Default Office of Jasper M. Mitterbill
C.R.E.A.M | Haitian Sensation | Shark Patronus | Your Huckleberry | T's ClayBaby

The office was finally looking more acclimated to it's occupant. The mission style desk was still present and still held the needed things of the department and it's head such as quills, inks, parchment, but also almanacs, raven food, a journal or two and Jasper's latest read bookmarked somewhere along it's pages.

Just about the only things not stored in the desk were the books and empty prophecy orbs which were kept in a corner bookcase located against the two walls behind the desk. Also, behind the desk are the perch and cage of Sandra, Mr. Mitterbill's raven companion who he keeps with him for therapeutic and divinatory purposes. There is also a small notepad perched atop the surface of the desk. But, be careful what you write upon it...others you did not intend may be able to read it.

Altogether the room appears to be somewhat sparsely decorated without much occupying it at one time; the raven, the writing desk and the bookcase. Oh and Mr. Mitterbill himself, who can usually be found recording and comparing prophecies or perhaps calculating the work hours of his fellow Unspeakables. The office space is usually unlocked and no ward protection is applied whilst in operating hours. Unspeakables may come and go as they pleased, it's the rest of the world that needed to keep out.

It is polite to knock, though it is unlikely that Mr. Mitterbill will disregard his pacifist nature to express strong disapproval.

Abby finally arrived at her level, panting lightly from the effort of carrying her bag - darn little things wouldn't allow her to cast a spell to make it easier to carry, instead they would just laugh at her.

She furrowed her brows at the bag as a couple of high pinch scream were heard from the inside. Maybe now that she was back at her department she would be able to understand what they - it - was. I mean... it's not everyday that part of your research decides to come to live in what looks like marbles and just annoy the heck out of you.

She sighed, pulled her hair from her face, today she wore her hair up in a ponytail - very professional looking - she didn't know who to expect to be her new boss, she had only met him though the letters he sent her.

She straightened her clothes. They were quite discreet even tough one could see the recently done collarbone tattoo peeking from her neckline and a couple others from her sleeves.

She grabbed her bag once again firmly and knocked on the door a couple of times. She waited.

"Gentileschi versuuuus...Knockwud." The seer spoke aloud to himself quietly as he compared two very similar prophecies made on the same date. How odd it would be if the originators of such a prophecy, world's away, would've been discussing the same event. Both seemed to imply that the Minister for Magic would be female this time around.

Jasper's studious thoughts were ceased when he heard the knocking against the door...

Was that shave and a haircut?

Or a song of any kind? It sounded sort of rhythmic to him, but he had been in there all morning and was probably due for a cuppa.

"Come right in. I haven't put the wards up or the locks on." It was likely one of his Unspeakables.

She heard the answer and pushed the door open as she walked into the office.
There she found who she assumed was Mr.Mitterbill sitting at his desk, a pet raven not far behind him and bookcases. It reminded her of Niko's raven, such smart creatures.

She wasn't sure what to think of Mr.Mitterbill yet, not by only his appearance, he looked like he could be her father only a tad younger.

Her lips formed a polite smile as she approached his desk - which was filled with all sorts of office supply a wizard might need. She then extended her hand to the man in front of her, ready to give him a vigorous shake.

"Mr.Mitterbill I presume.." she let the sentence linger in the air for a second before continuing "it's such a pleasure to meet you. I'm Katherine A. Lewis reporting back to the department" and with that she finally set her bag on the floor, close to her feet.

It twitched for a while before calming down again.

"That would be me." He said releasing the parchment prophecies from his hands and standing. He could see she was introducing herself, this young lady with the white hair and unconventional style who was young enough to be his daughter if he'd had one, and so he stepped around his desk and extended his hand to take hers, and began to give it a gentle shake which quickly shifted to a decidedly more upbeat one.

"Lewis. Yes! Our Astronomy expert." Would she have preferred Astronomer? This thought instantly entered his head as soon as the words came from his mouth. "You've come back at a good time, Miss Lewis. The Department just lost Mr. Ashby Summers the previous department head and Astronomer."

His blue eyes found the bag Miss Lewis had carried in with her to be moving. Though, Miss Lewis herself seemed completely calm. Smiling even. Did that mean it wasn't dangerous? "You've brought a pet along with you, I see. Are you an animal lover, Miss Lewis?" He asked...well, not expectantly exactly, more like as if he were preparing to meet a kindred spirit.

He looked like someone Abby could get along with. He was extremely polite as he greeted her. Always a good sign. "Yes that's me, Astronomy expert, Astronomer, crazy girl that's always staring up at night, take your pick" she said with humor as she took out her heavy cloak and folded it in her arm.

She chuckled lightly at his remark about her twitching bag "Not exactly, even though I am indeed an animal lover..." she gave him a nice innocent smile. She was indeed an animal lover, she always had animals when growing up, but due to her traveling and job she didn't own any at the moment.

She looked at the bag thinking about the best way to explain to him what was inside of it and for a few moments was silent. She couldn't even understand it herself.

"This.." she began, pointing a finger to her bag at the exact time a bunch of excited high pintched completely not human screams were heard, interrupting her. She frowned a little at the bag like it was a child misbehaving " is work related believe it or not" it was best to take it slow. Yep.

"Maybe we could sit and I'll explain everything to you Sir?" she suggested " I guarantee it's not dangerous or harmful, it's just... unusual."

As Ms. Lewis listed off the various titles she might answer to, Jasper's smile widened. "I like your enthusiasm, Miss Lewis. I don't know that I'd call you crazy, though perhaps I would. The best minds are often mistaken as such." He was just as passionate about his own line of work. It was the sort of work-to-worker relationship where the subject had him as much as he had it. It had always been this way for Jasper.

And then his heart was launched up into his throat. What was that thing? Some other worldly scream erupting from it made the hair on his arms stand erect. Jasper tried to maintain a calm look, but it was difficult when a sound unlike anything he'd ever heard before pierced his ear drums loud and shrill. Jasper tended to believe in things, though he tried to be skeptical. Easier said than done when one could fall out and utter a prophecy at any moment in ones life.

"Alright." Work related. His fear was subsiding and making way for curiousity. "I have all the time you need, Miss Lewis. What was that? You swear it isn't harmful?"

Abby wanted to laugh - politely - at Mr.Mitterbill's spooked expression after he heard her little companions express their impatience. He was really scared, his eyes shot open, and she could swear she saw his hair stand. She thought about making a joke, to light up the mood, but she knew how she had gotten the first time she experienced it and this was no time for jokes unless she wanted her head ripped out. She tried giving him an reassuring calming smile before sitting down at one of the chairs in front of his desk - her bag between her knees.

Well, how could she begin explaining something so unexplainable ?

"Well Mr. Mitterbill, you know why I was sent abroad and what my mission was, we've exchanged owls on this matter earlier this year " she tapped her fingers absentmindedly as she spoke " What you don't know, is.. " a sudden thought occurred to her, would she be in trouble because of this? She hoped not. ".. when the spell I was studying subsided, it started decomposing - as you can probably recall me informing of - on the last stage it began...interacting with the materials around it." she swallowed loudly remembering that moment.

That had not been a pretty moment, she was scared out of her mind, shooting spells and trying to contain the mass of energy that suddenly erupted from the sample she was studying, touching everything around the cave/lab she had built herself in Egypt.

"That's the moment this " she pointed to her bag " appeared, and I haven't been able to return it to it's original shape yet. I can only assume this is the remains of the spell on it's most simple form. And so far it hasn't presented itself to be dangerous at all".

She began undoing the knots on her bag. Better so show him.

As she did so, a couple more screams sounded, super excited screams.

The moment she undid the last of the knots.. they/it got out.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, IIIIIIKKKKK, FFFSSSSSSSS!

A dozen marble-shaped rocks, bouncing like they were muggle tennis' balls, started bouncing around the room, screaming and laughing and changing colors as they did so. Some of them even sounded like they were having conversations on a made-up language.

Some of them were as small as muggle marbles, others the size of a snitch or bludger. On total there were 12 of this balls, all of them unique like they were made of a mix of rocks and gems and despite their stony look, they moved like they were as light as a feather.

Even though they were apparently making a mess all around the room, they didn't hit anything or anyone, and after a few minutes they all sat still in Mr. Mitterbill's desk, as if looking at him expectantly, exchanging little screams or laughs.

Abby smiled a little nudging two of the louder marble-shaped-things to be quiet, and looked at Mr.Mitterbills for a reaction.

Dear Mr. Mitterbill,

I hope you are well. I wrote this letter to ask for a moment of your time so I can come to your office for a simple meeting. I would like to discuss the upcoming event in the Ministry and with regards to the assignment of the liaison officer for the department.

It could be at anytime at your convenience.

Thank you very much!

Yours truly,

In his stunned reaction to the screams Jasper hadn't remembered resuming his seat, he was however, now seated once again behind his desk...reacting. What else could one do but react to the things he was now experiencing. Rapt attention as she began what it was they were dealing with, her apparent calmness steadying him. Her mission. He'd read the file, but also managed to exchange correspondences with Miss Lewis. Exploration, in a nutshell. He gave a nod following along.

A decomposing spell. "Decomposing, of course. You wouldn't have had the proper means to preserve it having to makeshift your lab. If there are even proper methods of doing so given what we're dealing with." He added the last part after a brief moment of quiet thought.

But that brief moment of quiet thought and the sympathic calming were put aside as Jasper's blue eyes widened again, his brows knitting upward in a worried fashion.

MISS.

LEWIS'S.

FINGERS.

WERE.

UNTYING.

THE BAG!!!!1!

If one had taken the Jasper Mitterbill of a few minutes ago aside and told him that chaos incarnate would happen inside of his office that day, he wouldn't have imagined this. Perhaps, a pack of krups run amok and peeing towards the foot of his omni-encompassing desk. The brains from the thought room getting loose and levitating everyone and everything including Sandra. Perhaps, even, several ill-behaved children paying a visit. Those are the sort of things he thought of, not, "Killer marbles." He said pointing to the one then the other, as if only trying to inform/warn Miss Lewis. She should protect her eyes from them. He, himself had raised his hands and arms around his face and head in effort to protect himself should one of the marbles decide to have it in for him.

It was a great deal of flinching later that Jasper had regained some, but only some of his composure as the rock bits and large chunks gathered and settled down atop his desk. "Great Mab! Are they sentient?" How fascinating!

Throughout this whole episode Sandra remained perched and as calm as Miss Lewis.

The paper crane that flew inside of the office was caught between his fingers and his thumb in a sort of absent venus-flytrap-like snap. He was still too interested in what was going on, which he would later use as an excuse for why he couldn't fold a proper crane.

Lunch time? Had he really spent that much time above? "Sure," he agreed being polite, "Though I came also to check on things for the new year." Business with pleasure.
"Oh, assuring I haven't leaked any important secrets or set a pod of heliopaths lose on the general public at large, I see." He was kidding. Being facetious. There was no such thing as heliopaths, right? Jasper was trusting, by design perhaps. So it made him no nevermind that Simon or anyone else from Security checked in every now and again. If anything it reassured him. Aside from that, he liked the young man. Enjoyed his company and found him intelligent. Thus, he considered him a friend as well.

He led them down the corridor to the black door and beyond it to the circular room which led to his office.

Sometime later...

"Make yourself comfortable, Simon." He told the young Auror applying the warming spell to an Asian china teapot and standing near a perch where his Raven, Sandra proceeded to let herself be petted.

Abby observed Mr. Mitterbill's every move like a hawk, he was scared and confused, and well, who could blame him for that? This discovery was astounding to say the least. Who could have guessed that an ancient spell, sent into space and fallen back, could create (or bring?) these creatures with it. Was it a side effect of the no-gravity atmosphere that it lived for centuries? Was it something else? How did this happen? These were questions she couldn't answer alone or with the resources she had at hand at her improvised lab back in Egypt, so she returned with her mischievous adopted sons.

Keeping a motherly eye on the beings, making sure they didn't make any more fuss, she watched them settle down and stay put in Mr.Mitterbill's desk.

"I think they are sentient, or even a little something more than that" she answered nodding, feeling slightly nervous as she spoke. She could see his pet calmly observing them as well, the raven hadn't moved even a inch, not minding the fuss and array of screams that suddenly erupted from her bag, but she couldn't read what he was thinking, not now, after the initial shock.

"I know this might be... confusing. I still can't explain what exactly happened."

FFFFFFSSSSS WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE was heard from one of the smallest beings, it rolled in the direction of Mr.Mitterbill and started hopping up and down in front of him, shinning so bright that it was guaranteed that human eyes would have avert their gaze to protect theirs eyes.

Abby put her hand up to her face covering her eyes from the light as she spoke to it in a commanding voice "That's enough M!" making it stop "I've tried magic, all the spells I could remember to help me determine what they are, but they act as they please even though I do seem to have some sort of control over them.." she resumed, lowering her hand. She knew he must find her crazy to refer to it as human beings but she couldn't help it, she had grown rather fond of them.

She sighed, looking at the things for a few seconds before speaking again, scratching her chin "I could really use some help with this.."

Checking her watch, Victoria headed towards level 9. She had made some time to visit another department head and had been gathering some fantastic notes. This was a wonderful adventure, not only for her campaign, but just for personal understanding. She enjoyed learning about each department and was finding many interesting things in each.

As she made her way to the next office she went over some things in her head, mostly a grocery list, when she needed to pick Bart up from the train, when Cossy would be home, but also her campaign needed to be more seen in the community not just the ministry. That was just thoughts at the moment as she knocked on the door.

If anything it reassured him. Aside from that, he liked the young man. Enjoyed his company and found him intelligent. Thus, he considered him a friend as well.

He led them down the corridor to the black door and beyond it to the circular room which led to his office.
He had raised a slightly amused eyebrow at the comment but he knew it was mostly meant as a tease. The department head didn't strike the auror turned security man as anyone who would be involved in something that he'd have to confront him about. Even if not all of what had been said made sense to him anyway.

Simon followed Jasper's lead, heading towards the older man's office to continue their conversation in a place other than the semi-open corridor. As the offer was given to relax, the auror moved to take a seat in one of the sparse chairs that were located in the room for times with visitors to the department head. His gaze absently taking in the room and his host, complete with the bird he noticed on its perch.

Though she seldom had reason to visit level nine since Izzy left, the path down was still familiar, and without thinking, her feet lead the way.

Emily had with her, as she usually did, a couple of folders tucked in the crook of her arm. It was force of habit to travel with documents pertaining to meeting agenda items, or for pending meeting agenda items, and even hot cases. Items she might need at any given moment, depending on whom she was speaking with, and why. There was also the matter of her schedule, which was the first page in the first folder - not because she had a habit of forgetting, but simply as a precautionary measure. Who knew, perhaps she might forget one day, lose her head so to speak. Was there a prophecy for that? Were there prophecies on her? ... That was a thought to entertain another day.

Arriving in front of Jasper's office, Emily took the liberty of knocking twice, and standing a pace back in waiting.

Time was of the essence. Always.

On the whole it was still a bit confusing for Jasper, but from what he gathered the strange reaction of the aftermath of the spell collected from space brought with it some unintended effects. What sort of spell was that? At first he thought it might've been oppugno, or some other sort of defensive spell, but oppugno didn't do this and he couldn't imagine any circumstances under which it would, even if well-baked in the vastness of space. Then, he thought about their apparent attachment to Miss Lewis and how they seemed to obey her. He found something about that, not inherently dark, but certainly alternative. Not a spell that originated from Britain, or else a new invention.

The light from the shining body of the killer marbled called M caused Jasper to squint as much as his thoughts on how M came to be. His hands lowered slightly to shield himself from the light. "It's quite alright, Miss Lewis. I wouldn't expect anyone to have all the answers to a situation such as this. It's certainly unique and like nothing I can recall reading about in the archives." Though, that didn't mean it wasn't in there somewhere.

"I will do what I can to help you. In the meantime, you're welcome to keep the marbles here in the department. We wouldn't want them getting loose and being sighted by someone. Also, maybe we could pay a visit to the archives and see if any such thing like this could've occurred before. The department may not be that old, but the archives have been collected to extend beyond the time of the Department." Oh, time.

Meanwhile...

On the other side of the door...

A budding panic attack was taking place. Those occurred sometimes. More frequently now with added pressures and stresses to Mitterbill's new life. His new life. He never wanted the old one back, but it was often more than his fragile nervous system could bear. He heard the knocking, and then wasn't sure he'd heard anything until the black bird gave a sound like the one she always gave whenever someone unfamiliar was in their presence.

The Department Head needed to calm himself and he looked down at the magical desk gifted to him from a seer he'd helped years ago. Specifically, he was zoning in on the drawer which carried the calming draught, similar to the one he'd found a hard habit in his youth. No, he wouldn't reach for it this time. He'd find a way to serenity by other means.

He cracked open the door to his office revealing perhaps not his most welcoming face as he saw the woman behind the door to be none other than one of the candidates for Minister for Magic. "Mrs. Culloden." He said then exhaled as if he'd been holding his breath. "I thought you might have come today." Did she suspect he was losing it on the inside? "Please come in and help yourself to a seat." He offered, now opening the door for her and gesturing towards one of the empty chairs in his office.

Jasper twirled and drug his wand along the immediate space in front of him causing one of the drawers from his magicked desk to extend out a drawer that was almost too long to have tucked into it. The tea stash was revealed by this maneuver. "What do you drink, Simon?"

Sandra successfully unfastened one of her perches causing it to fall unceremoniously to the floor. Not what she meant to do at all. Hurriedly, she demi-glided to the floor to retrieve it, though Jasper beat her to it and refastened the perching branch to it's original location while he waited for Simon's response.

The duo-syllabic knocking of Emily Browne read as curtly to the older wizard's ears. Very official and professional, much like her responding letter. There was a certain formality to the witch that Jasper thought familiar to other Law Enforcement officers he'd met in his lifetime (even the muggle ones!) that he supposed went with the territory.

Righting himself back onto his feet with a short heaving for he'd been in Sirasana, the headstand pose, Jasper moved over to the door of his office and opened it for his fellow Piscean. "Come right in, Miss Browne. You're right on time."

Jasper's eyes were pulled away from the sight of Miss Brown's disarming appearance toward the folder she carried tucked beneath her arm. Of course there would be paper work to consider. Permissions of any type needed as many details as one could muster. At this point in time, Jasper's brain was considering the clearest possible ways of conveying the idea which was hatched by Mr. Summers that day at the meeting.

Seeing the door crack open she couldn't help but give an odd look as the man peeked through the crack of the door, nodding at her name she gave a small smile as he opened the door more. "Thank you Mr. Mitterbill, you thought correctly." Grinning as she made it fully into his office and finding herself a seat. "I hope I haven't caught you at a bad time, everything alright?" He seemed a bit on edge or something. She hoped it was a good time or that he was alright.

Moving a little uncomfortably she wasn't sure she should have sat, maybe he was sick? Oh no, she maybe should come back? "I can come back if you wish, I just wanted a bit of your time to speak about your department and your views about what their needs are and what you feel the next minister should do to help you and your department." It had been her mission to speak to all the departments and so far she was doing a pretty good job.

Through the left wall a silvery transparently shaped bald eagle flew into the office and stopped in front of the Mysteries Department head.

It opened its beak to speak in the voice of one of the expected visitors waiting in the Atrium. "I am Leobald Kitridge, School Librarian at Hogwarts and I've arrived with my colleague Abraham Botros to the Atrium to deliver the Fairy Tales Book of Fairy Tales into your care for further investigation."

Message delivered the bald eagle closed its beak before it dissolved and disappeared.

Jasper waved a hand as if to toss whatever was bothering him out of the window. "Oh yes. Everything is wonderful, really.", he said not at all believing it himself. He wanted to. But it, like his melancholy, wasn't the sort of thing one controlled. "Well, not wonderful. Not exactly. What I mean is there isn't anything wrong with the time you've chosen to visit. I'm always glad to welcome members of the other Departments into Mysteries." He was trying not to creep her out and it probably wasn't working. But Jasper was the sort of man who was both; prone to troubles of the conscience when others were fussed about him or even had potentially to be fussed about him and a terribly unconvincing liar in the name of preventing others from being fussed about him. It had resulted, throughout his life in him being rather inclined toward having to hide a myriad of things. He had gotten lucky with his empathetic Heather.

"Besides, I'd hate to trouble you to have to come all this way again." Maybe it was the lighting. Should he up the lighting and make the room brighter and more inviting? It would for certain worsen his state, he feared, but perhaps he could temporarily endure it for the sake of his guest. He waved his wand toward the floating light fixture and turned up the light. As expected, it gave him the feeling of exposure and intensified the anxiety he was feeling. He looked away momentarily and blinked several times as if adjusting only physically to the increased light.

"Very thoughtful consideration on your behalf, Mrs. Culloden. I'd say the needs of the Department of Mysteries are very ...unique. But I suppose most Department Heads would say the same of their Departments." He was fidgeting in his seat as if he were considering getting up and making small 1/4 behind attempts at standing without fully committing at all. His breath was also shortening. As if he couldn't quite get enough to breathe. "I'm...I'm inclined to think it's very true in my case...however." Exhale followed by a crossing and uncrossing of the legs. "Excuse me a moment, Mrs. Culloden. I apologize for my demeanour." The seer finally said before reaching a not-quite-steady hand toward the drawer he'd been eying before her arrival in his office. The lavender bottle with the prescription bearing his name on it was produced and a swig was administered. The calming draught coursed through his system until gradually his breathing was no longer short and quick but slow and deep and his large celadon eyes regained some of their sharp focus.

"I am subject to fits of anxiety and I felt one coming on just now." Though, he did not want to admit that to someone who might potentially be his future Minister. Or even anyone at all on a voluntary basis. Though, he thought Mrs. Culloden might have wanted an explanation. "I hope I didn't frighten you away from ever visiting my office again?"

Mitterbill spun in his office chair and stood up, moved over to a wall mirror and straightened his micro-dotted tie. It was them. The Hogwarts people had arrived. Wand on his person, he almost scrambled down hurriedly, knowing that he'd have to take the stairs so as not to keep the Professors waiting any longer.

Abby felt her hole body relax and her smile spread into a big honest one for the first time since entering. Her head of department handled the situation a lot better than she expected at first, I mean... we were talking about living marbles. How crazy is that? But then again, crazy should be her middle name, plus she worked in the Department of Mysteries so crazeh also came with the job.

"Thank you so much Mr.Mitterbill" she began sincerely " You have no idea how relieved I am that you're being so open minded about this. I have my own theories about this, one of which occurred to me in the Space Chamber the other day" she leaned forward in her seat, eager to share her thoughts.

FFFFFAZZZZZZZ BBBBiiiIIIIIIIIiiiiippp. The marbles rolled closer to Miss Lewis.

She smirked at the marbles actions. It was like they knew she was talking about them "This kind of behavior makes me thing this spell might have been related to Love. Motherly love, Romantic Love.." she nudged one of them with her index finger, making it laugh and roll.

"If you really don't mind I'll find a nice place for them to stay here within the department and then head to the archives to research on the matter." she reached for her bag and searched inside for the little pouch she usually kept the marbles.

Victoria watched with concern wondering if she should get a healer for the man, though he said he was fine, so she tried to go about her business. Getting her parchment and quill ready for any note taking and listening as she said his needs were unique. "I would assume as much coming from what your department does." She smiled encouragingly at the man. "I've actually had experience in your department. When I first had started at the ministry I decided I wanted to get to know people and to go about it I gave myself up for some potion testing. It was actually a love potion." Silly sounding now, but it was very entertaining.

She watched as he moved to his desk, "Oh it's no trouble to come back. I really don't mind visiting the other departments and if I do become minister I plan on visiting them often." She would certainly not be a hidden minister. She liked being out and about and making sure she stayed involved.

Seeing him drink something she adjusted in her seat and listened to his explanation, "No need to worry, you have not scared me off. We all have our own issues that we deal with. I've had plenty of my own hurdles to over come." She knew what it was like to have anxiety over things. Her's was different being it had come after having her babies, but she still understood.

Jasper hadn't bothered using the staircase steps in getting to the Atrium in order to meet with the Hogwarts officials. Instead, he'd used the bannister. It made him feel somewhat like a boy again. Good practice that, as his wife was expecting their first child again. When he landed onto the Atrium floor, he straighten his breeze-brushed appearance and spotted the two gentlemen not far off.

"Mr. Kitridge, Professor Botros. Hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long." He said with a smile. He hadn't, afterall, timed his commute to the Atrium. "Jasper Mitterbill." The salt 'n pepper wizard leaned forward offering a hand.

"That must weigh quite a bit. Let's get it over to the Department right away." He said assessing the size of the wrapped up tome. Just as Jasper was about to turn toward the stair well, he spotted the other wizard's cane. Right. The lifts. The lifts.

"Well, to the lifts, then?" He was still reluctant about the lifts ever since the chizpurfle attack.

Shaking the man hands holding onto the book with the other he said “Pleased to meet you Mr Mitterbill." Eyes dropping to the bag in his arms as he shifted around the book Leo responded with a shrug to the ministry man. "The book's not that heavy, but I prefer if we got it to the secuirty of your department sooner rather than later."

"Yes, let’s take the lifts." Leo agreed with a glance over at Abraham.
Abraham was murmuring some friendly words to Leo when the department head appeared. "Pleasure to meet you." He shook the man's hand politely and nodded to the idea of lifts. His cane wasn't heavily used right about now but if they weren't to use the lifts, Botros' knees would squeak and ache like rusty door's hinges.

The ride up (or down) to the man's office was quiet on the deputy head's part. He kept his folder under his arm and engaged himself in watching the fascinating place that was the mysteries department; Not everyone had the privilege of getting inside here, and yet to the department head's office. Oh and he had a raven, what a lovely little thing!

Just as she wasn't about to keep him waiting, it seemed he wasn't going to keep her either. This was good. She smiled politely at his welcome, stepping into his office space without hesitation. "I think you'll find I usually am," on time that is, "and please, it's Ms not Miss... or just Emily will do." Just a minor detail, that irked her. "I trust you've been well?"

The office space was of course... as eclectic as it usually was with the Mysteries type - though at least Izzy's had remained fairly neutral and grounded in her reign. The raven though, caught her attention as she helped herself to a seat in front of Mitterbill's desk. Generally speaking she preferred crows, but could appreciate the bird nonetheless, they offered a sense of mystery - go figure, it was more than appropriate.

"How many individuals are you looking at enrolling in your program?" she asked casually. Consider this jumping straight into business, or general chitchat, either way discussions ought to start somewhere.

The ride in the lift to the Mysteries department level was quiet. It gave Leo time to think about how to share with Mr Mitterbill what they knew about the book and what havoc it had caused in the castle during the past school year. Following Botros into the department head’s office Leo took note of the caged raven sitting on its perch behind the dept heads desk.

Walking up to stand in front of the desk, the book tightly wrapped up in its bag in Leo’s arms he asked. “How do you want to hands this Mr Mitterbill or do you prefer Jasper?” After a short pause he continued. "Do you want us to tell you what we know about the book first, before you get a peek of how the book looks? It’s not wise that we remove either the runic ward or the belt in your office because if awoken again the book's magic is very strong." Not to mention possessing and very sneaky.

Simon was content to let what happened to happen, knowing Jasper had the upper hand as host and the auror wasn't going to interupt and be rude to the department head. Even if he hadn't expected hospitality when he came down to check on things down at Level NIne. "Earl Grey tea would be fine," he answered, noting what the elder wizard had revealed. He had never been much of a coffee drinker and hot chocolate was more a drink for relaxing at home.

The raven's movement caught his attention as well as Jasper's and he watched as familiar and human interacted. The former Gryffindor appreciated the relationship as it reminded him of that of his bat growing up and the instilled love of animals from his magizoologist father.

Seeing the killer marbles subdued and Miss Lewis willing to keep them within the department and away from prying eyes gave Jasper a means of further relief. Yes. It would all work out just fine.

"I don't mind at all, Miss Lewis. I insist that they stay here." He said adding a bit of playful emphasis with a gentle pound of his fist onto the surface of his desk.

Love. That was an interesting theory. He would've loved to have seen it tested. Perhaps, they could test the idea. Mr. Lennox himself might even like to have a look at it if they indeed found a connection to the potent emotion. "You wouldn't mind if I joined you one of these days in the archives, Miss Lewis? I would be very interested to see what we could turn up on the marbles."

She smiled encouragingly at the man.

A smile, perhaps a very relived one at that was clear and present. This Culloden was quite good at saying all of the right things to calm his nerves. "That's a good quality. Not that I mind Kettleburn's less involved approach, mind you. He's done a very good job here, of course. I can't say I'd mind a more connected way of doing things." Admittedly, he was often very curious about other Departments and how they ran. "In fact, you seem to have many favourable qualities for the position for which you are running. I can see why you chose to run when the opportunity presented itself."

"Although, it's very likely true that all of the departments at the Ministry require security, I feel that this is especially true of Mysteries." That's what he was going to say before he bottoms upped the little lavender phial. "On the same note, speaking of sensitive information, I feel that certain information also needs to be freely accessible to the Unspeakables who work here so that they can continue to work on researching the everyday seemingly unsolvable things and use practical application with regard to their findings."

The smallest of chuckles escaped as Jasper gave more thought to Victoria having volunteered herself to take a Love Potion. It took a brave soul, but that much was obvious as she was running against quite a few others for the Minister title. "A love potion? How much was Evelyn paying you back then?" Joshing. Of course.

Once inside the office, the Department Head cleared a space for the book to be placed onto the desk. Slowly, gathering books and papers into bundles and turning this way and that as if to find suitable space on which to relieve his hands of them. "You may call me Jasper, if you like. It is my name." He said with a smile. Yes, they all knew that. And the Department Head flopped a book on Ancient Mayan Astrology, two folders and leaflets upon leaflets of parchment sheets onto the top of a nearby filing cabinet. Once the desk was clear, he took a seat. "What I know...Well, it's the sort of thing a dark wizard would create. There are, of course, other instances through time of books...being magicked to do the bidding of some dark wizard or another. Usually, it fell under the jurisdiction of communication. But they could be used for anything, really. I prefer to hold my judgements, but one thing is obvious: In the wrong hands, the book is highly dangerous. We will have to employee our best security with such an object."

"Mr. Kitridge, if you'd like to relieve your burden?" He said, inviting the younger of the two to place the book upon his desk. "Let's have a look at it shall we?" Jasper was imagining a heinous or even wicked looking typeface to be present. Something part way between wicked and playful to be lumped into the same category as mischievous without outright being so. Something that would interest children of Hogwarts age, the temptation of a perfect union of forbidden and harmless.

"And you say this thing...this book...possessed people? Including yourselves?" Or did he misunderstand Mr. Kitridge's owl?

"Yes, Ms. Browne. Just finished a short session of yoga." The words were out before anyone could do anything to stop them. Jasper, however stood smiling sincerely having very little knowledge on Emily Browne and sort of assessing her personality from the necessities for her line of work and the less concrete Astrology-related ideals. He was doing it wrong.

"I'm afraid I can't give an exact figure at the moment." The seer took a seat behind his desk and pulled out a drawer which had within it the stash of tea he kept for meetings and the like. If the sight of it wasn't immediately visible from across the surface of his desk, the scent of it surely was as a waft of bergamot from the Earl Grey fused with the citrus of the Lemon Zinger that hovered just above the Rose Hip. "This line of work is sure to attract a certain type of individual with specific interests in specific areas. Just how many of said types that would apply isn't precisely known. I think we could safely say, however, that I wish to accept no more than 8 individuals into the program." Jasper lit the small cauldron which sat nearby on a long narrow table. Boiling enough water for two or so people. "All of age, of course. All recent graduates." The chinking of chinaware could be heard as he pulled up the teacups. "Would you care for a cuppa, Miss Browne?" He prepared himself for refusal, maybe. She seemed down to brass tacks and business oriented.

Perhaps a moon in Capricorn?

At the request of Earl Grey, Jasper produced from his tea stash drawer a kettle made entirely of glass. Flakeletts of fragrant Earl Grey tea sat in it's clear belly. Lifeless-looking were the dried leaves of tea and bergamot bits until the hot water was added, causing them to swim around and grow in size. For it's strength the Earl Grey's scent filled the room with little effort.

He noticed the younger wizard getting a look at the raven and realized he hadn't introduced them. "Sandra. I got her from a pet adoption fair not too long ago. She can be a bit possessive, but luckily she's gotten used to sharing me with my wife and has stopped firing pebbles at her entirely." It had been so stressful for Jasper, being caught between both female entities. "She helps me with my other responsibilities." And Jasper wasn't even sure that was the word for it.
