The entrance to the Ravenclaw Common Room is different from all other doors: there is a plain expanse of aged wood and a bronze knocker in the shape of an eagle.

Knock once and the eagle will open, and a soft musical voice will ask you a question so that you may gain access to the common room. If you answer the question wrong, you will need to wait for somebody to get it right.

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Qaz answered, 'It is a continuous circle, with no beginning or end.'

Phoebe walked happily up to the common room and stopped in front of the aged wooden wall. There was only one other girl there. Phoebe smiled at her. "Hi," she said. Them she faced the wood and frowned, thinking about the question. "Hmm..well, I think that it is a circle that winds on forever into space...it has no beginning and no end." she said. She blushed as she realized the other girl had said almost the same thing. Then she turned to the wall again and waited for an answer from it.

Kai faced the wood, lost brefly in a deep thought, then as if struck by lightning she lifted her head and smiled "Actually, although it is a continuous circle and yes a phoenix has no beginning nor an end, you have to consider the Phoenix is not born from a flame but an egg, so yeah, the phoenix came first" She smiled.

James walked up to the aged door with the brass knocker on the center. A few people were already there, but he still heard the question.
"It's a continuous circle," he though was the obvious answer. He then heard Kai say her answer. "But doesn't the flame give the Phoenix it's life?" he asked her.

"yes the phoenix is born from a flame, but it's hatched from an egg first" she smiled "I read ALOT of books"

James hesitated. He then shrugged and smiled to Kai.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." he said.

That is correct.

Not born, but from a Mother's body drawn, I hang until half of me is gone. I sleep in a cave until I grow old, then valued for my hardened gold. What am I?

"Are you..." Austin had to think for a moment. "A piece of cheese?"

Sahrina walked up to the wall. "I agree, a peice of cheese." She said matter-of-factly.

That is correct.

The thunder comes before the lightning; the lightning comes before the clouds. The rain dries everything it touches.

"This one's a little tough," said Issy as she scratched her chin, staring at the door. A few thoughts went through her mind. The first was rain, but obviously it couldn't be - rain dried nothing. The next, she thought perhaps the sun's rays, but that just didn't seem to fit with the rest. And then, suddenly, vaugely rememberng from primary school, it came to her.

"A volcano?" she asked.

James thought hard for a moment. The only thing rain could dry would be something extremely hot. Just before he answered "magma", Issy said a volcano. Seeing as his answer was just the same, he agreed with her.
"I got the same answer," he said.

Saylie scratched her head, this one was tough. "Could it be reversed? Like time flowing the opposite direction?" She knew that thunder was caused by lightning, so it coming before it didn't make any sense.
