The building used for the Gobstones matches had had its doors closed against the beginning of summer summer hear. Its surfaces magically dusted by Professor Tanner and Mr. Kitridge, the school's Gobstones sponsors, and made ready for the term's championship match.
The yellow and blue marbles were set out and the playing 'field' had been marked. Chairs were set out on each side of the arena creating a Viewing Area (http://www.snitchseeker.com/gobstones-club/gobstones-viewing-area-100712/) for those not playing.
OOC: Remember only members sorted into Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw Houses can post in this thread, it is not a chat thread and there is no RPing.
Read the Gobstones Rulebook (http://www.snitchseeker.com/gobstones-club/gobstones-club-rulebook-93273/) before playing and if you did last term, please check again for potential updates and changes.

Leo had arrived early to this match, wanting to make sure the room wasn't riddled with cobwebs. As he entered, he left the door a little ajar to let the warmth from outside air out the room. Taking his wand out he began the process of removing all cobwebs within sight.
Eventually the teams and fans began to arrive. When the start time was upon them, Leo cleared his throat loudly to get attention. "Good morning and welcome to the Gobstones Championship Match for this term, pitting Hufflepuff against Ravenclaw. Shall we begin? Players take your places!"

Marching out with the shooters for the first roll of the championship were third year Thornton Baines of Ravenclaw and first year Torie Yenorin of Hufflepuff. The two boys fiddled around with the shooters until Mr Kitridge gave the signal to shoot. They swung their shooters simultaneously and watched their stones take off. The yellow stone rolled quickly past several obstacles until it smacked right into a new one. The hit was hard enough for some smoke gob smell to ooze out. The blue stone surpassed its opponent and two more obstacles for the points.
Wrinkling his nose against the smell Leo declared. "The first point of the Championship match goes to Ravenclaw!"

Torie and Thornton left the court and handed over the shooters to Penelope and Aditya who were eager to give the shooters a go. The two swung their shooters and kicked their stones forward. The blue stone rolled quickly past two obstacles before it abruptly lost speed and stopped. The yellow stone easily surpassed it's opponent and made its past two series of obstacles before it stopped for the points.

Wright and Rehman remained on the court. Adi seemed to have picked up some sort of luck with his next roll. He was getting his house's stone closer and closer to the Ravenclaw's stone, and the goal in extension. "3 points to Hufflepuff at the end of the first round. Hufflepuff leads 5-1 as we head into the second round!" Leo declared.

After a short break Adi came back out onto the court to face off against fellow senior Eden. The two swung their shooters and kicked at their stones. The blue stone rolled quickly around the first obstacles but then it just suddenly stopped and oozed out a giant splash of smelly gob in the direction of the team benches. The yellow stone surpassed its opponent and rounded a few more obstactales for good measure before it stopped.

The eagles changed players as Penelope headed out for another go, taking the shooter from Eden. Adi on the other hand remained on for the badgers. The two swung their shooters and kicked their stones forward. The blue stone rounded a series of obstacles before it lost speed and stopped. With more speed the yellow stone surpassed its opponent and a few more obstacles before it stopped.
"2 points to Hufflepuff!" Leo announced from the sideline, while he used his wand to clean his clothes from gob.

Adi remained on for the badgers while the eagles tried a new card in TiaMarie Mancini. The two swung their shooters and kicked their stones forward. This time both shooters remained, Mancini and Rehman. Both marbles began with sufficient speed, but.. "Points to Hufflepuff," Tiara declared. The yellow stone had just barely beaten the blue one, though Tiara had definitely had to bend down for a closer look. Ravenclaw needed to pick it up.

Finally, both sides sent out new players: first year Yenorin for Hufflepuff and second year Guidry for Ravenclaw. Yenorin sent his stone rolling first, bouncing off an obstacle and coming to rest a mere inch from the goal. Guidry's roll had to be perfect, and it was - it knocked the yellow stone to the side and shot gob into the Hufflepuff's face.

McGee and Rehman took the turns for their houses. It seemed that Ravenclaw had finally figured out that they actually needed to score points in this game. The blue marble left no chance for the yellow as it came to a halt a hair's breadth from the Jack Stone. "Point to Ravenclaw!" she proclaimed. Good, now they weren't embarrassing themselves.

A miscommunication seemed to be plaguing the Hufflepuff side. While Penelope stepped up and took her roll for Ravenclaw, Tiara continued to wait for the badger contestant. "Points to Ravenclaw. Hufflepuff, please try to speed up the decision process!" If they weren't careful, Ravenclaw would make a giant comeback.

It was fresh recruits for both sides in the form of third year Thornton Baines for Ravenclaw and Prefect Aditya Rehman for Hufflepuff. The badger was up first, but his roll hit an obstacle and went careening off to the side. All Baines had to do was put his stone reasonably close, which he did with ease. Putrid gob squirted from both gobstones onto the badger.
"Heading into the final round of the championship match and the score is Ravenclaw 10, Hufflepuff 14. This is for all the marbles!" Tiara chuckled at her own joke, even if it was surely very corny.

Sophie Brown was up next to take on Adi Rehman. Her blue marble took on the nearest obstacle and skirted just to the side, but it ricocheted off another and stopped a good foot from the goal. Adi's managed to come closer, but not much. "Point to Hufflepuff!" This was getting good. Ravenclaw could still tie if they won the next two rolls.

While Aditya Rehman took another turn, second year Kate Addison stepped in for Ravenclaw. This was truly a pressure roll; if Ravenclaw didn't win it, they could kiss the trophy goodbye. It was another close battle, but Ravenclaw prevailed, bringing the score to within two points. "Fourteen to twelve, Hufflepuff leading. What a match!" she said with glee. Yes, she wanted Ravenclaw to win, but she was loving the high level of competition and would be just as happy to see Hufflepuff prevail.

Penelope Wright versus Aditya Rehman, the pressure roll that would determine the championship. Adi's roll showed no sign of being affected by nerves, as it sailed around obstacles and landed about six inches from the Jack Stone; there was room for improvement. But Penelope's roll couldn't beat it, as it hit the side of an obstacle and shot off to the side. "Points to Hufflepuff!" she proclaimed.

The last encounter between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw was concluded by the facing off between Rehman and Addison. Both players did their best in this last turn with their shooting. The blue stone raced towards the goal and was the first to touch the Jack Stone, causing Mr Kitridge to start applauding a little too enthusiastically-- not because Ravenclaw had gotten the last point of the match, and because it was finally over and they would all go back to their headquarters to eat some well deserved food.
"Hufflepuff wins!" He announced, clapping lightly, "Great game Ravenclaw, you were fantastic as well. Thank you everyone for watching and taking time out of your leisure time to enjoy this championship match today. Today's player of the match is Aditya Rehman, thank you for your dedication to the game." He flashed Adi a big smile. "Off you go to your common rooms for hanging out with your housemates or even studying for your end of term exams." Leo ushered everyone out, out, out.
Final Match Standings:
Hufflepuff 17 points - Winner!
Ravenclaw 13 points
Player of the Match: Aditya Rehman.
