The Great Hall is flanked by two large, thick, wooden doors that often make a BANG! sound when flung open by dramatic students and/or staff. There are large, beautiful glass windows at the end of the Hall above the staff dais, the usual enchanted ceiling over everyone, and the four regular house tables lined up neatly in the middle.
Whether you make an entrance or choose to simply enter the Great Hall, you'll still be wowed by its size and architecture every time. You might also be pleased to notice the general upgrade in cleanliness, and perhaps a light, pleasantly clean scent from the candles floating above all the tables. Isn't it nice, what money can do for a school?

Professor Flamsteed was going to meet her here by the entrance to the great hall. After drinking the potion, Penelope was feeling more confident about what she was about to do, but she was still feeling a little uneasy about the whole going up and talking to people thing. She took a few deep breaths. This time she was going to be confident and brave. She would go and talk to people, and she wouldn’t start crying in front of Flamsteed or anything like that. She could do this. Whatever task Professor Flamsteed assigned her to, she would do. Penelope was ready.
Having convinced herself that she was ready to face Professor Flamsteed and everyone that she might have to talk to, Penelope pulled out and started to read, waiting for the suited astronomy professor to show up. It was unlikely that she would miss it when he showed up, given that he was not one for quiet entrances. Flamsteed would already be at the staff table. Maybe she should get that cat fur off of her robes… Eyes still focused on her book, Penelope reached into her pocket for a lint roller. Okay, now it was gone. No, she couldn’t focus on the book anymore. Penelope closed the book and put it away in one of her pockets that was magically enlarged on the inside. She was going to watch the doors so she would see when Flamsteed was coming.

Leaving the staff table briefly before the Headmistress gave her speech, the Astronomy professor made his way through the Great Hall with the box of rocks and pamphlets levitating behind him. Lowering it to the table with his wand, he turned and looked for the Ravenclaw and a grin instantly crept across his face.
Excellent. This was going to be a five fwoopers with one stone sort of evening.
And yes, the rock references and puns were likely to be a THING this evening.
"Miss Wright, stellar to see you. I trust you had a good rest of the summer," he greeted as he began gingerly taking rocks out of the box and setting them on the table in neat little rows. "Here, takes these pamphlets (http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/cosmicgryffindor/SS_SchoolRPG/PET%20ROCK%20ADOPTION%20FAIR/poster.jpg) and go hand them out to people," the pet rock enthusiast instructed, handing her a stack of parchment. "I'll make sure and arrange things here. We'll need to be efficient with our time...and close up shop briefly when the Headmistress makes her speech...but when in doubt, we ought to be able to catch the crowd as they make their way out of the Great Hall and to their dormitories for the night."
And since he knew a few short cuts, he could still make it back to the Gryffindor common room before the prefects got there with the rest of the house in tow.

He was here with the rocks! Penelope moved towards the box to help set them out on the table. ”Good evening Professor Flamsteed. Stellar time for a pet rock adoption fair.” As for her summer after the field trip, she had come home to find that her mother had adopted two kittens. Penelope had been allowed to name them Cassiopeia and Andromeda. Professor Flamsteed wouldn't want to know about the cats, though. He didn't like cats. Really, really didn't like cats.
This was so exciting! She was actually doing the pet rock adoption fair! Penelope was feeling extra bouncy right now, and it wasn’t because she needed the loo. Actually, now that she was thinking about it… She could wait.
Ooh, flyers for the pet rocks! Penelope took the posters and saluted the astronomy professor. ”I’ll hand these out.” Headmistress’ speech. That was the kind of thing that she should be around to hear. Speeches like that tended to include important information. The rock on the poster looked so cute! Wait, what was that? The first letter of the sentence at the bottom of the poster wasn’t capitalized! Penelope fought the urge to get out a quill to correct all of the posters. She was just going to live with it and play a game that she liked to call ‘see if any other Ravenclaws notice it and fix it.’ Most other people probably wouldn’t care.

Stellar indeed! The Astronomy professor enthusiastically saluted the Ravenclaw and watched her head back into the Great Hall. He had to admit that he was a little proud of the fact that Miss Wright was handing out the flyers on her one and, well, being a bit more social than he had observed her to be over the terms. Nothing like a bit of forced social interactions with your peers to start off the term, right?
Right.
Now...he had some arranging to do....
First, he lined the rocks of his own design (http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/cosmicgryffindor/SS_SchoolRPG/PET%20ROCK%20ADOPTION%20FAIR/008_PetRock.jpg) along the right hand side of the table. Simple and stylish. If a rock could wear a suit, they would look like THESE pet rocks. Next were those Miss Wright and her sister had decorated - so he had been informed previously anyway. There were some colorful ones (http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/cosmicgryffindor/SS_SchoolRPG/PET%20ROCK%20ADOPTION%20FAIR/3254337328_9ba84f828a.jpg) and then some rather eccentric looking ones (http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/cosmicgryffindor/SS_SchoolRPG/PET%20ROCK%20ADOPTION%20FAIR/Wanttoocomeviewmypetrockcollection_15ebb43de6f3feb 19e5f808e20fbf4fa.jpg)...but he had no doubt they all would get adopted by the end of it all.
Surely at least by the end of the term. The couldn't have ORPHAN rocks, after all.
Rubbing his hands together, he set Pebbles on the ground by his feet - attached to her pink leash, of course - and began putting together the first adoption kit (http://www.polyvore.com/pet_rock_adoption_kit/set?id=157604514) so it was all ready for their first eager pet rock owner. He paused to check his sundial watch and gave a firm nod. Miss Wright out to be back soon...and just WHO would the lucky first student be?!

AND PET ROCKS!
Like Adi had told Penelope, he was here to check out the rocks. "PROFESSOR!" Woops! He had not meant to be so loud but who could blame him? Everyone could tell he was THRILLED to be back at Hogwarts, riiiiight?
Anyway... ehem. "Sorry. I didn't mean to shout like that. How are you? Did you have a good summer?'' Hehe. Adi always had questions buuuut just look at all those rocks, man! So colourful! And some so... unusual looking. At least their expressions were. "Would toads like pet rocks?'' he asked Flamsteed as he leaned a little closer to the group that was oh-so-colourful. And yes, he was not adopting one of these if his beloved Guster could not get along with them.

Ilia was fairly certain that she had found the proper place when she saw the table. It seemed like there was only one other.....very loud student here besides herself. The man behind the booth was a professor? He was certainly not what came to her mind when she heard the word professor. He looked quite dashing, as if he were going to a ball or something. She was curious and slightly impressed, he looked nothing like the other teachers that she saw.
She got a little more curious and began to look the rocks over. Some were quite strange and unusual with odd expressions. Some were incredibly bright , with garish colors that assaulted her vision. No, none of those would do for their precious toadette. She gravitated toward the right side of the table. Now, those rocks she liked. Simple, sleek, and dapper in her opinion. If she was going to have a rock, it had to be one that the toad liked. What one would make her comfortable? He needed to be big and smooth, yup since they had a girl toad they were getting a boy rock. Then she could have a boy toy, she thought to herself. She was laughing at herself in her mind, this was ridiculous and silly, but she was having fun with the idea.
.....................Was that a rock...on a....pink leash? Ilia was confused even more. The people in the country were C.r.a.z.y. With a capital c..........so it could be fun.

As Hady made her way towards the Great Hall she froze in place staring blankly at the table there in the Entrance Hall with a very cheerful looking Professor Flemsteed standing behind it. Were those rocks? Colorful rocks...with faces?! Oh! Oh! It was a Pet Rock stand!
Trying not to laugh or even crack a grin at this the small snakette made her way over. "Hello Professor, did you have a nice summer?" She greeted warmly giving a wave of her hand as well her eyes skimming over all the pet rocks across the table before spotting a certain one she knew on a pink leash. "How is Pebbles doing is she helping out with the Pet Rock adoptions?" Hey this may have sounded silly to anyone else around but Hady knew that Professor Airey would take this question seriously.
She wasn't quite sure why but she was seriously thinking about getting herself one of these Pets. Yeah she had Hagan here with her but he wasn't aloud to accompany her to all her classes. At least with one of these she'd always have company...always. Unless like she lost it or something, which would never happen since she wasn't careless like that. Now though came the real trouble...which one did she want?
"Professor, would it be wise to adopt two? That way the first one doesn't get lonely?" Another very serious question here. Loneliness wasn't good.

The professor had certainly heard the Hufflepuff before he had seen him - mostly because he had had his back to the entrance as he ensured that all the little pet rock babies were in perfectly straight lines parallel to one another.
"No need to apologize, Mr. Rehman," he saluted with a muffled chuckle. "With all the buzz coming from the Great Hall, we all need to raise our voices a bit to be heard. " Airey was no Maddox. He had no problem with loud noises. Obviously. He was a loud fellow himself, after all. "And it was quite stellar, thank you for asking."
"A stellar inquiry!" he exclaimed, gesturing specifically towards the nearest rock to himseld. "All creatures enjoy and appreciate the presence of a pet rock. In the Gryffindor common room, if you were not aware, we have a massive pet rock that I often find students' pet sleeping upon or curled up around the base. Felines, toads, and rodents alike."
Ilia was fairly certain that she had found the proper place when she saw the table. It seemed like there was only one other.....very loud student here besides herself. AND ANOTHER!
Airey couldn't quite remember this one name...other than they had just been sorted into Slytherin. Forgive the man, he had a short and selective attention span at feasts.
"Good evening," he greeted. "Come to adopt?"

"Good evening, Miss Lynch," he smiled towards the young Slytherin as she approached. "It was quite eventful." Which was an understatement, but good enough. "She is indeed," he continued, giving the pink leash a bit of a tug and moving Pebbles across the stone floor with a low grinding sound and a thud.
Another excellent question. It never ceased to amaze him how inquisitive students at Hogwarts could be. "The fantastic thing about pet rocks is that they easily adapt to any and all situations. They are perfectly fine on their own, but also comfortable in pairs or more. Pebbles hadn't felt terribly lonely, at least such concerns had never been voiced to me, but with the introduction of Boulder last term...she had no problems with it either. You could always adopt one now and mull things over and perhaps adopt another later."

Pet rocks. Pamphlet in hand, Hayden made her way to the entrance hall. Why were they having a pet rock adoption fair? Sometimes it was best to just not ask questions. That way, she wouldn't be consumed with the existential fear that nothing in the universe actually made sense. At least rocks made sense. Hayden had never had a pet before, not really. There was the cat of course, Hallie was just a few feet away from Hayden after having followed her from the Great Hall. She'd never actually gotten her as a pet though, it had just sort of happened.
"Hello professor," she greeted Flamsteed as she entered the entrance hall. "Did you have a good summer?" Hopefully it had been at least a little relaxing after all the excitement of the field trip. Hayden got closer to the table and display of the adoption fair that had been set up. Aw, they all had googly eyes. How cute. Hayden gently picked up a long, sleek black rock with one large and one small googly eye. Aw, he was looking at her. Hayden looked back up at the girl who had given them the pamphlets.
"Penelope, right?" She was pretty sure she had heard someone mention that was her name. Hayden regarded the girl solemnly as she gently cradled the rock. "Do I need to sign something to be authorized for adoption? And promise to take good care of it? Is there a birth certificate?" It was all very important. Being a mother/a pet owner was a big commitment.

Tyler walked out to the entrance part where he heard the pet rock thing was, just then he saw the girl that was handing out fliers to everyone about it. He went upto her but saw that she was looking at the flier "Umm.. hi.. Tyler here.. just wanted to come see what this pet rock thing was about." Yes those fliers were interesting but she didn't have to look at it right "You ok? something wrong with the posters" her looking made him want to look now so he started looking at the poster no idea what he was looking for though, but if she was looking there must be something there.

Being a mother/a pet owner was a big commitment.
Penelope looked at the Hufflepuff girl who had said her name. How did the Hufflepuff girl know her? Was this another one of those people who she had met and forgotten and was now expected to remember? She would figure that out later, but right now she was going to help the Hufflepuff girl with the pet rock adoption. Penelope prepared an adoption kit consisting of a box, care manual, and rock candy. ”You can put the rock in the box, and it comes with a care manual and rock candy. Here’s an adoption form.” She gave a form (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/cosmicgryffindor/media/SS_SchoolRPG/PET%20ROCK%20ADOPTION%20FAIR/adoptionform.jpg.html) and quill to the Hufflepuff girl. Birth certificate? Could rocks even have those?
Tyler walked out to the entrance part where he heard the pet rock thing was, just then he saw the girl that was handing out fliers to everyone about it. Penelope looked at the first year Ravenclaw boy. Tyler. She would have to remember his name, at least for now. ”Hi Tyler, I’m Penelope. Pet rocks are really just rocks, but they can make good pets if you’re not allowed to have pets or if you have allergies to animals. They’re also great if you just think it might be fun to have a rock as a pet. Are you thinking of adopting a rock?” Personally, she was not the kind of person who had any of the afore mentioned problems with having a real pet. She had quite a few pets of her own, including her owl and cat that she brought to school with her. Oh, that. Was he the kind of Ravenclaw who would notice the kind of things that she would on this poster. Penelope handed a poster to Tyler. ”What do you think of the posters?” Let him see for himself if he thought anything was wrong, and see what other comments he might have about the adoption fair.

More out of curiousity than anything else, Yoongi had seen people leaving the Great Hall and he figured that they could walk around near the entrance instead of staying at the feast and he had decided to follow. He vaguely saw a young girl with a blue and bronze badge handing out flyers but he liked to investigate things on his own. Plus he did not have a flyer yet... Yes, he was the observant kind of person.
He pushed the door open and was greeted with an very odd sight. A man, possibly one of the Professors was standing behind a long table and it sounded like he was selling ....rocks? He also spotted Ilia whom he met in Diagon Alley and he smiled at her. And that Yellow badge P guy (Adi)was here too.
As he moved closer, he overhead Hady asking if she could adopt two pet rocks. What even? Oh right, he should probably say hello to the man as well. "Hello Sir...what....what is this?"

Pebbles hadn't felt terribly lonely, at least such concerns had never been voiced to me, but with the introduction of Boulder last term...she had no problems with it either. You could always adopt one now and mull things over and perhaps adopt another later."
Shifting from one foot to the other Hady listened closely as Professor Airey answered everyone's question before he'd gotten to hers. This was fine by her of course as they all had good questions as well, ones she wanted to know the answers too so it saved her the trouble of having to ask herself. As she listened to questions being asked and answers being given her eyes moved over each and every pet rock sat on the table. Did she want something simple...or a bit more um different?
Hady gave a nod of her head in understanding about the summer being eventful. That was clearly an understatement where some vacations were listed, probably her own as well. A small grin briefly crossed her face as she watched Pebbles 'move' across the floor. It was rather amusing that the Professor cared for his pet rock as much as he did, it made the young girl actually smile a bit.
Boulder? "Oh! I didn't know you got another pet rock Professor, is he here as well?" She questioned , eyes scanning the rocks quickly to see if she'd be able to spot him. She didn't. Getting one now though and then maybe another at a later time sounded like a very good idea. That way she could bond with this one first and let Hagan meet it as well before thinking about another. It would also give everyone else a chance to get one. "That's a good idea, I think I'll only adopt one today. Would you happen to have any green ones? Or maybe silver?" Odd question maybe but those were her favorite colors.

More students were making their way to see the curious rock pets. There was a girl (Freya) Adi did not know but still she got a cheery 'hello!' from him. But then his attention was back to Professor Suits. Ohh, a salute! Adi liked those. They always looked so smart. He returned one to his Professor, pleased that the man hadn't minded his shouting. "I have another question,'' the Puffer said. "It's not pet rock related but is there anyway I can have those super cool eyebrows from last term again?'' Hehe.
"Actually, I had not known that, Professor.'' Hmmm. No one had ever told him about this huge rock in the Gryffie common room. "All the more reason to let me visit that common room some day... so I can do some exploration,'' Adi said as casually as he could. Be a sport, Astroman!
He leaned closer to the smaller group of rocks (the eccentric looking ones). "I think Gus will like this one. I know I do.'' He pointed to the rock with the green nose and HUGE orange smile. Seeeee? That rock was made for him. Orange was his favourite colour and the smile was just as big as his.
Adi turned when he heard more voices. Goody! It looked like Flamsteed was having more adopters! Oh hey! It was the new guy (Yoongi) he had seen around. "Hey, man! Liking Hogwarts so far?''

Okay...so Henric couldn't help himself, he was just too curious for his own good. He needed to know what was all the fuss about and why would his friends want to adopt one. After a few moments of pondering whether he should go, Henric shrugged and naturally his body followed the students heading out of the great hall to look for the pet rocks that was mentioned.
Henric saw Adi,Hayden and llia already admiring the display of eccentric looking rocks on the table. Whhhaat...Professor Flamsteed organising all this?! Hogwarts was getting stranger and oddly peculiar every second yet Henric couldn't resist not being part of it all.
"Hello, Professor Flamsteed...really nice display of..uhh..rocks here," Henric commented. Oh merlin...did he just saw one with a very bright coloured fancy looking suit on? Was that little rock studmuffin heading out for a date or something?...
He noticed (llia) saw one with a pink leash,"Please tell me that is not for 'Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana', my eyes hurt looking at its colour,"he groaned, and oh yes...their new toad's name was that.Surprisee~~(:D)
Henric glanced over to (Adi),"Adi, I think you dropped something, that pink leash is meant for you," he sniggered.

Ooh a box. That would be able to make a nice carrying case and could act as a bed. Even though rocks didn't sleep. It would have to be kept someplace safe while she was sleeping. Before she could commit to her new pet, Hayden crouched on the ground and held the rock out toward Hallie. She needed the approval. "What do you think Hallie?" The calico cat meowed and pressed her nose against the rock before losing interest. That was good enough for Hayden.
"I'll take it, thank you." She still didn't really understand why there was a pet rock adoption fair, but oh well. She still wanted one. Hayden took the quill and signed the adoption certificate. Then she rolled it up gently and plac it into the box. It was followed by the rock itself. All set. "His name is Kevin," she declared.

Okay. Rocks.
This...was the right way to go, right? It probably would have been a good idea for him to ask the girl advertising at his NEW HOUSE TABLE (!!) where to go. But his deduction skills of the word "entrance" led him this way. The way he had entered this place. Which, luckily for the oldest Bronwyn boy, was definitely the right place. A ROCK ADOPTION. Oh, Gandalf! Oh, Dalek! His eyes widened, and he reached for his notebook -- but alas, the realisation that it was missing hit him again and his shoulders slumped a little.

AND ANOTHER!
Airey couldn't quite remember this one name...other than they had just been sorted into Slytherin. Forgive the man, he had a short and selective attention span at feasts.
"Good evening," he greeted. "Come to adopt?"
Ilia smiled politely at the suit clad gentleman and gave a polite bowing nod. "I believe I have." Her eye was most definitely caught by a larger, sleek and shiny black rock. It looked smooth and pretty and she thought that their little princess might like it. An odd, she knew to be nonsensical query crossed her mind though. "Is there any way to tell the difference between a boy and a girl pet rock? I wanted to get my toad a little brother." She smiled a little at the sentence that just left her mouth. She could see that the Professor was taking all of this very seriously and she felt that she should act so as well. He seemed interesting and nice enough.
Ilia saw one of the people she had met in Diagon Alley also looking at the rocks. She wasn't too sure Yoongi had liked her very much on their first meeting, but she waved to him regardless. It was good to be polite no matter the case and maybe they would get along well.
Ilia was surprised when the loud boy had told her hello. He seemed very friendly and pleasant so she waved back. "Hello." Her voice was soft and she said it a bit shyly, but she managed a small smile. New people made her awkward sometimes, but seeing he was a Hufflepuff like Henric made her a little more friendly. Maybe he was friends with him.
When she heard his voice, Ilia beamed at Henric happily. "I was just.....admiring it." Sure, that was the word. She was pretty sure that she overheard that it was the professors rock and while this confused her, she didn't wish to offend. "No, I don't think pink is really her color......or mine. 'Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana' would need something really classy, she is a princess after all." Nope she was not a pink kinda girl, blue.....that was her favorite color. "I was considering that one. Since we got a girl toad, we could get a boy rock I thought." Her grin was meant to tell him that she knew it was all silly, but she was having fun with the idea. Boy toy, it was seriously funny to her , funnier than she felt it should have been.

Here’s an adoption form.” She gave a form and quill to the Hufflepuff girl. Birth certificate? Could rocks even have those?
Tyler smiled as he listened to Penelope talk about the rocks, wait! what? was he thinking about it. No? oh dear he couldn't say no.. could he? not with the professor.. standing right there Tyler might seem odd with people actually adopting a rock of their own. He supposed they were low maintenance, just leave it in your room and come back to it, no need for feeding etc. He could name it too.. didn't seem so bad now afterall. "Umm yeah? I could be thinking about it" oh well there we go he looked like he might be actually adopting a rock as a pet, would have to be a boy rock he didn't want a girl one with all their dramas no offence Penelope he just didn't get girls and their dramas. What did he think of the posters? was that a trick question "Umm it is a very good poster, why?" he looked at it wondering why she was asking that question. He looked at the poster, something just didn't seem right about it though, what was it? he just couldn't put his finger on it. Tyler actually starting to frown a bit as he concentrated on the poster. There was something... give him a minute

"Did you have a good summer?" Hopefully it had been at least a little relaxing after all the excitement of the field trip.
...
"Miss Malone," he smiled at the Hufflepuff. "It was quite eventful." Quite eventful indeed.
And seeing as Miss Wright was seeing to the fourth year's needs, he would turn his attention elsewhere for the time being.
...
As he moved closer, he overhead Hady asking if she could adopt two pet rocks. What even? Oh right, he should probably say hello to the man as well. "Hello Sir...what....what is this?"
Looking over at the next curious student, Airey greeted the young man with an eager beam. "Good evening, Mr. Hyland," he saluted. He remember the name and face from his sorting. Airey had selective memory for that sort of thing during opening feasts. "Welcome to Hogwarts and congratulations on being sorted to Gryffindor. As your Head of House, I am please to inform you that THIS," he said, making a grand gesture with his arms over the table. "...is the best investment a student like yourself will make this evening."
GRIN.
"And please, never call me 'sir'. Professor Flamsteed or Profesor Airey will do just fine."
....
Boulder?
He knew he should have brought Boulder with him. Alas.
"A gift, actually," he winked, nodding his head towards his assistant for the evening - Miss Wright. "There are a few green ones here...they have festive little noses and everything," he said as he picked up two green ones in either hand and showed them to Miss Lynch. "And this one here (http://i59.tinypic.com/2s5zd3d.jpg) has some silver detailing that seems to be the best of both worlds, in terms of your request that is. OH LOOK! I think it likes you."
Airey smirked. "Crack open a book, Mr. Rehman. Standard Book of Hexes ought to be the best place to start." He felt like Yoda just now, sort of. Setting the Hufflepuff on the correct path towards finding his answer without giving him the answer entirely. Ah, the life of a professor. In a sense, they all were Yoda.
And then he chocked back some laughter at the next remark. What WAS it with Hufflepuffs seemingly wanting to jump ship and join Gryffindor? At least that was how he interpreted the behavior. "A reminder, Mr. Rehman, that while all the other common rooms last term had passageways revealed that allowed others to enter them, Gryffindor did not." MWAHA! Most secure of all four houses! Perhaps that had something to do with Medea being his assistant previously. She had helped make his office impenetrable after his precious Carolina blue silk tie was stolen.
Poor thing...he wondered where she was.
Back to business.
"Ah, a stellar choice. All yours as soon as you sign this pledge," the professor nodded as he passed a piece of parchment (http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/cosmicgryffindor/SS_SchoolRPG/PET%20ROCK%20ADOPTION%20FAIR/adoptionform.jpg) to the prefect along with a quill.
...
He looked down at the table and beamed. "Why thank you."
He then busied himself with putting together a few more adoption kits, and readying the rocks that looked to have been selected for transport. But then...he overheard something. Perhaps he had misheard and perhaps he was overreacting...but no one - NO ONE - insulted Pebbles or her leash!
IT WAS EVEN IN HIS CLASSROOM RULES!
"5 points from Hufflepuff!" he exclaimed, pointing an accusing finger at Mr. Nicolei and flaring his nostrils. "For instantiating that Pebbles' leash is aesthetically unappealing and therefore insulting HER." And also implying that it was better suited for Mr. Rehman.
Pink was certainly NOT that prefect's color.
"I suggest you apologize to her, immediately."
AND NO PET ROCK FOR YOU!
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
THERE WAS A FELINE IN HIS PRESENCE! RIGHT THERE! A FELINE! SLDJKFDSKLSJSFSLSKJ!
Covering his mouth so muffle the next manly shriek that passed his lips, he used his wand to levitate a pledge form towards the Hufflepuff. No way he was going to go over THERE and hand it to her himself. Nope nope. Look at the CLAWS and FANGS on that BEAST!
"If you please, Miss Malone," he said, his lips just barely peeking over his hand. "Could you sign this as well? (http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/cosmicgryffindor/SS_SchoolRPG/PET%20ROCK%20ADOPTION%20FAIR/adoptionform.jpg)"
Especially since she was bringing an innocent pet rock into an environment with a BEAST like that. He would not deny her a pet simply because she owned one of those...things - Medea owned several after all - but he had to be SURE she was committed.
Okay.

Side stepping a bit more AWAY from the feline, he turned his attention towards the small little first year before him. A boy whose name he had, unfortunately, not caught from his Sorting...but that did not seem to matter as he introduced himself right away.
Outstanding manners, this one.
"Good evening, Mr. Rooney," he greeted with a wide smile. "Looking to adopt? Which one of these lovelies strikes your fancy?"
He seemed interesting and nice enough.
....
That was an excellent question. "That is one of the great mysteries of the pet rock community," he said, making things up by the seat of his trousers mostly. "There are no real distinguishing features to give any indication of a gender, and some will argue that they are in fact genderless. However, as a pet rock owner, you tend to have a gut feeling about them and just know."
That was the nice thing about them. They could be anything that you needed them to be.
And thank you for admiring Pebbles and her leash. The Slytherin's kindheartedness was duly noted.
...
What did he think of the posters? was that a trick question "Umm it is a very good poster, why?" he looked at it wondering why she was asking that question. Awh, this girl (Freya) seemed friendly. She was new, wasn't she? Adi had never seen her around... not that he knew EVERYONE who attended Hogwarts. "Heya! Decided on which rock you want as yet?'' Here was another chance to make another friend and he was going to snap it up.
....................
It seemed Flamsteed would not be giving him super cool brows again. This was fine with Adi because he would simply follow what the man said. "Don't be surprised if I make an appearance to your lesson on day with my brows like that.'' Just a heads up, Professor. LOL.
"Isn't that so unfair?'' Adi asked innocently. ''We could change that, you know, Professor. You and I can create a secret passage. With your awesome magical skills and my er, encouragement we could have a brand new passage to add to the Castle.'' Hehe. Preferably from somewhere close to the Puffer common room. So what did ya think, Professor?!
Adi took the parchment as he sent a smirk Henric's way. Very funny, Henric. Adi knew his friend was teasing and giving him a hard time just like he would do so often. With a quill in hand, Adi was about to ask, 'Do you think it brings out the colour of my eyes?' when Professor Suits took over.
O_O
Oh, gosh! Poor Henric. "Professor, I don't think he meant any disrespect. He was just trying to give me a difficult time.'' Buddies did that but Adi could understand why Flamsteed was being so sensitive. If anyone had said anything about anything belonging to Gus or about his toad, he'd loose it too.
"You should apologise though, Henric,'' Adi said. Professor Suits be nuts for his beloved Pebbles. He gave the other Hufflepuff a look that he hoped said, 'Don't worry, no harm done'. In the meanwhile, the sixth year signed (http://s82.photobucket.com/user/GinHerm91912/media/308dcac1-17a9-48dd-a108-b232586b7f6c_zpsbhcztitm.jpg.html?state=copy&sp=false) the adoption parchment with a flourish. "Here you go, Professor.''

Henric stopped sniggering immediately when Professor Flamsteed pointed an accusing finger at him for disrespecting his pet rock. He was momentarily shocked too when the professor deducted points from his house without warning. Whaaat! It was the start of the school year, he couldn't possibly! Henric never been deducted for anything before in his years in Hogwarts! He felt more than unjustly.
"Prof-professor, I-I d-didn't m-mean to insult your f-fine collection of pet rocks or even pebbles, I r-really didn't mean to,"Henric stuttered, before staring down on the floor while trying to keep his back straigtened and his hands firmly placed behind him. He couldn't believe he lose housepoints for it.Darn it...Henric...you did it this time.Henric felt dissapointed in himself. They were both right, Henric was truly at fault here.
Henric was touched by Adi who tried to cover for his mistake. He shook his head,"No no..its entirely my fault, I wasn't thinking straight...I mean no disrespect of any kind,professor..Sir....I'm sorry Professor Flamsteed,Adi and.."he paused to look at his pet rock named,Pebbles,"..I'm sorry Pebbles..." he muttered quietly, feeling very sorry indeed.

Tia didn't realize the CROWDS that would be swarming to get pet rocks. She just hoped all the goods ones weren't adopted already; or worse, would her pet rock have already been taken?
Approaching the table cautiously, the fifth year was pleasantly surprised to find a LOVELY spread of rocks. Yes one of these would look very nicely in terms of a study buddy.
"Evening Professor," Tia acknowledged once he was free from dealing with her peers. Well that would figure that the Astronomy Professor was leading up this whole adoption fair; he didn't want to be the sole eccentric person in the castle being the only person with a pet rock. "Perhaps you could help me find just the right pet rock. I'm looking for one to give me that positive energy I need when feeling down from my OWL studies. A pet that will give me that instant boost, but doesn't require the ... demands of a crup or kneazle." While the latter were adorable, she couldn't make the commitment to their care this year. "I was thinking one of these colourful ones? OR perhaps that one with blue hair?"

See now Aegis was well prepared to continue making an excellent impression to his Head of House. Under his School robes the 6th year Lion wore a grey pinstriped suit and tie. He sat around his table make very little conversation with anyone. He glanced over at the Staff table and noticed Flamsteed's absence. He then also noticed a flier circulating itself around the Table.
Pet Rock Adoption in the Entrance?
Hell yes Aegis would do this!! Anything to be more like his his Idol and Head of House.
The Gryffindor made his way to the Entrance of the Great Hall and looked around to finally spot the Blonde Savior of all the Lions! "Professor!" Aegis spoke loudly and confidently while his face beamed and he waved to him doofishly. Aegis then strode over making sure to let his robes flow behind him some and show off his awesome suit. "Professor Sir Flamsteed, I would like to Adopt all the Noble Pet Rocks!"

Hady smiled when the Professor said Boulder had been a gift her eyes following where the Professor looked towards the girl. That was cool, Pet rocks make nice gifts. Quickly though her attention was back on the rocks she was being soon.
Her eyes took in each pet she was shown in turn. The moment 'he' was shown that beautiful green and silver rock she was drawn to him, her eyes shining brightly as she reached out for him but didn't take him yet. "He's perfect Professor! May I hold him?" The small girl asked quietly adding a second later. "Do I need to sign anything to prove I adopted him?" She had seen another girl filling out papers or something before.

"Good evening, Mr. Rooney," he greeted with a wide smile. "Looking to adopt? Which one of these lovelies strikes your fancy?"
He was glad that the blood on his chin had dried up and he didn't need to be worried incessantly about someone offering him a tissue or something that they may have blown their nose in. The smile from the adult there - Roo assumed that he was a Professor, otherwise he was somewhat creepy - was somewhat soothing and the Ravenclaw returned it. "Bronwyn. Rooney Bronwyn. I'm n--not.. I'm not Mr. Rooney." And he hadn't been named after one either, not matter what muggle history would suggest.
He was definitely half named after a kangaroo.
"I would like to know more about the rocks, please, Mr.. -- Are you one of the Professors here? How much care does a rock need? Will it buy into my homework time? Do you think we can schedule parent and rock groups to learn and share our rock stories?" All questions that would have gone into his notebook, had he not have lost it.

Hey man… Now that he thought about it , he never told the Hufflepuff (Adi) his name and he didn’t know his one either. This obviously had to change. “Yoongi, my name is Yoongi” he said. “The castle looks really beautiful, it fits me” he nodded while looking around the Entrance Hall. He wondered how his new Gryffindor House room was.
Yoongi grinned when he saw Ilia wave him at. She had seemed pretty cold and distant at first glance at the ice cream parlor and she definitely moved with some grace. But that little wave showed she had some innocent reactions. He moved away from his side of the table and walked towards. “which house did you get?” he hadn’t seen her at the Gryffindor table and after his sorting he hadn’t paid attention anymore.
…Mr Hyland? ….That definitely turned his attention to the Professor and he raised an sliiiight eyebrow as the man saluted him. “You know my name already?” he asked as he stared at Professor Flamsteed impressively. Ah, so this man was his Head of House? that explained a lot. “Thank you Professor.” His face flushed a little at the congratulations. “Is a Head of House a boss or something?” he obviously wasn’t familiar with all the rules and whatnot yet, especially because Charms school was nothing compared to Hogwarts. “And do you also teach a subject here or are you just a boss man? ….Professor?” he added.
Looking at the stones at the table again, Yoongi wondered what this best investment was. He had heard Hady asking about adoption. He picked a black colored stone and the little eyes rolled around. To his eyes, this was very adorable and for a second he forgot that it was ….a stone…a simple stone… He held the stone to his face and looked up at the Professor “This stone looks cute like me right?” he eye-smiled. “What can they do?” they had to be magical stones right?

Awh, this girl (Freya) seemed friendly. She was new, wasn't she? Adi had never seen her around... not that he knew EVERYONE who attended Hogwarts. "Heya! Decided on which rock you want as yet?'' Here was another chance to make another friend and he was going to snap it up.
....................
She was rather surprised when the student (Adi) that was being loud earlier, continued speaking to her. It was not always easy for her to interact with people, but she felt she was doing a good job of it today. The strikingly sleek ones on the right side of the table had drawn her in and she knew which one it would be. She gently picked up a large, smooth black one that was slightly different from the others. "This one , I think. He looks toad friendly." Or at least, she thought it should be a 'he'? He, she....it? She was just going to go with he unless the Professor corrected her.
[QUOTE=sweetpinkpixie;11749400]That was an excellent question.
"Thank you very much Professor. This is the most informative adoption fair that I have ever been to." Not that......she had ever been to one. So, what she said was true. She had a feeling that it might be encouraging to him to add that though. "If I may, I think I must adopt this fellow here then." She delicately petted the shiny black rock in her hand with one finger.
Ilia wasn't quite sure what had happened at first and was very surprised. Henric did know the other boy (Adi) after all, and he was standing up for him. She didn't fully understand points, how many were in relation to anything, or how bad that reduction was.....but it couldn't be a good thing. Poor Henric was stuttering and it seemed unfair. She felt a bit guilty in this, he probably wouldn't have even been over here if it wasn't for her telling him that she would be. He was her first friend in this country and she couldn't just stand there and let him get in trouble without trying. The tall , blonde fourteen year old looked up at the Professor imploringly with the prettiest blue puppy eyes she could muster. "Pardon me, Professor Flamsteed Sir." She had heard the students referring to him as that. "I'm very sorry that what he said seemed offensive to Miss Pebbles and her lovely choice of style, but he didn't mean it in that way. Not everyone can pull off that color as she can and I think he only meant it wouldn't look right on our toad like it does on her." Ilia was often a very quiet girl that rarely spoke more than necessary, but for Henric she found her voice. However silly any of it might have seemed to her later, her apology and explanation were very sincere and she hoped that it might, just possibly, mean something to the Professor.
This was a surprising day for Ilia. The boy she had met in the ice cream parlor had not only greeted her, but walked over to her. She supposed he might not dislike her as much as she thought he might. She watched him get sorted , a Gryffindor , the lion house....red and gold colors. Maybe he was too excited to watch the rest of the sortings? "It seems I am in Slytherin." She was in the house of snakes, silver and green. "Congratulations on being in Gryffindor." She bowed politely. People here seemed to expect more than only an answer to the question that they asked, so she tried. People here seemed very strange to her.

....
So what did ya think, Professor?!
...
And he would laugh. Accordingly. Most likely. It was probably a guarantee that he WOULD laugh...and if it were any other Hufflepuff he would then assume that the boy had fallen victim to a well placed hex during a duel.
"Spoiler alert, Mr. Rehman. But life is not fair," he winked. So wear a helmet and deal with the blows. The astronomer certainly had. Still was, actually, with every single shuttle launch. "I will make no such thing nor will I endorse it." Honestly. Hufflepuffs. "But need I remind you that the Headmistress said at the end of last term that Cartography Club would continue?" Or was the prefect selling Hogwarts and her secrets short? Hmmm? Merlin knew what discoveries there would be this term, so until then - and hopefully until his post at Hogwarts was finished - he would not have to deal with THAT headache. And he had great confidence in the Fat Lady as well. Charming portrait, truly.
"Very good, you're all set," he saluted, placing the young man's rock of choice into its carrier and handing it over along with an owner's manuel (vintage, by the way) and some rock candy. "Congratulations. You are now the proud owner of a pet rock."
Squint. SQUINT. SQUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUINT.
Counting backwards from ten in his head, in Klingon, the Astronomy professor tried one of Medea's suggested breathing techniques before he spoke again. "Apology," he said firmly, folding his arms across his chest and glancing back and forth between the Hufflepuff and Pebbles. She didn't see terribly upset by the whole thing. "...accepted."
The tightness of his brow and stern features suddenly softened, as if someone had flicked their wand and made it so. His blue eyes nonchalantly glazed over the students who had come to reassure the Hufflepuff - a touching scene, of course - and he simply shook his head. "No matter the intent, all words and actions have their consequences," he calmly replied. "The comroderie I see here is quite stellar, by the way, but you," he turned towards Mr. Nicolei now. "Will meet me at my office after your last class of the day tomorrow to discuss how to rectify all misgivings that have occurred this evening."
"Good evening, Miss Mancini," he greeted the Ravenclaw. "Well, the good news is that all of these rocks have been trained in the art of parchment and textbook place holding. Which means they will more than willingly assist you with your studying." He glanced down at the pet rock in question and smiled. "A fine choice, indeed. Although you may need to show a bit of patience with her when studying and not fault her should a parchment or two escape her watchful googly eyes."
She was a bit smaller than some of the others, after all.
It seemed that no matter how many times he corrected Mr. Dane, the Gryffindor never seemed quite able to drop the sir when greeting the astronomer. But again, he would do so.
"Just Professor Flamsteed will do," he chuckled, his blue eyes widening at the eager young man's words. ALL?! He nearly clutched his heart with shock. "I'll tell you what, Mr. Dane. I'll take you up on that offer come end of term if not all of these have found new homes." He would hate to deny anyone the opportunity to adopt from these and creating new ones just seemed irresponsible. "You can, however, adopt one of your choice now."
So, which would it be? Hmmm?
...
"But of course," he beamed, gingerly handing the rock over to the Slytherin. "Oh yes. Just sign your name here (http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/cosmicgryffindor/SS_SchoolRPG/PET%20ROCK%20ADOPTION%20FAIR/adoptionform.jpg) at the bottom after reading over the plegde."
If he was the sentimental sort, he would be wiping away tears from his eyes. This young man had shown such a genuine curiosity and inquisitive passion for rock care...it was quite the first impression!
"I would apologize for the formalities," he mused, rubbing the back of the next while looking down at the rocks. "But they are a necessity between professor and student." Which also answered his first question. "If you prefer I can call you Mr. Bronwyn, however." Since that was apparently the actual last name of the young man.
"They are the ultimate pet for the busy student, not needing to be fed, walked, bathed, or groomed unless you, as the owner, wish to do so. Nor will they die, become sick, or be disobedient. And, if I do say so myself, are stellar listeners." Parent and pet rock groups though, now that was something he had not thought about. Interesting. "Actually, as I was telling Miss Mancini just a moment ago, they are all trained as parchment and textbook place holders. Perfect study partners."
...
The astronomer smirked.
"But of course. I payed special attention to your sorting." Gryffindor, after all. The man was only slightly biased towards such things. A boss? He supposed that was one way of putting it, but not entirely correct. "As Gryffindor Head of House, it means I am responsible for all students and their actions who have been sorted into it. I also serve as an academic and personal adviser to students."
Get it? Got it? Stellar.
"I teach Astronomy, as a matter of fact," he said, his tone implying that it explained his fascination with rocks completely. Because it did, if one was familiar with how the astronut thought that is. But he merely raised an eyebrow at the cute comment and loosened his tie a little. "They," he said, clearing his throat a bit. "...can be and do anything that you wish."
As long as you were willing to use your imagination a little, of course.

He was not sure if this young woman had a bit of brown on her nose, or whether her words were genuine. It could be quite difficult to get a proper reading on Slytherin students - he ought to know, he had grown up with one for a sister - but he was very much flattered nonetheless.

"But of course," he beamed, gingerly handing the rock over to the Slytherin. "Oh yes. Just sign your name here at the bottom after reading over the plegde."
Hady grinned instantly as her new Pet Rock was placed in the palm of her hand. Perfect. His size was just right as he fit into her hand like he was meant to be there. The lovely green color was simply amazing as was the silver of his mouth and bushy eyebrows. Really a rock couldn't get any cuter then this one right here.
Cradling her new pet in her hand gently she accepted the adoption pledge. "Of course Professor." She agreed instantly, sidestepping out of the way of the others that were looking at the pets. Now out of the way she began to read of the pledge carefully. When she had read everything she laid it down on an empty corner of the table and grabbing a spare quill she neatly signed her name and dated it...also adding just below it a space for her pets name as well. Elvis.
Yup that was his name. Elvis the King of Rock. And a King he was going to be!
With a happy grin still in place she held out the parchment to the Professor. "Here you go Professor all read, signed and dated." Was she finished or was there anything else she had to do? Oh wait she had a question! "Where can I get Elvis here a cool leash like Pebbles has or do I make him one on my own?" Serious question here! She couldn't have her new pet getting lost or running away now, could she?

Henric lifted his head when llia spoke out for him too. Did the sorting hat misplaced her? She should have been in Gryffindor or a Hufflepuff at the very least. Rarely he had seen students from her house stick out for one another. He didn't expect it at all, he felt truly touched by both his friends siding with him on this matter. He also felt ashamed to be seen like that, it was llia first day in Hogwarts and already Henric made a mess out of things.
Furthermore, Professor Flamsteed still thought of him as being rude and insolent even after accepting his apology. Henric wished he didn't make light of his grand collection and beloved pet rocks, clearly they meant more to him than anything else in the world. When Professor Flamsteed turned to him, he couldn't help but react in attention, his hands still firmly placed behind him,"Yes,professor?"he responded promptly.
As soon as the professor given him the instructions to meet him at his office tomorrow,Henric nodded his head solemnly,"Yes, sir...I will come." He now understood what the professor meant when he told them, "all words and actions have its consequences". Henric was certain, he wasn't going to look forward for tomorrow...he really didn't want to know what punishment Professor Flamsteed had in store for him.

"Its awesome to meet you, Yoongi. I'm Aditya but everyone calls me Adi.'' The Puffer grinned. "It's the best,'' he said fondly of his second home. Or was it his first home since he lived here most of the days of the year? "You should see it at Christmas time. The decorations make it look even better.'' Yoongi would be in for a treat. "So, have you decided which rock pet you want? I like the one with the big orange grin.'' He really was thinking of getting that one.
Toad friendly? "Do you have a toad?'' Adi asked with the girl interest. "I have one. His name is Gus.'' He didn't have his little amphibian friend with him at present because he had loaned him to Emmy back at the Hufflepuff table. Oh, yeah. Adi should probably introduce himself, right? "I'm Aditya but since it's a mouthful, call me Adi.''
.....................
Life was indeed unfair. Flamsteed was being a spoilsport. Hehe. Why could they not have a passage to new passage? "Do you reckon the Headmistress would allow that though?" If not Flamsteed, maybe the red head lady would be up for this idea. :shifty: But...
*HEADSMACK*
"I had totally forgotten about that, Professor! All hope is not lost!'' Wheeee! Adi was feeling even more OPTIMISTIC as usual. Dear old Hogwarts, don't disappoint him. And if he was disappointed... he would sneak in through a window from the Gryffindor Tower using Benny in dragon form to fly up there. HEHE. Shhhh. Don't tell any Professor that. Especially NOT Professor Bellaire.
Woot! His very own pet rock! "Thanks, Professor! Welcome to the family, little rock!'' The immediate family that consisted of himself and Guster. "I need to find you a cool name.'' He would think of that later but for now, he would accepted the manual and the rock candy. Mmmm. Candy. Nom nom.
............................
Of course Adi would always be among those who would stick up for Henric. Had people seen what fast friends they had become? :x3: He looked from the other Hufflepuff to Flamsteed. What was the man planning?! Certainly not detention? "Don't worry about it, Henric. I once called Professor Flamsteed 'old' back in my second year and he took five points from me too.'' In Adi's defense, Flamsteed had been old since it had been around that time that the weird aging epidemic had struck.

Eden was here for the pet rock. She was done with Gabriel's presence, with Benzi's...with everyone's, really.
Pet Rock.
Then bed.
She wasn't hungry.
"Professor? Professor? I'm in need of a pet rock--" she said quickly, not really paying attention to other students. Because if she did, she might SNAP.

Aegis slightly frowned when Flamsteed told him No, that was just a very polite No. Aegis could tell. He was shot down by his Savior The Almighty Flamsteed. "You serious?" He still asked as he started to peruse the rocks up for adoption. No....no...not that one, not yet...he'll take that one later if Flamsteed holds up his end of the Deal, no, no, no...

Eden sighed and just waved halfheartedly at him. "Hi, Aegis..." she said softly. "Not feeling so cheery right now. My summer was, though..." but summer was all gone now. How sad.
"Are you adopting a pet rock, too?" How cute...she thought the whole IDEA of it was cute...she could use a pet rock. Easy upkeep and whatnot. "How was your summer, then? Holding up all right?" She couldn't even remember the last time she talked to Aegis...and she DID hope he was all right. Kid was super nice.

"Actually, as I was telling Miss Mancini just a moment ago, they are all trained as parchment and textbook place holders. Perfect study partners."
Roo nodded, and smiled a little more at the Professor almost apologetically in case he thought that Rooney correcting him about his name was rude. "Mama works with people who call me Mr. Bronwyn, also." And so did the lady that visited over the summer to talk about his real dad. "You can call me what you'd like though. I don't mind, Sir." He was actually worried that he may get an ego of some sort if he was addressed so formally at school. Rooney knew one 'Mr. Bronwyn', and that was Daddy Dex. He'd converse with Calliope later.
Rooney looked between the adult before him and 'Miss Mancini', aka TIA! Grinning, grinning, grinning at her because she'd been nice enough to check on him back at the table. "Is there any suggested or required reading?" Was adopting a rock going to require homework also? Roo wasn't sure of the schedule here at Hogwarts yet, but he was certain that he would have many pieces of homework to do, and probably questions upon questions to find out the answer to. Not much time to dilly daddle in rock homework.
Unless it was vital for his rock's development, because he did want one.
"I'd like a rock please, Mister!"

Squint.
He glanced down at her selection. "A stellar choice," he saluted, reaching for another one of the adoption pledges (http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/cosmicgryffindor/SS_SchoolRPG/PET%20ROCK%20ADOPTION%20FAIR/adoptionform.jpg) and handing it to her. He was not sure if this young woman had a bit of brown on her nose, or whether her words were genuine. It could be quite difficult to get a proper reading on Slytherin students - he ought to know, he had grown up with one for a sister - but he was very much flattered nonetheless.
Ilia accepted the form she was handed gracefully and nodded her head politely. "Thank you, Professor." She read the form, with small surprise and signed it. He really did seem to take it very seriously and she tried to at least seem as though she did. She signed it in her loopy handwriting and returned it with another. "Thank you." Yay, princess would have a pet rock / friend.
Ilia was surprised at his curiosity and .....he had a toad too? This was somewhat perfect seeming. He was already Henric's friend and he had a toad that might be able to be friends with princess. "I sort of, co-parent a toad." She smiled apologetically, it sounded like a complicated situation. "Gus is a cute name. Ours is usually called 'Princess Charlotte'." She smiled shyly, she wasn't going to go into the full lengthy name unless Henric wanted to chime in. She had a feeling he wouldn't after the loss of points though. Oh, that introduction type thing that polite people were supposed to do. She may need to get a bit better about that whole thing. "Nice to meet you Adi. You may call me Ilia." She paused a moment to think about it. In class and when she was sorted they used her first name, she might need to clarify that part....."My first name is Freya though." Hopefully that didn't sound entirely awkward.

...
Pausing for a moment to give Miss Lynch a round of applause for her adoption. "Oh, well this one I purchased at a muggle pet shop in London, but I suppose Professor Thompson may have some spares lying around that you could borrow until you can take a proper trip to a pet store."
Or he supposed he could have simply just duplicated the one Pebbles was using now, but better to use what was already in existence than rely on magic for a quick fix.
He offered the young man another small nod, his smile gentle but firm. "Stellar. Once you have completed a few tasks, we can perhaps re-examine you adopting a pet rock. Should you wish to do so, that is." Which was a polite way of informing him that, as it stood now, he could not go through the process. Not just yet.
....
"You could always request an audience with the Headmistress and ask her yourself," he suggested, his tone slightly laced with sarcasm while being heavily mixed with encouragement. Mostly because he would like to see how the red head would handle such a request. And, with the the way the portraits gossiped these days mixed with students' loose tongues, he was bound to find out about it eventually.
And then...the astronomer felt like smacking his large forehead with what the prefect said next. Remember how the professor had just said words had consequences? The prefect would do well remembering them. "And I have no problem repeating said actions, Mr. Rehman," he stated, his eyes narrowing slightly.
No problem what so ever.
"Miss McGee! But of course," he grinned at the Ravenclaw. "Any of them speak to you specifically?"
"Sir yes sir! Can I call you Almighty then....sir?" Professor Almighty Flamsteed did role off the tongue better than Sir.
Almighty? What? Why?
"Uh...I'm...er...flattered...I think...but I'm going to go with no," he said, stumbling on his words. "But please, can we stop with the 'sir'. That is a word previously reserved for my father and commander."
The Gryffindor was a little...intense, yeah?
He nodded. "Standard procedure, Mr. Dane. Nothing personal. Just trying to ensure equal opportunity to all."
I don't mind, Sir." "I'd like a rock please, Mister!"
The astronomer chuckled. "I'll go with Mr. Bronwyn for now," he nodded. It was the young man's mother's request, apparently, and therefore only proper that he do so. "Well, each rock comes with an owner's manual. It is quite short, really. Probably be able to read it cover to cover while waiting for the staircases to move in accordance to your desired location." It was mostly pictures an bullet points anyway. "All fairly straight forward as well. Nothing to be too terribly worried about."
He made a grand gesture over the rocks.
"Which luck rock will it be then, Mr. Bronwyn?"
Ilia accepted the form she was handed gracefully and nodded her head politely. "Thank you, Professor." She read the form, with small surprise and signed it. Airey gave the young Slytherin a round of applause as he had done the others. "Congratulations!"
Checking his sundial watch, his blue eyes widened and moved like two glowing comets towards the interior of the Great Hall. He needed to start wrappin things up.
"Last call to sign adoption pledges!"

Hady grinned happily once everything was signed and finished. Elvis was now officially hers! He was about to become one spoiled rock!
Ah those were both good ideas. Or she could always owl her father and ask him to pick her up one. That could work also. Options. That's now what the young new pet owner had. "Thank you Professor, I may just do that." She smiled once more holding Elvis carefully as she gathered up the rest of his adoption kit before heading off back to the feast but not before speaking once more.
"Thanks again Professor. See you in class!"

Ah excellent. So a pet rock was a superb choice in aiding for her intensive study plans this year. "We'll most definitely keep that in mind," Tia smiled fondly at the blue-haired one and picked it up and held it in the palm of her left hand.
So was she good to go? Oh no wait, there was some paper she had to sign. Setting the chosen rock into its new home, she pulled one of the papers towards her and signed away, 'TiaMarie Mancini' and wrote its new name of 'Azure' on top of the paper as well.
"Thanks Professor! I'm sure Azure will be of great asset to my work this year!" the fifth year exclaimed after handing the Astronomy professor her signed form.
With pet rock in one hand, the fifth year headed back towards the tables.

There went two very satisfied new pet rock owners. He honestly wondered why he had not attempted this sort of thing previously. He would have to make sure to thank Miss Wright for giving him the nudge in this absolutely stellar direction later.
"Enjoy!" he waved after the pair of them.
