The first you see is the fishing gear hanging on pins left of the doorway. The librarian is a bit fishing obsessed so he has brought some fishing equipment if time lets him explore the great lake’s fishing possibilities. The next thing you feel is cozy warmth emanating from the roaring fire place nearby. Remembering the chilliness of the halls and rooms in the castle from his years here Mr Kitridge has taken steps to see too that at least one place is warm and comfortable. In the center of the office you see what should be a desk under all the stuff currently placed on it like charts, crammers, stacks of books, an odd telescope or crystal ball and last but not least a big bowl of candy. Behind the desk, a large comfy chair with a pillow in it is situated.
Hanging on the walls around the office are portraits of former notable librarians like Madam Pince, Madam Rowena, Angela Kohan, David Kapoor and Madam Donovan. The collection of portraits/photographs is completed with some Kitridges who've been successful in some way or other through the course of time. No office of a librarian is complete without a curvy s-shaped bookshelf.
OCC: I will not have an arrival thread so please don't clog up the thread with 'waiting to enter' posts. Have your character knock on the door and then wait for Mr Kitridge to allow you to enter or to come back later. If you have any questions or want to set up a meeting don't hesitate to PM or VM me.:)

Gabriel had many, MANY things to discuss with his Head of House. Not HOUSE things, ironically...but their new writing venture this term. He was determined to make it a success...and with that in mind, he'd made his way to the library.
Bypassing the gaggle of girls at the front desk...Gabe went straight to Mr. Kitridge's office door and knocked. Someone was popular this term...

Busy was the right word for the day. Leo felt like he had been up on his feet and doing stuff around the library since before breakfast. He had taken note of the girl's waiting for his assistance at the front desk but he desperately needed a break, some coffee and a sandwich before he went out to help them. Thus he bypassed the front desk and headed straight for his office, where he found Gabriel standing on his doorstep. Pulling a hand through his curly mop of hair he said a smile pursing his lip albeit a weak one. "Good day Gabriel, care to come in for a sandwich?" unlocking his door with the use of his wand he waited for the prefect's answer.

Oh, Mr. Kitridge hadn't been in...as he'd just appeared from behind. Well...it was early. So...that was understandable. Gabriel hadn't considered him possibly being busy.
".......Yes, sir. Thank you." Was now a bad time?

Opening the door Leo gestured for Gabriel to step in ahead of him. He followed behind the senior eagle closing the door behind them. His white kneazle Madonna could be seen as they headed inside, perched ontop of his Leo's desk sleeping. Leo went over and gently stroked her behind the ears before he got to work making some roast beef sandwiches in his little improvised kitchen.
Plating the sandwiches he gestured for Gabriel to take a seat in one of the plushy armed chairs that had a side table in between them. Pouring himself a cup of coffee he asked "Would you like tea or apple juice with the sandwich Gabe?"

Benzi'd had a stroke of genius last night.
He could talk to KITRIDGE about this. No need to bother Professor Dakest yet. Nope. No need. This was a Head of House thing. Because while, yes, Dakest was an Auror, Kitridge was the one tasked with handling all these questions and suggestions and thing.
And if Benzi mucked things up it wouldn't be too bad in front of his Head of House. Yes.
He knocked three times on the door, adjusted his bag over his shoulder and waited.

Taking a seat, he eyed the animal....momentarily uncomfortable by it. Gabriel wasn't a fan of creatures. Ever.....but....he'd have to deal. It wasn't the end of the world...and Mr. Kitridge seemed to have sufficient control over it. Maybe.
It didn't look like it was going to jump on him and eat his face, at least.
"Tea is fine...thank you.".....he remembered to add. There was nothing to do about his eyes continuing to meet the kneazle, though.

Eden just...felt the need to talk to Mr. Kitridge like...ASAP...especially since the feast and...
Yeah.
Her embarrassing behavior/remarks. Which, she did want to apologize to Gabe for, but she...was having a hard time swallowing her pride at the moment. And she was a little afraid of the reception of such an apology.
But here she was, because she was just...sigh. She was down and not feeling herself and while outside sources were nice, she wanted to talk to an adult...in school. And one who was more readily available than Iwin or Emmalee or her parents.
Plus, Mr. Kitridge wouldn't...try to lecture her or anything.
ALL THE SIGHS.
She knocked.

With the library set for the morning rush after the first classes had finished Leo had retreated to his office to catch up on some paperwork and personal correspondence. His white kneazle was playing with a ball of yarn on the floor when there was a series of knocks on his door.
Saying a few choice words over the big blob of ink that now stained his letter to Piers he went to answer the door. Sticking his head out, he smiled warmly at the boy standing on his doorstep. "Hello Benzi! Would you like to come in and talk?" Leaving the door open, he expected the eagle to follow him inside and close it after him.

Fixing a cup of tea for Gabriel, Leo catered it and his own coffee mug over to the side table as he took a seat in the plush chair opposite Gabriel. Taking a sip from his long awaited coffee he nodded thoughtfully. "I wondered when you’d show up. It’s been quite a few years since we last had an active Quill newspaper. We need to hold a meeting with all those interested in writing for the school paper. Are you feeling up to the task of managing the paper?" He hoped it wouldn't be too much for Gabriel to take on outside of his studies and prefect duties. Leo supposed only time would tell.

After enjoying a nice lunch in Cassie's company Leo had worked tirelessly for a few hours assisting students with this or that around the library. He had dusted off some shelves and had even had time to re-shelf the bookcases closest to the Stained Glass Windows. He was heading back to make himself a glass of well earned lemonade in his office where he ran into Eden on his doorstop. "Afternoon Eden, want to come in for a glass of cold lemonade?" Leo queried as he unlocked his door with the use of his wand.

Eden glanced up when she heard the impending footsteps--but it was just Mr. Kitridge. Oh good. Heh. He had good timing. Her brain somewhat calmed down, too, when he spoke.
"Sure. Regular lemonade or PINK lemonade?" Not that Eden cared, she was just curious was all. She didn't prefer one over the other, either. Pink lemonade tasted kiiiiind of different. Just a little.
Hmph.
"How are you doing today, sir?" she asked politely, waiting to follow him inside.

Tea. Yes, thank you. Gabe hadn't realized how thirsty he was...and drank deeply from the cup once it was placed in front of him. After thanking Mr. Kitridge, began answering the questions.
"I feel well prepared." Thanks in part to all the volunteer work he'd done over summer break. "...and I'm confident in the writers I've asked. So, it's making me feel better about this whole thing."
Pausing to take a bite of his sandwich, he chewed in silence; thinking about how best to ask without giving any insecurities away. After swallowing..."What are your thoughts?"

"Yes please sir," Benzi nodded, and followed his head of house inside the office. There would really be no other reason for him to be here otherwise. Trying to think up those other reasons as he closed the door, he figured he'd come here too if there was a house emergency of sorts. Though, then he'd probably be a bit more animated.
Never mind. Going to sit, Benz started as he noticed the kneazle in the room and narrowed his eyes at it. Stay away from me, cat, he warned it mentally, then dropped his bag unceremoniously on the floor and sat.
Right. "So, professor, I've come to talk to you about my OWL scores..." kind of. "Do you have them? I have a copy," he said, and made to grab said copy from his bag.

He was cheerful as he carried a tatter copy of an old muggle spy story. He hadn't started it yet, but the title rung true enough.
Diamonds ARE forever.
Cutty pulled up to the front of the door and pressed his mouth against it. "Knock, knock." His muffled voice vibrated against the hardwood surface of the door. "Are yew in there, Mr. Kitridge? It's Cutty."

Hmph.
"How are you doing today, sir?" she asked politely, waiting to follow him inside.
"Pink lemonade," Leo echoed curiously. "How does that taste?" Maybe Eden could arrange a lemonade testing activity in the common room? But now he was totally going off topic. Unlocking his door and pushing it open as he signalled for Eden to follow him inside he answered over his shoulder while walking. "I'm doing quite lovely Eden, just a little parched and in need of something cool to drink." As they came inside his office, where his kneazle was notably absent Leo asked "How are you doing today Eden?"
Moving over to his little improvised kitchen he got two glasses and the big bottle of lemonade. Sitting down in one of the plush chairs to the side of his desk he gestured for Eden to take the other. Pouring lemonade into a glass for the senior eagle Leo asked. "What brings you to my office? Do you need a book recommendation?"
"...and jI'm confident in the writers I've asked. So, it's making me feel better about this whole thing."
Pausing to take a bite of his sandwich, he chewed in silence; thinking about how best to ask without giving any insecurities away. After swallowing..."What are your thoughts?"
Drinking a few mouthfuls of tea Leo gathered his thoughts as he studied the seventh year boy sitting across from him. "I just want to make sure that you are well prepared for the job of managing the newspaper as well as keeping up with your studies and prefect duties. I don't want you to get overwhelmed." He had a right to worry and think forward. Starting up a newspaper that had been on ice for 11 years was probably not an easy task.
Eating some of his sandwich Leo swallowed it down with some tea before he continued. "I saw a list of who you've asked to become writers for the paper. They seem to be a reliable bunch. What made you ask them? Did they show interest in writing articles?"
He ate in silence for a few minutes before he asked the probably most important question given Gabriel's background and personality. "Are you up to the task of delegating articles, talking at staff meetings and interviewing people for articles etc?"
Never mind. Going to sit, Benz started as he noticed the kneazle in the room and narrowed his eyes at it. Stay away from me, cat, he warned it mentally, then dropped his bag unceremoniously on the floor and sat.

Leo watched his kneazle play around on the floor for a bit before he focused his attention on Benzi who seemed to have been eyeing his familiar too. "Do you have any pets Benzi? I've had my kneazle Madonna for a numbers of years. She is a sweetheart."
The boy quickly cut to the chase and brought up the reason for his visit. Nodding Leo said "I think I might have skimmed through it briefly. Your mother included a copy of them in the letter she sent me if i recall correctly. What do you want discuss about your OWL scores? What subjects I think you should continue taking or dropping?" It was a though question to answer given that Leo didn't know what Benzi planned to work with after graduation. But they'd get to that when he got to see the scores.
He was cheerful as he carried a tatter copy of an old muggle spy story. He hadn't started it yet, but the title rung true enough.

Cutty pulled up to the front of the door and pressed his mouth against it. "Knock, knock." His muffled voice vibrated against the hardwood surface of the door. "Are yew in there, Mr. Kitridge? It's Cutty."
Leo was trying his best to create some order in the book chaos that was his office when he was interrupted by first two distinct knocks and then the muffled voice of Cutty Mordaunt. Surveying the chaos Leo shook his head and went to answer the door.
Pushing open his door he smiled at the senior snake standing on his doorstep. "Hello Cutty! You'll have to excuse the book mess. I'm trying to find some books that may or may not have been lost in the last book shipmet I got earlier in the week." Turning on his heel, Leo expected Cutty follow him inside and close the door.

Gabe didn't answer right away, as that might've seemed suspicious and hard to believe. Or over-eager. When someone thought about what they had to say before saying it...it was just much easier to swallow as 'the truth'. And his Head of House was being kind and thoughtful. That helped a great deal
"Thank you for being kind. It is a lot to take on, I will admit...but I feel confident I can do it. I feel well prepared."...and yes, confidence wasn't something Gabriel Banner was known for...but preparation was another story. Gabe could understand the concern, however. He had had a panic attack in the middle of the library once.
Drinking a bit more of his tea, the Ravenclaw considered the next question. His picks were odd ones, considering who he was and his general affiliation with other people...but some of them were obvious. "I wouldn't do something like this without Toby or Hugh...or my sister." The 'or my sister' bit was added in a much lower tone...but it was just as true. Gabe was learning it wasn't shameful to admit you needed people...and he needed those three, specifically. "By association, I considered Sophie and Grayson next. Sophie Brown is a brilliant writer...and is the best choice for spotlighting Professors and students, alike."...and he could not believe he was about to say this next..."...and while Grayson acts ridiculous, he's also very smart...at Potions." Also, Ruby had him under her thumb. So, it was a win/win.
"Jenna Hensley was recommended by Ruby, since she's such good friends with Jenna's brother."....and that just left Eden. Why HAD he chosen Eden? After her attitude towards him at the feast, it didn't make a bit of sense...but he'd made these selections before school had started back. So...the choice came before the isolated incident. "...and Eden McGee is a team player. A lot of people like her."
It was said in the nicest way possible.
"I don't think delegating will be the issue, sir." If he asked nicely and used the 'please' word, surely it would be easy enough. According to people like Evie Shacklebolt. "...and I can hold conversations with professionals...and interview people, as I do that for Yearbook." IF he could owl his questions. Questioning someone face to face...was a different story...but Gabe didn't need to say that out loud. It surely went WITHOUT saying.
He refocused on his tea.

So. You know." Eh, if you liked pink, it was cool. Eden was pretty neutral for the color. And if she could read Mr. Kitridge's thoughts, she would have agreed with the lemonade tasting. How fun?

He refocused on his tea.
It pleased Leo very much to hear as he sipped on his tea that Gabriel had really thought things through and why he had chosen those students that he had done to join the writing team. It was a relief that this wasn’t just something that had risen out of the spur of the moment and that there was some real thought and planning behind it. "I'm glad to hear that you feel prepared and up to the challenge of taking on everything. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you come to realize you need it. It is what good bosses and people in any kind of power position do." Its what he did.
"I think it's good that you chose people to write for the paper not just for your friendship with them or because they are your sister's friends, but because you believe that they will be an asset to the team and will write good articles." Leo said thoughtfully. That’s what it came down to eventually anyway. The quill wouldn’t be able to become popular again if those who wrote for it didn’t produce good read worthy articles.
"Use the experience you've gotten from writing for the yearbook. It will probably help you overcome any obstacles you might come across in interviews and such. Professor Quigley and I will act as the quill staff advisors." Leo finished off. A task they had been appointed by Headmistress Truebridge.
Biting into his sandwich a little more aggressively Leo was quiet for several minutes. When he swallowed down his last bite he asked "Do you have any questions you want to ask me Gabe? How is life outside of academics? Are you still together with Coral-Bay?"
"Hello, Mr. Kitridge." The smile remained in tact upon seeing the Librarian answer the door to his office. Peeking around the man, who seemed somehow smaller to Cutty the snake could see the slight mess of which Mr. Kitridge spoke. When Mr. Kitridge turned on his heels Cutty followed in shutting the door behnd himself.
"Do you remember what they were called?" If Mr. Kitridge had thought of accio'ing the books, although perhaps it slipped his mind as he seemed to be quite focused on their whereabouts, shouting Accio books in a library with no clear idea of which books exactly was not a good idea. They'd have to know their specific names in order for it to be effective and not disastrous.
Shaking his head as Cutty joined him in the mess known as his office he said "That's the thing. I don't remember what they're called and I've lost the list somewhere beneath all the book piles." Carefully stepping over a few books he continued "They're supposed to be about grounds keeping and maintaining gardens and grounds or something similar. I thought our new groundskeeper Mr Maclaren would enjoy reading them." Not that Scotty had asked him to order some books Leo had done it on impulse when there had been a sale of books.
Lifting up books and putting them down in search for the inventory list Leo asked with a glance over the senior snake boy "I suppose you didn’t come here to just chat and help me look for books Cutty. Did you have something specific on your mind?" Not that, Leo didn’t appreciate any help he could get.
Eden chuckled a little before sweeping into his office and having a seat. "It tastes...very similar? I can't actually think of how it tastes differently..it kind of tastes..smoother? And it's pink. "I kind of was...really rude to Gabriel and--I just wanted to tell you that it wasn't me being mean on purpose--I mean, it was on purpose--at the time--but I just have a lot going on and--" Sigh. gkhtrughritughiurghihgitghtuigh
“Interesting,” Leo said. "I'd have to try some pink lemonade sometime. Maybe the house elves know how to make some." He pondered thoughtfully. But it was something he’d investigate at another time.
Pouring up a glass of cold lemonade for himself, he took a long, big sip from his glass. Eden began telling him the reason for her visit and then she clammed up as if she was afraid of something. Choosing his words carefully Leo responded softly "Eden, you know you can tell me anything. I'm your head of house. You're supposed to be able to come to me with your woes and troubles. I can only help you if I know what’s going on or what is wrong. But if you don’t feel comfortable telling me then that’s okay too."
Nodding Leo said quietly. "Yes, I heard about that little incident at the feast table. But I also heard that you apologised to Gabriel. So what is it that is troubling you? That Gabriel didn’t know the back story?"

"I do, but mine's no sweetheart," he grumbled, eyeing the feline warily. "She's technically my sister's.. you'll see her next year I reckon," he added with a shrug, then paused thoughtfully. "I'm not sure she'll be in Ravenclaw though... but regardless you'll see her, she's bound to pass by the library at some point."
And that was enough about Suri, yes. He was already dreading it. Hogwarts was hectic and weird enough without worrying his sister was going to fall to her death while trying to jump the moving staircases, or go and feed the giant squid some leftovers because "poor thing does no one go talk to him?"
ANYWAYS.
Benzi handed Kitridge a copy of his OWLs and kept a copy for himself. He was pretty sure he had them memorised by now but a visual guide was always helpful. "Um, well."
Deep breaths, Rider. "I want to become an Auror. But I figured I'd go to you first before Professor Dakest so as to not waste his time if you think I have no chance." Not that Benzi believed he didn't have a change. On the contrary, Benzi was almost sure he would get in the program, he just needed reassurance and more than a little guidance.
Ahem. "I had, um, personal issues going on around OWL time and so the scores unfortunately don't really reflect my abilities. All my E's could have been O's, at least. What do you think, sir?" yes, no, maybe so? Was it really obvious that he was kind of afraid of going to see Dakest?

The quill wouldn’t be able to become popular again if those who wrote for it didn’t prodfreneticuce good read worthy articles.
Are you still together with Coral-Bay?"
.
.
.
.
If it wasn't obvious, Gabe was extremely uncomfortable with this sudden turn in questioning.
...and the mention of Coral Bay.....made him feel even more peculiar. He was definitely angry at her...even though he had zero right to be. Just....a lot had happened in a short span of time...and she wasn't here.
Drawing from all he'd been taught over the summer, the Ravenclaw cleared his throat, sat up a bit straighter,...and adjusted his tie. Learned habits. Though odd, they did help Gabe in recentering himself. Made him feel more professional...which was ironic since his cheeks were redder than cherries. The almost obscene blushing did NOT look professional.
"No, sir. I have no further questions." There was a brief awkward pause (on Gabe's end, anyway), which had been covered up with tea-drinking. Hydration was important....or so he'd read. Yes, that was a cheap excuse. "As for Coral and myself, we've separated for academic reasons."
He tried not to sound (and look) too disappointed at the entire situation...but it was difficult. Gabe didn't get close to a lot of people.

Cutty untucked a chair, or more like turned it so as to sit in it, but instead of sitting he placed his school bag in it and began to help Mr. Kitridge navigate the sea of tomes he'd created. He'd never seen the man this haphazard. Was everything alright with Professor Morgan?
"I'm sure he would. I would if I were new to a job. Anything to help me do my job better and set me apart, yer know." It sounded like a nice surprise, really. As if Mr. McLaren wasn't expecting the books at all. Following suit, Cutty began to re-stack a tower of books as Mr. Kitridge had done being on the look out for any loose leaves of parchment.
"I did, Mr. Kitridge, booht I don't mind helpin' yer whilst I'm at it." He said, beginning with another stack having neatly aligned the first one he'd looked through against the desk. "I've been reading some books from the muggle section. Fer fun, yer know. And I found some that appear to be a set aboutter spy called James Bond, boooooht...I don't think our set is complete as I can't find the one called Dr. No." Once finished searching through the stack he had, Cutty also aligned this stack neatly against the Librarian's desk in order to keep them out of the walk ways.
"I came back a few times just to see if someone had checked it out, booht I never ran into it. Could yer order it from another library?" Or maybe order a fresh copy if they ever had it in the first place.

"It troubles me because.........I don't normally treat people like that, and I feel really terrible. I don't liiiiiike Gabriel, but I should be nice anyways." For...Clara reasons. And other reasons.
She ran her finger around the rim of the glass, absentmindedly. "A lot of things are wrong...at the moment." She said softly. "I didn't even want to come back...but I did."
She just wanted to talk to someone here...and not just owl Iwin...or her mother...and sure, talking to her friends was one thing. But...she just felt like SOME adult should know things...

"That's unfortunate." Leo said. "Having a pet should be a joyful experience." At least that was how he saw it. Nodding he said "I’ll keep an eye out for your sister next year then." He’d do it regardless if she became sorted into Ravenclaw or not. It wasn’t certain until the sorting hat sang his song on opening feast night.
Accepting the parchment with owl scores from Benzi he skimmed them over for a few moments trying to remember what subjects were required to get into Auror training. Meeting Benzi’s gaze he said encouragingly "I think you’re scores a quite good actually and if you are prepared to put down lots of time studying outside of being on your toes in classes then I see no reason why you shouldn’t be able to fulfil your dream to become an auror."
"I can provide you with old newt exams to practice on if you’d like too?" Leo offered. "You can also get updated information about what is needed to qualify for auror training in the Corner room right here in the library." It eliminated the need to see Professor Dakest if Benzi didn’t want to bother Leo's colleague. He wasn't going to pry into in the nature of Benzi's personal issues unless he wanted him to be aware of them.

He tried not to sound (and look) too disappointed at the entire situation...but it was difficult. Gabe didn't get close to a lot of people.
Leo had struck a sore spot unintentionally as was evident by Gabriel’s reddening cheeks. He wasn’t sure how to smooth over things when he seemed to have put his foot in the hole literally and made his prefect uncomfortable. "I'm sad to hear that. I thought you and Coral-Bay were a cute couple that made each other stronger. But Hogwarts is a big place so I’m sure you can find someone new to date if you want to."
Glancing down at his clock he said "I need to get back out in the library to see that nobody has made a mess of things. I hope you’ll have a good rest of the day Gabriel." He’d see him at the next quill meeting and in Ravenclaw Tower.

With Cutty's help Leo made good way head way towards bringing order to the chaos. "It's not usually this chaotic when I get new book shipments." He explained. Running a finger down the book spines in a pile of books he continued. "It was just that this time they had just thrown the books into the boxes without stacking them in any sort of order and that makes everything more time consuming." And not to forget it made him irritated. “I really appreciate the help. As you stack the books maybe you could put them in alphabetical order by author?" If Cutty didn’t mind helping then Leo was not going to waste the chance of putting an extra pair of hands to use.
"Who is the author of the James Bond books?" Leo queried. "I can definitely order a copy from another library since I’m not certain we have that many James Bond novels in the muggle section. You could always see if Professor Moxley has any copies."
"They probably do. They know how to make everything..." she commented. She took a sip of her own lemonade and sighed. Sipping on his lemonade he let Eden talk. It was clear that she needed to get what was really troubling her out in the open. Leo could provide a listening ear. Softy he replied. "If you know what you did wrong and you know how acting like that makes you feel then you’ve taken the first step towards changing your behaviour. I’m sure you’re friends would say the same." And as for Gabriel he had probably already forgotten the incident.
Quietly Leo asked. "What are the lots of things that are wrong? Why didn’t you want to come back to school?" he hoped his silent encouragement was enough to get Eden to open up. It was clear that things were more serious than just a few hot-headed words at the feast. And because of this Leo was glad that she had come to see him.

Cutty listened as Mr. Kitridge explained why the unusual dishevelment. Of course the shipment was to blame. Cutty did not imagine that Mr. Kitridge could've done this on his own. He was only one man, even if a magical one. One magical man. "No problem, Mr. Kitridge." He said separating a new stack that he'd begun to go through. Hugging the stack tightly he turned the books so that their spines were facing up toward him. He looked down on them and did some rearranging as he leafed through searching for the parchment slip. Still he turned up nothing.
"The author..." He tilted his head and looked up toward the ceiling. He clicked his tongue remembering the name. "Ian Fleming. Fleming with one M." Cutty noticed more books behind him and realized that the packing slip must have likewise been a significant size to have included all of these books. Cutty was questioning why they didn't accio it, but kept silent. Maybe Mr. Kitridge would issue some lil helper points by the end of it. And if not, he was hoping Professor Bellaire still held to her words: You let me know.
He could still hear them ringing clear in his mind.
"I should go and see her. She'd probably know quite a bit." Was the Moxinator muggle-born or did she just happen to find muggles fascinating? What if it was a Princess Degree?

Eden nodded. It was quite encouraging to hear that...she felt like she needed to hear that. She sipped her lemonade quietly for a minute as she tried to figure out how to phrase her next few thoughts to Mr. Kitridge. Hmm.
"Mainly, and I know this might seem like a dumb teenager thing to think, because Phoenix Toros? He was a Gryffindor? He didn't come back for his seventh year due to personal reasons...and...we're a thing." As in, dating and all that jazz. "Another boy...that I was seeing....stopped seeing me....and....it makes me really sad. Because he understood me so well and...." she shrugged and looked at her lap.
"See? All dumb teenage girl stuff." She chuckled!sighed and just picked at a loose thread on her skirt, her cheeks turning red.

His office was a mess. There were books everywhere and even though he was stacking the piles in alphabetic order with Cutty’s help he saw no sign off the parchment that had come along with the shipment. Leo was beginning to wonder if he had even gotten such a parchment when he stumbled over it lying at the bottom of a book pile, shoved in between the pages of a book he from this angle couldn’t read the title of. Exclaiming loudly and waving the parchment in the air. "Finally, I found it!" It was not a minute too soon. Scanning the content over whilst humming to himself Leo said to Cutty. "Look for books by the author Hughes, Albert Hughes. He is a rising magical author that has written quite a few good books on gardening and such."
Hearing the name of the author of the James Bond book, Leo raised his gaze to the ceiling for a moment as he tried to remember if the library held any books by that author but it was unlikely. "I'm sure Professor Moxley does. If she doesn’t have the book I’ll order it from the nearest muggle library."
Taking out his wand he mumbled under his breath as he cast a spell that stacked all the books in the room in neat piles. Work done Leo turned to Cutty again. "How is life otherwise? Are you getting along with your peers?"
Eden nodded. It was quite encouraging to hear that...she felt like she needed to hear that. She sipped her lemonade quietly for a minute as she tried to figure out how to phrase her next few thoughts to Mr. Kitridge. Hmm.

As the words poured out of Eden’s mouth all pertaining to matters of the heart Leo really wanted to sink through the floor and disappear. Why couldn't she have gone to one of the females on staff with this rather than him? Like Cassie, Nessa, Meredith? He was not a love expert just because he had a Head of House pin stuck to the front of his robes.
After taking an extra long sip he replied calmly. "One thing to take solace in is that you are young and that you’ll have plenty of chances to fall in and out of love as you continue to grow up Eden." Pushing away his lemonade glass for a moment Leo continued. "I'm sorry that your relationship with Pheonix ebbed out into nothing when he left school but this other boy you mentioned that stopped dating you, is he still going to Hogwarts? If he is then you can seek him out and tell him that you don’t want your relationship to end."

Cutty had been neatly stacking another and yet another pile of newly shipped books when he heard the Librarian shout out that he'd found what he was looking for. Unable to resist the urge, Cutty held a finger up to his mouth and whispered, "Shh! Mr. Kitridge. We're in a library." He was joshing, of course.
But good. Yes good. He'd found the packing slip parchment. Albert Hughes. Albert Hughes. New and it sounded as if he knew his stuff in Herbology. Could be worth a read himself. "Ah, helping out Headmistress Truebridge with her recommended reading for her lessons?"
He nodded when Kitridge offered to order the Bond books for him. "Thanks, Mr. Kitridge." He said with a smile. Then the Librarian waved his wand and the book Cutty was holding joined with others to neatly stack themselves. Job done. "Is it true that she used to teach Herbology here at this skewel before?", Cutty asked about the Headmistress. He'd meant to look this information up, but it had gotten away from him.
There weren't many adults, save his parents who asked Cutty about his life and his friendships. At least not without ulterior motives. Like they wanted to snoop. But maybe that wasn't the case here. Still it felt alien to him. "Life is great!" He said enthused. "I'm sellin' more than ever." But that wasn't the personal answer to a personal question. "Everyone knows my name and I'm not even in m'seventh year yet. So I'd say things were looking up."

Turning to face Cutty he just grinned at the senior boy for his joshing comment before turning to some strewn out parchments. Yes, you weren’t allowed to shout in the library but spontaneous outbursts of joy had to be okay. Leo wasn’t that strict. He just wanted a quiet atmosphere that enabled students to study well and without too many distracting noises.
Stacking and piling another set of books which he ticked off on the packing slip Leo replied with a glance towards Cutty across the office. "I doubt that Headmistress Truebridge needs any help with recommended reading from me but I do look out for books that might be of interest to all of my colleagues for there lesson planning." Most were appreciative too.
**
With the work done and the office looking like an office again Leo walked over to the desk to take a sip from his coffee mug. Grimacing at taste of the now cold substance he used his wand to vanish the content. Answering Cutty’s question he nodded "Yes Headmistress Truebridge has taught Herbology at Hogwarts before. If I don’t recall totally wrong then her lessons were all very popular and liked amongst the students."
One thing that Leo liked about Cutty was that you could never really guess what answer you’d get out of him to a question. It left things interesting. But in this instance a little confusing. Cutty sold what? Deciding to focus on the last thing he had said Leo asked "So you want to be famous when you graduate from school? What do you want to work with?"

Most were appreciative too.

So Albert Hughes wouldn't be required reading, but Cutty thought it might be worth it to check it out anyway. The teachers at Hogwarts liked their subjects for a reason and it probably wouldn't hurt towards earnesty points to have read a newly published book on the subject to have something to share with them anyway.
Cutty moved over toward a nearby stack of the newly ordered books and picked up the top copy looking over the front and back cover. He looked up at Mr. Kitridge in time to see one sour face and briefly connected it to the book he was holding until he witness the Librarian ridding the mug of it's contents. Then Mr. Kitridge elaborated on his question. "Money." That was the short answer. "I like wehrkin' with it and I feel like I've a good understandin' of how it wehrks. I could help people buy houses and pay fer skewel and all that." It wasn't a high profile job compared to say Quidditch player, but there was still room for ingenuity and achievement within the finance sector. From where he stood there was no glass ceiling and a wizard could achieve great heights if risk and reward were set just so.

Listening to Cutty, he said thoughtfully "So you're interested in a financial career." Taking a seat in one of the comfy chairs that had reappeared as the book stacks had accumalted in neat piles on the floor Leo continued. "Have you looked at what is required to take up a job at for example Gringotts and what kind of university degrees and practical job experience is needed?" Extracting his wand from its usual place in its waist holster Leo used it to fetch a few pamphlets and information regarding financial careers available in the wizarding world. Dropping the pamphlets on the side table next to him he gestured for Cutty to take the other chair. "Where does your interest in money come from? Do your parents work in the financial sector?" It was refreshing to hear a young wizard who actually had a clear idea of where and what they wanted to work with when the majority were clueless.

Cutty couldn't believe what he was hearing. His face was entirely blank for a moment as he considered what was going on here. It seemed unlikely that the Librarian was really curious, but maybe the busy healer had contrived a plan to get the other members of staff and faculty to mine the Slytherin students on her behalf. To Cutty's knowledge, hardly anyone went to the Slytherin Head of House unless they absolutely had to. He assumed it was because they were a bit afraid of her after the tongue lashings she'd given them surrounding the feasts. Even Ethan and both prefects hadn't stopped by her office to Cutty's knowledge in quite some time.
"Nar. I was hopin' to get tin by me good looks alone, Mr. Kitridge." And maybe he was serious about that. "I've been practicin' and lehrnin' Gobbledygook and our history involving Goblins and I'm fair good at Arithmancy." That was a more serious answer he gave as he took a seat. His hand reached out and grabbed one of the pamphlets and flipped it open. "I guess my interest in it cooms from me own experience. It doosn't coom from m'moohm or m'dad. Although, m'dad has money. He owns his own shipping and delivery company. That's how he met me moohm. She arranges portkeys with the Ministries for a travel agency. I think I like wehrkin' with money because of what I've seen it do. It's quite liberating. Gives people options, yer know. Takes them away too if yer haven't got any." And he knew about have and have not for he lived both lives simultaneously. Having with his ebullient, but careless father and not with his ethical and stubborn mother. "It's a sort of magic on it's own, isn't it?"

Eyes fixated on the Greek mythology book that she was reading, Penelope felt along the wall with one hand so she wouldn't bump into it. Reading while walking was something that she did quite often, so she wasn't worried about crashing into things. You just had to stop reading on the stairs for safety reasons. If she was right, the door to Mr. Kitridge's office should be around here somewhere. Feeling the door, Penelope knocked on the door. Not looking up from her book Penelope waited to see if Mr. Kitridge was in his office.

"Good looks..." Leo echoed thoughtfully. "I doubt very much that they will get you places Cutty, unless of course you were aiming for a job in the fashion industry." Which he wasn't. They were discussing a career in finance nothing else. Nodding Leo said "Aptness in Gobbledygook, Arithmancy and our magical history will earn you merits but you'll need to study at university or at least have some job experience from somewhere to be eligible for any type of start job in the finance sector. Do you have any job experience?" Using his wand Leo conjured up two glasses of fresh lemonade.
Sipping on the cold and delicious substance he paused to ask "Do you want to go in your father's footsteps and take over the running of the shipping company in the future?" It was a reasonable question. Leo had to admit to himself that Cutty seemed to know a fair bit of money and its power. Money had the power to take you places in both directions which was why you had to be sensible with it. "It certainly does. So be wary and invest the money you have wisely."

Leo had retreated back to his office to get some paperwork filed among other things. He had just poured himself a cup, thinking about Cassie and the ever present and irritating cobwebs he heard a distinct knock on the door. Taking a long coffee sip he made no haste to rise and answer his door. When he eventually unlocked and opened his door he found one of his own eaglet's on his doorstep. Face turning into a beam he greeted cheerily "Hello, Penelope! It's nice to see you. Would you care to come inside?" Leo noted that she was carrying a book but he let her bring it up if she wanted to not that he wasn't very curious.
