Adam opened the door to the Potions Dungeon Classroom, then returned to what he was writing on the board.

Potions Lesson Three

Designing a potion to soothe burns

Turn to page 34 in your textbook, page titled 'designing and creating your own potions'

Adam waited for the class to arrive.

OOC: I was meant to do this whole class today, but I'm going out instead so this class will be held over the next few days. Please don't spam in my absence or ask 'where'd the professor go?' because Adam is in the class all the time even if i'm not online. First lot of instructions will be up in 15 minutes.

Diabolica hurried into the Potions room. "Hello, Professor," she said, smiling. She sat down and took out her textbook.

Jai walked into the potions classroom this was by far one of her favourite subjects. She took a seat near the professor but not too far up and opened her text book to the given page.

Qaz found a spot in the back of the room and pulled out her textbook, parchment and quill.

Adam smiled as the students began filing into the classroom. When most of them had arrived, Adam stood and walked around his desk to lean on the far side.

"Today class, we will be creating and developing a potion from scratch. What we want our potions today to do is to soothe and cure burns, so the ingredients you select need to be appropriate - no chillies, anyone" Adam said, smiling. "You can work in groups of 2 or 3 to create your potions, but I will be making sure that everyone contributes to the process.

What you can do first is get into groups of two or three, and start researching possible ingredients you could use in your potion. I'm here if you have any questions" Adam concluded.

OOC: Will be back in about 5 hours. Play nice!

Agie strolled in and sat in a seat towards the back of the class. She pulled out what was needed wand waited for the class to begin.

Ryan sprinted into the room with a heavy heart, her hair going from bright pink to a chestnut brown, as neon wasn't really the colour to be wearing in the dungeons. Potions may not be as bad as Arithmancy, but there were still plenty of things to knock over. She took out her textbook and quill, sighing.
She hoped Jackie could come, and maybe Laylee. Then they could cause more mischief, preferably more than even in the Transfiguration lesson. She got a malicious glint in her eye as she envisioned some of her plans.

Ali stepped into the room. it was time for Potions, one of her favourite classes. She heard the professor talk about getting into groups to create a potion. She looked around the room and hoped that someone would pick her to be in their group.

Jai smiled and looked aorund so far she was sitting by herself and noone seemed to make a move towards her. Shrugging Jai took out her cauldron and began thinking about the typ of ingredients you could use to soothe burns.

Ryan frowned, before deciding that she'd have to get on with it eventually...but she didn't know anyone here.

An ointment for burns,cool, Mystie thought. She took out her text book, parchment,quill and ink.
"Today class, we will be creating and developing a potion from scratch. Ali looked at the girl who introduced herself as Agie and smiled. "Sure." Ali felt happy inside. Someone she didn't know had asked her to be in their group.

Ryan frowned, before deciding that she'd have to get on with it eventually...but she didn't know anyone here.

Since Lauren's friends had decided not to take Potions this year, she scanned the room for someone looking for a partner or two. Setting her eyes on a younger Hufflepuff who looked both disappointed at their task and uncomfortable that she didn't know anyone, Lauren got up and strode over to her.

"Hi," she said with a smile. She put her hands on the desk in front of her and tapped her fingers lightly. "I'm Lauren. I'm not all that great at coming up with my own Potions from scratch, but would you want to work together?"

Qaz was at a bit of a loss on how to proceed. She had always used Aloe Vera for minor burns. Perhaps they were looking for a solution to more severe burns. Hmm...

To help them out a little Mystie took out her favorite muggle herb book called "The Herb Book", and turn to page 63 for list of herb that can be use for burns, and read the list out loud. 'Let see, there is aloe, american elder, basswood bennet, bittersweet nightshade, burdock, calendula, chickweed, coltsfoot comfrey, common plantain, cucumber, gum plant, hound's-tongue, houseleek, lady's mantle, olive, poplar (all), pumpkin, quaking aspen, st. johnswort, sweet flag, wild daisy, willow (all), and witch hazel.

{OOC: DontCallMeNymphadora, I don't want to rush you or RP for your character but, as this part of the class is only open for 5 hours and I don't know how much time I'll have later to RP, I'm just going to assume that your character, Ryan, accepted and is now a part of my group. :) I hope that's alright!}

Settling herself down next to Ryan, she hoisted her bag onto the desk and retrieved a quill, a well of bright orange ink, several sheets of pale yellowed, wrinkled parchment, and her Potions textbook. After clearing her desk of her bag, she turned the worn pages in her Potions book until she reached page 34. Then, she set up the other items in front of her and, dipping her green feathery quill into her vat of ink, she poised herself to write.

"So," she began, tickling her chin with her quill, "what ingredients would you think ought to be included? I was thinking essence of Murtlap as one of them, as it is extremely effective in relieving all sorts of pain," she said, scribbling Murtlap essence - would relieve pain on her paper. Then, she added, "I think we ought to find one or two more ingredients that could be used to relieve pain, and then focus on the external issues. You know, like the actual healing of the burns."

Antwone looked to Qaz who was going over something in her mind.

"Hey! You want to partner up?"

Katelyn looked over at Antwone and Qaz.
"Hey, can i be with you two?" she asked, and she was really trying to be cheerful Extremely hard. But she didnt exactly know if she was succeeding or not, but she thought she was doing alright.

Jezz waved to Antwone and said, "Hey, wanna be my partner?" She didn't know anyone else in the room except Qaz and Katelyn. "Hey, nevermind, you guys worked together." She looked around the room for partnerless people.

Ari felt stupid, she was standing there beside Agie who seemed to not hear her. All around her everyone was pairing up, she hoped she didn't have to do this by herself. Looking around, she knew the others were watching her, and she shrugged before turning around."Guess I'll be alone today." she mumbled under her breath as she sat down sighing.

Katelyn looked over at Antwone and Qaz.
"Hey, can i be with you two?" she asked, and she was really trying to be cheerful Extremely hard. But she didnt exactly know if she was succeeding or not, but she thought she was doing alright.

Jezz waved to Antwone and said, "Hey, wanna be my partner?" She didn't know anyone else in the room except Qaz.

"Well, we can only be in groups of two or three," Antwone began to say to the two of them. "So I think to make it fair we should pair off to each other. Since I asked Qaz first, and if she's okay with it, I'll pair up with her and you two can pair up with the other," he said, pointing to Katelyn and Jezzabell.

Jezz nodded. "Okay, sounds good to me." she secretly wished that she would be with Antwone, but you can't win them all. "Is that good with you?" she asked Katelyn, keeping the disappointment out of her voice.

"Thats fine...but I'll work with Qaz if you like? I mean...you and Jezz would make a great group! Think of the potion you two could make!" she said, giving Jezz a small grin. She didnt want Qaz to feel bad, but she wanted Jezz to work with Antwone.

"Hello there Ari, I'm Antwone, a first year, and this is Jezzabell, also a first year," Antwone said, pointing to himself and Jezzabell.

Torie looked around the classroom, her red hair shining faintly in the light. Her blue eyes sparkled as she examined her classmates. 'Hmmm,' she thought to herself, 'It seems as if everyone is pairing up.' She decided to sit back for a moment to see if someone was without a partner.

Christian smiled lightly. His hand was still bandaged from his burn that he had aquired from Transfiguration class. His flower had exploded into flames and put a line right across his hand.

He sat silently in his chair. He was a little slow in asking people. He wondered if there was anybody who was free.

'Well, I've always used Aloe Vera for minor burns, like sunburn. I've heard of other home remedies like oatmeal paste, or soaking in a tub of cool water with vinegar added....but who want's to smell like a salad.' Qaz replied with a chuckle. 'What about you?'

"Engorgio!" whispered Torie as she pointed her wand at the quill on her desk. Instantly, it grew almost twice as long, enabling her to use it as a prod. "Pss...Ravenclaw" said Torie as she gently tickled the injured boy on the back with the tip of quill. "Do you want to be my partner?"

Ariana nodded at Jezzabell and said, "I've seen you around, just never got to introduce myself." she smiled again and turned to Antwone, "Col name, very original. She set her Potions book down, "I heard the aloe plant is very good for treating burns and other ailments." Ari said, "Um peanut butter also works too, though it's messy. I don't think cwe want the potion to msell of peanuts, and I know there's people allergic to them." she replied.

Torie looked around the classroom, her red hair shining faintly in the light. Her blue eyes sparkled as she examined her classmates. 'Hmmm,' she thought to herself, 'It seems as if everyone is pairing up.' She decided to sit back for a moment to see if someone was without a partner.


Amelia jotted down the last couple notes on their current assignment. She felt slightly slow today, which was most likely due to anxiety. There seemed to be much more going on this year, and she was confident that it would only get worse with higher levels of education.

At long last, Amelia flicked her long red hair back and looked around the room for someone she knew. She frowned though when she saw her usual partners were already paired up, but then brightened at the sight of a Gryffindor who she thought she remembered from the Quidditch team. She walked over to the young girl, who appeared to be around her age and smiled. "Hi! I'm Amelia, and erm... do you need a partner?"

Christian was peering around the class when he felt a slight tickle in his back. It was a gryffindor prodding him with her quill. Quite a large quill at that. He sniggered slightly as the girl tickled him, and smiled at her.

"Hehe...sorry. I'm slightly ticklish." He said laughing. "Sure, I'd love to be your partner. Name's Christian by the way." He said holding his hand out for her to shake.

He turned to the Ravenclaw girl that had just asked him to join their group. "Uhm..I think I'm with her." He said pointing to the gryffindor.

Having started a bit of a list, Lauren continued writing down any ingredient that popped into her head that could be helpful in the potion. She knew of quite a few different potions and the "effective" ingredients in each, and this knowledge was what she was tapping into when she was brainstorming ideas. Still, she couldn't use all of them - she and Ryan would have to narrow it down to only the most effective ingredients. She thought two for pain relief, one for texture, and two or three for physically healing the burn would work, but she wasn't sure. As she had said to Ryan, she usually isn't very good at creating potions on her own.

She lifted her head to the front of the room, although her gaze was rather glazed over. She was thinking of that fourth ingredient known to cure boils. It was something with porcupines ... teeth? No, that was snakes. Shoot, she thought, wrinkling her brow. And then, yes!, she remembered! Her mouth crinkled into a proud smile as she bent over her parchment once more and scribbled porcupine quills -- cure boils at the bottom of her list.

Qaz nodded when the Ravenclaw boy said he'd partner with someone else. 'Okay Katelyn, looking through the book, I've found that Essance of Murtlap works with wounds, so it might work on burns, too. What do you think? Maybe if we mix it with Aloe Vera and some rubbing alcohol...if they have that around here.'

Amelia then realized that Torie had also asked a Ravenclaw boy to be partners, "Erm, you're working with him too, right? Cause all we need now is a Slytherin and we got some real house unity." She chuckled to herself as she flipped to the designated page in the textbook.

Jezz smiled, "I think we should use peanut butter, aloe vera, and something magical, like murtlap. Mom always used murtlap when we got burned." She blushed, unsure if they'd like her idea.

[Antwone Thomas]

"Neosporin works really well too," Antwone said to Ari and Jezzabell. " My mom used to use it all the time if we didn't have aloe vera on had. What is neosporin made out of? I know pramoxine is the active ingredient that cools the burning. And I agree with you Jezzabell, we should use something magical in case of a, well, magical burn."

Christian looked back from the Ravenclaw girl to the now two girls in front of him. There was the gryffindor and now a hufflepuff. It's amazing how fast they multiply...he thought and shrugged. Oh well, the more heads the better.

"Shall we get cracking? So far all I know is that Aloe is awesome for burns. I should know." He added smiling and holding up his hand. "I may need some of this potion later." He finished laughing.

Torie laughed, the sound surprisingly loud in the din of the classroom. "Ya, that'd be awesome!" she agreed. "So, Ravenclaw, I'm sorry. I didn't catch your name. I'm Torie, and this is Amelia."

"I read that there ar certain plants, such as elder leaves, St. John's-wort, garden mallows, which cure burns. We could use them too, though I don't think professorErikson has any around, and they're all Muggle plants too. My mum used to use them on me when I was younger." Ari said with a smile. Finally something from her past could be useful she thought.

Ryder sat there scratching notes on his parchment.

"Shall we get cracking? So far all I know is that Aloe is awesome for burns. I should know." He added smiling and holding up his hand. "I may need some of this potion later." He finished laughing.

Torie nodded her head in agreement. "Sure, sounds great. About the aloe thing, I use it all the time when I get sunburned. It really works. My nana swears by vinegar though, so maybe we could put some aloe and vinegar in it? What do you guys think?"

Amelia noticed the Ravenclaw boy looking at her and Torie. I don't think I want to know what he's thinking... but whatever it is, he ain't getting it. She just shook it off and blinked a few times to clear her thoughts.

"Huh? oh yes... yes. Aloe is rather useful for burns, but er - what happened to your hand?" Amelia questioned the boy, not knowing if it was personal.

'Well, I've looked through my list of ingredients and other than stuff for boils, I can't think of anything else to add. It should make a good topical salve. I wish I could find something that's a good general pain reliever, but I don't think we'd be allowed to use Muggle concoctions.' Qaz noted. 'Do you think we could get ahold of poppy plants and brew our own morphine. Add it to some fire whiskey, or even butterbeer. That would make a potion with some kick into it.'

Jezz looked over and say Ryder writing notes. She wanted to say hi, but she wasn't sure he remembered her. they had only talked for a little while that one time, and it was in that disasterous pootions class. She turned back to Ari, "We could always ask, that's a good idea."

Katelyn grinned.
"Yea, thats fine. I think its a good idea. We should definately try it!" she said. Potions wasnt really her thing, so she hoped Qaz would understand if she did anything wrong. She could follow directions and stuff well enough, but creating her own potion was pretty hard for her.

Christian nodded along with the others in his group. He wasn't much of a potions person and could really use all the help he could get. He smiled at the Hufflepuff.

"My name is Christian by the way," he said answering the Gryffindor's question. "And it was nothing much. We were making flowers in Transfiguration class and mine kinda burst into flame." Looking down at her list, Lauren was satisfied. But still, it felt lacking in one area: she needed something else to act with the Essence of Murtlap to relieve any pain caused by the burns. She brought the feather of her quill to her chin once more, waving it back and forth as she sat staring into space, thinking hard. It ought to be a liquid, since she had far too many solid ingredients on her list. And it ought to work pretty fast. She seemed to remember ... what was that called? Essence of something, but not Murtlap, and she was pretty sure it healed as well as soothed. Essence of ... bugger. And then, just like "porcupine quills" popped into her mind unprovoked earlier in the class, so did this. "DITTANY!" she exclaimed rather loudly, causing many members of the class to turn and look at her. Her cheeks turned a shade of burning red, and she ducked her head down in order to hide her flushed cheeks. While she was there, she grabbed her quill, dipped it into the ink well once more, and scratched this ingredient and its uses onto her parchment to finish off her list.

Slippery elm poultices known for treating inflamed, or irritated skin and minor burns and Witch Hazel decreases inflammation and soothes sunburns. I would think of possibly including all of these."

"This is just my opinion, but I like to make my potions with as few ingredients as possible. If we can make a potion that does what we are being asked with as few ingredients as possible, not only will it be easier to make, but we will cut down on the possible side-effects and bad interactions the potion ingredients might produce. Qaz made a quick run to the dorm to get the ingredients they needed for the salve. When she got back, she started mixing the ingredients in her cauldron. First the Aloe Vera, add some essence of Murtlap and just a bit of rubbing alcohol. She stirred it into a smooth creamy texture.

The juice that is inside, when squeezed to make it ooze out onto the burned area, is most effective if the plant is at least 2 to 3 years old and the stems have little bumps on the edges. Aloe vera is a species of aloe, and is a stemless or very short-stemed succulent plant that spreads by offsets and root sprouts." she swallowed and read on a bit more, "The sap from the Aloe vera plant is helpful because it eases pain and reduces inflammation, which are quite common with burns. Some say that the beneficial properties may be because mu-co-poly-sacchar-ides," she sounded it out as she went, "present in the inner gel of the leave, especially acemannan. Aloe vera gel is also said to be helpful in treating dry skin conditions, especially eczema around the eyes and sensitive skinned areas."

She looked over what she just read and summarized it in her own words, "Basically Aloe vera would be a good ingredient to go into the burn relieving potion based on the fact that the mucop- mucopolysaccarides" she said the word slowly, "inside the gel reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain, which common symptoms for burns." she finished, a bit embarrassed that she had just said so much when she could have simply summarized.

Another one is St. Johnwort. The oil extract can be used for burns, wounds, bruises and other stuff. My book says the herb as calming properties.

Lauren raised her hand, discreet frustration flaring in her eyes. She was so bored with such drama that had been popping up in all of her classes. Couldn't people just control themselves and keep their mouths shut?

Having finally been called on, she scanned her list. "Professor, Essence of Murtlap ... or Murtlap tentacles, as they are the primary ingredient in Murtlap Essence ... may be an effective ingredient in our potion, as it relieves pain. As someone already said before me, Essence of Dittany would be fantastic as well - it heals wounds completely and immediately, as well as relieving pain."

She paused, thinking about whether she ought to go on or stop and allow others to answer. The house point hourglasses popped into her head though, so few emerald gems to so many red, yellow, and blue stones ... Slytherin needed points, so she couldn't let herself care that she may be taking other people's answers. Determination replacing the look of slight anger, she put a finger to her list to mark her spot and continued.

"Also, I thought about Bubotuber Pus. When heavily diluted, it is able to heal acne completely. I wondered if it would, perhaps, be able to heal all skin blemishes, including burns?" She checked her list. "I'm not sure if this would be wise, but I thought about making the potion into a spreadable, topical paste. To thicken the potion, I think Flobberworm Mucus would be great. Wow, Excelsior thought, impresssed. "Well, that pretty well sums it up. I definitely agree that the best form for this particular potion would be that of a paste, so that it could be spread over the burn easier and be more effective." He thought the girl's answer was excellent, and hoped that Slytherin would get more house points. He had been trying to think up as many ingredients as he could, just trying to help.

"There is this muggle stuff called neosporin," Antwone began. "I know pramoxine is the active ingredient in it that relieves pain, perhaps that could be used in our potion but I believe it is a muggle-made product."

Antwone looked over to Jezzabell who seemed to be trying to start something with Cassandra.

"Don't mess with her lot," he whispered to her.

Jezz looked at Antwone and blushed. She had been purposely antagonizing Cassandra and Antwone knew it. "I won't" she said, hoping he wouldn't notice her crossing her fingers behind her back.

But any ways, I have essential oils of Lavender(pale yellow), German Chamomile(deep blue), Tea Tree(pale yellow-green), extract oil of St. Johnswort(red), and Aloe Vera Gel(clear). We also have access to Powdered Cockroaches, and Flobber Worm Mucus.'

She noticed a few people glaring at her and others. "Hey Ryan sorry Im late! I had to pee really bad, and there were no stalls open!" she whispered, laughing at herself.
She gave the teacher an apollegetic look and got her books out..

Cassandra raised her eyebrow... her lot? Cassandra was fuming, but Dresden was watching them. she wasn't going to give the Ravenclaws the satisfaction of making her stupefy them all, and losing points to boot. Although... Dresden was part of her lot...

Lauren raised her hand, discreet frustration flaring in her eyes. She was so bored with such drama that had been popping up in all of her classes. Couldn't people just control themselves and keep their mouths shut?

Having finally been called on, she scanned her list. "Professor, Essence of Murtlap ... or Murtlap tentacles, as they are the primary ingredient in Murtlap Essence ... may be an effective ingredient in our potion, as it relieves pain. As someone already said before me, Essence of Dittany would be fantastic as well - it heals wounds completely and immediately, as well as relieving pain."

She paused, thinking about whether she ought to go on or stop and allow others to answer. The house point hourglasses popped into her head though, so few emerald gems to so many red, yellow, and blue stones ... Slytherin needed points, so she couldn't let herself care that she may be taking other people's answers. Determination replacing the look of slight anger, she put a finger to her list to mark her spot and continued.

"Also, I thought about Bubotuber Pus. When heavily diluted, it is able to heal acne completely. I wondered if it would, perhaps, be able to heal all skin blemishes, including burns?" She checked her list. "I'm not sure if this would be wise, but I thought about making the potion into a spreadable, topical paste. To thicken the potion, I think Flobberworm Mucus would be great. Excelsior wasn't going to start any trouble, that wasn't his style. If someone wanted to mess with him he would be ready to get back at them, just when they least expected it. He never forgot anything, he thought to himself, glancing in the direction of the troublesome girl.

He turned his attention back to the discussion at hand. He thought all the potions ingredients that had been suggested thus far were very good ideas. He thought the Slytherin students were showing great initiative.

Mystie being rather disappointed that other still want to cause problems. She was hoping that they would stop and work on ideas for the burn potion, That is why she tried to make it one big group or class effort with ideas of stuff you have with you or access to.

Thinking that she well give one more try she looked through some potions and notes, and came up with one more idea. 'Crocodile eye, it as antiseptic properties'. Look through some more notes, 'Leech juice also thickens potions.'

Jackie had been sitting next to Laylee, but hadn't said anything. She was feeling a little paranoid in the stuffy dungeon. She had listened to Ryan talking to some of the other students, mostly Slytherins. Jackie saw the first year Slytherin boy who had talked to her very briefly in Transfiguration, so she smiled weakly. She'd been doing nothing but taking notes so far, feeling a little tired and lazy.

Torie considered the list of ingredients carefully. So far, aloe vera, murtlap essence, and something called dittany had been suggested. She also heard briefly about peanut butter, which caused her to chuckle to herself. That was almost as obsurd as her nana's vinegar remedy, but it could possibly work. Torie thumbed through her books, hoping to find an ingredient which would be a valuable contribution to the potion.

Torie tucked her red hair behind her ears with one hand as she absentmindedly brushed her chin repeatedly with the tip of the quill pen held in her other hand. She frowned to herself, a deep line appearing across her pale skinned forehead. Suddenly a half-remembered conversation popped into her mind, and she raised her hand.

"Professor, what about thymus oil? I remember my mom talking about it with my aunt. My cousin's friend was badly burned and this is one of the new treatments they have been investigating recently. My mom was saying that Thymus oil decreases the amount of nitrous oxide produced by the body of someone who has been burned. This decrease in nitrous oxide promotes the formation of new skin in burn patients."

AJ had been flipping through her book, feigning looking at it, and listening to the arguments going around her. She rolled her eyes and heaved a big sigh, then finally opened her mouth, "People, I'm not sure about any of you, but personally I'm not a fan of losing house points, and if I have the capability of stopping points from being lost, I'll stop it. Now kindly shut up before Professor Dresden gives you all detention or takes away points!!! Your fighting is pointless and is accomplishing nothing!!" she said, her voice raising a bit, particularly glaring at the Hufflepuff girl who seemed to think that she was better than everyone and didn't need to be in this class.

Qaz thought she'd try again, 'Essence of Murtlap is used to heal wounds, so it would probably work well on burns, too.'

Cassandra raised her hand "Dittany, professor... aids the healing without leaving a nasty scar." She said.


"Wow you sure know alot about ingredients and i agree with you, the burn-healing paste might not be very powerful, but once the other ingredients are added it might increase the characteristics of the paste. And i think we should use the chamomile instead of the lavender, since it is chamomile is more commonly used in herbal medicine."


Lavender Essential Oil

Aromatherapy Applications:
Use primarily for healing burns, sunburns, and some infected wounds. Can also be used for headaches by inhalation and applying to the temples.

The oil is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a sweet, floral-herbaceous scent and balsamic-woody undertone. It is used as a fixative in perfumery and blends well with most essential oils.

"Take five points each you guys" Adam said smiling. A few other students had good suggestions, including muggle peanut butter. Adam's stomach rumbled as he thought of a peanut butter toasted sandwich.

"Once your group has decided what ingredients you want to use, and remember that trying to cram every ingredient known to man into your potion isn't the best idea, you can start making your potions. Make sure you work together, and decide what order you want to add your ingredients. I will circle through the class to answer any questions you may have, but I shall stress again that there is no right or wrong way to do this... it's entirely up to you"

Mystie not sure what happen to her group( Jai and Diabalica), she look around to see if she could see them, they where no where, maybe they went to the restroom she thought, shrugging her shoulders. I can not sit and wait for them, so she sat and worked on the potion. She well use the essential oils she has of lavender, tea tree, German chamomile, not sure of aloe though. She made some note and thought and made more notes etc.

Lauren stood over her cauldron, a look of mild disbelief on her face. They were just going to throw ingredients into the cauldron, not knowing if they would react badly {if they reacted at all, that is} with each other or if they would be harmful, and hope for the best? This didn't seem ... well, it didn't seem a lot of things to Lauren as she stood with her fingertips on the rim of the pewter cauldron, the first of all being safe. She had a right to worry about her safety, especially in a class where one wrong measurement could do serious damage. But still, Professor Dresden wouldn't give them an assignment that would be dangerous to their health, right? So Lauren took a deep breath, unfolded the list of possible ingredients that she had been playing with, and started to make some decisions.

Well, to start, Murtlap tentacles, which are a major ingredient in Essence of Murtlap, would be great for relieving pain. She estimated two full tentacles would be enough. She took her list and wrote "POTION," underlining the word harshly, on the bottom of her page of notes. With her list of potential ingredients written above, she scribbled her plans down.

She really wanted to try the diluted Bubotuber Pus, to see if the acne treatment truly would remove any type of marks on the skin. This may not heal the burn, she thought, but it would definitely remove any scarring that the burn would typically leave behind. Perhaps just a drop? Lauren thought this would be good, so she added this to the list of steps she would take.

The Essence of Dittany would be extremely important to heal and soothe the pain of the burns. One would typically pour more than a few drops directly onto a wound to heal it ... so how much should she use? Standing hunched over, leaning her forearms on her desk before her and her quill resting lazily in her hand, she thought. Since this was going to be mixing into a solution and would probably be weakened slightly, she chose to add more than just a few drops. "2 milliliters of Dittany" was scratched onto her list as well.

Now to the items that would cure boils. She wanted to use one, but she didn't know which. They were all quite basic and would surely be effective ... but which? She decided to choose the one that seemed the strangest to work with - if she had learned anything about the world of wizardry by now, it was that sometimes the least enjoyable thing would be the most effective. So she added, "Stewed horned slugs {3}" to her list.

She decided that, after adding all of these ingredients, she would stir delicately and then leave the potion to simmer for approximately 20 minutes to fuse all of the added items together and to encourage them to work as one. After this, she planned to add Flobberworm mucus to thicken the potion into more of a spreadable paste. This way, all of its effects would go straight to the burn - it wouldn't be necessary to pour a runny liquid all over the wound, nor would it be needed to ingest the potion for it to work. She figured that stirring in about two cups of mucus would thicken it to the desired consistancy. For good measure, she added one porcupine quill to the bottom of the list to aid in healing the burn.

Having her list all squared away, Lauren was satisfied. She left her station by her cauldron, her partner remaining seated to be sure nothing unwanted was thrown into it, and walked confidently to retrieve the necessary ingredients.

POTION.
1) Drop two full Murtlap tentacles into cauldron. Do not chop, stew, or freeze these before adding.
2) Immediately after, add one drop of diluted Bubotuber Pus. BE SURE the pus is diluted!!
3) Stir for 2 minutes.
4) Add 2 milliliters of Essence of Dittany. Measure carefully.
5) Add 3 Stewed Horned Slugs {preferrably, pre-stewed}.
6) Stir carefully and respectfully for 3 minutes, then allow to simmer for 20 minutes over purple flame. If a substitution is necessary, blue flame may be used, but for 15 minutes instead of 20.
7) Stir in 2 cups of Flobberworm mucus.
8) Fold into paste one porcupine quill {not crushed}.

Ariana set up her cauldron, not feeling much like participating anymore. She was hurt inside and didn't like it. At least professor Dresden didn't say anything about peanut butter and she gave a small smile which she quickly hid as she began to take notes.

Looking to her teammates, she asked, "So, should we use peanut butter in it? Be diffrent from everyone and show them we're not strange?" she took out a small jar with three tablespoons of the stuff from her bag and put it on the table. "I always carry some in case I get hungry." she said as an explaination. She looked through her notes and then again at the cuboard, wondering if she should get the Murtlap.

She pulled out her other textbook, Herbology and looked up a few plants. "Well, if they don't have the aloe plant here, then I think someone should run off to professor Erikson and ask him. Because that's definitly an ingredient we need.' She knew she was taking charge, but she was oldest here, more learned in this class. "We'll have to get permission though." she said, looking up at Dresden.

She was determined to show those Slytherins shje was better than nothing. An she wanted to prove to professor Dresden she was more than a brainy know-it-all like some people thought. She could be calm and kind, but get on her nerves and watch out. And that Slytherin girl Cassandra was definitly getting on her nerves. Shaking those thought from hre mind, she got a sudden idea.

"I'll be right back." she said softly, getting up and walking over to the professor. She looked up at him, her bronze eyes sad looking. "Taking a deep breath, she asked whispering to him so no one would hear, "Um proefssor. Is it possible to run off to the Herbology greenhouses and get some herbs?" She asked, hoping no one would come up behind, "I would like to use some elder leaves, St. John's-wort, garden mallows, which can be made into a paste which I can than add to the potion." she explained.

Ryan looked around, hoping that someone else would come up with an idea. She always worked hard....but she was better with things that took imagination and fun guesswork, not careful measuring and spending time thinking logically about things, which was probably the reason that she hadn't become a Ravenclaw.
'What about chocolate? This is the sort of stuff I can do, the emotional side of things. If you've been burnt, you're bound to be feeling low and all. So chocolate contains seratonin, which is that "feel good" ingredient, right? This sounds crazy, I know, but I'm just....thinking. And it's not something I'm too good at, mind. I'm better at tripping over'. She shook back her hair, turning it midnight-blue as she did so. 'And maybe some Felix Felicis, so you wouldn't get burned again? Joke, joke...'. Maybe this class wasn't as bad as it seemed. She turned to the people she had been making fun of. 'Sorry about what I was saying. As you can see, I'm not getting any better ideas, really. I'm just....bored, and I get restless when I'm bored. Short attention span and all that. Plus I LIVE for making trouble, for some reason. All in good fun and all that, but I was out of order then'.

So she did what she usually did at times like this.. opened her potions book, pulled out her 'How To Fix Your Injury' book she'd got at the muggle library and started reading, hoping that her friends would come up with something..

Aloe Vera
Essential oils:
Lavender
Tea Tree
Chamomile (Germen)
Crocodile eye
Powder Cockroaches
Leech Juice

*Bring water to a slow boil.
*Add one-tablespoon Aloe Vera gel
*Add five drops each essential oil: Lavender, Tea Tree, and Chamomile and stir 20 times, counter-clockwise or clockwise, it does not matter.
*If you used German Chamomile your potion should be a deep blue or a very deep blue-green. Other wise it should be a yellowish-green
*Add one sliced crocodile eye.
*Stir clockwise once and counter-clockwise three times and simmer for 10 minutes.
*The potion should be a turquoise colour (If you used German Chamomile) If not the color should be green
*Add 50 grams of powdered cockroach
*Add leech juice by squeezing one leech into the cauldron and stir in an unpredictable fashion
*Keep stirring until potion should thickens (within 5 minutes)
*If potion does not thicken after 10 minutes of stirring, add another leech and continue to stir unpredictably until thickened
*If potion has still not thicken after an additional 10 mintues, start another brew

Note
This potion is good for burns, cuts/sores and insect bites.
You can make it a spay as well, just leave out the leeches

"Sorry Laylee, I don't know anything about Potion making... I think we should put lots of Aloe Vera in, that's in lots of muggle cleaning stuff isn't it? It might help clean an injury or something..." said Jackie, knowing she wasn't making much sense at all. She bit the end of her quill nervously, Ravenclaws were supposed, to be smart! She didn't feel very smart at all... She plucked a few feathers from her quill, absent mindedly dropping them on the floor.

Excelsior saw that everyone was already paired up in groups so he had no choice but to leave the classroom, hoping he would be able to catch up by doing the homework assignment later.

'Well, yes...but we add in a bit of chocolate, to make the burnt people feel better! Always works for me! Does anyone have any chocolate? I do, but it might not be enough!' she laughed, pulling out a bar of Honeydukes' Best Chocolate. 'Picked it up a couple of weeks ago and never got around to eating it. So, onto the ingredients that will actually help...hang on, where's that Excelsior Black going? I hope I didn't hurt his feelings....anyway, onto it. Aloe Vera, Camomile oil, Dettol....okay, maybe negative on the last one. I'm fresh out, unfortunately!'.

"Ooo! I have some handcream with Aloe Vera in it!" said Jackie, feeling stupidly excited about hand cream. She took out the hand cream and stood it next to the cauldron, hoping it didn't have any dodgy ingredients in it...
"I think you're right about the choclate, put the whole bar in!Although actually you might want to give half of it to me, just in case eh? eh?" Jackie giggled, her hand edging towards the chocolate on the table.

Ryan snatched it away, grinning evilly.
'Hey, not so fast! How about a quarter in the cauldron, a quarter for you, a quarter for Laylee and....nah, I'll just have it all!' she joked, before putting it in. 'Mmm, hand cream...so exciting, isn't it? Now then, I've no idea what I'm doing, so I say we just shove EVERYTHING in'.

"Everything! My quill!" she cried, throwing her quill into the cauldron and laughing manically.

"Do you think we need that much?" she asked, tucking some hair behind her ear. She grinned. "Chocolate?" she asked, raising an amused eyebrow.

'Okay, so the chocolate isn't really necessary, but if you just been burned, a little comfort food would most welcome.' Qaz said with a smile. 'Do yu think the Murtlap and Horned Slug are redundant? Maybe I should remove the Horned Slug?'

"Yes, remove the horned slug. Murtlap does the same thing, doesnt it? And what about the honey? I dont think we need that much," she comment, looking over the paper Qaz had drawn up again.

Katelyn looked it over, and nodded in agreement.
"Yes, it looks very neat and oranized and good, Qaz. I'm sorry i havent been much help...my minds just elsewhere," she apologized, and blocked her mind from thinking about Dans predicament right now. "I think it looks good now, but i hope it doesnt look liike everyone elses. I want it to be very unique," she said with a small smile.

Laylee watched as they threw stuff in the potion they were trying to brew, and even though Laylee would never say it, getting good grades was a big deal for her. Im mean she is a Ravenclaw after all. She just couldnt think of anything to put in this potion... If she ever got burnt Sebastian would just lick her hand, and the burn wouldnt go away, but it would make it feel so much better.

Now back with her ingredients, Lauren dropped each one carefully onto her desk and straightened them into a line, organizing them in the order that they would have to be used. First came the two Murtlap tentacles, sticky with preservation gel and the common slime of seashore dwellers. She placed these onto a square silver plate where they sat, ready to be used. Some of the jelly on the tentacles had transferred to her hands, so she grabbed a rag and wrung it between her fingers. She looked away at her list, but did a quick double-take; she could swear that one of those tentacles just twitched.

Mentally shaking herself out of her thought {it couldn't move, duh!}, she moved on to the next ingredients. A small, black bottle of Bubotuber Pus was positioned directly to the right of the shiny dish. It had a bottletop that doubled as a dropper, which would be very useful come time to use it.

She had to stir after she added the pus, so she laid a long wooden spoon onto her chair for this purpose. After stirring, she would add 2 milliliters of Essence of Dittany. This came in a jug, and she sat to steadily measure this amount out into a graduated cylinder. Then, she transferred this into a wide-mouthed vial and, muttering a simple spell, suspended the rounded vial in the air next to the bottle of pus.

Luckily, she was able to find stewed horned slugs in the Potions cupboard that had already been prepared. She pulled out another silver plate, placed these down upon it, and placed it down on the table next to the Dittany.

The Flobberworm mucus was a sight: it was in a plastic sort of container with a simple lid, but it rippled and rolled around in the jar as if it couldn't bear to be contained within any longer. Lauren was a little scared to handle the mucus, but she swirled the lid from the jar and, using a small metal spoon, scooped out two cups of the substance into a bowl. This was set on the table too.

Finally, Lauren plucked from her pocket a small, folded swatch of white cloth. She unfolded the fabric, revealing the tiny, pointed porcupine quill nestled inside. She dropped this onto the table along with the rest of the ingredients - now, she was ready. She took a deep breath, glanced warily at the tentacles {they appeared to be lying still}, straightened her robes, and began.

"Hmm... what about Essence of Murlap or whatever it's called? That's good at relieving pain and helping wounds heal!" Jackie said to Laylee and Ryan, glad that she could finally say something useful.

Now that Qaz and Katelyn had decided on the formula, it was time to make the concoction. They prepared the required amount (one half a cup) of Aloe Vera, a rather messy procedure, put it in the cauldron and lit the fire. The tablespoon of honey was added to the cauldron, stirring until it was a nice smooth liquid. Then a teaspoon of Essence of Murtlap was added and the mixture was stirred 7 times counter-clockwise. Next came the teaspoon of Tea Tree Oil, carefully stirred 14 times clockwise. The fire was extinguished and the preparation was allowed to cool.

"Yeah ok, so how do we know how much?" she said thankful for hearing ideas.

Mystie having a couple of spray bottles decided to my her burn potion a spray. She took out her two green spray bottles set them on the table along with her Aloe Vera gel, Essential oils, stuff she needed from her potion kit, and set up her cauldron. Then she went to the cupboard and got Crocodile eye and Powder Cockroaches, came back set them on the table in the order she was going to use them, put some water in her cauldron, light a fire under it and sat back until it starts to boil.

'Erm...we get as much as we can and chuck it in?' Ryan suggested, peering into the mud-brown concoction that appeared to have the texture of wet sand. 'Ew. Oh well, a lock of my magical metamorphmagus hair? So be it!'. She grabbed a pair of scissors, and paused. 'What colour do we go for? Sparkles, pink, rainbow maybe?'.

[Madfish]

Jackie laughed, the dropped a sloppy pile of Murlap Essence into the Potion. It turned slightly yellow, making the colour even more repulsive.
"Eew..." she cringed, leaning backwards.
"Hmmm... we need something to change the colour Ryan, what about... blue? Can you do blue?"

[Antwone Thomas]

Jezz smiled when Ari pulled out her peanut butter. "That sounds good to me." then she pulled out the jar that she always had with her, "Now the question is, Creamy or Chunky?"

"Smooth," Antwone answered. "Now who will write up the way we make the potion? I can write it up if you all like."

Ryan nodded, laughing.
'Blue it is!' she enthused, grabbing a pair of scissors and cutting off a lock. Within seconds it had regrown. 'Hang on...there aren't going to be any icky side effects, are there? I mean, there's a part of me inside it. It'll be one gorgeous potion, no doubt about that, but will it work? Let's find out!'.
She dropped the blue hair inside, waiting for a reaction.

Jackie giggled at Ryan's comment.
"A smelly Potion more like, joking joking!!! You smell lovely," she giggled, watching Ryan drop the hair in.

Laylee watched as the potion bubbled slightly blue. She really hoped this would work, she didnt want a bad grade. (of course she didnt) "Someone said Essence of Dittany! Maybe we should add that!"

'I'm not sure whether to hit you for being so strange..."You smell lovely", really...or thank you...' Ryan laughed. The potion bubbled, turning a blue-ish colour. 'Well, whether I smell nice or not, I sure do look nice! Although the bubbling I could do with out...I don't walk around followed by a loud bubbling noise, do I?'.

"Yeh essence of Dittany! Is one of us writing this down?" she asked, looking around for a piece of parchment. She got up and walkd over to the Store Cupboard, looking for a particular label.
"Here it is!" Jackie picked up a bottle of Essence of Dittany and running back to pour the contents into the Potion, which turned deep purple.
"Oooo that's a nice colour... I don't think you're followed by bubbly noises Ryan, but that can be arranged!" Jackie made a bubbling sound, covering her mouth.

"Yeah Im writing it down." Laylee said to Jackie.

Mystie's water started to boil so she put in one-tablespoon of Aloe Vera gel, five drops of Lavender oil, five drops Tea Tree oil, and five drops German Chamomile and stirred twenty times counter-clockwise. It was a nice deep blue with a little touch of green. She let it sit for a few while she sliced up an crocodile eye, and them add the sliced up eye. She then stirred clockwise once, and counter-clockwise three times, then let it simmer for ten minutes.

"Smooth," Antwone answered. "Now who will write up the way we make the potion? I can write it up if you all like."

"Would it be okay if you write it out?" she saked, playing with her quill, wrapping her pink strand of hair arund it. "I'm terrible at writing out potions, I an barely make them. I'm better with magical creatures." she added chuckling at herself.

"Yes, I'd love to," Antwone said, starting to write. "Starting now."

"Great! I'll wait until you're done before starting." she said with a smile.

Antwone finished writing and showed what he wrote to both Jezzabell and Ari.

Burning-Soothing Potion

INGREDIENTS
- Aloe Vera
- Peanut Butter
- Essence of Murtlap
- Essence of Dittany

DIRECTIONS
1. Cut off three inches of the aloe vera skin and set it aside for later. Take the rest of the aloe vera and cut it into small pieces and place it into a cauldron of boiling water (3 cups).

2. Wait forty-five seconds for the aloe vera to set into the water before applying two teaspoons of peanut butter.

Stir counter-clockwise seven times (color should be murky green)

3. Prepare a cup and a half of murlap essence in a separate vial and add it into the cauldron immediately after the peanut butter.

Stir clockwise seven times (color should be murky-deep turquoise)

4. Prepare only a vial full of essence of dittany and place it into the cauldron which should have turned a color of transparent tan.

Let the potion sit and brew for two minute intervals of fourteen stirs for fourteen minutes. Freeze it and then warm it up to room temperature when ready for use and don't forget to apply the potion onto skin along with the aloe vera skins you have set said, which should also be frozen and warmed like the rest.

Cassandra looked at Ryder's blank face, rolled her eyes and took out parchment and quill.



Ingredients

7 Marigolds
1 cup of Witch Hazel
10 drops of Lavendar oil
1 Aloe Leaf
5 leaves of Plantain
1/2 cup of brown sugar
2 tbls of baking soda

Directions:

Crush the Marigold with a marble morter until they are fragrant and wet.

Put on your protective goggles and dragon hide gloves.

Slowly simmer the witch hazel in the cauldron, adding the crushed marigolds.

With a wooden spoon give three clockwise then one counter clockwise turn. Repeat 3 times.

Add the 10 drops of Lavendar oil making sure you do not look into the cauldron.

Take a silver knife and cut the aloe leave at a 90 degree angle. Squeeze the gel out of the leaf and into the cauldron.

Slash the Plantain leaves with the diffindo charm, careful not to fully cut them. Wring them out letting the juice from them drip into the cauldron.

Add brown sugar and baking soda. Again turn three times clockwise then one counter clockwise, repeating until the mixure is a paste.

She showed her parchment to Ryder. "Tell me if this looks alright." she asked him a little annoyed he always made her do his work.

'Okay, just so we're all clear, it's quite obvious that at the moment, I haven't written anything down. Has anyone else? I mean, look at everyone...they're all practically finished! Oh well....' Ryan shrugged, laughing. She threw a couple of roses, which she had kept in her pocket from the Transfiguration lesson, into the mixture. 'At least it'll smell nice'. The potion turned a frothy black colour. 'Disgusting! How about some.....rainbow, this time?' she suggested, cutting off some rainbow-coloured hair and dropping it in the potion. She grabbed her quill and some parchment.

Ari grinned, "Prefect Antwone." she said happily. "Should we gte started? It looks like it shouldn't take too long to brew up." she added, turning to look at Jezzabell also.

"Excellent Ryan! Your hair will make it well nice..." said Jackie, looking for a quill.
"Laylee, I'm borrowing your quill because I dropped mine in the Potion, if you don't mind!" Jackie announced, then began writing.

"Hmm... I am so bad at spelling! I'm really not sure about most of the words in here... oh well! I'll go and read a Dictionary later..." she muttered, examining the words which looked a little wrong.

Ryan laughed, before taking the quill.
'Leave this to a writer-extraordinaire!' she giggled, before hastily scribbling down the correct recipe.

"Oh my macaroni, is that how you're ment to spell it?" Jackie asked, comparing her spelling to Ryan's. "I better correct this..." She picked up Laylee's quill again and started scribbling out all of the miss-spelt words on her recipe.
"I am definately reading a Dictionary... oh no! sorry I spelt Metamorphthingy wrong! I can't even say it... sorry Ryan," Jackie laughed at Ryan's comments on what she'd written, realising that her english skills were a bit behind...

'Many people can't. There's an arguament going on about whether it's pronounced "Meta-Morph-Mah-Gus", "Meta-Morph-Mah-Jus" or "Meta-Morph-May-Jus". I say it the first one, it rolls off the tongue quite easily,' she mused.

"I always say it the first way, mah-gus sounds better to me... I wonder what effects the hair will have in the Potion, will it make the drinker blue or multicoloured?" asked Jackie, happily imagining Layle, herself and Ryan all with blue hair.
"I need to get some blue hair dye," she thought out loud.

ARi got up and moevd to the coboard where the ingredients were stored. She opened it and frowned, looking at the diffrent bottles with a slight frown. She spotted the Dittany and picked it up, opening a small bottle and filling it with the desired amount. Being careful not to drop any, she closed the small bottle and put it in her pocket before looking for the murtlap.

Finding it she did the same, then closed the cuboard and walked back to the their seats, where she put down the two bottle.s "Here, "she began, "I filled these two with murtlap and Dittany so we don't need to go get them. I couldn't find any aloe vera though." she finished with a frown,

"There is some aloe vera on the grounds and peanut butter in the kitchens so we'd have to get those later," Antwone said, smiling to Ariana as she sat back down with the dittany and murtlap. "Do you reckon we're supposed to start brewing now?"

Ryder turned a little red. "I just wasn't one hundred percent sure so..." He scratched his quill on the parchment in front of him. "But that looks good." He said looking at Cassandra adding more to her parchment. "I think that would work." He said nodding.

"Alright then... The ingredients are in the Potion's Master's cupboard, can you get them while I start the caudron?" She said giving him an urging look. She scurgified Ryder's cauldron of any debris from earlier classes and set a low blue flame under it using Incendio.

"Sure I can do that." said Ryder standing up. He walked towards the potion's cupboard with the list of everything he was supposed to find in there. He pulled out ingredients from the list.

[Droo]

Cassandra read over the instructions she wrote out and once Ryder returned she followed them. "Accio Marble Morter." She called and the morter came flying to her. She began crushing the marigolds. "Can you start pouring the witch hazel into the cauldron?" She said as she was mashing, "And don't forget!" She added "Gloves and goggles..."

[ShaneCollins]

"Right.." He said. He took his wand out "Accio Goggles." He put his goggles on and then some gloves. He looked at Cassandra. He felt like an idiot in the goggles and gloves. He half smiled at her.

He took the witch hazel and slowly poured it into the cauldron in front of them. "Alright then." He said looking to Cassandra.

[Droo]

Cassandra watched the witch hazel simmer and she added the fragrant flower mush. "Ok..." She took the wooden spoon and stirred 3 times clockwise and once couterclockwise and then repeated three times. "Do you want to add the Lavander oil or cut the aloe?" She asked Ryder.

He looked at her. "I'll uh... I will work with the lavendar." He said putting his goggles back over his eyes. "Ten drops..." He said looking at her. He remembered not to look into the cauldron. As he added the ten drops.

[Droo]

Cassandra took the silver knife and cut two aloe leaves at a 90 degree angle. She then proceeded to queeze the gel out of the leaf and into the cauldron. She watched as the goo melted into the concoction.

OOC: Sorry I haven't been around lately, between work and family commitments I've had zero free time.

Adam walked through the class, peering into the occasional cauldron to check on progress. Most of the class's potions looked like they would do the job required.

Returning to the front of the class, Adam raised his hand for silence and said "Good work so far everyone. When you feel your potion is ready, bottle a sample and deposit it on the desk here, clearly labelling it. I will write the homework instructions on the board shortly, but if you finish before homework is set please spend your time cleaning up"

Cassandra nodded to the professor. She took the Plantain leaves and cast the diffindo charm. Little cuts slashed themselves into the waxy green leaves. She took them into her hands squeezing and wringing them out, until the juice dripped into the cauldron.

"Alright... now we wait half an hour and then you can add the mertlap and the vitamin E while I add the brown sugar and baking soda." She said moving a strand of hair from the front of her face to the back of her ear. "Then you can stir it, bottle it and bring it to the professor."

"Oh yeah your right! Only I dont think that you can make yourself smell nice?" she said thinking out loud. She realized how that kind of sounded like she was insaulting her "I dont mean that you smell bad!" she said laughing. Laylee was glad to have the potion done. She didnt really see how their potion would cure burns and she hoped they still got a good mark...

Ryan laughed, starting to clear up.
'Ah, that's where the wonders of Muggle deodorant come in, Laylee!' she chuckled, her hair going back to brown with sky blue streaks, always a favourite style of hers.

He put the goggles back over his eyes and dropped the vitamin e and the essence of murtlap into the cauldron. He looked at Cassandra. "One more step..." He said half smiling. "If you add the brown sugar and the baking soda, I'll bottle it up and hand it in." He said cleaning up some of the ingredients that they had already used and no longer needed.

Cassandra carefully added the brown sugar and baking soda, stirring it and turning the concoction into a paste. She turned out the flame and gave Ryder an empty bottle. "Thanks for the help Ryder." She said cleaning up.

ooc: I suppose we RP as though we have all the ingredients

"Ariana are you sure you looked through the cupboards thoroughly for the peanut butter and aloe vera?" Antwone sat up as he walked over to the cupboard, "Here's the aloe vera and I see the peanut butter over there." he pointed towards a cabinet on the other end of the classroom with peanut butter inside it. Once he grabbed a jar and sat back down with all the ingredients. "Alright then, who wants to boil the water?"

Torie took a moment to get her notes in order. First, she needed to decide which of the many ingredients they had discussed should be included in their potion. She looked down at her notes.

List of Possible Ingredients:
*aloe vera
*dittany
*murtlap essence
*lavender
*thymus oil
*egg whites
*vinegar

Torie pondered for a moment. Which of these ingredients was proven to be useful in treating burns specifically? She turned back to her textbook and her list, crossing out any ingredient not directly suited for treating burns. This left her with aloe vera, murtlap essence, lavender, and thymus oil. She added flobberworm mucus to the list in order to provide a thickener for the potion.

Satisfied, Torie put down her quill and began to collect the ingredients for her potion from around the room. She carefully prepared everything before starting the actual potion. As she worked, she wrote down the actions she was performing.

Burn Potion:

1. Take one stem of fresh aloe vera. Chop into small chunks and add to cauldron. Add enough water to immerse the chunks. Set cauldron to boil.
2. Once cauldron is boiling, allow aloe to reduce down into a pulpy gel. Add 5 mL murtlap essence and stir carefully until mixed. Reduce flame so potion simmers.
3. Allow potion to simmer and reduce for approximately 5 minutes, stirring continuously. Potion should appear a bright greenish-yellow colour at this stage. Once the alloted time has passed, turn off the heat and quickly add 2 drops of thymus oil and 5 drops of lavender oil. Stir vigourously until potion is well mixed.
4. Allow potion to cool. If potion is not stiff enough to spread on the skin, add enough flobberworm mucus to reach desired consistancy.
5. Store potion in a cool, dark spot. Potion may be stored for up to 2 months.

Once the potion had cooled, Torie sat back and examined it critically. Torie breathed in the faint smell of aloe and lavender that was wafting towards her from the bright green gel in front of her. It looked good to her, but would it actually work?

Torie momentarily debated testing the potion herself, but was reluctant to give herself a burn just to test her potion. She wished Christian was nearby, but she had somehow lost track of him in the bustle of the busy classroom. Resigning herself to her fate, Torie took a small sample from the cauldron and placed it into a flask, sealing it with a cork. She took the potion up to the front and gave it to the Professor.

Walking back to her desk, Torie felt pleased with the amount of effort she had put into this class. She believed her ingredients to be well chosen and relevant, and she felt sure the potion would act in the desired manner. Quickly and quietly she cleaned up her work area. She then sat down and waited for the Professor to assign the homework.

Qaz added 3 Tbs of rubbing alcohol to the potion while Katelyn prepared the bottle. Qaz stirred the potion until smooth and then pour it into the bottle. After Katelyn had labeled it, she brought it up to the Professors desk.

Cassandra carefully added the brown sugar and baking soda, stirring it and turning the concoction into a paste. She turned out the flame and gave Ryder an empty bottle. "Thanks for the help Ryder." She said cleaning up.

Ryder took the bottle from Cassandra and put some of the potion in the bottle putting the cork on to seal it inside. He labeled the bottle. He walked to the front of the classroom and put the bottle on the professor's desk. He walked back over to his table to help Cassandra finish cleaning up.

Jezz started a flame under the cauldron to get the water boiling and started to add ingrediants according to the instructions they had come up with. She looked at Antwone. "Can you pass the peanut butter?" She was sweating slightly from the steam coming off of the potion.
