The Work Area The majority of the floor space within the Department of Mysteries is dedicated to the six chambers of the department. The chambers are situated around a circular work space, where desks are set up for when unspeakables need to do written work. The six chambers are set out as seperate rooms, around this circular space. The six chambers of the department of Mysteries are;
Whilst you may struggle to gain entrance to the department, most of the chambers are left unlocked. The locked room is the ever-locked room, and you will need ID to get into this room. SPOILER!!: Description of the Threads |
He wasn't really sure what he'd find when he re-entered the work area. Jasper was more than comfortable on aboard the ship, especially one with little fishie friends, but overall the Ministry's Mysteries Department was designed with their work in mind and it would've been nice to have gotten back to the secure and at times, over-protected work place. Or so he thought. It was a right mess, actually as well as noisey. With shattered orbs and prophecies whirring about the space carrying with them the voices of the seers who had them. The Unspeakable dug out his wand then immediately headed for the store room to fetch fresh orbs to recapture those prophecies whose orbs were too broken to be repaired by simple charm. |
So. They needed to get this spray all of the place. Then hopefully things would be all tidy, and they could get on with those work. But first he needed to get everyone spraying. Ashby headed in from the reception area, just to see if anyone had actually gone into the work areas. He hummed to himself, heading towards the hall of prophecies. Maybe Jasper would be in. He was one of the best workers he had in the department. Ahh. And he was in. "Morning Jasper." Ashby nodded, as he approached the man. The room seemed quite messy too. "We have an infestation of chizpurfles in the ministry. We've got a spray to get them out..." He explained, holding up the bottles. |

"Chizpurfles?!" Jasper stood up from his bent over position at the fresh box of new orbs with a crack of his back. "Ga'augh! Was that what was behind this?" Even the lift incident that forever caused Jasper to take the staircases in. He surveyed the damage of the hall once again and saw that the wood from the shelves had been missing in parts where the orbs were placed, thus weakening them and causing the falling of the prophecy orbs. The seer turned his torso to the left and then to the right to sort of limber up. A whole half-century old now, it was starting to catch up with him. But there was only one thing that worried him about his age. Well, two things now that he was a married wizard, the band of gold glinting against the light from a nearby prophecy. "Well, let's get started, then shall we?" Jasper took one of the cans and began to spray the contents of it on the desks to begin with. He kept in mind what was enchanted and what wasn't so that he could prioritize the enchanted parts of the the department work area. "It's remarkable that we even have a floor beneath us right now. A case of chizpurfles this bad could've easily devoured this place wholly before we had the chance to stop it." |
"Yup...Apparently." There was a reason why Ashby didn't work in magical creatures. He really could not stand magical creatures what so ever. So having them infest his department was not a happy thing at all. "Darned creatures." The department head shook her head. He just wanted things to get back to normal. He liked normal. Normal was good. But first they needed to spray away, so that all the chizpurfles would go away. "I know..." He shook his head, as he moved around to start spraying away. They may as well get this done room by room, so to make sure everything was done right. "I'll just be glad when we can get back to normal." |

"It will be nice to get back to a routine game of Find-the-scariest-end-of-the-world-prophecy again." Jasper agreed. Though, the ship was comfortable, it just wasn't the same. Their work lives had been so disrupted by the unwelcome change and without a common food court, it had been almost a year since he'd seen anyone from any of the other departments. His wife, being the exception there. He imagined that if it had continued, the Ministry would've eventually ceased to run smoothly as a whole. And that could've been bad for all of Wizarding Britain. Jasper started on the shelving units, spraying each one one by one and working his way up. He accidentally took a deep inhale and some of the remnants of the spray happen to have been inhaled causing him to cough a few times loudly before carrying on. |
Anyone can join in XD It had been a couple of days since the meeting regarding the junior unspeakables program, and Ashby was ready to get talking to other members of his team. He wanted to get it out and sorted as soon as possible so that he could get the program announced, and advertised, so that hopefully they would get some new people joining them in the following year. Humming to himself he headed into the work area, ready to do a little brain storming to work out what tasks would need to be taught to the junior unspeakables. He sat down in the desks in the middle of the work area, and set a piece of parchment out. He decided to start with the ever-locked room. Nodding, he wrote this down, and began jotting down a few ideas. |

Once she was done, she she made her way over towards her boss and greeted him. "Hello Mr. Summers. I know I've mentioned this before in the meeting but if you need any help with the junior unspeakable program in the Ever-Locked room I'd be happy to help," she said. Really, she'd love to explain the mysteries that she had been trying to understand about love. It was a very strange yet fascinating emotion to study. |
Quote:
I'd be happy to help, though I still think that it would be challenging for them to begin in the Ever-locked room. The idea of starting off on studying love is like asking a 3rd grader to assess current theories in astro-physics or arithmancy. |
"Morning" Ashby nodded at the two employees that came over to him. He was glad that they were quite interested in this. It was his new baby at the moment, and he wanted it to be successful. They needed to regenerate the department, and this was just the start. "Any help is very appreciated." He smiled at Emma. "I'm just brainstoring some ideas for now, so anything you feel the junior's should learn feel free to let me know." And Edward. Ashby smiled, nodding in agreement. "Yes...I do agree." He hadn't quite decided how he was going to organise the program just yet. "I'm just working out what is going to be taught in each room, before coming up with the order the rooms will appear in the program" |
Emma nodded in response and took a seat with Ashby and Edward. "I couldn't agree more with you, Edward," she said in agreement with Edward about having someone start of studying love. So what could students learn in the Ever-Locked room? She wondered about that when a totally unrelated idea flew into her head about how it could be wise to place recent graduates in areas where they already have enough knowledge about? For example, the Space Room could work quite well. Many of the students have mostly likely taken Astronomy so it could be a good place to start perhaps? The blonde was getting side-tracked. Focus Emma. Now onto what the students could learn in the Ever-locked room. Hmmm.. She wracked her brains. "Love is a hard emotion to understand because it can take on so many different forms. It'll be hard to explain but perhaps using visual references we can show them the various forms of love: the love that you have for a signficant person, family, an activity, and so on." Now how could they get the junior unspeakables exactly INVOLVED in the whole program in the Ever Locked Room. Emma supposed that they could start off with the Love Specialists. "However, I do think that we ought to have the juniour unspeakables start with the Love Specialists in the Ever-Locked Room before moving onto the Potioneers and Charmists. I think the juniours ought to have a strong understanding of the emotion itself. As for what they could do with the Love Specialists, they could shadow us for the first couple of days as we show them how to research and collect data about the emotion. Then we could let them have a hand at collecting data with us carefully observing," she said. It seemed a helpful way to get the young involved while playing it safe. They had to take baby steps with all of this, right? "What do you both think about that idea?" |
Brandon was getting some coffee (as usual) and heading to his work area. He had heard that there was going to be a junior unspeakable program and to him this was perfect. He was ready to see the Hogwarts graduates coming into the department; it was just like in the muggle hospital, where he had to teach the med students. Nice. He entered the room and greeted everyone. "Morning" said with a nod. Brandon placed his mug on the table and sat down, "So, how is the junior program going?" and took a sip of his coffee. He was |

Then someone greeted them. Oh hey! It was Brandon. A familiar-ish face. She remembered him from her time in Mysteries before she took a leave of absence. "Morning. Slowly. We're just figuring out what we want to be taught in the rooms. How are you?" she asked, giving him a friendly smile. |
Ashby chewed on his lip a little as he made a few notes, tuning his employees out for just a few minutes as he concentrated. He wanted to make sure that they had got a good program set out before he allowed it to go forward. He looked up as he heard voices. "Good Morning Brandon" The department headed nodded as he leant back, placing his quill onto the table. He'd done his notes, but wanted to continue on with the discussion that the employees were having. "I like that..." He nodded, considering the love option. "It may be good to ensure they understand what love is, before they move onto more practical aspects, so that they actually understand what they will be studying." |
Apple in hand, Felix walked into the work area, the wheels of his mind whirring at top speed as he tried work through a particularly, annoyingly difficult equation that he needed to understand for the Space Room before he could move forward with his research. He barely noticed the others in the room as he made his way to the water cooler, pouring himself a cup of fresh water. It was only after he'd taken a loud sip of his drink that he noticed Mr. Summers and Emma's presence. "Morning," He said, blinking awkwardly. Hadn't Felix had something he wanted to ask his boss about? Felix frowned slightly, but a second later the realization came to him. "Mr. Summers, I just received a letter about mandatory mental health examination? If you don't mind my asking sir, what's this all about?" Felix respectfully asked, his dark eyes inquisitive. |
Brandon nodded at his co-worker Emma. "I'm good, you?" he replied with a little smile and took a sip from his coffee. Summers also got him on track about the program and he agreed with their ideas. "I think that's a good way to start. They should know the basics about love before moving on. Also...we can do a test when they come here, just to see how much they know" he suggested. "When is the program starting?" asked and leaned slightly on his chair. Someone else came into the room and Brandon simply nodded at the man who was speaking to Summers. What he asked made Brandon raise his eyebrow and turn his attention to his "interesting" mug. |
"Well thank you," she said, giving Brandon a small grin as she turned back to see what their boss was working on. Emma listened attentively as Ashby voiced his opinion about the love option. She grinned happily for a moment, proud that she had suggested something useful. That's exactly what she thought. Making sure that the young ones knew and understood love before they got their hands down and dirty in the other facets of the job. "I think it will make their jobs if they do decide to stay in the Ever-Locked room much easier in the long run," she offered. The blonde nodded when Brandon put forth another idea about testing them after what they had learned. Tests were always good to check up on how much information a student had absorbed. She was about to suggest another idea when Felix in to get a drink. "Morning," she said and turned back to glance at the progress that the others were making. It was good to see Felix out and about for she hadn't seen him since the day they had lunch together. Emma's smile faltered slightly when he mentioned Health inspections. Mental Health Examinations? They had never had those before or had they? She glanced at her boss, wondering if he'd have an answer about that. |
Edward just kind of tuned out for a while, trying to figure out something about the latest research project he had going on. It was especially vexing because it was a study about remnants of love. The main question was about what is left of love when two people seem to fall out of love. He wondered if he'd come to a satisfactory answer. It was something he felt needed to be done right because people who realized links between people who were no longer connected on the exterior emotionally could be exploited. |
Ahh. Those silly mental health examinations. "I had a memo too..." Ashby sighed, shaking his head. He was clearly not very impressed by the whole thing. "Unfortunately all employees have to have them done." Which was a total waste of everyone's time to be honest. "I would just suggest going down and getting yours done as soon as possible. So that we can all get back to work." With having lost so much time last year due to being locked out of the ministry Ashby wasn't happy about having time wasted. Now back to the real work he was doing. "I'm hoping to have the program start after the christmas break." So that would mean they needed to get a move on with it. And this mental health thing was not helping. |
Getting them done as soon as possible? Alright that sounded like a good plan. The mental health examinations were something that Emma wasn't looking forward to at all but they were mandatory. Unfortunately. Then the topic changed back to the project. Right. They wanted the program to start after christmas break? Well then they ought to get a move on, thought Emma as she pulled out her calendar journal to calculate how many days until then. "Okay, after Christmas break," she nodded and then added that to her calendar. At least they had some time to get to work on this. Now what did Ashby want them to do? "So the junior unspeakable programs would the juniors basically shadow all the rooms or will there be some sort of test to discern where they would like to go, Mr. Summers?" she asked because Emma didn't really want to have to explain the concept of love to someone who wasn't interested. |
Quote:
He took a place by Emma and clutched a cup of coffee and listened in to the conversation at hand. "H'mm..." His foggy-day blue eyes squinted in thought as he brought the cup up for a sip, placed it downward and then spoke. "I think it's important to teach them not just what we do here, but give them practical and flexible skills that transcend multiple disciplines. For example, archiving and safe-handling of prophecies might be useful to someone hoping to find a career not only in the Ministry of Magic, but also library & museum work. If we offer this we may not need to test them into specific areas as they could benefit from all of them." Though, perhaps they could test them before they completed the program and certify them. Could be fun and give the children a sense of achievement. "Out of curiousity, was there a specific age-group we were hoping to be working with?" |
Quote:
Then Jasper raised an important question. Which specific age-group were they working with? She blinked for she didn't really know. The blonde had assumed that they would be working with recent graduates from wizarding schools. "Do correct me if I'm wrong, but I believed that it was with graduates from wizarding schools?" she said glancing at Ashby to see whether or not this was the correct idea. |
Edward listened in as Summers outlined a timeline. It sounded workable and he liked the ideas from his co-workers. It certainly would be an interesting program. For one to teach, one must be more than conversant in their individual discipline. He waited to see if Ashby would answer the questions before asking more. |
Needless to say, that sabbatical had been long enough. So long she even missed a complete period of one Department Head. Go figure. But it was quite refreshing to be out doing some personal research, and she did deserve some time away from the Ministry as a whole. Magnolia has been here for quite some time, after all. The news of a new Department Head didn't go unnoticed. It was a coincidence that the end of her sabbatical fell just with the beginning of Jasper Mitterbill's era. Or something like that. Well, it was good to be back either way. Was that Junior Unspeakable program going to happen? Or happening now? Or not? First things first, because she had a room to check. |
