semi-catchup SPOILER!!: Claudine <3 Heath hated being confused! He was a Ravenclaw, for Merlin's sake! Ravenclaws were supposed to have all the answers. He listened to the professor, hoping things would make more sense soon. Oh, Ehwaz… the rune associated with movement. That explained the dancing (sort of). Couldn't a less silly form of movement have served the same purpose though? Try as he might, Heath couldn't think of a single thing to say about Ehwaz that his classmates hadn't already. He kept quiet during that discussion, jotting down notes on the others' answers, but he instantly perked up when he heard the instructions for the next activity. Racing was much more his speed (no pun intended) than dancing! The only thing that would make it better was if they got to actually build their own cars for the race. Heath didn't have to look far for a partner. He chuckled softly as Claudine poked him. "Always," he replied, smiling. His eyes momentarily* flicked to the instructions written on the board, and he said, "So I guess we should practice the galdr." |
SPOILER!!: Howdy, partner <3 Of course he’d always be her partner. Claudine expected nothing different because she knew him all too well. She quickly copied down the Galdr in her book for future reference as much as for practice. “You looked a bit confused earlier. Did you not understand something?” Her eyes flicked from her book to Heath. The Ravenclaw usually understood things a lot quicker than she did at times but if he needed help with something, Claudine would try her best. With the Galdr noted in her book, Claudine eyed it. “I hate chanting these things. They sound so weird.” This was whispered to Heath. If Gunter heard, he’d probably throw her out of the lesson. But here goes nothing. “ehwo ehwo ehwo e e e e h w o o o ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu e e e e h w o o o.” Yes, Claudine felt foolish with every syllable she uttered. Whatever. The Galdr wasn’t that difficult to practice. |
Ivy? Violet looked around at Ivy, who was still standing near her, and asked, "Partners?" Violet was actually pretty good at galdor and was anxious to make up for her earlier inattention during the discussion. (OOC: Sorry I've been gone a lot this week, I'm back now) |

As Professor Gunter used his wand to pull off a cover to something in the class and it looked something like...a racetrack? Oh, that's pretty interesting. and looking at the cars he also had for the activity. This WAS gonna be fun. Looking around the class, "Anyone want to partner up for this?" Not really sure who was gonna answer or anything, but it was worth a shot to see who would. A racetrack. Noah wasn't at all too keen with the thing, although if he was still a ten-year-old like Nugget, this would've been fascinating, and he'd be super competitive with it, even if it really wasn't supposed to be a race. Sure thing was Noah's starting to grow into a young man, and it would take more than a racetrack and a derby to keep him interested. BUT, for the sake of his godfather and his love for Runes, Noah made the effort to look interested with the activity. After choosing his derby, which was the X-Wing model, he'd sauntered to the next student who called out for a partner. "Me," hello, hi. Noah wasn't particularly choosy with partners, and it was kind of cool to be able to partner up with someone he wasn't totally familiar with. Aibhillinn was one of those students. So...what's next? |
Quote:
Compromising worked, yeah! "How did that incantation or word thing he said go again? Something like ee-i-ee-i-o?" joked Lisa with a wicked, wicked smirk. She knew well enough that Professor Gunter HADN'T SAID that but she was wondering if anyone would try doing that cause she said it. It obviously was ehwo like EH - WOAH... ooooor was it more EH-WOW. OR EH-WOO! "Ollie, is it eh-wow, eh-woah, or eh-wooooo?" What was the correct pronunciation? |
Also Misa! Quote:
Oh, and there was Violet! "Yeah, sure!" She smiled, and upon catching sight of Misa as well, she waved to get her attention and motioned for her to join her and Violet. "I'm not very good at this though, so we might be better with three of us." Professor Gunter had said they could have a group of three after all, so the more the merrier, yeah? And hopefully the whole strength in numbers thing would make up for her own lackluster abilities here. |
Quote:
"I KNOW there is! There is a potion and a spell AND one of the runes influences physical growth...we could totally figure something out." Was it obvious that he was giddy with this project and experimentation? It was, perhaps, the most excited he had been about school since he had started Hogwarts. "We need too practice the galdr first though," he nodded while raising his voice back to a normal level. "Best to start with pick a rhythm for us to keep the pace with...like...uh..." Atlas started tapping his foot and hitting his thigh to a beat. "Something like this?" he asked, keeping his words in line with the beat. |
Quote:
But, they could be far, far away. Quinn grinned—they totally could figure something out. They would just.... have to talk the professor into letting them do it. That shouldn't be too hard, right? He nodded in agreement before focusing more on the lesson. He watched Atlas's rhythm, then started nodding his head and tapping his foot. "I think this works..." he said, trying to keep his words on rhythm, but they sort of fell off. He listened for a bit longer, and when he felt he had a good grasp on the beat he spoke. "Alright. 3... 2... 1... ehwo ehwo ehwo, e e e e h w o o o, ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo, ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu, e e e e h w o o o." He did his best to keep up with the rhythm, hoping that Atlas would be synced up with him. But he wasn't sure if he missed a beat at some point—he didn't think he did? |
SPOILER!!: Partner <3 Heath was busy flipping through his textbook for the page on Ehwaz when Claudine asked that question. He blinked as he looked up, unsure how to respond. He understood how to use Ehwaz, but the rest of it… the dancing, the horse story, some of the rune's symbolic meanings… all of it just seemed so random. Not wanting to get caught criticizing the subject in front of Gunter, he replied, "Is it really that obvious?" He had to stifle a laugh at the words she whispered in his ear. She was right; Galdrs did sound weird! He didn't know why, but this particular one reminded him of the "E-I-E-I-O" part in Old MacDonald. "I know," he whispered back. "This one sounds like a muggle song about farm animals." Consulting his textbook, he recited the Galdr, trying to keep in unison with Claudine, "Ehwo ehwo ehwo e e e e h w o o o ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu e e e e h w o o o.” When he was done, he looked to her and asked, "Shall we try the racetrack now? Or do you think we need more practice?" |
Quote:
Violet saw Ivy motion Misa to join them. That was the girl who'd taken exception to her assumptions about Muggles in that Muggle Studies class. Violet hoped that wouldn't cause a problem now. Violet had been uncharacteristically vocal this year, but she was beginning to think that voicing your opinions was only likely to get you into trouble and that her default tendency to keep her thoughts to herself was the better plan after all. |
SPOILER!!: H <3 Had Heath’s bewilderment been that obvious? To her, yes. But she understood why he was confused now. “Maybe not to others but I know you,’’ Claudine told him simply. “Perhaps the lesson plan made a lot more sense in the Professor’s head.” Farm animals? Claudine actually started to laugh; softly, of course. “You’ll have to sing that to me.’’ There were a lot of things Muggle related that she was oblivious about. They always worked so well together, didn’t they? The Snakette could find no mistakes with their recitation of the galdr. At least not to her untrained ears. “I think we’re good to go,’’ she said, looking up at him. Listen, Claudine was excited to try out the racing, okay? “Can we please, please get the Cheese Wheelz?’’ She led the way to the top of the stage as Gunter had instructed. There was almost a child-like manner about her because of her excitement. |
Quote:
e e e e h w o o o ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu e e e e h w o o o'" She was glad that her friends could. bring a smile to her face. Some of the older students seemed really sad and uninterested in laughing sometimes. Okay, Time to pick a car! Ollie grabbed Lisa's hand and tugged her up to the cars. Ollie looked around eyeing each one. She realllllyyy liked the shark car and hoped Lisa felt the same. "Which car do you like?" Should she tell Lisa which one she wanted or should she wait for Lisa to ask? Or would Lisa even ask? It was a very Lisa thing to not ask Ollie. She reminded herself that it wasn't a big deal to get the car you wanted for a silly school activity. But she did really want that shark. |
Quote:
She then followed Ollie to the cars, letting herself be dragged along and then focused on the cars ahead of the two. Ooh there were certainly very INTERESTING CARS HERE!!! She flicked her eyes back and forth as Ollie asked her which one she preferred. “The shark. It has spunk. You good with that one?” |

It helped that Atlas was the sort to hyperfocus. Once class ended however..maybe his mind would slow down and pieces fall a little more into place instead of being forced into place. While the Gryffindor may have two left feet, he apparently wasn't so bad at this part. Probably came from the family sing-alongs to showtunes dad forced them through now and then. Along with the more than occasional trip to the Phoenix Theater and West End. When Quinn began to chant, Atlas stopped on instinct to listen...and then remembered that he was meant to chant too and started where he had left off. Which meant for the first couple of seconds Atlas was e e e e e h - ing when he should have been w o o o - ing, and ehwe-ing when he ought to have been ehwa-ing. Laughing nervously, cheeks rosy and hand ruffling through his hair, Atlas ceased his own vocalizations while maintaining his thigh pat and listened to Quinn and waited for the opportune moment to chime back in. "....ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu, e e e e h w o o o." And he was smiling comfortably as they hit that last vowel, though that pink had spread and intensified across his cheeks and to his ears. "Yeah..I think we've got it." Lifts his hand for a high five. "Now let's go get that Silver Chariot!" |
Remy decided to take the lead with the activity, since she just wanted to get it done so the class would be over. She was feeling a little grumpy, so wasn't really in the mood for talking, although she was careful not to take her bad mood out on V. Nothing to do with her, and Remy didn't want to get on anyone's bad side. She read through the words on the board in her head to start with. Remy then wrote the words down as reference: Quote:
The tricky part... "Ehwu... ehwa... ehwu, no... ehwi..." GAH... this was annoyingly difficult. Why couldn't they just do this on their own? "Ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo." She had that part down, now just to reverse it. "Eh... wo... ehwo ehwa ewhi ehwe ehwo..." Remy THOUGHT she had it right. The last few sounds were simple so Remy didn't bother saying those out loud. "I think I’ve got it. Shall we try pronouncing it together??" Remy asked V. But she was itching to choose the cheese car for the next part of the activity. |
Apollo frowned because it seemed like there was some sort of inside jokes going on between Lia and Tadgh (hadn't he said that? He'd been preoccupied to realize he'd used a nickname but goodness that slytherin boy was TOUCHY!). Also apparently didn't want to dance with him as a group??? So weird? What did he think this was ... some romantic dance? But as quickly as the dancing crazy started, it was time to settle down and focus and how were they meant to focus when Professor Gunter was giving them a LONG STORY clearly meant to put them all to sleep. Wait, was this meant to tire them out??? The second year didn't quite catch much of anything in regards the noble steed or the relationship with runes, but one thing he was certain of was about the dancing like crazy. It was probably to get the zoomies out, since that was like an AGE OLD trick adults like to use on kids when they were acting crazy was to let them be crazy for a few minutes. Or uh.... apparently they were talking about ehwaz? Goodness, Apollo really needed to read his rune textbook. Perhaps he should partner with Quinn for a study session later because Apollo did take notice of that praise he was getting from Professor Gunter. Apollo stared with envy at the ravenclaw because wowwwwwww!!! It was his thoughts that had him completely distracted and missing the next question about attributes and ehwaz and truth be told, Apollo wasn't sure he would have a good answer anyway. Did Lia and Tadgh want to be a trio group? Did they just want to partner with each other? Whichever was the case, Apollo would just wait and practice his galdr recitation so he didn't act like a complete idiot when his turn to race came up. "ehwo ehwo ehwo, e e e e h w o o o, ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo, ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu" Weird. Just a bunch of sounds, wasn't it? Was it time to race yet?? Was that a BATMOBILE!?!? but the thunder car looked cool too??? Or the Shark one with FLAMES?!? |
SPOILER!!: C <3 Whew, that was a relief! Heath would hate for everyone in the room, especially the professor, to know how confused he was. He smiled, nodding. Yes, she did know him… better than anyone, even his own family. As for the lesson, it would have to make more sense in the professor’s head than it did in his own! “You’re right on both counts,” he replied. A quiet chuckle escaped him as he heard her laugh. “Okay,” he said, and he began to sing very softly in her ear: “Old MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O…” The last bit he sang as if reciting a Galdr. But that was enough joking around. They had work to do! Heath wasn’t sure if they said the Galdr right or not, but he trusted Claudine’s judgement. She was a lot better at Ancient Runes than him! He followed her to the stage, smiling at her childlike excitement. He was excited too! As for which car, he was partial to the X-wing himself because Star Wars reference, but seeing Claudine happy was more important. “Cheese Wheelz it is!” he replied, picking up the racer. “It’s a shame we don’t have a toy mouse to be the driver…” How cute would that be? A little mouse driving a cheese car! What were they supposed to do next? Heath glanced at the directions on the board. “So now we say the Galdr again, I suppose…” Then another thought occurred to him. “When the time comes, do you want to put the car on the track or should I?” |
SPOILER!!: Stefan Looking over hearing a reply to her...huh...this was definitely unexpected. She definitely was not one to really partner up with anyone and even if she asked, a lot wouldn't really reply to the Seventh Year. Don't know if they were intimidated by her, maybe it was her resting Draven face, or it was just the fact she was a Seventh Year and wasn't really a social one at that, but nonetheless, she had found a partner. She gave him a little wave and nodded. "Cool. Cool, I have a partner." Approaching him, she saw the car in his hand. "Looks like a good one...let's see what we can do. We gotta try to say these words on the board..." Looking at the board, she tried reading the words as best as she can, "ehwo ehwo...ehwo...e e e e h w o o o..." She felt like a robot saying these words and chuckled to herself. "Well, this is a little difficult...what do you make out of those words?" asking her partner. |
Quote:
She turned and headed over toward the track that was set out for the cars. As badly as Ollie wanted to recite the Galdr herself, she thought it would be more polite to ask Lees if she wanted to say it instead."So... How do you wanna do this? I can say the Galdr if you want, then you can let it go! Or vise-versa." Okay she really wanted to say the Galdr. She hoped that the teacher would notice of well she could recite it, not that it was a very hard thing to do, but Ollie thrived on validation from her teachers. |
Quote:
Like weights. Couldn't they just put weights on the thing to make it go faster? Anyway. She tapped her foot in time to a simple beat. "Ehwo, ehwo, ehwo..." she said testing it out. |
SPOILER!!: Heath! <3 Claudine rubbed her nose, casually using her hand to hide the fact that she was laughing. Yes, the girl understood why Heath said the Galdr reminded him of that song. “I don’t blame you for thinking what you think.’’ Merlin. It was hilarious, okay? Oh no. She probably should have asked if he had a car in mind but in her excitement, she hadn’t thought of it. Sorry, Heath. “Is that a Muggle thing?’’ Claudine asked, picking up the Cheese Wheelz and referring to the whole mouse topic. “Yes, we chant that weird thing.’’ The Snakette held out the Wheelz for Heath to take. “That should answer your question.” Claudine eyed the track. “Ready?” Here went the chanting again. “ehwo ehwo ehwo e e e e h w o o o ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu e e e e h w o o o.” And there she was thinking about that farm song. |

And then those stupid butterflies were back. He hadn't felt them in a while, probably because he was too preoccupied with not dying, plotting escapes, appeasing his parents, staying on top of his schoolwork. Not getting them on purpose. Crushing them as soon as they popped up. But he let his guard down. His smile faltered a bit. "Y-yeah, let's do it..!" He did his best to push past it as he gave Atlas a high-five. Take a flamethrower to the stomach. No more little fluttery wings, nosirree. None as they went up and got the Silver Chariot from the front of the class and went over to the racetrack. "This.... would definitely be fun to go around in a toy car," Quinn said as he examined the track. |
Class will conclude soon Oh dear!! Oakey you Unlucky FOOL! If only he hadn't been so engrossed in the Sleipnir myth. Perhaps he could have provided his students a bit more time. They would all need to wrap up very soon. Their next classes were going to start shortly. He looked around to each of the students who were perfecting the galdr and was very pleased with their progress. Some had even begun to go to the track itself. It was a shame, but luckily for them he had plans for this track still in place. They would not be disappointed. "Brilliant work everyone. You're all doing splendidly. Make sure you enunciate the galdr. It's just as important as pronouncing a spell correctly." He moved toward the top of the stage once more from pacing among the students overlooking their progress. "We'll need to wrap up shortly. If you've not been to the track yet. Don't worry, keep practicing the galdr with your partners. Being in unison and keeping in harmony is just as important. After today you'll find the track and the gandr cars in the Study Lounge. You can all still have your chance to try the track out in there during any free time." Consider that some good proper extra credit activity time. "If you're up at the track now. Go ahead and finish your run." He swished his wand and the classroom door behind them swung open. "Don't forget to collect your bags around the Dance Floor before you leave. For Homework study the remaining Runes from the third Aett. Same one that Ehwaz is on." In case they needed that info on where the third Aett was again. "Thank you for indulging in my youthful need to Dance. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did." ___________ OOC: I bumped the class to stay open a little bit longer to give y'all some extra time to get more of the activity in, but I will be closing the class down in 12 HOURS EST. If you think you can get a run in on the track go for it before you post your students departing. Don't stress out if you can't, you can't. Like Professor Gunter said we'll have the track ready to use in the Runes Study Room right after I close this thread. Thanks for giving my first go as the AR Prof such a rewarding experience. |

"To be honest, it sounds like a muggle ambulance down an empty road. WEE WOO WEE WOO!" he said with a snort, almost taking a jab at the galdr. Couldn't blame him really because it was silly AND awkward, and it was putting a damp on his cool attitude. "But basically it just matches up with the name of the rune. Ehwaz, ehwo... wee woo wee woo thing." the Gryffindor shrugged as he turned the derby over in his hand to see the Ehwaz. "This thing should glow first... then, we can move over to the track while chanting the galdr together." that way they could get the derby going. Or maybe not, as he momentarily shifted his attention to Professor G. Noah had to agree that story-telling had been a bit long, because they haven't even got their turn at the racetrack. "Anyway, let's try the galdr at least. I suppose that's the point of the lesson." clearing his throat, Noah began to recite!sing the chant: "ehwo ehwo ehwo ... e e e e h w o o o ... ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo ... ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu ... e e e e h w o o o" Noah must've done something right as the Ehwaz started to glow. Not as bright as he'd hoped, but at least it was something. "Woohoo. Your turn," he said, offering the derby to Aibhilinn. |

Maybe a quick practice though for sure, like Misa was doing. "Ehwo ehwo ehwo," she began carefully, "e e e e h w o o o, ehwu ehwa ehwo eh- Er, wait no." What was it again? Ehwu ehwa eh... She glanced at Violet then looked over her notes too. |
