Fluxweed, pointed her wand to it and said "Incendio!" The flames began heating the water and then she sat and began to turn the Fluxweed into a thin blades using her inseparable sharpen pocketknife, while waiting for the next instructions.

Nail file still in one hand, Fern pulled her wand from its holster with her fee hand and directed it towards her cauldron. "Scorgify! Aguamenti! Finite!"

The cauldron was now half full as ordered, but some of the water had splashed on the work table, so Fern quickly wiped it up with her sleeve and, re-holstering her wand, set to lighting the fire. But it was near impossible with one hand still occupied, and Fern whipped her head around, looking for someplace to put the emery board, before finally sticking it an empty glass vial. Then she turned her attention back to the task at hand and started the fire.

With those two tasks accomplished, the 11-year-old quickly scratched out the instructions on a piece of parchment, and waited for Professor Lafay to give the next set of orders.

Now it seemed like it was time to start. She wrote down the directions and turned to her cauldron. Non verbally cleaning the cauldron before she began. Minerva pointed her wand into it, "Aguamenti!" Sophie glanced up at the board and read the list of ingredients that had apparently been put up while they were out gathering their animal item. The ingredients list wasn't very long. Good...because that probably meant that the brewing process didn't take long at all, meaning this class wouldn't take long at all, meaning Sophie could get back to the common room and rest soon.

Cool, the ingredients were listed on the board. So Wade was able to get to work now after the first set of instructions. Well, first off he needed to put the hippogriff feather down, setting it under one of his books. Now it won't be able to float away by anyone's movements.

Wordlessly he cleaned his cauldron with 'Scourgify' watching as it cleaned itself spotlessly. Next was adding in the water. 'Aguamenti,' Aiming his wand right inside once the suds were gone, until the water filled halfway before ending it.Then to start the flame, he cast a simple 'Incendio' under the cauldron before waiting further instructions.

Kendall had basically ran down half the stairs in order to get back to the dungeons, but she’d slowed down once she’d gotten to the corridor leading to the Potions classroom. Her boots were loud enough when she was just walking; she didn’t need to annoy Professor Lafay by dashing headlong into the classroom. Besides, that could end up disastrous, even with all her ninja skills. She didn’t want to inadvertently crash into a cauldron or anything. Therefore, she’d walked calmly into the classroom and back to her seat, hazel eyes glancing over to see the instructions written on the board. That made things easier, at least, and she’d checked to make sure the tuft of orange fur (http://www.snitchseeker.com/11468028-post73.html) was still in her pocket as the professor had spoken. Everything still seemed like it as going well, so she took her journal out to write down the ingredients and start her notes.

Once that was done, she got her cauldron out and set it on the work station. First step was always making sure it was clean, which worked for potions and chocolate-making. “Scourgify,” she cast, pointing her wand inside the cauldron and covering every inch before she even bothered to check what everyone else was doing. It seemed like they were all doing the same anyway, and she used Aguamenti to fill her cauldron halfway once she had double-checked it to make sure it was spotless. One more spell later, that being a silent fire charm to light the burner, and all that was left was waiting for the next step. She thought it probably was going to have to do with the water boiling, but that was just a guess. She knew better than to assume too much in Potions, no matter how much it was like her chocolate lessons with Patrick.

The door to the Potions classroom unlocked and Destiny walked in quickly. She had been waiting outside for 10 minutes now. She hated to be late for Potions class because she was afraid of breaking rules and Professor Lafay.

"Good morning, Professor Lafay," Destiny greeted.

The kneazle underneath her desk purred softly. Destiny smiled at it. She was ready to start a new day.

Hecate's head spun to look at the latecomer. "Five points from Ravenclaw for tadiness." She said rolling her eyes.

ooc: You should never post that you are late, unless you want a loss in points. Always assume your character has been there since the start even if she hasn't... no one will know the difference. Also, you shouldn't RP for other people's characters. The kneazle is one of my characters and I don't RP it purring... it just isn't good RP ettiquette. Keep that in mind and you'll be fine! :)

If you are allergic to ANYTHING, before you come to my class, go to the nurse and get an all allergy remedy. You WILL be handling everything in this class and I don't have time for your allergy needs." then she added, "Can one of you prefects please assist Miss Dorian, this ONE TIME!"

"Now... if we are ready to move on..." She said, "Please take the 20 blades of Fluxweed, and place them on a wooden board, take your silver knife, and slice them a centimeter apart. Toss them in the water, and stir with your wooden stirrer 6 times counter clockwise." She said demonstrating the procedure.

There was really only one thing Alexa was allergic to but they never seemed to use that in potions so she was perfectly fine. But it was good to know for future reference. Allergy remedy before class. Mhm, she'd remember.

Lex placed her fluxweed on the board, eyes on the Professor the entire time. No wand work? Using a knife? Merlin, she was so accustomed to diffindo, she wasn't sure she could remember the proper use of a knife. Okay not really but it had been ages. What was so special about this potion that made it require muggle means of getting the ingredients prepared. Straaaange.

A centimetre apart. Again she was watching. Had to make a rough guesstimate on account of she didn't actually have anything to do the measuring.

This...looked like a centimetre.....chop. Uh-huh, sure. Chop chop chop.

Into the cauldron they went. Now where did she put that wooden spoo--ah hah! Six counterclockwise stirs taken care of. She was never for the next step!!

Allergies were a no-no in potions. Noted. She sort of assumed that anyway since Lafay didn't seem the type to change a lesson for the sake of someone's health. You had to worry about yourself, be a big girl or boy and all that. Yeah.

Cleaning the wooden board with her wand, Ella then wandered over to get the fluxweed. When she was back, she began spreading the 20 blades so that she could start cutting. Well, that is when she had cleaned her nice. "Scourgify." There. A centimeter apart...okay. Well your thumb was about an inch from knuckle to tip supposedly and based on that, if Ella adjusted a bit, she should be able to estimate the measurement well enough. The blonde began slicing as precisely as possible with this in mind, trying not to be distracted by anything else like the kneazle.

When she had sliced the blades of fluxweed, the blonde added them to the water and then cleaned her wooden stirrer. Cleanliness was extremely important, yeah? When she'd done that, it was on to stirring.

6 times. Counter clockwise.

Allergy remedy was to be taken before class. ... It was a good thing he was't allergic to anything then. Partly because allergic reactions did not look like they were fun to experience and... well... the Healer was a little scary, you know.

... Moving on...

Fluxweed first. Okay. After Scourgifying his wooden board clean, Alec placed twenty blades of Fluxweed onto the board. The silver knife was cleaned using magic, too. You could never be too careful, yeah? Holding his knife up, the boy looked down at the Fluxweed and... frowned a little. A centimetre? Was he allowed to use a ruler to measure or...?

... Probably not.

Guess. He was going to go for that. The Hufflepuff started carefully cutting the Fluxweed into equal, one centimetre width proportions. Or tried to, at least. Once that was done, he held up his board and tossed the cut up Fluxweed into the water. There. Phew.

Stirring was next, yeah? The wooden stirrer got a magical clean too before he started stirring counter-clockwise. One... two... three... four... five... six!

... And notes. Those had to be made too.

Caleb had just been finishing up his fire when chaos ensued. First a Ravenclaw was late, and then someone from Slytherin - the nerve of them! - was complaining of an allergy or something. Goodness. Caleb just wanted to focus on his potion and impress his gran without distractions. Was that too much to ask?

After his fire was blazing under his cauldron, as Lafay had instructed, he took his blades of Fluxweed and began to chop away. It was hard measuring out a centimeter each time, but he knew that taking his time would pay off at the end.

He tossed his finished product into the water and took his spoon, spinning six times counter clockwise. One, two, three, four, five, six. There! Ready for the next step.

Awhoops, Ravenclaw. Cat glanced at Mo out of the corner of her eye as she focused the rest of her attention on filling her cauldron like everyone else. There seemed to be a bit more disruption, but Caterina was keeping her mind set on her business and no one else's. Focus was important for her brain. It needed guidance.

Ready to move on, yes please.

After counting out 20 blades of Fluxweed, Cat set up the board, cleaned it and very carefully started cutting. One centimeter apart, just as she was told, very carefully. She wasn't a clumsy person and she used knives in cooking alllll the time, but still, she was careful not to nick. When she was done, she dropped them all into her cauldron and took up the stirrer, stirring counter clockwise 6 times. BAM. Done.

Anya gathered her 20 blades as instructed. She placed them on her wooden board and then got out her silver knife. Alright. Centimeter cuts. She measured the first slice and then used it as a reference for the rest of them. Once they were all done she tossed them in the water. Then, using her wooden stirrer, went on to stir them. 6 times. And when that was done, she updated her notebook.

Adi wasn't allergic to anything that he knew of but just the same maybe he could get some of that potion and keep it in his bag? Just in case. Alright. The next instructions were given. He cleaned both the board and silver knife, just in case before placing the twenty stalks of fluxweed on the board.

Measuring very carefully, the Hufflepuff began to cut them into the required centimeter parts. When that was done, he placed them into the heating water and stirred with his wooden spoon one, two, three, four, five, six times Counter clockwise.

Maika filled her cauldron, looking at the cat fur that she had picked and placed in a glass tube. The potion worried her slightly. She lit the fire under the cauldron then raised her hand. "Um, Professor? I have a small problem... I'm allergic to Fluxweed..." She blushed a little, embarrassed that while she enjoyed potions, she had issues with a fairly common ingredient. "Can I have someone handle the fluxweed for me?"

"Oh for Merlin's Sakes..." Hecate said shaking her head annoyed. She then addressed the entire class, "I'm going to say this to everyone.

Wade blinked as he heard and then glanced at who needed help. Oh, okay. He remembered the girl from Ancient Runes, which got him raising his hand. "I'll help her out, Professor." He didn't like seeing anyone in distress for long. Luckily for him, he wasn't allergic to anything in the class.

Wade got up from his seat to where she was sitting at, "Hi, I'm Wade." Just so she knew, and he didn't want to come across as brushing her aside helping without acknowledging her. So she was free to give her name or not. Luckily her materials were already out, so taking the twenty blades of fluxweed he set them on the board after cleaning it. Taking the silver knife, he scourgified it before using. Slicing them one centimeter apart before adding it into her cauldron with the water. "There you go," Smiling as she had no more fluxweed left for her to deal with. "I think you're free to stir and take over now." He then cleaned off her board, and knife that he just touched so it wasn't contaminated anymore to her.

---

Now he just had to repeat those steps again for himself. Once he was given the okay to return back to his seat. He scourgified the knife and the materials provided before using. Setting the twenty blades of Fluxweed, he began slicing them one centimeter apart with the silver knife before adding them into the water in his cauldron.

Next was the stirring, using the wooden stirrer he stirred it counter-clockwise. *One*..*Two*..*Three*..*Four*..*Five*..*Six* times before waiting the next set of instructions.

He thought the professor should give the ravenclaw a break. The claw came a little late, not everyone was perfect. Then he heard someone was allergic to the ingredients and he heard the professor snap. He felt it wasn't fair but at least Wade was helping her.

Kace was ready to move on. Kace went to go find 20 blades of fluxweed. Once he gathered them all up, he placed them onto the wooden board. He took his silver knife and only sliced them a centimeter apart. He was cutting...cutting....and even more cutting and then he was done! He smiled and tossed them all into the water. He found his wooden stirrer and placed it into the cauldron and stirred 6 times.

1...2...3...4..5...6.

Once he was done, he waited for the professor to say more directions.

Once Blair had half filled her cauldron with water and lit the flame she moved on to the next set of instructions.

She observed the Professor's demonstration and then got to work herself. Gathering the 20 blades of fluxweed, she placed them on her wooden board. Blair carefully measured them with her fingertip, that looked about a centimetre right? Lifting her knife she began chopping.

Once all the blades were neatly cut, Blair moved on to the next step. Tossing the fluxweed into her cauldron she then picked up her wooden stirrer. She stirred counter clockwise and counted "1..2..3..4..5..6."

Alright, so Professor Lafay said they needed to slice the blades of Fluxweed into pieces of one centimeter. At least her pocketknife blade was made of silver; so, although she had already anticipated the first stage, everything was fine and being done as it was supposed to do. Annabeth gave a sigh of relief. Her headache was worst and it would be terrible having to cut the fluxweed once again. She took her pocketknife and sliced the 20 blades, then tossed them into the cauldron. Quickly, the girl took the wooden stirrer and began to stir it clockwise... One...Two... Three... Four... Five... Six. She took the wooden stirrer off the cauldron and cleaned it with the scourgify spell after putting it on the table. Then she added the first step to her notes.

Hmm, so did that mean she wanted them to go retrieve ingredients? Was the professor feeling okay, because she was forgetting stuff? Mo lit a fire under his cauldron and carefully checked his notes.

Mo did go and retrieve his ingredients, then, trusting that they weren't being asked to cut stuff up without going to get it first. Or something. When he returned to his workstation, Mo set the ingredients in a neat line along the edge and made a point of cleaning off his cutting board too.

"Scourgify." Once it was clean, he spread out the fluxweed across the board and cut each blade into perfectly even centimeter sections. All those sections went into the water, and then Mo stirred the water with the wooden stirrer. Six times, yup.

Hecate's head spun to look at the latecomer. "Five points from Ravenclaw for tadiness." She said rolling her eyes.

BWAH HAHA!

Sophie loved when that happened to somebody else. Especially when said person was in another house.

Times like this, Sophie was glad she wasn't a prefect. She'd hate to have to get up and help somebody. She was way too busy for that...

Sophie collected her fluxweed then placed the ingredients on a wooden board. With her silver knife, she sliced them a centimeter apart. She'd seen her mother do tasks similar to this loads of times. When she was done, she tossed the pieces into the water then began stirring six times counter-clockwise.

Allergies... Nerida looked over at the girl. Hate to be her. Noted, if she was allergic to something go to the healer for a remedy and do not tell Professor Lafay!

Cleaning the wooden board with her wand, Nerida then went to go collect the fluxweed. When she got back to her table, she began spreading the twenty blades so that she could began to cut. Before cutting though she had to clean her knife. "Scourgify!" A centimeter apart... Umm.. She looked around seeing Ella she nodded she would use her knuckle to tip as well. The Ravenclaw began slicing as precisely as she could.

After slicing the blades of fluxweed she added them into the water and the cleaned her wooden stirrer. Cleanliness was way important in potions! Wouldn't want anything to ruin her potion now would she?

Okay now to counter clockwise stir! Six times!

Okay, right, SO.

Tobias totally hadn't been zoning in and out. Nope. Not at all.

...

... so anyway, Tobias tuned in to what Professor Lafay was saying to them, blinking as he did so. His cauldron was all set up with water and a fire lit beneath it, so everything was going to plan. So far.

Fluxweed was retrieved and then Tobias was just sort of stood there, holding his silver knife and staring at the blades of fluxweed. How was he supposed to know what a centimetre was? There wasn't a ruler in his potions kit, was there? Well... if there was, Toby had lost it.

It took a minute, but Tobias soon realised he could just show some initiative. The width of his index finger was just under a centimetre, he reckoned, and that would just have to do. Without thinking much more of it, Tobias leaned closer to his workstation and started meticulously working on cutting up the blades of fluxweed. It was a painstaking task, trying to get them all even, and Tobias even worked up a bit of a sweat. Though that may have just been the heat from the fire beneath his cauldron.

Once the fluxweed was cut up, Tobias dumped all the pieces into his cauldron. He picked up the wooden stirrer in his right hand whilst he took a second to remember which way was anti-clockwise, and absentmindedly wiping any residue fluxweed from his hands and onto his robes. Soon enough, Toby was stirring the cauldron counter clockwise, six times with the wooden stirrer.

Sorted.

Moving onto the next bit of the potion, Ascanius jotted down some of the directions that Lafay said. With the scribbles littered all over the pages, he started to get to work.

He took his pile of twenty blades of Fluxweed and laid them out on his wooden board. Ascanius reached for his silver knife and began to slice each blade a centimetre apart.

Then he collected all of them up in his hands and tossed the pile in the cauldron. And then counter clockwise stirring happened, yeah? Six times.

Tsssssssssssssssk. Tsk.

Good thing Kat wasn't allergic to anything. She best keep an eye on this one, because the Dorian kid was a Slytherin and they were mostly Kat's responsibility. Ugh. As much as she loved being prefect, Head Girl, and being looked up to, she didn't want to feel like everything was on her. She'd take the blame, sure, but it wasn't a nice feeling. The Head Girl had her eyes on the Dorian kid for a while and then directed her attention to the potion. Alright, she'd have to get the ingredients now... yeah?

Kat got the ingredients she needed and then looked up to Professor Lafay. She took the 20 blades of fluxweed, placed them on her wooden board and sliced them a centimeter apart. That was how Lafay said it so Kat followed what her Head of House did. Then she tossed the now sliced blades of fluxweed into her cauldron and stirred it 6 times counter clockwise.

Minerva looked up as Lafay started on her lecture of allergies and her classroom. She was actually starting to wonder if Lafay was in a good mood, because she gave a lecture without flipping a cauldron or making the student do it anyway. Minerva moved in her seat to get up and go help the student and possibly quick before Lafay's patience wore out, but her puff co leader was already on it. How did he get up so quick from next to her with her not noticing. Well since he was getting it Minerva turned back to her own cauldron.

Taking the fluxweed she set it on her board and picked up the sliver knife making sure it was clean before she started cutting. Cut.. cut.. cut. she made sure they were each a centimeter apart before picking them up and placing them in the cauldron. Once the fluxweed was settled into the potion she grabbed her spoon.

Stir.. stir.. stir.. stir.. stir.. ..stir

Min stirred the the mixture 1...2...3..4...5....6.. yes six times counter clockwise. Setting her spoon back down she waited for the next step.

Once everyone was in she announced. "You should all have your animal fur, feather or scale." And she reached down with her wand cutting a tuft of Mephisto's hair. "Alright. Fill your cauldron half way with water and start your flame." She said lighting her own cauldron, which she had already filled.

She knew that she would need to clean her cauldron first even though the professor didn’t say so. It was just one of those things that you just knew to do. Hannah took out her wand and did a quick ”Scourgify” on it. There we go, now she was ready to get cooking! ”Aguamenti!” She filled her cauldron halfway with water. ”Finite” put a stop to the excess water. She started her flame and waited for further instruction.

"Now... if we are ready to move on..." She said, "Please take the 20 blades of Fluxweed, and place them on a wooden board, take your silver knife, and slice them a centimeter apart. She couldn’t speak for anybody else, but she was ready to move on. She grabbed 20 blades of Fluxweed and placed them on her wooden board as instructed. She glanced at the directions and grabbed her silver knife and carefully sliced them a centimeter apart. She knew that while brewing potions not carefully cutting the required ingredients could result in disastrous results. Once she was happy with her cutting, she threw the the fluxweed into the water. She picked up the wooded spoon and stirred six times counter clockwise.

"Take a few Sneezewart seeds and place them in your mortar, then with a clean pestle, crush them into dust... then with gloves, take a pinch of the dust and sprinkle it in. Stay back, there will be a puff of vapor... although it isn't harmful, it will make your hair stand straight up for a day." She said ducking when she sprinkled the powdered Sneezewart.

What? Caleb did NOT want that happening. Granted he didn't care as much about his hair as say, his father had, but he was not about to walk around with his hair standing on end. He took his sneezewart sneeze and dropped them in his mortar, which was nice and clean since he'd never used it before.

He crushed them into dust, and then slipped his gloves on over his hands and took a pinch. Preparing himself, he stood a few steps back so that the cauldron was still at an arms length, and sprinkled it in. POOF! There was the vapor, but he was far enough away that it didn't get him, thank Merlin.

She was lagging behind, but now she seemed to be right on pace. She took a few sneezewart seeds and placed them into her mortar. Now she just needed a clean pestle. She knew better than to just assume that something was clean. "Scourgify!" With her now clean pestle she crushed and crushed the seeds until they were dust. She kind of liked his part. She could let go of her frustrations a little bit like this.

She put on her gloves and too a pinch from the mortar and sprinkled it into her cauldron. She made sure to keep her face and body away from the cauldron because she knew what was coming next. As in on cue a puff of vapor rose from her cauldron. She looked around just to see if anybody was dumb enough to have their faces hovered over their cauldrons... it would serve them right you know!

Forrest came back and was down to see Fern there. She got some hard glares from the boy. Then his eyes fell on Ella and the world looked better for a moment. The Captain got... blushes and looking away. He even hit a stool in the process while he tried to reach his seat with Ella effect--what was happening to him?!, and grabbed his pencil and notebook to write down the ingredients. He jotted down the first step too and pointed his wand at the cauldron.

"Tergeo," he said first and "Scourgify," followed after as his wand drew an S. One could never be sure of the hygiene, right? Right. He then drew a horizontal S and said "Aguamenti!" He had to use the spell twice to fill the half of the cauldron, and said "Incendio," afterwards while his wand drew a tweezers. He stopped to write down the next set of instructions with his tongue poking out of his mouth. Once he was done writing it down, he grabbed his wand, Tergeo and Scourgify'ied the wooden board, took 20 blades of Fluxweed, placed them on the wooden board and took his silver knife out of his bag. He grabbed his wand again and cleaned the knife with Tergeo and Scourgify. He then sliced them one centimetre apart as Professor had demonstrated. He tossed them in the water and held his breath, but it didn't explode... GREAT! He cleaned his wooden stirrer with wand too and stirred 6 times counter clockwise.

He was doing well so far!

Resisting the urge to peek at Ella, he wrote down the next instructions and went ahead with cleaning the mortar and pestle. It was awfully boring to clean everything every time, but at least he was doing it by magic. After a sigh, he took a few Sneezewart seeds and placde them in the mortar. With a clean pestle, he crushed them into dust. Being the paranoid he cleaned his gloves too before wearing them. He took a pinch of the dust and stood as back as possible first before sprinkling it in, and he took two long steps back as well just in case. It would be fun for his hair to stand straight, but he knew better than breathing unknown gas.

And they were going to brew a potion.

Riiiight... well...

Again, it wasn't her FAVOURITE class despite being the best. She was only good at it because there was no other option. Honestly, it was kind of a waste of time to spend at least a few hours and only get one hour of impact at maximum. Sure it was handy and much could be done in an hour, but... siiiiigh... her only motivation was the chance to change into a diricawl. Another kind of a potion, and she was exploding her cauldron. Just sayin'.

Anyways, she smiled at Alec and Wade, then started writing down the ingredients and steps in FRENCH so that these Hogwartians wouldn't be able to understand them. She even eyed the people sitting next to her and made sure they weren't one of those silly I'm-clearly-better-than-you Durmies. Once done with writing, she grabbed her wand and cleaned her cauldron with FRENCH spells. Done with cleaning, she pointed her wand at the cauldron and used "Aguamenti," like everyone else. She filled it halfway, bent down slightly and said "Incendio," to light it.

...this was exactly why she would be as far as possible from any kid-related profession. Kids were UNRELIABLE at the very least, and she shook her head in annoyance at the allergic kid. Though it was better if she was out of the class. It would be one less cauldron to explode on its own. Really. Kids were also careless.

Anyways.

Cleaning the wooden board and knife with French spells again, she placed 20 blades of fluxweed and sliced them exactly one centimetre apart carefully. Potions was no joke, and even one millimetre would matter. She added them to the water, cleaned the wooden stirrer and stirred it 6 times counter clockwise at the same rate the Professor did. She cleaned her hands too and wrote the steps down, adding the next set as well. Once she was done writing, she cleaned the mortar and pestle, which she charmed quickly and silently to crush itself so her fragile arms wouldn't tire out. Once she was satisfied with the dust, she stopped the charm, cleaned her gloves, took a pinch of it and sprinkled. She quickly stook away as soon as she'd sprinkled and avoided the vapor successfully.

What else?

Sneezewart seeds. Hehehe. Sneeze. Wart. Seeds.

Right. Get yourself together, Moretti. Be mature. Pay attention. Ohhh. Something shiny. Briefly, Cat glanced in the direction of the shiny thing before dragging her full attention to the sneezewart seeds. She placed a few of them into the mortar and made sure her pestle was clean before she commenced crushing the seeds into dust, which was really really cool and she definitely liked crushing things. When they couldn't possibly get more crushed, she tugged on her gloves and gathered up a bit of the dust between her thumb and forefinger.

What? The hair? Oh no. No, ma'm. Cat was not interested in risking her pretty, pretty hair. She stepped back and carefully sprinkled in the dust then, for extra safety, she quickly took a step backwards to stand behind Mo's shoulder and hide from the potential hair-raising vapor. Whew. Dangerous. Was it safe to come out now? Lafay had ducked, so Cat wasn't taking any chances.

She waited for the vapor to dissipate before going back to her spot.

... Did the Potions mistress say something along the lines of HAIR?! Standing on end? For a DAY?!

CUE INTERNAL SCREAMING.

Apart from his eyes widening slightly, the boy tried not to show any other signs of being slightly concerned with what Lafay had said. Since he couldn't touch his hair -- what if it messed up the potion? -- the boy looked up and over at Curly... and then tilted his head. He had a lot of hair, Curly did. All of that on end...

... Staring was creepy. Head!shake. And then his eyes fell on Lea and he smiled back. Hey there!

Mortar and pestle time? Right. Alec magically cleaned the mortar before adding in the Sneezewart seeds. The pestle was cleaned too because... well... this was Potions. Everything had to be CLEAN. Using the pestle, the boy started crushing the seeds into... dust, was it? Did it matter how fine?

Once that was done, he strapped on his gloves and took a pinch of the dust. Okay. This was it. He was going to do all he can to try NOT to get his hair to stand up on end. This... probably meant having to stand as far back as possible whilst still being able to reach the cauldron. This was exactly what he was doing. Hair precautions were no joke.

And... sprinkle! A puff of vapour rose from his cauldron, which made him smile but continue standing back. Once that had disappeared, he shuffled forwards again and... took down some notes.

Sneezewart seeds, right. Ella glanced around for those and in the process spotted a red-faced Forrest. She smiled a little at the younger badger and hoped he wasn't sitting too close to the flame under his cauldron. Then it was back to work.

After setting the seeds beside her, the seventeen year old cleaned her mortar and pestle. The gloves got cleaned too because if she was handling ingredients with them, they needed it. She knew the rules.

A few was a pretty vague measurement, yeah? Ella shrugged and placed some in her mortar anyway, crushing them up with ease. CRUSH. CRUSH. CRUSH. Now for some sprinkling action. The blonde pulled her gloves on and eyed the powder. EYED it. She needed to do this quickly and with enough time to back up before her hair was damaged by whatever crazy hair-raising vapor was going to come out of the cauldron. When she'd got some in her hand, she mentally prepared herself and counted to three.

1...2...3...Sprinkle...DUCK!

Was her hair still okay?

Hair that would stick out straight for an entire day? Adi grinned at the thought of his hair like that. That would be cool! But still, he won't want Lafay to think he did not get out of the way on purpose. Nope. It would be best to keep his hair flat on his head. As he was reaching for his Sneezewart seeds he caught sight of Alec. Adi shook with silent laughter. He knew what the boy was thinking because he had this sort of horrified look on his face.

Amused still, he cleaned the mortar and pestle before proceeding to crush the seeds. Crush, crush, Cruuuuuuuuush! When he was satisfied the seeds were reduced to powder, the boy pulled on his gloves and grabbing a pinch of it, he stood back at arms length and dropped it into the cauldron. There went the puff of vapor, all right! Thankfully Adi was not hit with it.

Erm....just how much was a few...?

Lex grabbed a fistful and threw into the mortar. Her hands weren't that big so technically the portion grabbed was fine and nothing bad would happen. Gosh, and to think they said Potions was a precise art. There were so many measurements she'd guessed and her cauldron hadn't blown up yet. Disappointing but considering the Professor had once told her she'd kill her if she exploded her cauldron....she was happy with this disappointment.

The Gryffindor kept crushing away at the seeds until they were fine enough to be classified as powder. Nice--say what now??? Hair raised for an entire day....?

Alexa sprinkled the seeds into the cauldron then WAITED.

POOF! Vapor shot up from the cauldron and with it was her hair. Lex reached a hand up to feel her hair that was now going in the wrong direction. It really worked!! "COOOOOL!!!" Could she have some vapor for later after this thing wasn't so up anymore??

Sophie took a quick glance around the room and noticed nothing too exciting was happening. Come on! No Gryffindors blowing up cauldrons or anything like that? BORING PEOPLE.

She reached for the Sneezewort seeds and placed them in her mortar. Taking a clean pestle, she crushed the seeds into dust. She then used a gloved hand to take a pinch of the dust and sprinkle it into the cauldron.

She stepped back, awaiting the puff of vapor. Her hair stand up for a day? WEIRDDDD. Seeing what the professor did, she, too, ducked to avoid the vapor as much as possible.

The instruction came first. Annabeth snorted once again as if would help her to be rid of that terrible headache. As she was determinated to have the potion done no mattered what, she pointed her wand to the mortar "Scourgify!" and then to the pestle "Scourgify!", before adding a few Sneezewart seeds and putting them into the mortar. She took the mortar and checked its content. It had almost filled the mortar, so she returned part of the seeds to the original package. Anna nodded after checking the mortar content for the second time: "it will be enough", she whispered to herself, then took the pestle and crushed it quickly into dust. The girl wore her protective gloves and took a pinch of the dust, ducked her head, closing her eyes and sprinkled it in the cauldron. After hearing the puff of the vapor, she opened her eyes. Everything seemed to be right, including her hair. Without wasting time, she added the instructions about the seeds to her notes.

3 tablespoons of Cinnamon
Animal part of choice

Instructions: Fill up to half of the cauldron with water and than heat it. Take the 20 blades of Fluxweed, and place them on a wooden board, take your silver knife, and slice them a centimeter apart. Toss them in the water, and stir with your wooden stirrer 6 times counter clockwise. Take a few Sneezewart seeds and place them in your mortar, then with a clean pestle, crush them into dust... then with gloves, take a pinch of the dust and sprinkle it in. Stay back, there will be a puff of vapor... although it isn't harmful, it will make your hair stand straight up for a day.

Sneezewart seeds, okay. Nerida looked around for those.. Not finding them for a second. She smiled when she sat the seeds next to her. Now it was time clean her mortar and pestle, and she should probably clean those gloves of hers. Picking them up she cast the cleaning spell on her gloves. A few?

Um that was vague! Okay.. Nerida shrugged it off and placed some in her mortar and started to crush them.

CRUSH....CRUSH....CRUSH....Crush....

Now to sprinkle. Pulling on her gloves, the blonde knew she had to do this quickly. Otherwise her hair would be standing up for the whole day!!! Okay taking some up she sprinkled it in.

Sprinkle. Sprinkle. Sprinkle.

She stepped back, awaiting the puff of vapor. It hadn't came immediately like the Professors so she stupidly stepped back up and right as she came back up the puff of vapor came and she was left with standing up hair... Great....

This potion was going to do WHAT to his hair? He did not sign up for this class to have his looks in danger. S'lot of things he could stand for when it came to a pretty female Professor, but not this. S'not okay.

...even if it was a small chance things would go wrong...still a chance.

Moral of the story? Ascanius was gonna be awful careful working with such beauty defiant agents. Pfft. No need to get his face and/or hair all messed up.

He took a few of the sneezewart seeds and put them in his mortar. The fifth year even swished 'em around for good measure. Then he took the pestle and began to crush them into dust, but not before putting on his gloves so that when the process was done he could move forward.

The seeds were ground down and then a pinch of it was collected and sprinkled in the cauldron, yeah? WHICH MADE ASCANIUS JUMP AWAY FROM THE CAULDRON.

No touchy the hair. Puff

..Interesting. With the risk on their hair that is. Wade blinked, considering it. Well, he already had this somewhat-sleek style going on lately instead of his usual curls. Hm, perhaps this could be useful..elsewhere..? He looked for his hair-ruffling mate, Spiffy Lec, who he saw was staring at him.. Was he also imagining how their hair would look standing like a tower? Heh. Looks like they had the same idea, so Wade sent him a wink. They were so keeping a note on this ingredient for future reasons.

But for now, Wade took a few of the Sneezewart seeds to add into the mortar. After scourgifying the pestle clean, he crushed them into dust. Into lots of itty bitty little dust speckles.

Now came the risky part. Donning on the gloves, he took a pinch of the dust holding it at arms length away from him before sprinkling it into the cauldron. Then just as quickly he took a few steps back away just as the vapor started to appear and surround it.. and Wade's hair being far enough away was still looking the same. Sweet. Though he would admit, Lex's tower hair did look really cool.

Kace heard the professors next set of directions. He looked up and saw she had the the sneezewart seeds in her hand. He chuckled at the weird name. He probably was gonna remember it for a while. He placed them into his mortar. He found his pestle but it did seem a little dirty. He clean it with, "Scourgify!" and then it was pristine clean. He began to crush his seeds.

Crush...crush...crush...crush....crush...and more crushing....

Then he found his gloves and took a pinch of the dust and sprinkled into his cauldron.

Sprinkle...sprinkle....sprinkle....

He remembered to stay back. He actually made it just in time! He narrowly missed it. It went POOF!! And his reflexes made him jump back.

Whew...that was a CLOSE one. But his hair already did stick up so it wouldn't have made a difference. Shrugging he went onto waiting for the next steps.

As instructed, Mo dropped several of the seeds into his clean mortar and then carefully cleaned the pestle too. It took some serious elbow-grease to crush the seeds into dust, although Mo checked his mortar carefully to eye the progress. How small does it have to be pulverized to count as dust, hmm?

When it looked fine enough, Mo checked his dragonhide gloves before taking one very careful pinch from the mortar and adding it to his cauldron, sprinkling the powder across the surface. Now he just had to duck to avoid the vapor.

Oh, hello, girlfriend. Mo had just finished adding his powder when Cat ducked behind his shoulder, and he turned his attention to her. She got a grin and a discrete nuzzle (since his hands were gloved and powdery), and only then did Mo remember to duck from his vapor.

Or he would have ducked, if he had remembered in time. The sneezewort created a puff of vapor right at Mo, and he turned a frowny face to Cat. "How bad is my hair right now?"

And ugh, it was already time to move on. Mo cleaned his gloves and his knife at the same time, taking a long moment to try to catch his reflection in the silver knife. Was his hair standing up? Was it bad looking? Sigh. Siiiiiiiigh.

Mo laid out the knotgrass on his cutting board and carefully sliced each one as instructed. No cutting, no dicing. Just. Slicing. Got it. It took longer than he wanted to slice each one, so he was pleased as anything to dump the whole mess into the cauldron. And...? It turned red. Whew.

But like... his HAIR, ok?

Her assumption that they were supposed to let the water alone to heat up seemed to be correct, anyway, and Kendall had turned back toward professor Lafay when the woman had spoken again, giving them the next step. She hadn’t wanted to do something wrong this early in the lesson, but then, she’d rather not do anything wrong at all. When it came to Potions, at least. She valued her existence too much to risk it. Therefore, after writing down the steps that had been added to their brewing procedure, she silently took her silver knife and a cutting board out and Scourgified both. Just to be safe, since she didn’t want to be accused of not caring about her potion. Either that or end up creating something that permanently changed her into some weird creature. She liked being herself and staying in one piece.

Once she’d thoroughly cleaned both items, she picked up the fluxweed and counted out 20 blades, laying them carefully on the board. Picking up her knife, she started slicing just as carefully. If she hadn’t thought it would be way too weird, she would have taken a ruler out to measure the little slices, but she just counted on them being small enough. Once she’d finished and slid them into her cauldron it didn’t really matter anyway, as she’d quickly Scourgified her stirrer and used it to stir the mixture. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6, she counted out in her head, stirring counter-clockwise as instructed, and demonstrated. So far so good, and then it was on to the next step. If anything, it was amusing to watch people get scared that their hair would end up standing on end. She was curious if that would happen to her, when her hair was braided and pulled back out of her face to begin with, but not enough to test it.

Instead, she just got her mortar and pestle out, Scourgifying that as well along with her silver knife again just because, and then added a few sneezewart seeds to the mortar. Time to crush, and she slipped her gloves on just so she wouldn’t forget later. There were enough steps to remember that she might have forgotten, or at least just let that little tiny step slip her mind. Time to worry about that hair thing, or at least that was coming soon. First she had to crush the seeds to dust, which was oddly entertaining. She could get any frustrations out, anyway, study stress. Once the seeds were dust, she gently took a pinch of it and held it over her cauldron at arm’s length. That was going to have to be far enough, and she watched as the fine dust fell from her gloved fingers onto the potion and created that puff of vapor. She made sure to keep her head away from the cauldron, though. She wanted to watch, but she wasn’t going to look like she’d been electrocuted.

Instead, she applied herself to getting the knotgrass and Scourgifying her cutting board again, quickly running it over her knife a third time just to make sure no dust had accidentally gotten on that. Once that was complete, she started slicing again, remembering to only slice in one direction. Honestly, she wasn’t sure why they’d be cross-cutting anyway, when it always seemed like it was better to take her time when brewing Potions. It took a while, but eventually she had finished and picked up her cutting board to slide the sliced knotgrass into the cauldron. Now she just had to see if the potion turned red, and that meant getting a look at it. Leaning over her cauldron slightly, she mentally sighed in relief as the liquid turned red. It looked kind of creepy, but that was what it was supposed to look like. She’d just have to ignore the creepy part.

Following the next instructions, Blair grabbed a few Sneezewart seeds and put them in her mortar. She picked up her pestle and gave it a quick clean with "Scourgify." Blair then got started on crushing the seeds into dust.

After about 5 minutes of hard work the seeds had became a fine powder. Blair popped on her protective gloves and took a pinch of the dust, careful not to drop any. She stretched her arm out over the cauldron, ensuring to keep the rest of her body well out the way. She didn't fancy walking around with her hair standing on end all day. Blair dropped the dust in and poof the vapour began rising from her cauldron. Hopefully a sign she was doing it right.

Moving on to the next step Blair lifted her bunch of knotgrass and placed in on the wooden board. The Professor was very specific that it was to be sliced and not chopped. Picking up her silver knife she carefully began slicing the knotgrass, ensuring it was all in the one direction.

Once the knotgrass was all equally sliced she added this to her cauldron. Blair was unsure if she was required to be wearing her gloves but she kept them on to be on the safe side. A broad smile crept across her face as she watched her potion turn red.

Sneezewart actually sounded funny for a potions ingredient, Kat thought. She didn't giggle or anything though because brewing a potion required concentration. She didn't wanna mess her potion at all. In fact, she'd never want to mess up a single potion. Like ever. She placed the sneezewart seeds in her mortar. "Scourgify," she pointed her wand at her pestle just because it needed to be clean and then started crushing the seeds. Crush... crush... crush. Once the crushing was done, Kat wore her gloves and took a pinch of the now crushed sneezewart seeds and sprinkled it on her potion.

DUCK.

No potion was touching her hair. NOT TODAY. Nope.

Hecate closed her eyes and rubbed her temples... "Alright, let's move on... take your silver knife and clean it... then lie out your bunch of knottgrass and slice, don't chop, SLICE it. Do not cross cut, just slice one way." And she sliced and sliced... "Then add it to the mixture, it'll turn your potion red."
"Scourgify," Kat cleaned her silver knife this time and took her knottgrass. She sliced it as straight as possible and in one way. Yep, she squinted and all so that it would be straight. Effort, you know. She didn't want it to go wrong and nobody liked that. No exploding cauldrons were allowed in this classroom. Nada.

Once she was finished slicing her knotgrass, Kat added it to the potion and watched it as it turned to the color red. So... at least she didn't mess up. Going on the right track.

She wondered if the closed eyes and temple rubbing was because of Alexa? She was pretty sure that it was. Considering nothing had blown up or anything maybe that was why Lafay didn't say anything. She eyed Alexa's hair with no shame. She had no idea why anybody would want to look like that. Didn't she care about her appearance? Obviously not.

Lafay was speaking so her attention was back on her. She took the silver knife and cleaned it. She laid out her knottgrass nice and neat. Then she very carefully sliced it all in the same direction. She took care not to criss cross cut or do anything that wasn't perfect. Once that was completed she too tossed them into the cauldron. She looked at the liquid hoping that it would turn the right color. Would Lafay make her start all over again? Most likely. She stared for what seemed like forever and finally there was a nice red color.

Adi was finishing his write up of the previous set of instructions when Professor Lafay moved on to the next set. He grabbed his silver knife and cleaned it using Scourgify. Next, with the knotgrass in front of him, he began to slice, slice, slice, slice until the knotgrass was all done.

Scooping them up, the firstie added them to his potion. Looky! All red now. Cool!

Curly Wade was winking at him. So, naturally, Alec winked back. He knew what this meant, especially since the wink had come after Lafay had mentioned the precaution considering the hair. Talks were going to be had, Curly. Nodnod.

Instructions? Yeah... that meant he needed to concentrate.

The boy grabbed his silver knife and cleaned that and his cutting board magically. Again. There was a lot of cleaning required in Potions, which was a bit hard to remember at first but after six years -- SIX YEARS! -- the process seemed to come naturally. Almost.

... Yeah... he was not going to be happy if he ended up jinxing himself. NEWTs, you know. They were HARD.

The Knotgrass was spread across the clean cutting board. He held up the silver knife and started slicing the Knotgrass. One way. Slice. No chopping or cross-cutting, as Lafay had said. Once he was done with that, he picked up his cutting board and slid the sliced up Knotgrass into the potion using his knife. This... was one of those all-too-familiar moments where he felt like he was cooking, as well as Potion-making.

The cutting board was put down again and Alec grinned as the potion started turning red. Awesome.

She was doing all the steps though silently. Not that they were allowed to chat amongst themselves. Nope. That wasn't allowed and anyway there wasn't really time. The instructions needed concentration and so the fifth-year was fully focused on her cauldron and ingredients.

Next step please! KNIFE! The blond reached out and took the knife then cleaned it with a quick 'scourgify'. Surely she wasn't going to do it manually. What kind of a witch would she be, huh?And there was the fact that where would she find a towel or a rag or something. The cleaning spell did just perfectly.

Knottgrass then, the Slytherin did as the professor did and started slicing carefully. Good thing she knew how to use a knife and was familiar with the motion. Would want to mess it up and chop instead of slice. Once she had sliced enough, Cassia added them to the potion and watched the liquid closely until it turned red. So far so good.

Forrest wrote down the instructions and watched Ella first purely to make sure he got the step correctly. His eyes were solely on her hands and knottgrass because he couldn't look at her face he wanted to learn. After making sure he got it okay--more like because she had cut it all and there wasn't much left for him to watch--he turned his attention back on his silver knife and cleaned it with magic. He SLIIIICED and SLIIIICED the knottgrass too and added it to the potion.

Léa watched the professor carefully, wrote down the processes, quickly cleaned her silver knife with a silent cleaning charm, lay the knottgrass and started slicing it like the professor did. Boredom, adding the knottgrass to the potion, boredom, red colour, more boredom.

Focus Min.. focus.. her mind just kept slipping away to other things. She had been staring at her cauldron waiting on the next when her mind must have slipped off into thoughts, because then next thing she new out of the corner of her eye she saw movement and jumped a bit. Looking she watched Wade as he had ducked away from something.

bink

Oh.. they had moved on.. and moved on a few steps.. Well oops she sat up straighter to force focus. Glancing around the room she couldn't help but to giggle a bit at Alexa and Mo's hair. Cut look guys.. really. Anyway she had to get back to her cauldron before the professor noticed she had slipped behind. Pulling her wand and doing the movements she quickly cleaned the mortar and pestle. Placing the sneezewart seed in she crushed and crushed until it was down into dust. Taking a pinch of the dust she sprinkled it above her cauldron and quickly moved back away from the puff. No need to put added attention on her by having her long blonde hair standing way to high in the air.

Glancing around she quickly looked at the board for the next step thankfully realizing she was only two steps behind and not further she grabbed her knife and non verbally cleaned it. Lying the knottgrass down she quickly sliced the pieces and placed them in her cauldron. Looking over it to make sure it was red.

.......Ooops.

Nope. The boy was supposed to ignore her. She was using him as a human shield away from the hair-raising vapor, but instead, she inadvertently distracted him from ducking himself. Cat gave Mo a sympathetic look as she cleaned her knife in preparation to use it once again. "It's not so bad, really." It wasn't like his hair was super long and sticking up all super crazy like, right? Bright side?

Carefully, she went back to paying attention to her potion. There was quite a bit of slicing of knottgrass. Slicing, one way, that was it. Nothing else. She wasn't going to mess anything up, yes. Potion making required discipline. Or something like that. She did NOT look at Mo or his hair while she was slicing. Focused.

When she was finally done, she added the knottgrass cuttings into her cauldron and peered at a safe distance, watching as it did indeed turn red. Pretty. Red was a pretty color.

It also meant she was still on the right track.

About the hair though. She passed the boy another look. It really wasn't that bad, really. Cat offered a smile.

See, this was why Wade and Alec were such good buddies. Seeing him wink back got him smiling. They could start a winking contest right here and now. But of course, Potions came first. They could always talk afterward.

After hearing the instructions, Wade had to move a few things on his desk around for enough room. Now taking the silver knife, after cleaning it of course. If there anything to be thankful of last year was the amount of times he had to perform cleaning spells until it became a habit. Afterward, he laid the knottgrass ithe way meant for slicing.

Making sure not to cross cut or do any sort of chopping, he sliced them enough times one way before adding it into the mixture. His brows furrowed as it looked like it didn't do anything for a moment, before he saw it turn red.. red like blood. Hm, interesting.

Sophie eyed her grandmother. Was she sick...or annoyed? She puzzled over that for a second or two before turning back to the brewing process. After cleaning her silver knife, she spread out the knotgrass then began the process of slicing it. SLICING, not chopping. Had this woman not been her grandmother, Sophie would have considered raising her hand and asking 'Do we slice it or chop it?' just to bring more annoyance to the table.

She checked the cutting process to make sure she wasn't cross-cutting. Nope. All nice and in one direction. When she was done, she added it to the mixture and watched while she waited for it to turn red.

"Alright, lets get this potion finished shall we?" She said retrieving her cinnamon. "Put in the three tablespoons of Cinnamon, you will see it will linger on the top of the liquid. Take the animal part that you harvested, and drop it in in the middle of the cinnamon. It will envelop the piece and drop to the middle of the cauldron." She demonstrated and then waited. "Listen carefully... when it-" And the cauldron let out a loud wet farting noise. "Yeah... that. It's ready for your spell." She said and took out her wand. "The motion is a simple flick and double swish, then say the incantation, Comantis Bestiarius" She said casting the spell herself, "which coincidentally, is the name of this potion, and you should be all set... There must have been some way of preserving her hair like this. The Professor said it only lasted about a day but what about if someone deliberately tried keeping it longer? Wouldn't be too hard, yes?

She'd worry about that later. For now, she got her knife cleaned with a quick scourgify then began SLICING because apparently that was SO MUCH BETTER than chopping. Pffft, Lex wouldn't question it. One direction of slicing too. You never know when it would end up being the difference between a successful potion and her having to start over. Let's be clear, whether this thing worked or not, she was NOT starting over. That would have meant the first attempt was a waste. The Gryffindor didn't do waste.

Lex took the sliced knotgrass and added it to the mixture then watched it turn red right on cue. Good good. Something was being done right. She wouldn't have to worry.

Go on, take a dropper, and pour it on your arm..."

While the Professor worked, she tried mimicking her movements. Lex grabbed for the cinnamon on her table the moment the Professor grabbed her own. Three tablespoons was it? She dropped them in then reached for the Abraxan hair she'd worked pretty hard to get. There was a hero's story with these strands which made it like a memorial kinda thing and even more important for her to have more than one vial.

Just seconds after the Professor's cauldron made a funny noise hers did too. To say she wasn't snickering a bit to herself would have been an outright lie. The sound was kinda funny and she could appreciate that. How's about everyone else?

Alexa raised her wand and performed the flick double swish. "Comantis Bestiarius!"

Er....and that was it? The Professor said they'd be all set after that so....Lex reached for the dropper and got a few drops on her arm.

....Now what?

Minerva was listening now.. She was.. So when it was time for the final steps she was ready. Picking up the cinnamon, she made sure she had three tablespoons of it and placed it in the cauldron. Looking into the mixture she noticed it was sitting just as Lafay said it would. So she turned to the next step. Finding Liesel's feather she dropped it in and watched.

giggle...giggle

She really shouldn't giggle at the farting noise, but it was a farting noise who wouldn't giggle at that. Trying to get past the giggle fits she was wanting to go into, Min looked at the potion. Spell time.. got it. Pulling out her wand she did the flick and double swish "Comantis Bestiarius"

So that was it.. She was done. Getting the dropper she hesitated, This is safe right.. were the thoughts that went through her mind. Blue eyes glanced at Wade for a moment before placing the potion on her arm.

Adi watched and listened as Professor Lafay did her thing. He nearly laughed aloud when it made the farting sound. Did potions usually make funny sounds? Pondering on the question, he continued to work on his own potion.

He added in the three table spoons of cinnamon and watched them...just sort of float there. Adi grabbed the owl's feather into the center of all the cinnamon. Soon he could not see the feather any more for the cinnamon seemed to have swallowed it. And then came the farting sound. The boy grinned. Really, it was funny hearing a potion making that sound.

Spell time! A flick followed by the double swish. "Comantis Bestiarius!'' So, they were done? Time to actually use the potion. Adi took the dropper and got some of the potion into it. Um.....he was gonna be okay, riiiight? Shaking his reluctance away, he placed the potion on his arm. Soooooo. What next?

Hecate closed her eyes and rubbed her temples... "Alright, let's move on... take your silver knife and clean it... then lie out your bunch of knottgrass and slice, don't chop, SLICE it. Do not cross cut, just slice one way." And she sliced and sliced... "Then add it to the mixture, it'll turn your potion red."

Time to move on. Annabeth took her pocketknife and cleaned it once again. Then she took the knottgrass and sliced it as the teacher had demonstrated. after doing it, she picked a slice and put it into the cauldron. The potion changed its color, although it wasn't red yet. She added another slice and counted a blink. Nothing happened. She repeated the procedure twice and the potion turned red. She looked at the teacher, who was explaining the next step:
"Alright, lets get this potion finished shall we?" She said retrieving her cinnamon. "Put in the three tablespoons of Cinnamon, you will see it will linger on the top of the liquid. Take the animal part that you harvested, and drop it in in the middle of the cinnamon. It will envelop the piece and drop to the middle of the cauldron." She demonstrated and then waited. Anna scourgify her tablespoon and added three measures of Cinnamon into her cauldron. The she took the cotton swabb with the butterfly's scales and shook it gently letting the scales falling in the middle of the cinnamon. Then the cinnamon powder enveloped the scales and submerged. Then Anna heard a discrete clink indicating that the evolved scales had reached the bottom of the cauldron. Annabeth's cauldron made a small noise. Then, she took her wand, waved it twice and said the incantation:
"Comantis Bestiarius!" She said casting the spell, then she took a dropper, and poured it on her arm carefully. Then she waited to see the effects.

Alright time to get the chopping done. He got his knife out and cleaned it an then he lied out his knottgrass. He just needed to slice it, not chop it. He sliced it one way just like the professor was doing. He was slicing...slicing...slicing...and once he felt it was done. He added it to the mixture and then it was red!!

Awesome! He was doing pretty well.

He heard the professor move on onto another set of directions. Wow they were almost done? He needed to find his cinnamon and and he added the three tablespoons. He had to decipher the tablespoons from teaspoons for a minute and then added three of them..

One...two..three...

He saw it lingering on top of the liquid. He saw it swirling and it was kind of cool. Now was the time for the animal hairs. He got his niffler hairs set in his hand. He had to get into the center. He placed the hairs just right and let them fall. He saw it engulf it and his eye brows raised. That was pretty cool. Then he heard the little farting noise. He chuckled and grinned at the noise. But he heard he needed to do a spell.

It was a simple flick and a double swish. He did the wand movement and said, "Comantis Bestiarius!" and then he hoped he said it right. He managed to find a dropper and got it from his cauldron and then he dropped the potion onto his arm. He wondered what was gonna happen....

Mo shooed Cat away, since she was making him feel all BAD about his hair by trying so hard to make him feel better. He needed to focus on this potion, since he really waned to spend some time with fur and not turn into a giant oozing banana slug or something. He did give her an apologetic look, though, which should account for something.

The three tablespoons of cinnamon went into the potion right in the center, where it just sort of floated as a distinguishable blob. That was interesting. Rather than poking it with a stick, like he wanted to do, Mo obediently dropped the little clump of fur on top of the cinnamon in the cauldron. The whole mess sunk beneath the surface, and he held his breath a bit too gleefully for the sound.

And THERE it was. Hehe. "Comantis Bestiarius," Mo pointed his wand and performed the flicks and swishes in a row at the same time. Did it work? There was no way to tell aside from testing it on himself, and Mo was totally game for that. He peeled off his gloves, took a dropper full of the potion, and squeezed it out on his arm. Okay, now what?

..Alright then. After watching, Wade took the cinnamon and added in the cauldron three tablespoons of it. He blinked at it curiously as it practically floated on before turning back to his desk. He had to get the hippogriff feather of course that was currently waiting under his book. Now he could put it in.

Making sure to drop it right in the middle of the floating cinnamon, he waited.. Not for long before it emitted a very familiar sound. Now this just proved even potions get gassy after eating certain things. Heh. Wade smirked at it before he remembered what to do next. Taking his wand over it he mimicked the flick and double swish before saying, "Comantis Bestiarius!" and that was it. Supposedly.

Now to roll up his left sleeve and robe, it was time to test it. Taking the dropper, he used it to collect enough of the potion before pouring it over his arm.. and waited for the results to happen.

They were already almost finished. That had surprised Kendall, only because she’d gotten a bit distracted from the list of ingredients with her concern over if she’d been far enough away from the potion back when she’d added the sneezewart. More accurately, she was still curious how that would have worked with her hair braided away from her face, but she wasn’t going to test it. Not when she’d seen the side effect in action on Mo and Alexa, and no matter how curious she was, she didn’t want her braid to be standing on end or anything. Besides, she wasn’t going to start over just to test it when she was so close to finishing and possibly ending up a weird Kendall-Accio mutant. That was more interesting anyhow, just because it was like a disguise. Superheroes had disguises after all, so she was just finding out new ways to do that.

Finding the cinnamon, she Scourgified her measuring spoons and then used them to measure out three tablespoons and add them to her potion, tilting her head to check and see if the cinnamon was floating like it was supposed to. She couldn’t really tell if all of it was floating, but at least most of it looked like it was. Therefore, it was time for the last ingredient. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled the tuft of orange fur out and dropped it into the center of the floating cinnamon, watching it again as it almost looked like the spice ate the fur and the whole lump sank below the surface like a tiny sea monster. Hmm, I like that, she thought, pulling her head back seconds before the wet gassy sound happened. She didn’t know if there was a smell too, but she didn’t want to find out.

Instead, she took her wand out and performed the flick and double swish motion. “Comantis Bestiarius,” she said, her voice slipping faintly into the Irish lilt she usually tried to keep away when she was casting spells. The potion should still know what she said, so she just slipped her wand back into its holster on her arm before looking for an eyedropper. Time to test it out, and once the eyedropper was located, she dipped it into the cauldron to collect a bit of the potion before stretching her left arm out to drip the liquid onto the skin there. Now she just had to wait and see what happened. She was hoping for something interesting at least, and not turning her arm into a noodle or something.

Comantis Bestiarius

7. Use (cleaned) silver knife to slice the knotgrass (do not cross-cut) before adding to potion (potion should turn red)
8. Add the cinnamon. It should float on the surface of the potion
9. Add the part from the desired animal in the center of the cinnamon. IT should be enveloped by the cinnamon and fall to the bottom of the cauldron
10. Listen for a gassy noise, then cast “Comantis Bestiarius” over the potion using a flick-double swish motion of the wand

Turns out they were almost finished, they had been instructed to carry out the final steps of the potion. She found her cinnamon, accurately measured three tablespoons and put them into her cauldron. Blair looked over into her cauldron, it appeared to her that it was infact floating on top of the mixture.

Blair then lifted the bright orange feathers she had collected earlier from the bird-like creature. As instructed, she dropped it into the middle of her cauldron and watched as it slowly sank down under the potion and made the same sound as the Professors.

She picked up her wand, made the flick and double swish motion then said "Comantis Bestiarius." Taking a dropper, she collected a small amount of the potion. She held her breath and let a few drops fall onto her arm and waited to see the effect..

This time, Kat took the cinnamon, measured three tablespoons of it and added it to her potion. Just as Professor Lafay said, it lingered on top of the liquid. At least she was doing it right. Then she took the owl feather she got from Chase, who probably still wasn't happy about it, and dropped in on the middle of the cinnamon. Kat looked inside her cauldron and saw as the potion enveloped the feather.

Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt.

The little farting sound was awkward yet amusing to the Head Girl apparently. How mature. Kat took out her wand from her pocket so that she could perform the spell immediately. "Comantis Bestiarius!" Flick. Swish. Swish. Alright, she was done! Taking the dropper, Kat took a bit of the potion and dropped a few drops on her arm.

Was it supposed to do something? TURN HER INTO AN OWL?

... They were going to be finished with the potion? That soon? Alec looked over at his piece of parchment. ... Two more ingredients. And then they could see if this potion worked. And then the class was over...? Was it? And then he could go and talk to Curly Wade about top secret things.

... Moving on...

He shook his head before turning his attention back towards his potion. Three tablespoons of cinnamon, was it? That was added in, right in the centre. He watched for a moment as it lingered on top of the liquid before turning to pick up the hairs. This... was the moment of truth! ... Maybe. Yeah. The hairs were added into the potion, right in the middle of the cinnamon. Envelop and drop to the middle? Check. Now he just had to wait for--

... There it was! SNORT.

He smacked a hand over his mouth and tried his hardest not to laugh anymore. It wasn't THAT funny... right? He removed his hand and went to pick up his wand. Spell... spell... Comantis Bestiarius... Comantis... Bestiarius... The words were repeated in his head a couple of times before he cried, "Comantis Bestiarius!" Flick and double swish!

All set. Yeah. There was only one way to tell whether the potion had worked, right? NOW was the moment of truth. Alec reached for the dropper, gathered up some of the potion before squeezing it out on his arm.

There. Done. Now what?

The potion was almost complete. She just needed to not mess it up now. She listened to Lafay as she explained the next steps. She grabbed the cinnamon and carefully measured out three tablespoons of it and added it into her cauldron. Lafay was right, it did linger on the top of the potion. Now she was able to put her fur to good use. She snatched it up and placed it carefully on top of the cinnamon. It was going to what? Hannah was not amused by the noise that came from the professor's cauldron. Knowing that her cauldron would also have to make that noise made her noise wrinkle in distaste.

Before she had a chance to complain though her cauldron made that disgusting farting noise and she glared at it as if it was the cauldron's fault. It couldn't have made a more pleasant noise? At least she had done it correctly... that said something. She picked up her wand and did the flick and double swish while saying "Comantis Bestiarius!" She wasn't looking forward to the next part really. The sixth year picked up the dropper and suctioned the potion up and squeezed it on her arm.

This potion was weird. First it could give him a temporary hair straightening - now it was going to FART? Gross. Caleb didn't know how he felt about actually putting this stuff on his body. BUT. He had to. For points and stuff.

He took his cinnamon and added three tablespoons as instructed. He then took the crup hairs he'd taken from the creatures sanctuary and dropped them in the pile of cinnamon he'd put in the potion and watched as it swallowed up the hairs and plopped into the cauldron. After a moment or two, he heard the fart noise and knew it was time to do the incantation.

"Comantis Bestiarius!" he exclaimed, doing the swish and flick movement as instructed. He waited to see if anything would happen, and when he was pretty sure it was done, he took a dropper and dropped a few drops on his skin. Ok, was it going to work...or not?

Almost finished? That was cool. Ella eyed her potion again curiously before cleaning her spoon and reaching for the cinnamon. Three tablespoons were added and it really was neat the way it sort of just sat on top of the liquid, like a little cinnamon boat or something. A delicious boat at that. Cinnamon, mmm.

Next came the cruppy hair. Ella sprinkled it into the middle of the cinnamon, her eyes widening when the stuff seemed to swallow up the hair and pull it down into the potion. Merlin. And then she just needed to wait for the...

BLINK. That...was an uncomfortable noise. Yeah. With a flick and a double swish of her wand, she said clearly, "Comantis Bestiarius!"

It was done now, yeah? So...Ella cleaned her dropper and got some of the liquid inside. She was sort of nervous about this, y'know. And after the dropper was above her arm, the seventeen year old squeezed.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

Alrght. Caterina was fifteen, almost sixteen years old. She did NOT need to be giggling about funny noises.

Although, well, it seemed to be a reflex, living with four brothers your whole life, one learns that noises are silly and should be laughed at. As it were, she managed to NOT laugh at the noise Lafay's cauldron had made. Instead, she was going to be mature and finish her potion correctly. Yes. After measuring out three tablespoons of cinnamon (yum yum cinnamon) into her cauldron, Cat took the tuft of kneazle fur she'd collected from the baby faced kneazle baby, and placed it right in the middle of the spot of cinnamon. She watched it sink and bit her lip to keep from giggling this time, when her cauldron made that silly noise.

Whew. That was close.

Right now. Simple flick and double swish. That was easy enough. Cat performed the motions and spoke clearly to her cauldron, "Comantis Bestiarius." Ooooh. Now it was ready for testing. She selected some of the potion into the dropper and then let it fall back again on to her arm.

What was it going to do now? This was weird, actually. Maybe she didn't want to grow fur. EEP. Cat glanced at Mo's arm to see what happened to him, too.

Sometimes this class made no sense, yeah? S'not like the material, but just in the pregnant pauses that Lafay always seemed to be taking, which made Ascanius confused. The Head of his house needed to like zen out or something. He was well practiced in that art.

Anyway, moving onto the last part of the potion, or at least that was what it seemed like, Ascanius grabbed a tablespoon and began to fill it with cinnamon. Then he dropped the first load in and continued to do this twice more until three tablespoons or Cinnamon were in the cauldron. However, it never sunk, which he didn't question, yeah?

The worst part of it all, though, was taking the animal part that he harvested and dropping it into the middle of the potion. He really didn't wanna deal with the feather he had plucked, thank you. Ascanius still had no idea where it had been, yeah?

And then...the noise. He was so unamused. S'not funny.

Then he drew out his wand and swished his wand twice with a flick, "Comantis Bestiarius."

As to the dropper part...he was leary.

DID THIS MEAN THEY COULD TURN DERRY INTO A HORSE BECAUSE THAT WAS LITERALLY HER FAVOURITE ANIMAL IN THE WORLD EVER AND WOULD BE TOTALY PERFECT.

Right. Well... then lets go get some horse hair. Derry jumped up from her seat, and left the classroom. It wasn’t that hard to go and collect some horsehair, she had a bracelet of it from Osiris’ mane in her dorm. So she didn’t exactly rush, more like meandered, since the dorm wasn’t far from the potions classroom, and she was still back before some of the others.

Okay. Horsehair obtained.

When Derry was back in the classroom she quickly noted down everything on the blackboard and made sure to clean her cauldron properly, just in case. Right. Okay. Let’s try not to fail because this could be awesome.

Water. That was pretty simple, right? Right. Derry filled her cauldron half up with water and lit the flame underneath it. Okay. Step one completed safely. Not that water was all that dangerous, but that wasn’t the point. Derry could injure herself on anything, and since they had a game soon she was pretty sure people wouldn’t be particularly sympathetic if she was to scald her seeking hand. What next...

Fluxweed. Wooden board. Silver knife. Okay. Derry carefully counted out twenty blades of Fluxweed, just to be sure, and lined them up on her wooden board. Then carefully measured about a centimetre of each length as she chopped them. Then tossed them into the water, got her wooden stirrer (why did they have to use these ones? She liked the glass ones better, they looked cooler... but oh well), took a second to be sure she knew which way anti-clockwise was and stirred the mixture six times in the right direction. Well... this was relatively easy. Like super precise baking... not that she was good at that. Derry was more the Mix and Hope kind of girl, but she supposed she could get used to this. Next!

Oooh the sneezewart. ... Well, Derry’s hair occasionally stood straight up without the help of the sneezewart thankyouverymuch. But she didn’t want to test this, so she resolved to be careful not to get in the way. After all, what if Józsua saw her make a fool of herself.... sigh... NO. CONCENTRATE. Right... Derry carefully began to grind a few of the sneezewart seeds (after magically cleaning her mortar and pestle, she’d forgotten once and it had been tragic)... they ground pretty easily actually, not like those ridiculous pods her mam had tried to make her cook with... sigh. Anyway, grinding was done it seemed... she gave them a few seconds longer just for good luck, then put on her gloves and picked up a pinch of the powder.

Carefully stepping back from the potion and holding the powder at arms length, she sprinkled it into the cauldron. Even with the warning she still managed to jump when the puff of vapour happened, but she was nice and safely out of the way. Oooh, this was quite fun actually... hehe. Okay... what was next..?

Silver knife again... these things were pretty dangerous weren’t they..? Sharp anyway, and Derry was a tiny bit worried she might end up slicing her finger instead of the knottgrass, but she’d just have to be careful, wouldn’t she? Yes. After a cleaning charm on her knife and the wooden board, Derry lay out her bunch of knottgrass and began to slice. Slice, slice, slice, slice, FINGERMOVEYOURFINGER, slice, slice, slice. Once she was done slicing, she inspected her hands - still in once piece, nothing missing - and added it to the potion, which turned red. HANG ON, DID THIS MEAN SHE WAS DOING IT RIGHT? THIS WAS FANTASTIC.

Now for the cinnamon. Derry was a big fan of cinnamon. Especially in applecake. Which her dad made. It was fantastic. Anyway, that wasn’t the point, three tablespoons in the potion was the point. She followed this instruction and watched the cinnamon group together on the surface of the potion. Which meant it was time for her horsehair. Right. Derry carefully dropped the long, black horsehair into the middle of the cinnamon and watched the potion do it’s thing until...

...hehe.

Okay... did that mean the potion was ready?

WAIT. NO. INCANTATION. She always forgot about that bit.

Flick, swish, swish. “Comantis Bestiarius.”

Was it done now? COULD SHE BE A HORSE? Please?

Okay. A dropper... Derry got one and, without hesitation, poured some of the potion onto her arm. WHAT WAS IT GOING TO DO? SHE WAS EXCITED!!!

There was an allergy remedy? She blushed as she looked down at the fluxweed in its little container. Okay, take an allergy remedy before potions class... or anywhere she might need it. Got it.

Maika smiled shyly. "I'm Maika. Thank you very much. You were a big help." She took her stirrer and began counting. "One... two... three... four... five... six..." She made sure to be precise in where the moment the stirrer stopped and smiled. "There we go!"

Of course... Hufflestud to the rescue...

How many were a few? Well, she said it would only be a pinch of the powder, right? So she added about what should be a pinch of it, and then a little more, to mortar. Taking the pestle she ground it as fine as she could. Then she put on gloves and put a pinch of the stuff in, standing as far back as she could that her little arm could reach. POOF! At the puff of vapor, and her enjoyment at seeing it, she forgot just how off-balance she was and topped over. Thankfully, she didn't hit anything but the floor, and didn't hurt anything but her pride. She got up, took her gloves off, and dusted herself off.

Wade had already cleaned her knife, thankfully, so she just picked it up and laid out her knottgrass. Carefully she sliced the stuff, running her knife along the smooth surface of her cutting board. Once satisfied, she put it into her mixture, watching as the knottgrass sank and her potion turned red.

No...

... Not the Branxton boy too... Merlin. She had such high hopes for this one...

He was distracted by a girl...

Witches...

Go on, take a dropper, and pour it on your arm..."

She covered her mouth with both hands to try and stifle a giggle. Okay, she was eleven. She shouldn't be giggling over something like that. But the room was going to be filled with it. Once she was certain she was calmer, she carefully measured out the cinnamon and put it in the cauldron. One, two, three. Good! She added the cat fur and waited. Yup! There was that sound! And from so many other cauldrons as well. This time she couldn't stifle the giggle. It was immature, but at this point she didn't care. She took a deep breath, but the smile kept on her face as she pulled out the wand. Okay, flick, swish, swish, "Comantis Bestiarius!"

She looked into the cauldron at the potion. It seemed right. Okay then, she took out her dropper and took a little into it, then held it over her arm. With a deep breath, she let the drop fall and closed her eyes.

Hecate's arm began to sprout hair... dark hair... in fact, her kneazle's hair... and once it stopped, it had covered a huge patch on her arm. "There."

Min looked up at Lafay's words. Her eyes widened. Oh cool she had fur now. It suited her really... quiet giggle. Turning back to her own arm she wondered if she had done everything right, because it seemed nothing was happening. She had stopped listening for a few moment there during a few steps. Maybe that was.... Oh wait.. She saw something growing and there were feathers.

FEATHERS!!!

There were feathers people.. Did they see this. She couldn't help but bounce a bit and giggle with excitement. She had owl feathers. OWL.. not just any owl, her owl. Liesel feathers growing out of her arm. This was the coolest thing EVER.. She could look at the feathers the rest of the day. Yep she was going to have Owl feathers well for as long as Lafay let them.

Caleb looked up and saw that Lafay was now covered in orange cat hair, just like her Kneazle. Whooooa. That was so cool! Suddenly he realized that there was a weird tickling on his arm, and he looked down to see a bunch of thin white hairs popping up on his arm. HE WAS TURNING INTO A CRUP!

Well ok not TOTALLY into a crup. But he was going to look like one!

Once it stopped growing on his arm, he just stared at it for a few minutes before he took his hand and felt the crup fur. AAAHHHH it was all soft and coarse and it reminded him of petting their dog, Belle, back when they still had her. It was cool and unnerving at the same time.

"Professor? How long does this last?" he asked, raising his hand. Hopefully not too long. It was fun, but not something he wanted to sport all day.

Adelaide had been lazy and just went and grabbed a hair from Oreo in the common room. Needless to say the cat was not too happy about this. She had made quick notes of what she was going to need for the potion, because this was honestly one that was pretty dang exciting. She went through the list making sure she had everything, checking off as she went. Fluxweed, check. Sneezewart seeds, check. Knotgrass, check. Cinnamon, check. Cat hair, check. Silver knife and stirrer, check. Mortar and pestle, check. Good. Now to get started.

Addi looked over at her cauldron, which she filled about halfway with water. She lit the little fire underneath, so that the water could start warming up. Now onto the actual parts that came with making the potion.

Now onto the fluxweed. Adelaide put her 20 blades of fluxweed on the board. She grabbed her knife and carefully cut them. It was really weird to judge what was one centimeter, but she got as close as she visually could without using a ruler. She picked it up and dropped it in the water, before setting her knife down on the table. One, two, three, four, five, six turns counter clockwise. Onto the next step.

Addi placed the sneezewart seeds into the mortar, then grabbed her pestle. She began to grind them, continuing so until they were ground down to what she thought was acceptable dust looking. She set the pestle down and pulled her gloves on quickly. She picked up a pinch and dropped it in the cauldron. Poof! She made sure to back up so that her hair wasn't crazy. With it being red, it was crazy enough.

She went on and cleaned off her knife, before wiping it dry. Addi put her knotgrass on the little wooden cutting board. She carefully sliced her knife through it, making sure not to knick her fingers. Which wasn't too hard with all of the cooking she did and such. She set the knife down and dropped the knotgrass into the potion. She peered inside to make sure that it was the red color that it should be. And indeed it was.

Adelaide measured out 3 table spoons of the cinnamon and placed it in the cauldron. It lingered how it was supposed to and she placed Oreo's hair in the center. Now to wait for the farting sound. And there it was. Right on cue. She bit back a giggle. She grabbed her wand and pointed it at the potion. "Comantius beastiarus." There. Everything should be all good now.

Adelaide took her dropper and picked up some of her potion. She took a deep breath before dropping it onto her arm. Hopefully everything had gone right. And apparently it had because there was some little white and black fur growing on her arm. Cool.

Derry was waiting for her potion to work. Waiting waiting wai- OH!

As she watched her arm, little black hairs began to sprout before her very eyes. HORSE HAIRS! Derry was turning into a HORSE! Well... sort of. As close to a horse as you could get without some mental transfiguration. Or being an animagus...

After a few moments, Derry's arm was sporting the sleek, black hair of her horse.

...

Now what? She stroked the hair absentmindedly and waited for Professor Lafay to answer the first years question. How long was she going to be part horse..?

Maika watched the white fur begin to sprout from her arm. She smiled and looked back into the cauldron. "Professor, what if we just... covered ourselves with it? Can we do that next?"

She stared at the professor's arm forever. She did not want to have any hair on her body like that. On the plus side though, it was only a small patch so she could most likely deal until it was taken off. Taking a deep breath in and preparing herself she looked down at her arm. She too had hair, but it wasn't really that bad. They would be able to get it off easily right? Right?

Hannah looked around to see how the others were coming along. She saw some feathers and white fur. So far it didn't seem as if anybody was having any problems. So... she had done it, now when could she take it off?

At first she thought her potion might have been defective because everyone else was sprouting fur or feathers. Lex contemplated adding a few extra drops just to be on the safe side but then she saw it. The silky fur was spreading along her arm until it resembled the coat of the Abraxan she'd gotten the hair from.

dhfbvsdrgf!!!! COOOOOL!!!

She'd heard someone ask how long it would last and she had the exact same question. Her hair was still standing up and now her arm was covered like a winged horse's. Could today get any better??? Probably, but that would require someone casting that spell that gave her antlers. Just for a day, she'd be her own creature and it'd be epic.

But again, they were only gonna keep one vial, huh? BOO.

Alright so now it was time to see if this potion really worked. Kace forgot the professor was using kneazle hair for her potion as well. Once he put the drop on his arm, he began to see kneazle hair growing on his arm. He saw the dark hairs multiplying and he thought it was SOOO cool!

He hoped this didn't last forever because then he would have a lot of explaining to do with his parents if it didn't wear off. He saw all the rest of his classmates having different hair colors and it was quite cool to observe as well.

Alec looked over at Lafay, and more specifically her arm, with an expression of curiosity. Hair! Fur! HAIR! So this potion would really work... if he had brewed it correctly. He tore his eyes away from her and looked down at his arm. It would work, right? Because... he really didn't want to be the only one in the class who didn't have some sort of animal hair on their arm. Plus it looked really very awe--

...

HAIR! FUR! HAIR!

Being quite the hair enthusiast -- did they SEE the hair that sprouted from his scalp? -- there was every reason why the boy was HAPPY with this growth. He did register that other boy asking how long the potion was meant to last but he was too busy grinning down at the growing crup hair on his arm to care. This hair... looked a lot like Chip's golden fur. Maybe he really was destined to be blonde.

... Sigh. He wanted to be blonde again.

Once it had stopped growing, the Hufflepuff reached out a hand and stroked the fur. Carefully. Gently. Stroooooooke, pat pat. ... Also. Questions were being asked. Did he have any questions? For once, not really. He was far too happy with this small bought of success. He did, however, look up and over at the Head Boy. Hair reasons, you know.

After waiting for a short time, Annabeth's arm was covered by yellow and black scales. It was much like the butterfly wings. She was proud of herself and smiled looking at her arm. "How beautiful it is! It's amazing!!!" Then she asked the teacher "Professor Lafay, may I keep a sample of my potion? I'd like to use it the next quidditch match against Slytherin..." She grinned. This thought took her headache away. Maybe professor Lafay wouldn't like it, she didn't care about it, Anna was a proud Hufflepuff.

Cruppy fur.

She had some. It was growing right out of her arm. It was soft and lightly colored and weird. Most definitely weird. It was sort of cool too considering she'd been interested in magical creatures and how their fur/hair differed from non-magical ones. And how the fur/hair helped keep them warm. And just...this was a good way to experience it first hand, or...first paw.

Adi wasn't paying much attention to his own arm as he was busy marveling at the others. Anna had black and yellow butterfly scales, Ella had some kind of fur and others had feathers like he would soon... oh! Not soon! He had a patch on his hand right now!

How cool this was! Adi shook his hand, still unable to believe this was actually happening. This potion was so awesome!

"Alright... Homework." She said petting her own arm, "Write me a three paragraph note on how and why you would use this potion in your day to day lives. Due in one week."

She said and began cleaning up, and then said... "What are you waiting for, Dismissed... The effects wear off in an hour..."

Whaaaaaat.

Kat stared at Professor Lafay's arm, which was growing KNEAZLE HAIR. That was creepy, and now she was starting to feel something grow on her arm. White feathers. Those of Chase's feathers, exactly the same colour. The Head Girl started at her arm. Yep, this was actually creepy. It wasn't a potion she would recommend anymore, nope.

"Alright... Homework." She said petting her own arm, "Write me a three paragraph note on how and why you would use this potion in your day to day lives. Due in one week."

She said and began cleaning up, and then said... "What are you waiting for, Dismissed... The effects wear off in an hour..."
Okay, cool. This was an interesting lesson. Kat scribbled on her parchment about the homework. Eh... it wasn't so understandable but whatever. She'll rewrite it later and update the Notice Board for her housemates. She fixed her bag, shoving almost everyday inside it. They weren't going to use a sample of it then? Alright. Kat honestly didn't want to have owl feathers ever again. She wasn't fit to be an animal, that's for sure. Except a cheetah. She'd be a nice cheetah.

She cleaned her work station before leaving and then slung her bag on her shoulder. "Thanks for the lesson, Professor. Have a nice day ahead," Kat said and then turned to leave. So... she was going to class with owl feathers on her arm then? Sweet.

Blair didn't have to wait too long for the potion to start taking effect. She could feel a strange sensation beginning at her wrist and travelling up her forearm. She watched in amazement has vibrant orange feathers began to poke it from her skin. They really were quite fascinating she thought as she gave them a little stroke.

Blair stopped and paid attention to the Professor's final instructions. So the effects would only last for an hour? That wasn't too bad. Although she liked the feathers she did not fancy having them all day. Blair took note of her homework and then packed away her belongings. As she made her way out of the room she turned to the Professor and said, "Thanks for a very interesting lesson, Professor. Goodbye."

Oh, only an hour. Good. That wasn't too bad! Caleb smiled and began to pack up his things. His crup fur would be gone before his next class! He grabbed his bag and went back to the door, turning to face his gran before he left.

"Bye Professor! Great lesson...see you later!" he added with a smile before he exited the classroom.

Hecate waited for the last student to leave... then she looked at her kneazle and said "Mephisto, I'm going to lock you in if you don't come out..." And the cat like creature huffed and made his way out too. She closed and locked the door behind her.
