Conference Room

http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps413534c2.jpg
The A&C’s Conference Room is only just big enough for the entire department. Where the former score of Department Heads had couches in here, more recent Department Heads believe taking a break from a scheduled meeting is ridiculous and that employees can lounge around in the Break Room on their own time.

This the place where all important group meetings and presentations will take place. There are long tables in the room, forming a squared-off U shape, open to the front, so that all who are present may see any presentations being delivered from the front of the room, and so that any contributions from those who are present can be heard by all. There is a charmed sound system which runs on magic much like the WWN, so there is no excuse for not being able to hear anyone who is at the lectern to speak. There is a projector screen at the front of the room, and along one side, there is a loooooong book case, where many important and relevant references, books, and scrolls are kept. Any employee may make use of this mini-library, as long as any books are returned here at the end of the day.

Since the remodelling, the conference room is now located directly opposite the Department Head's office, and is nestled between the main office at the end of the corridor to your right, and the break room to your left when exiting the room. The Bathrooms are just down the corridor, as are the training and research facilities.

Please leave this space tidy, chairs pushed in neatly, any messes cleaned up, or you may just find yourself experimenting with cleaning charms.

OOC: This thread will have its title edited when there is a meeting in progress ie;
Accidents and Catastrophes: Conference Room [employee orientation meeting]
Accidents and Catastrophes: Conference Room [Invisibility Taskforce meeting]
Accidents and Catastrophes: Conference Room [special event planning]

If YOU want to make use of this thread for RPing when an official meeting is not happening, you are more than welcome to. After all there is a library of sorts located in the conference room now and your character might wish to do a bit of research or group work outside of the main office. Just let sweetpinkpixie know and she'll make sure it is empty and the thread title is changed to reflect what the meeting is for.

As usual all Site Rules apply at all times.

Bradley opened the door to the conference room and stepped in expecting - and well hoping - there would be people already there he could casually smile and talk to but nope no one. Okay! One man show for this them, or like a one man party, which ever really. At least he turned up ey?

Sighing he walked forward, the door swinging shut behind him, and looked around the big-ish room. Nicely laid out, the sort of thing, he noticed a water point in the corner and headed that way. It didn't take him long before he had the small plastic cup of chilled water in his hand, water dripped down the side and all over the hand holding it.

Ignoring that he took a seat opposite the door and placed the cup beside him, time to wait for the others then.

As was customary after each vacation a department wide- meeting had been called to be held in the conference room. Going into a new year and also with a new department head at the helm Natasha made sure to dress smartly for the meeting. With her big planner under one arm and quill and ink in her purse the long haired blond walked the short distance from her cubicle to the conference room.

Heading inside she spotted Bradley already seated at one of the long tables. Waving at him she called over brightly "Good day Brad! Did you have a nice vacation?"

Crossing the room Tasha took the seat to Brad’s right at the table and organized her planner and writing material on the table in front of her.

Bradley returned the smile and little wave to Natasha as he watched her cross the room to sit next to him. Thank Merlin he had someone to talk to! It was getting a little boring and eary sitting alone!

"It was good thanks! Spending some time with my sister and getting a tan pretty much sums it up!" He joked with a smile, "What about yourself? Get up to anything scary?" Well It was worth an ask, he chuckled and waited for an answer.

Annual department wide meeting?

Ashley came prepared, planner tucked safely under her arm. She expected they'd have a lot to discuss considering the new department head and the things going on in the department lately. Taking notes could only help her stay on top of everything that was discussed.

Entering the conference room, the blonde greeted her two coworkers with a smile. "Hello." She then headed straight for a seat in the center of the U shape, wanting a good view of the projector screen in case it was used. "Have a nice vacation, you two?" She hoped so.

Alani had been on a breakfast run for most of the morning, missing the initial explosion in the lab, but well..... she heard the noises when she passed by and decided that she would be of no use to them, just another person in the way. And she didn't want to contaminate the small hoard of coffee and bagels that she had levitating on a tray in front of her.

"I think we're going to be waiting for a while," She said as she entered the conference room with the large tray, placing in on the table carefully. Didn't want to spill any of the coffee and bagels she just picked up. "Boss is busy with that mess in the lab, but I have coffee and bagels if you all like."

The coffee already fixed off to the side was hers though, she wasn't fixing anything for anyone. Alani took a seat and started to sip her coffee delicately, not looking at all worried about the whole lab whatever thing. If her boss needed her to go fetch someone, he knew how to reach her.

She did hope his pretty face didn't get messed up.

A meeting was just the way Howard did NOT want to begin his career in the Accidents and Catastrophes Department but it seemed like the Ministry had different ideas. A slow torture for the usually reclusive man?

Still, at least it would give him the chance to get to know the faces of his new colleagues without having to make too much awkward conversation.

He shuffled into the conference room, murmuring a “Hello.” To the few members of staff who had already arrived. He thought he better follow that up with who he was. “I'm Howard. New... new employee.” *nervous smile* He took a seat near a smartly dressed blonde woman and began fidgeting nervously with the knot in his tie.

Nerves...... nervesnervesnerrrrrrrves.

Coffee and bagels? Howard looked at the woman who had arrived just as he did. He couldn't stomach anything to eat right now, and he didn't drink coffee. It made him... 'jumpy'. “That's very kind of you. I-I don't suppose there's any tea going?” He asked, hoping that wasn't too bold.. or rude.

One moment the room was empty, like eary scary empty and now it was filling up with new and long-term employees. It was just nice to see people in the room with him for the same reason, felt like an interrogation for a moment then, well kinda. Bradley gave smiles to everyone around the room but didn't really say much, the shyness has crept in! He did reply to Ashley though with a "Yes thank you, how about yourself" before settling in with just sitting and waiting.

He really wasn't good with small talk.

Then the coffee arrived, he didn't mind coffee but tea was much preferred and he was about to as for some when a new employee beat him too it. With a little smile he piped up, "I'll second that, thank you Howard" He turned his his direction to introduce himself, "I'm Bradley, its nice to meet you Howard." He would have done the whole and shake thing but was too far away.

"How bad does the explosion look Aliani?"
he then asked - ooh small talk! - to try and at least getting himself talking and the room less creepy silent.

Hey Ju 07-01-2013 11:39 AM

Derek dragged himself to the conference room and got in as silently as he usually did. Only this time his biggest worry was far from avoiding calling attention to himself. Oh, and he was still shaking slightly.

With the saved vial still in his hands - he wouldn't leave it all alone in the now exploded lab, no way - he absentmindedly took the closest seat to the door and sulked in the chair, staring at the poor, poor vial.

No greetings, no nothing. He wasn't even listening to his co-workers and their silly small talk. Derek just wanted his lab back. He wished it had all been an awful nightmare, but unfortunately... he was aware that it hadn't. It was all bloody real.

SIGH.

Lollipop! 07-01-2013 11:47 AM

What did it mean if there was an explosion in your office on your first day?

There had to be something Divination-y about it. It wasn't exactly an common occurrence, right? After the tour, it made sense to just avoid the lab, right? Leave it to the not-so-new people to take care of it. Cleaning up an explosion was more of a second day on the job sort of thing anyway.

A couple of people inside the conference room. Great. It would be a lot easier to enter and empty room and introduce herself as people came in. Of course, she wouldn't be alone anyway, thanks to the dude with the kid who'd made her pay for a crystal ball she couldn't afford and the tour guide. What was she supposed to say?

She didn't want to just be rude and say nothing - she was only rude when she saw it necessary. And when it came to that Eleanor person. Persephone smiled, though it could easily be mistaken for a grimace and just chose the nearest empty seat. It was a good thing this job came with a decent wage, otherwise there'd be a blurry line that would look suspiciously Sephy-like zooming through the door.

Howard, although usually happy to keep in the background of things, was actually pleased when someone spoke to him. It broke the ice a little and relieved some of the tension he was feeling.

Ceasing playing with his tie, he resisted the temptation to sit on his hands which was usually what he did to stop any inadvertent fidgeting (his therapist said it made him look like a twelve year old boy), and he looked over at the fellow tea drinker. He smiled slightly and, although it was a nervous smile, it was genuine.

“Nice to meet you too.” He replied nervously. He cleared his throat, all too aware that most employees in the room were deadly silent. “What division are you in?” Smaaalll talk. Howard's Achilles Heal.

Ah, the explosion. It had looked bad. Very VERY bad.. before Howard escaped left the scene.

More employees arrived and Howard began fidgeting nervously once again.

Bradley gave a little nod towards Howard to show he had heard and agreed, or well something like that, but he knew the guy was scared. He was nothing but a kid after all, he felt for the guy, he'd been in that situation before. Still was sometimes. He turned his head towards the door when he heard it open and two more people walked in, those he didn't know. New people. He gave them all a smile and a nod but said nothing as at that moment he heard Howard say something again, "Research and Development. I'm a charms developer. what about yourself?" He asked interested.

He then remember the new people who'd come in and turned his head again and raised him voice to say, "Heya guys, welcome, I'm Bradley.." Oh merlin was he turning in the main man?!

"I didn't get that great of a look, lots of smoke. I'd say it's pretty bad though, from what I heard in passing." She sipped her coffee again. Calm cool and collected, she wasn't worried about no explosions.

Speaking of labs exploding. "Oh, but Derek is back now so the rest should be coming back as well to let us know the damage." He looked as if he was taking this... as she expected him to.

Someone should get him a coffee. Iced.

Enigma 07-02-2013 04:35 AM

Hurrying in, Angela rushed in, a little out of breath. Of course, she didn't want to be late, especially in front of new boss and new peeps. No ways! Peering in, relieved to just see a few inside the conference room, she came in, with a manila folder tucked neatly in her arm.

Smiling at everyone in general, she went ahead and took a seat amidst the slow whispering conversations. It felt good to be back at work. Smiling, she directed her attention to the old peeps first, "Hey Natasha, Bradley.. Derek.." she almost whispered his name, seeing him sulking. The lab, as all knew was his baby and it was burnt. Which added to his usual smugness, seemed like a best idea not to talk to him right now.

"Any more news on the lab?" she asked, to everyone in general. It was a really unfortunate thing. And a suspicious one too.

sweetpinkpixie 07-02-2013 07:04 AM

Making his way from the lab while pinching the bridge of his nose, Aron emerged through the doors to the conference room and immediately looked around for his personal assistant. "Alani," he said, a glimmer of relief spreading across his face. "Coffee. Black. No sugar." Now before his nerves were too shot to handle this meeting. "Please," he added, almost as an afterthought but a sincere one nonetheless.

Aron walked over to his seat at the head of the table, but did not sit down just yet. The thought was not too appealing to be entirely honest. He glanced at the clock and sighed. Great. First day as Department Head and not only had the lab had an explosion, but he was late starting his own meeting. Bloody rose brilliant.

"Alright. Let's get started," he said with a dismissive wave to his own thoughts. "I'm Aron Ashburry-Hawthorne, your new Department Head. I had hoped to discuss a few general logistics and get our new employees settled into their new positions, but it looks like we have a situation on our hands already." Welcome to Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. "You all heard it. There was an explosion in the lab this morning. The lab is currently closed off to allow the ventilation system to do its thing. I've already asked our PART Lab Technician, Derek Meriwether, to lead an investigation and sterilization team. I would like there to be three of you assisting him. Jade, you already volunteered, so I need two more." So...anyone?

Mell 07-02-2013 09:37 AM

Oliver slipped in behind the man who was apparently the new Department Head and threw himself into a chair.

He probably should have brought some parchment and a quill with him, but well he had forgotten. If the new boss required him to write anything down then he could quite easily conjure what he needed.

While Aron was talking, Olly glanced around the room taking in his fellow workmates. It was at the mention of an explosion that brought his gaze back to the boss. Actually he hadn't heard it, but he was not going to mention that. As for volunteering in sterilizing the lab...

Would they get extra pay for that?

Oliver decided to hold back on volunteering just yet.

TeafortheSoul 07-02-2013 09:41 AM

He was here.

Rusty had slipped in right behind his new boss, quiet but alert. Quite a crowd here huh? And that was taking into account the number of Accidents and Catastrophe folk that were usually out in the field too. It wasn't as if it was a straight up office job. Rusty found a seat and draped himself all over it with deceptive casualness.

..... people seemed pretty bummed. Had the office pet died or something?

pinkphoenix 07-02-2013 11:38 AM

Jade has been here along :)

At Aron's introduction and his mention of the lab explosion as well as mentioning Derek and her, Jade nodded and gave a wave in order to show the new people in the department who she was.

"Yes, Sir." She said at the same time. She smiled at Derek who was standing close to her, looking so shell shocked that his beloved lab was gone. He didn't look or act much like himself, Jade could tell. She doubted that the others would noticed but she could.

They will get whoever did this, she silently vowed.

Bradley could feel the atmosphere being very mellow, Merlin was it really sad and quiet! Not like a first day at all! This new department head he'd heard about better do a good job, looks like everyone might die before the days out with boredom. He'd try his best not too, he had a lot of work to deal with! The one case he'd been trying to finish for a while.

Brad listened to Alani's description of the lab, he was sorry to hear about it he knew how much Derek loved the place, and nodded his head but said nothing. It seemed fair to get all the details first hand from Derek rather than second hand from Alani. Not that he wasn't thankful for it. People were still streaming in while Alani was speaking and he heard his voice in greeting. Turning towards the door yet again he spotted Angela slipping into a seat, he gave her a smile and wave of his hand with the words, "Hey Angela, how have you been?" He didn't comment on the lab though, he'd leave that to Alani or Derek.

Then the new boss walked in, Bradley straightened in his chair and pulled his shoulders back. Best to look good on the first day, he was prepared to listen. Volunteer's? Hm, he didn't know weather of not he was going to or not, not that he didn't want to help of course but....

He stayed quiet.

For now.

Hey Ju 07-02-2013 08:26 PM

Derek sort of noticed more people coming in and more chit chat going on but he didn't lift his head to look around. He did, though, glance sideways at whoever decided to sit next to him. Meh. The 26 year-old sat up straighter and left his hands with the vial on his lap. Now his staring target was the table in front of him.

By doing that, he became more aware of people's conversations and his level of annoyance increased significantly at every mention of the explosion. Sigh. There might have been people talking to him and actually sounding rather cheerful - or whatever that tone of voice meant. Derek pursed his lips and played with the vial on his hands.

The young man gave Angela a sideway glance when she whispered his name and didn't reply. When she asked about news on the lab he sulked again. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuurgh...

Surprisingly enough, he appreciated when his new boss came in being noisy and talking to everyone, getting the meeting started. At least that would make people shut up about the lab explosion. Only one person talking about it and it was a good thing Aron was already making plans to let them find out what happened.

Of course, what else would Derek do in the Ministry anyway? The lab was his workstation, he didn't do anything else anywhere else. The former Gryffindor simply stared straight ahead at the wall on the other side of the room when the Department Head explained to everyone about the investigation they would be holding. He hadn't realised yet he would be LEADING the people; he was too busy thinking and moaning in his head about his precious lab.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 07-02-2013 11:55 PM

Yes, Cora was here. She wouldn't miss a meeting, especially not after the lab explosion that was surely gonna be the talk of the meeting. On the first day too, when she was supposed to be giving a tour and all that. What a bummer.

She listened to the pretty new Department Head speak and...oh? An investigation and sterilization team with Derek and Jade? That sounded interesting. "I'd be happy to help," she offered.

PatInTheHat 07-03-2013 01:15 AM

More people were coming in, but Alani didn't pay them any attention until one addressed her in a voice she was gonna a have to grow familiar with. Not that she minded at all, especially if he was gonna look all relieved to see her. She smiled pleased at him, and scooted her chair over to were she sat the coffee and made him a cup.

Black. No sugar. Easy. She got his hot cup, and went over to him. "Morning, sir." Not a good one, for him, but it was morning. Alani took back up her seat again and went back to sipping her coffee. She wasn't going to volunteer for anything, not her job.

But she would take notes for this meeting, or use her self-writing quill to do so.

Ashley just watched. And eyed people. And listened, there was some of that too. The blonde glanced at Derek when his name was mentioned and mentally debated whether or not she was willing to be lead by him.

Hm.

...
....
....

"I'd be willing to help too, Sir."

She guessed. Yeah, she'd help. Might as well get involved. Besides, she wanted to know what was up with the explosion.

Rubbing the bridge of his nose some more, Aron was beginning to wish that drool collecting was still a thing. At least that wasn't something that put his department at an immediate disadvantage. This lab incident was going to make Derek lose focus since he would not be able to use his lab and would have to use the one on Level 2 if anything arose. Fantastic.

"Good. Jade, Cora, and Ashley will assist Derek in the lab. I expect a list on my desk by Friday of what was salvageable along with an assessment of the damages. Angela and Natasha," he said as he turned to his two liaisons. "I need one of you to go down to the Speciality Area and meet with the Department Head there about getting some maintenance and repair people up here. Try to schedule that for sometime next week."

Oh good, there was Alani with his coffee. Good personal assistant.

Accepting it with a temporary look of relief, he took a deep sip from his mug and then turned his attention back to everyone in the room. This certainly was not how he wanted to start out his time as Department Head, frustrated, flustered, and mildly furious. But no matter.

"Now that that is out of the way..." he said, slightly grumbling under his breath. "We have some new faces here to the department, including my own." But he had already covered that so he was not going to repeat his brief introduction. "Before we get down to more official business, I would like everyone to introduce themselves. Just a brief introduction will do. Your name, your position within the department, and anything else you feel vital that your coworkers know."

Meanwhile he would take these few minutes it too drink his coffee and calm down.

Shaking her head, Alani rocked in her seat a bit and studied the new face. "No, I don't drink tea, so I didn't think to bring any." Didn't care to was more like it, but she supposed, since it was her job and all, she would try to care next time.

Sigh.

New people were making her work harder.

"I can get some next time. What's your name?" He could have hers after.[/COLOR]

Howard nodded at the woman, taking a mental note that she must be office dogsbody. Not that he would take advantage of her beverage making, but it was nice to know the pecking order around here. “Oh.. no matter.” He replied with a small awkward smile, feeling a little bad for even mentioning it. “Don't worry. I-I can bring my own tea.” He didn't want to put her out. “I'm Howard. New.. new guy.” Obviously.

“And you are?”

Bradley seemed a kindly sort. There was something reassuring about the man's body language that made Howard warm to him almost immediately. Some people had that innate gift of... warmness.

“I'm Potions. Identification and Recovery.” He replied with a slight nod of the head. He was about to attempt more awkward conversation when in came the boss..

Volunteers?

Yes, no. Not on his first day in this... explosive department.

He sat there and just listened, all too aware of himself. He could feel every hair on his head, his clammy palms clasped tightly together under the table to stop any nervous fidgeting. How Howard hated meetings. First day meetings were even worse..

But he was grateful he didn't have to give any input...

...Except that thought was quashed the very moment the boss decided it would be a neat idea for everyone to introduce themselves.. Howard gulped and felt the colour being sapped from his face. Whydidhedecidegoingbacktoworkwasagoodidea!?

Oh, yes.. his dead wife's voice in his head. Merlin, he needed to stop listening to voices he knew deep down weren't real.. or helpful to him.

No one was speaking up... Howard looked around, panic behind his eyes.

Really?

No one?

He stood. Awkwardly.

Washesupposedtostand!? This was like being back at school.

Clearing his throat, he spoke quietly and hesitantly.

“Hullo everyone. ..I'm Howard. ..Potions Identification and Recovery..” He couldn't just leave it there, could he? He felt like he was standing up and confessing to guilty secrets like he was at a self help group. “I.. I haven't worked for three years so this is all quite new to me. I have a daughter. Isabella. We live in Leeds.”

He sat again, cheeks flushed ever so slightly, his heart thumping hard in his chest.

Remind him never to become a public speaker..
