At the mention of it being debatable, Emily eyed the parchment Simon held out to her. Curious. "Well let's have a look," she mused accepting it and unfolding the slip. There wasn't much to it, and it was very vague. She could see how it could be connected, but prophecies, man... she had little faith. She read and reread the blurb a few times until the message sunk in, officially memorised and filed away in the recesses of her brain for safe keeping, just in case it would be of some use at a later date. Recall was a skill she valued. "... limited usefulness.." she concluded, because she was being honest. At least he had something to show her. Something was always better than nothing. Emily handed back the slip of parchment, he could record it and file it away, or return it. They pretty much had what they needed from it.

"How are the patrols going?" she asked, pulling up a spare chair. She could spare a few minutes to chat. She was keen to hear about his assessment of the other levels and particularly the Atrium. "Anything you think requires particular attention?"

He didn't get shot down about it, and that was a positive but the auror wasn't thinking of getting much else about the results of his trek down to the Department of Mysteries. Simon nodded in agreement at Emily's evaluation of the prophecy as she handed it back. "Unless on the slim chance the unspeakable or his collegue manage to figure it out," he mused with a shrug. He wasn't hanging his hat on it, but he himself wasn't writing it out totally.

"Alright," Simon admitted as she sat down in another chair. Requires attention...the auror glanced down at his notes as he gathered his thoughts to give the best answer. "Unfortunately nothing strictly in relation to deTalone," he finally said looking back up at Emily. "But given the fact that the people I came in contact with were rather taken aback that security was actually interested in seaching for problems, the lack of a real security presence besides the wandweighers in the atrium," cue motion out the office window towards the people in question, "might just be another reason besides the woman's escape that the division has gotten a bad rap."

If they weren't seen and appear to care about the safety and security of the ministry and employees, how could people trust them as a whole?

"Could it be possible in the years following security's dissolution into MLE that some things have been neglected?" And yes he had done his homework and knew how things used to work before he was at the ministry and security was its own department.

Yeah... slim chance. Was it even her? Could they be certain of that? Emily didn't like chance, she loathed it, it was in no way concrete evidence of anything. They were just words on a page, so cryptic, but even if the meaning of it was uncovered, she still couldn't see how it would be of use to their investigation. Unless it translated to something along the lines of: Crazy time stealing lady de Talone can be found at such and such address ready to be taken into custody and improsioned for life by the awesome MLE under Ms Browne's reign.... now that, would be a useful translation. Not going to happen.

And speaking of de Talone, she wasn't at all surprised that Simon didn't have anything else to offer her on that, but moving on. Security was high on her list of priorities, obviously... what with recruiting him. "To be expected..." Emily interjected, nodding in response to the other levels surprise at his sudden interest. Security ha been dismal. She rememebered a time not too long ago when it was fine, when it was excellent in fact, and Gabe played a big role in that, Blaise too for some time. Mmm... enough of that, she didn't do nostalgia well. "Neglect... and we've lost key staff members without so much as a replacment." That would change.

"Of course, and you're quite right, which is why I am making this a priority now," and it led to her main point, she had ideas, but she wanted to know what he thought - having now experienced being a security personnel. "What do you feel are our key areas of weakness in terms of security? What measures, do you think we should be putting in place to ensure the security of our staff and the Ministry?"

It was his turn to nod as Emily agreed with his comment of neglect. " Yes, that's bound to ruffle things up. " Simon remembered Gabriel at least during brief exchanges between the divisions during his YATI training, including the department-wide instruction. Though even he had to admit he had worked more with Dacs and her crew than security and all three areas shared the same office.

"Lack of inter-connection of problems between departments. For example ,with the zombie illness it was happening around the ministry but only came to a head and finally dealt with when situations arose in shared spaces." Or the even the much more mundane situation of the lost courtroom cushions that Level 3 had had all along. Of course there was the chance that a certain auror leader had known about it all along but that was another story. "What if, instead of sick employees there were imposters causing trouble in various areas of the ministry while pretending to be visiting from another? One occurance might seem an incident but if shared it would raise stronger flags."

Awareness would help in some way.

And now came the idea portion of the intera---line of questioning and Simon had been thinking on things while looking over what he had found or rather not found. "First...work on making reporting of incidents more well-known." Maybe using the liaisons better. "Then make the searches a little more routine...not just for special cases and events." No more surprises and ministry workers might be better aware of what was going on. "Of course, I'm aware that is a bit tricky given the limited personal at the moment but something worth at least looking into."

Ruffle things up? Surely it wasn't that bad... a few raised eyebrows, questioning stares, but ultimately it ought not to ruffle anybodies feathers at all. It was in their best interest. At any rate, the reaction from other levels didn't rate high on her priorities list, so long as they were complying and not interfering in anything. "You'll let me know if you have any trouble, won't you?" so that she could sort them out. He had a job to do, if they didn't let him do it... she wanted to know. "Any at all."

Emily listened as Simon shed some light on his views. She smoothed out a crease in her sleeve as he spoke. Communication. Yes, she was big on that, so she could agree with the point. Her nodding was indication enough that she was listening, even if her eyes shifted from him to her sleeve, then back again a few times. "Mmm, I definitely see your point," she voiced, if her nodding hadn't been enough of an indication of this, "and I share your view, to an extent... communication is key for efficiency." Without it, they'd all be a mess. And at times, they were.

And bam, he hit the nail on the head. Firstly and perhaps most importantly for her, routine patrols. It was necessary, it opened channels for communication, increased opportunities for inter-department problem solving and consulting. Such good things could come of it with the presence of familiar faces. The incident reporting was also a good point, something she already had in the works, so that got a definite thumbs up from her.
" .... I have something in the works for improved incident reporting, so some time in the near future I'd like to run it by you if you're interested?" It could never hurt to get a second, or third or fourth opinion. "And... on the topic of patrols, I'd like you to take these on full time for now. I've heard rumours of mutants and strange occurrences happening on various levels, so for the time being security is a definite priority... I'm sure the Aurors will live without you for the time being." Emily watched him expectantly, her hazel eyes locked on his waiting for his response. Were there any objections?

Another movement of his head. "Of course," he assured her. Simon wasn't about to not do his job especially not because someone tried to stop him and if they did, Emily would surely be told. And that was even before he thought about it likely being considered HIS fault if he didn't do what was expected of him. Not the person who stopped him. That was usually his luck after all, even without Legend being around to instigate trouble against him.

He took the nods as agreement, or at least understanding of what he was saying even if she seemed distracted. The auror knew enough that she was paying attention regardless of what Emily looked like. And when the department head made note of what he was saying and twisted it into her own plans for the department, Simon was inwardly relieved that for once he was apparently totally on the right track with his thoughts. To her approval too.

The talk of mutants and strange occurances gained a raised eyebrow but then they were surpassed by the order as it sunk in. Security...full time. That wasn't entirely expected, well maybe he had thought it a possibility given he had just mentioned patrols being more routine and he was technically one of the limited employees around to have to do them. "Very well..." he said with a nod, accepting the task. "In that case it seems the areas I haven't reached yet will be a bit more exciting." Seeing as the floors he had seen hadn't mentioned anything odd and he hadn't seen anything that would resemble a mutant.

Oh boy.

Good. One of the things Emily appreciated about Simon was his compliance, and he was doing a sound job at that. "Aside from the Atrium, it would be appreciated if you could check things out on level one, I hear the Minister's office is a hot-spot for odd things... memos not flying, and the like." She wasn't sure if Gavin would appreciate her sending one of her own to check things out, but considering they hadn't had much luck in terms of making headway, it couldn't hurt. "And I'd like a report of your security assessment and evaluation of level one on my desk no later than noon tomorrow," she wanted to know things, especially if there was a possibility of whatever was going on to spread to level two. The Atrium and level one aside, he knew what to do and where to go... or so she hoped.

Emily held her gaze on Simon as he seemed to nod in agreement, she didn't have anything else to add to the topic. At any rate, he had things to do, and so did she... so this impromtu meeting was over. "Any last questions?" or anything at all for that matter? Emily rose from her seat slowly.

Right...Level One.

Seemed it might be a priority and SImon debating maybe he shouldn't wait for that one last with his original search plans. "It will be there as soon as possible." As in, by her deadline, with no delay. The request making up his mind on his schedule as he didn't want to rush anything else for the sake on the minister's office. And seeing as there was actually suspecious occurances happening there rather than him just spinning his wheels like his previous targets, maybe it would be a boost in the right direction. Not to mention Level was to the holding cells as Level 9 was to the courtroom. Close proximity to the causes to the deTalone mystery.

Could be able to kill two birds with one stone.

Simon moved to stand as Emily did, writing down one final note before folding the sheets to slip into his pocket. The auror was about to answer the woman to the negative so they could both simply get back to their tasks at hand but he stopped himself instead. "Maybe you should keep an extra eye on the aurors, I mean moreso than what your already doing since we don't have a head. I trust Josh of course... and most of the others...and they can live without me as you say. But I'd rather not have anything I'm doing for security underminded by a certain YATI." Hopefully Emily had some clue as to who he was refering to. The one who liked to challenge the rules. He already felt weird being overly concerned about trouble within his own team.

Whether he was currently working with them or not.

Emily was confident that Simon would use his time wisely. The young Auror/Security peep had worked with her long enough to know she didn't appreciate tardiness - there really was nothing worse than people dragging their feet, things needed doing. She acknowledged his response with a nod, her pupils flickering to her wrist watch assessing the time that's past. Time was of the essence.

Simon was generally so good with not asking questions, and not making small talk, but on this occasion he surprised her. Emily stood, staring, at him.

...

Excuse her? Was he just instructing her on how to do her job? Cue eyebrow raise. "I'm perfectly aware you don't have a head," she was quick to respond, dismissing his concerns with a wave of her hand. Obviously, seeing as she hadn't found a suitable replacement, and neither of them seemed to fit the bill. Whether it was out of concern or not, did he think her too distanced from the division to no longer realise and be capable of meeting their needs? She believed in firm hands after all.

Her piercing gaze lingered a little longer, her lips pursed with distaste. Mmmmmmmm.

"I'll be seeing you soon, Bennett," she said with a nod, moving to let herself out, the door closing perhaps too softly behind her.
