AGONY! PAIN! TWITCHING!

The two remaining mutants, W and V, joined in party of woe. Mutant W began to chew its own leg and Mutant V sneezed uncontrollably to the point that the sheer force of the sneeze threw it backwards against the back of the cage.

Emmalee could take a hint. And this was maybe going to take some patching up. But she had no sooner turned to leave when NEW screeching began.

MER. LIN.

Emmalee disappeared, having run to go get her stash of charmed earmuffs, only to come back holding the box as Ember cast silencio. And was that.. was that burning through the floor?

She was not equipped for this. Nope. But any annoyance over the noise had passed. This was a situation and different department or not, she was here. Tell me what you need," Emmalee said. Did they need her to go tell whoever was beneath them to watch out? Evacuate the floor? Round up the Creature people?

And, again with the screeching! Emmalee jumped as the one mutant slammed itself in the back of the cage and dropped the box. Bending down, she took out a pair of the charmed noise-blockers and planted them firmly on her head.

There.

No squealing. But she should be able to hear directions, just fine.

With all the barking, whining, and such that the bloodhounds did all day, Manolo was quite used to loud animal noises. However, as he was heading to the food court, he happened to pass by the creature holding room and THE HORRIBLE, DEAFENING SCREECHES, by Merlin!

What on Earth was going on in there? There better not be any torturing being done! That's what it completely sounded like. The 24 year-old was in full scolding mode when he stormed into the room, yes he was. "CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHAT IS-" He stopped abruptly, staring at the squealing things in cages, "WHAT IS...THAT?!" Nothing he's ever seen, nope.

WHAT. WAS. HAPPENING?

Harmony did a slow turn, head pounding from the noise and heart racing faster now. Yes, the department head might be on the verge of a freak out. The woman was just thankful that Ember had silenced mutants X and Y as she was busy getting a hold of Z. Thankfully the gloves she was wearing had been charmed specifically for this task given the damage the mutants had done to her office and others in the past. The pink goo shouldn't harm her as long as they were on securely. "Obscuro!" Now the poor mutant was silenced and blind but the dark comforted them, yes? And she couldn't have them hurting themselves, like X and--

Oh Merlin, more employees. Ember looked like she was on the verge of tears. Harmony was going to have a heart attack. Her aura was pulsating and NOT in a good way. Was this how she died? NO.

"Nobody panic!" Said the boss who was clearly panicking. Her eyes were wide as she silenced mutants W and V before addressing those in the room. "I need everyone to get on protective gear. The gloves and goggles should protect you from the pink goo. Ember, immobilize and blindfold mutant X. Then blindfold mutant Y and get it a blanket. We can't let them hurt themselves! Charlotte, please do the same for mutant W. immobilize and blindfold. Manolo, take care of mutant V, same as the others. The dark comforts them so summon blankets if you have to!" Harmony was speaking quickly as she paced, cradling mutant Z in a blanket in her arms. And that woman, the RUDE woman, was still here. Well if she WANTED to help..."Here, please keep hold of mutant Z."

Meanwhile the department head took exactly 3 deep calming breaths before casting her patronus and sending it to Accidents and Catastrophe's with a very important message.

This was a right mess she'd managed to get herself in. Scrambling for gloves and googles, Emmalee silently wondered why she couldn't go notify whoever that patronus was off to visit. Walking away, however, was not an option.

She was here, there was a problem, and well, she did try to be a team player. So she stepped forward, clad in earmuffs, googles and gloves, to take the bundled mutant from Harmony's arms. She was cautious and hesitant, unsure how much support or restraint the... thing would need.

MORE PEOPLE. Ember normally would have smiled all CHEERFULLY and waved at the new person----BUT. Now was not the time. THe new employee just got a startled look from Ember--who gestured her inside quickly--"Oh Thank Merlin's overgrown BEARD you're here--" she said in a ragged voice, and then MANOLO was here--oh Ember could have hugged him. HUGGED. Maybe when they had this under control, she would--

The Enviro woman was coming around--oh good--they LITERALLY needed all of the hands that they could get! She looked back at Harmony--thank MERLIN the creatures were quiet, now, they could better handle them. Ember already had on gloves and her goggles--did they need anything else? Hmm. She quickly went into action--no smiled right now from Ember, for once. She was completely focused on Mutant X--after this was all over with, she was giving them NAMES. Because they couldn't be called Letters. That was undignifying--how come she had never thought of it before?

She quickly brandished her wand and pointed it into the cage at the poor guy smashing into the walls--it was making a HORRIBLE CLANG, CLANG--noise. "IMMOBULUS!" she cried, and as soon as the spell hit X, it froze, and Ember was able to open the cage and grab him. She was very gentle, and she slipped on a blindfold as carefully as she could. Grabbing a blanket, she wrapped the little guy in it and sighed, rocking a bit. "It's okaaaay little guy--we got this under control--don't worry--" she said in her gentlest of tones. She had to move on to Mutant Y, now, and she set X back in the cage, shutting it and hoping he would be more relaxed once he became unfrozen--

"Immobulus!" she cried again, and she reached in to grab Y. Poor thing. Ember wanted to cry--but she would do that later. Right now she had to make sure these guys were okay--she slid on the blindfold and grabbed another blanket, wrapping him up and rocking him, too, for good measure, whispering words of encouragement to him as well. Positive energy, PEOPLE.

She put him back in the cage and began to summon more blankets--they were sifting in from all over--and she was lining the cages with them so that they would be surrounded by darkness--AND if they tried to do that RAMMING into their cage thing again, they wouldn't be hurting themselves.

Ember's heart was beating so fast still. She glanced around the room quickly, wondering what on Earth this could have CAUSED this...

Take care of mutant V? Yeah, okay, he could do that. Mutants. Mutants? Mutants. Donning on the gear to protective from the super dangerous pink goo, he dove into the chaotic scene of those bugged eye things ramming and squealing into everything. "Immobulus!" He casted, pointing his wand at his appointed mutant. Manolo studied the frozen creature for a few seconds before carefully placing a blindfold on it. Swaddling it in a blanket, he held it close like a child (that just happened to be a frozen mutant), looking at Ember with very questioning looks.

Taking hurried bites out of his turkey and avocado sandwich as he walked, Aron had flashed his badge and waltz right through the reception area and into the holding room with just a tiny bit of mayo clinging to the corner of his lip.

"Got your invitation to the party," he said to Harmony as he made his way towards her. Merlin there were a lot of people in here. "What is going on with these blokes?" He was seeing lots of blindfolds and blankets, which was probably not a good sign. He would have suggested maybe adding a muzzle to the list of things to put on the mutants, but knowing that saliva of theirs...well...would just eat right through the material.

Harmony was pacing, taking deep breaths in and letting them out slowly as she did. Her wand was out and at the ready, just in case any of the mutants somehow got free of the person handling them. She was positively panicked on the inside but she was trying to keep calm, clinging to the teeny tiny bit of positivity left in her at the moment.

"Aron!" He was here, thank Merlin! Harmony opened her arms wide as if to showcase what was happening to the man. "They're all sick or in distress. Something is very wrong. They were shrieking and hurting themselves and we've had to freeze several." And since he was familiar with these mutants and his lab had been testing them, she wanted answers. He'd have answers, right?

"Did their blood work show they were sick in any way? Why is this happening? They were fine just this morning."

As soon as Derek stepped into the creature holding room, he regreted having followed his boss all the way there.

So. Many. People. And loud creatures throwing fits all around.

But then again, that was good material for his work and experiments, so he automatically conjured up gloves and pulled out some vials as he looked around the room to try and understand what exactly was going on.

The weirdo Head of Department was freaking out, there were a couple of other people who looked like they had no clue what they were doing, Amber looked like she was about to cry...

Wow. Talk about being in control. But then again, this was the Ministry of Magic, Derek had learned not to expect much safety from anything in there. Ironically enough.

So they froze several of the mutants - if not all of them -, blindfolded them and... put blankets around them? Merlin, Creature people... The lab technician heard Harmony's questions. "I don't know if they're... sick, but maybe they haven't stopped mutating yet..?" He offered in a mutter, eyes glazed as if he was thinking to himself. Snapping back to reality, Derek sent his boss a serious look. "We need those plants soon." Meaning the new ones they've been talking about. Hybrid, maybe? That probably meant they would have to deal with MORE people SOON, but Derek was trying to not think about it.

Drops of sweat appeared on his forehead, however. He was clearly not comfortable with the thought. Heavy sigh. But ~~almost~~ all for the sake of science ~~sort of~~. Potions, to be more exact. Not just any kind of science.

Reinforcements! Emmalee breathed a sigh of relief, still cradling the mutant, when more people arrived. Someone would be taking this beastly thing out of her arms now, yes? Please.

Please.

Emmalee was still new enough to not know what was behind the looks being exchanged. But there was a word she did understand: plants.

Perking up, Emmalee turned to look at the men who had entered. "Did you say plants?" The Senior Botanist had catalogued what was in the greenhouses and what purposes, if any, the plants had been designated for herself and she could not recall the mention of mutants on any of them. She shifted on her feet, trying not to jostle the mutant too much. "If there's something in particular you need, please let me know and I can get it for you."

In other words, do not waltz into my greenhouse and just take it yourself.

Side-eyeing the mutants out of the corner of his eye, Aron tried to keep his attention entirely on Harmony and was about to unfairly assume that she was going to tell them that their auras were pulsating in dark colors or however all that supposedly worked to indication something was wrong. Instead he was informed of some very real and visible facts. "Nothing that would indicate they had contracted some sort of terminal disease," he said as he stepped towards the nearest of the creatures to get a better look. "I suppose we could take some more blood work to compare our previous results..."

But then Derek was muttering something that made perfect sense. "I suspect you are right, Derek. We ought to confirm this through further testing." Poor blokes. They had already been through so much and were the tragic result of testing. He gave the man a firm nod of confirmation in regards to the plants as now. "And fast."

He understood some of the logistics with plant experimentation, having delved into things a little while still working in Australia. But that had been with the aquatic variety. There were a few liberties one could take with those that one could not when it came to land plants.

And speaking of plants...

"And....you are?" he asked, not to be rude or anything. It was a genuine question. Someone from Environmental, if he recalled some of the conversations he had overheard at the orientation correctly. Right, pleasantries should really come second in this situation. Business and dealing with this forming catastrophe first. "Derek has the full lab report, so I'll leave all the logistics to him." But what he had to say next was something everyone present should hear. Especially since it went back to what Harmony had just asked not five minutes ago.

"The latest lab results show excessively high levels of Alihotsy in their bloodstreams," he continued as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "We'll need to test more of the cosmetics that did this to them to be able to isolate any other causes, if there are any, but for now that is the only lead we've got going for us." And perhaps testing the creatures' blood now would reveal other options...assuming the mutations hadn't covered any sort of DNA footprint they could uncover.

Clearly, something significant was happening and Emmalee found herself just a bit annoyed that something that had the potential to go this wrong was on the same level as her work.

But she supposed at least her greenhouses weren't BELOW this room, what with the floor-eating drool.

"Emmalee Quinn, Senior Botanist, Experimental Breeding," she said, by way of curt introduction. She looked over to the man who had first mentioned plants. Derek. She filed his name away in her memory and nodded. "I'd shake your hands, but, well, they're a little full." She held up the mutant.

Seriously. Was no one going to take this thing from her?

But, alihotsy? Emmalee wrinkled her forehead in thought. What did they need ~~her~~ the plants for if the issue was alihotsy? Wouldn't some glumbumble treacle take care of it? Emmalee didn't know enough about creatures to know whether the antidote for humans would work on.. on whatever these things were, so she kept her thoughts to herself.

Harmony was pacing as she listened to Aron, Derek, and that Quinn woman. Why was she here again? She clearly didn't like the job she'd been given so the red head wandered over and carefully plucked the mutant from her arms, cradling it in her own as if she'd done this a thousand times.

"But glumbumble treacle could help, couldn't it?" Because the department head had been thinking precisely what Emmalee was and she was willing to try just about anything at this point.

"Please Aron, take any blood you might need. The poor things are in distress and I'm quite sure this is a time sensitive issue with the way they were behaving." Her tone was pleading, her eyes quite wide. She'd always been passionate about creatures and to have so many that were in her care be in pain was taking a terrible toll on the woman.

Oh great, did he really have to give a full explanation on their findings now???? Couldn't he just get new samples to work with and disappear to his lab and get things done???

Urgh!! People.

He turned to the Senior Botanist and tried his best to speak in an audible tone without mumbling. He didn't want to have to repeat himself. "Glumbumble treacle by itself won't fix the problem. The substance that caused the mutantion was lab developed and also used Alihotsy." He told her and hoped the Creatures Deparment Head was listening because he had just answered one of her questions too. That basically meant Glumbumble treacle wouldn't work on its own. "We need a..." He scratched the side of his head and quickly dropped his hand to his side again. "...something new." A new breed, possibly. He was no botanist but "I can show you the other ingredients that we know about." The woman would probably be able to help them if she knew what they needed to go against, he supposed.

Merlin, that was the most he had spoken up in... a very long time. Time to stop.

Anyhow, was the distressed redhead let them take more-- oh, she would. Good. Derek went ahead and put his gloves on. After a moment of hesitation, he approached the creatures - which was more complicated this time because people were near them. At least most of them were immobilised, so it wasn't as ridiculously complicated to take blood and drool samples this time.

Oh Aron.

Ember's BIGGEST fan. Ember would have NORMALLY been a...well, a very sickly sweet fiend to him at the moment, especially after their...rather flowery first meeting. And she wondered if Derek ever ate those cookies--

NOT THE TIME TO THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS NOW, THOUGH. MUTANTS WERE IN TROUBLE. She looked up at the group--Aron, now Derek--and the Enviro woman--Harmony, The new woman, and Manolo--and she just--well she had to try not to cry. She had studied a good bit about plants, too, and just...took it all in. Glumbumble wouldn't work? She browed Derek a bit. "Wait--a new breed? Is that what you're saying, Derek?" she asked him softly. "What if we don't have time for that kind of experimentation?" she was now growing really worried about the mutants...

Emmalee shook her arms to get feeling back in her hands after Harmony took the creature away. Slipping a glove off, she pinched the bridge of her nose and nodded, considering the situation.

Despite the severity, she was intrigued and maybe a little excited by the puzzle now in front of her. Alihosty, in combination with other things, had caused a mutation and was now causing significant discomfort? Was that what she was gathering? She tapped her finger against her nose - a habit of concentration - and nodded.

Ember's concerns were... valid. Opening her eyes, she looked first to Derek. "If someone can let me know what exactly we're dealing with, I can clear space in the greenhouse lab for experimentation." Turning to Ember, she paused. "We have some rapid growth techniques that could speed it up..." she offered. But if they weren't successful the first or second time, they might not be able to help.

She looked, then, to Aron and Harmony as the Department Heads. She didn't think she had the authority to insist that experimentations in the greenhouse include her or the other DERP staff, and she considered how to approach it diplomatically. "I will be of whatever help I can. Should I ask Bryce about getting the support of the junior botanists or will you be sending your teams to" my "the greenhouse?"

Senior Botanist. Experimental Breeding. Well...this was certainly a happy little coincidence. Not to mention someone he wouldn't mind getting a coffee with sometime. He just sort of gave the creature in her arms a look up and down. "We can save the hand shaking for later."

Derek thankfully fielded Harmony's inquiry about the glumbumble treacle. Something that they had gone over before but, as the man had explained, was not as simple a fix as that. Wouldn't THAT have been nice? Simple and straightforward solution to a seemingly complex situation. He would just let those two get to it then.

"Then we better make sure we act fast," he replied to the green (blue?) haired wonder. Or, you know, what Emmalee had just said. "We'll take whatever sample we need today. In the meantime it will be up to you and your people, Harmony, to try and keep them as comfortable as possible. We won't know just how much time we have on our hands until we process these DNA results."

He turned to Emmalee and removed some equipment from his pocket - completely sterilized, for the record. "No need. I'll speak with your Department Head. You and Derek should start collaborating immediately." He then made his way towards Harmony again, and winced slightly. This was the more unpleasant part of the job. "Now...if you don't mind holding that guy still for a minute...I'm going to take a blood sample," he said to the Department Head while reaching out to hold the creature's arm still.

Harmony was disheartened to hear that Glumbumble treacle wouldn't be of much use at this point. She'd figured as much but the red head was holding on to the tiny ray of hope that the poor mutants would be cured sooner than later.

"Cushioning charms for the cages, then. So they don't hurt themselves in there. Perhaps keeping the cages dark would help soothe them too. Cover them with cloth so as not to disturb the other creatures in the room by shutting off the light source." The suggestions were directed towards her team of creatures people so that they could get started working on that as soon as the mutants had their blood taken.

Speaking of that, Harmony carefully cradled mutant Z so that the Accidents and Catastrophes department head could do his work. Her expression was full of sadness as she watched, feeling as though she should be doing something more to help.

Emmalee nodded. Understood. She winced, herself, as he moved forward to take the blood sample and decided that that was her cue to get as far away from the creature holding rooms as possible.

"I will go make room in the greenhouse lab, immediately," she responded, first looking to Aron and then to Derek. There was the matter of cleaning up the experiment she'd left to see what was making such a terrible noise, and it wouldn't do to potentially have them contaminate one another.

"Someone will join me there, I assume, to give me a better sense of what effects, specifically, we're looking to counteract?" Because without that, she might as well just shove a bezoar down their throats and hope for the best.

Leaving the Creatures department safety gear behind, Emmalee did pick up the earmuffs she'd brought over and tucked them under her arm. Moving toward the door, she paused and turned back to the Creature folks. "I want to apologize for being short, before. It's clear that there's a situation and I genuinely do want to help resolve it." Even if she didn't think that those... things... should be kept on premises.

With a small smile and a shrug, she strode out of the room and toward the greenhouse labs.

Giving Harmony an appreciative nod of the head, he went about extracting some blood from the mutant as gingerly as he possibly could. "All done there, mate," he said. He would have given the thing a small pat on the head...if it had been a more appealing looking bloke.

Aron gave Derek a quick glance and a wiggle of the vial in his hands. He would take this back to the lab on level three and get that processing while Derek handled the rest of the matters, er, his own way. Aron knew just not to get in the way of the lab rat when he was focused on a task.

"Thank you for your efficiency, Emmalee. Several of us from level three will come popping in and out to assist you if needed." Most likely him and Derek, if he was being entirely honest.

"Harmony, we'll be in touch."

After giving the room a smug salute, the department head strolled out of the holding room and began making his way back to his own level.

Ember nodded at the plant woman. Were the techniques really safe and reliable? Ember didn't think they had time to question it, really, as she glanced at the poor dears. Well then. She kept rocking the creature in her arms after having put the material over it's eyes--and she just wished there was more she could do. She felt so..helpless.

Watching Aron take a sample--gah. She was glad he couldn't feel it--but it would help him and the other dears in the long run, yes. SHe slipped the one she was holding into the now-padded cell and shut it, sighing as she looked back at the group. She went back to checking all the cages--making sure they were cushioned and dark--and she felt odd about just leaving them there--what if they woke up, still in pain or scared? "Harmony--should we have someone in here with them--or--?" She was only thinking about what would be best for them. If they needed more hands elsewhere to get things done faster for the Mutants--then so BE it.

THIS WAS ALL SO SCARY. Ember wanted--she didn't even want to go HOME--at the end of the day? Not until the creatures were better-And when Aron announced his leaving she just waved halfheartedly at him before going back to check the Mutants' areas.

Manolo glanced at all the estranged and panicked people and then at the motionless clothed mutants in their hands. This was all quite weird. Poor things. Weird looking, but still beings otherwise. However, it looked as though they were going to figure this thing out.

He carefully placed the frozen mutant back into the cushioned cage. "I can stay here, if you want." The handler said looking from Ember to Harmony. "I'm only a couple doors down anyways." He'd hear if the dogs needed anything and vice versa.

Yes, new breed, that was what he was saying. He hoped people would pick it up without him having to say any more. He was done talking and just wanted to get the samples and get the bloody hell out of there. Derek hated commotions.

The Botanist sounded like she knew what she was talking about, which was good news. Derek gave her a short nod, meaning he could send her the information she needed, when his boss said about him and her working collaboratively. The lab technician wondered if that meant they would have to meet and discuss things over and over again. Just the thought of having to do that made it difficult for him to breathe. If only he could stay in his lab 24/7...

Derek finished taking the samples he would need and stood up straight again, stepping away from all the creatures ~~and people~~. Soon Aron and the Botanist were leaving, and Derek was most definitely not staying there for no reason, so he followed his boss out of the room without saying goodbye to anyone at all.

Harmony felt her heart break as blood was drawn from the already upset creatures. Poor things had been poked and prodded more times that she could count and to know their time as pin cushions wasn't necessarily over made her quite sad.

Once the testing was wrapped up and Emmalee, Aron, and Derek were gone, Harmony focused her attention on her creatures family once more.

"Yes, I think taking turns looking in on them would certainly be beneficial. Once we've cushioned their cages and made sure they're covered so the mutants will have proper darkness, we can set them back inside. Manolo, if you want to take the first watch. Ember can come back later and take over and I'll return during the end of the day."

With that said, the red head approached mutant Z's cage and began making proper arrangements with her wand as she carefully cradled the poor dear with the other arm.

Once finished, she placed mutant Z inside and secured the cage.

"I'm going to my office now. Please let me know of any changes. Thank you all for your help here."
