Post Ancient Runes Noticeboard

credit to Govoni for the banner

Right outside what used to be the Ancient Runes Office there is a large noticeboard affixed to the wall. The wooden frame has runes carved all over it but the most important aspect is that the board itself is where you will find all the information you need to keep organized on your Ancient Runes learning journey, including class schedules, the curriculum, and any announcements.

It is your responsibility to keep informed! Not knowing when your lessons are held is no excuse for tardiness or for being ill-prepared.

SPOILER!!: Required Equipment

Quote:
ooc: Note that this is just for IC reference, particularly important is the learning journal which Professor Beryl requires all students to have. If you have questions you can send me a PM.
Students Need to Bring:
  • rune set (wood, stone, or bone). Please speak with the professor for assistance if you do not have your own set.
  • leather-bound learning journal (with your favourite rune or bindrune on the front cover and a one page explanation of why you chose that rune or bindrune written on the back page)
  • runecasting cloth in white or burlap. It may be blank or stitched/embroidered with guides, but should not contain any writing.
  • rune dictionary you must have your own and you are encouraged to make additions and annotations to your dictionary.
  • assigned textbooks for your year level
  • two quills - one for black or blue ink, and one for red.
  • spare parchment (finished work to be stuck into your learning journal after marking)

The professor will provide:
  • hand outs & worksheets to be stuck into learning journals when completed
  • extra reference books beyond the current textbook
  • carving and rune-making tools for creating ones own rune set
  • raw materials if applicable
  • spare ink in black and in red

SPOILER!!: Curriculum

Quote:
ooc: Note that this is just for IC reference. The two RP'd lessons this term are the general all ages 'seminar' type lessons. That's why everyone is in together! For the rest of the runes learning, students are divided by year groups. If at any time you want to know what your kiddo would be learning feel free to flick me a PM

1st - 3rd years (Beginners)
As Runes is an elective class and most students do not begin their full rune study until third year, any first and second year students who wish to take runes beyond the general seminar classes attend with the third year beginners twice per week. They attend their classes two times per week plus the general seminar once per month.
Monday 10am- 10:55am
Thursday 2:05pm - 3pm

3rd-4th years (Continuing)
The third years who have already completed the beginner portion of their rune study attend with the fourth years. 4th year students may attend this level of class if they have received at least an acceptable at the beginner level. 3rd year students who attend this class must have at least an Exceeds Expectations at the beginner level. They attend their classes two times per week plus the general seminar once per month.
Monday 11am-11:55am
Friday 9am-9:55am

5th years/OWL Students (Intermediate)
OWL students attend their own set of classes that are specific to the OWL exams at the end of the school term. OWL students are encouraged to take on a rune project in addition to their regular learning. Those who do not take on a rune project instead are expected to work on extra translation and transcription work to support their OWL prep. In order to attend OWL level classes, students must have achieved at least an E in their end of year exam in fourth year unless arranged directly with Professor Beryl. They attend three lessons per week (including one double lesson) and the general seminar lesson once per month. OWL students are encouraged to make use of at least one study session outside of their class hours.
Tuesday 1:05pm -3pm (double runes)
Thursday 1:05pm - 2pm
Friday 10am -10:55am

6th & 7th years/NEWT Students (Advanced)
NEWT students attend their own set of classes that are specific to the NEWT exams at the end of the 7th year school term. This means that sixth years who attend the NEWT level classes instead take general exams at the end of the term which should be viewed as practice for NEWTs. In 6th year, NEWT students are expected to take on a rune project in addition to their regular learning. 7th year NEWT students may opt to undertake a rune project OR extra translation and transcription work to support their NEWT prep. Sixth years must pass their exams in order to continue in the NEWT level class. at LEAST an E in OWLs is required to attend these lessons unless arranged directly with Professor Beryl. They attend three lessons per week (including one double lesson) and the general seminar lesson once per month. NEWT students are expected to make use of at least one study session outside of their class hours.
Monday 1:05pm -2pm
Wednesday 9:00am - 10:55am (double runes)
Friday - 2:05pm - 3pm

SPOILER!!: Professor Beryl's schedule

Her office is also currently located in the Hospital wing if your character needs to speak with her. If you have questions you can send me a PM.

Ancient Runes Lesson 1

Be sure to bring all necessary equipment, and take the time to read the introductory chapter of your textbook prior to your arrival. You should be able to give a working answer to the question "what is 'Ancient Runes'?" and be prepared to have your definition and understanding expanded over the course of the school year.

Please familiarize yourself with the classroom rules.

OOC: Your first Ancient Runes lesson is now open. It will run from May 4 - 13. This is an all ages class and the first with Professor Beryl. If you have any questions feel free to PM Tegz

Ancient Runes Lesson 2

Please bring your rune journals, quill pen and spare parchment, and any of your equipment that you still have with you. For those of you who do not have a set of runes anymore or have left it behind in the evacuation, do not worry - runes will be provided for this runecasting practice session.

Please familiarize yourself with the classroom rules.

OOC: Your second Ancient Runes lesson is now open. Please remember your students have been attending runes lessons all term at this point! This lesson is timed AFTER the mist evacuation and the lesson is at Puddifoots in Hogsmeade. If you have any questions feel free to PM Tegz
