Speaking of random employeeeees--she saw one woman gathering alllll sorts of goodies, and she raised an eyebrow. "Hi, there!" she said SUPER cheerfully, bouncing on the balls of her feet a bit. "What exactly is THAT?" she pointed at a weird food thing(bacon canapé). "And...is it GOOD? I'm Ember, by the way--" she held out her hand and BEAMED. "Always nice to meet people--and I just--UGH--"
So maybe she wanted to break out in song---THE HIIIIIIILLS ARE ALIVE, WITH THE SOUND OF MUUUUUUSIC!--but no. That was a bit much, Ember. Dancing was one thing. SINGING was another. She whistled a bit as she grabbed a plate...now WHAT to even GET? she wanted to know if that thingy that woman had was any goooood?
OH DEAR OH MY.
Ember spotted William. WILLIAM. She VERY eagerly flailed her arms at him. "WILLIAM! HI WILLIAM!" she cried out, definitely loud enough for him to hear. HEHEHEHE. And he had a NEWB with him! Ember. Was. DYING. WAS SHE COOL, WILLIAM?! "Are you continuing your meditations, WILLIAM?" she asked him...you know, still from across the way...

If that was the case..."Either way, thanks for saving me some." She gestured toward the single piece of pie she'd put on her plate.
Daphne nodded, because sitting and talking sounded just fine to her. "You know what? Yeah, let's sit and talk, because otherwise I'll just look lame being the new girl walking around with no friends and nobody to talk to," she said with a laugh. Now she had a co-worker...and a plate full of desserts. All was good. "William Williamson," she repeated. "Now that is a really unique name." Because of the way it used the same letters, that is. She wondered if his middle name was Will or something. "I like it," she added.
She'd given her name to the second man she'd seen in the buffet line, but just in case William hadn't caught it--"Daphne Addison...if you missed it earlier," she said. She situated her plate at the table he'd selected then extended her own hand to complete the shake. "I worked at the Norwegian Ministry of Magic in their Creatures department. This position started as a move back home for me, but I'm really excited about the change of scenery and the new opportunities." January and Harmony. She'd try to remember those names for if and when they showed up sometime later. Wasn't Harmony the name of her new boss?
Merlin, the newbie was a talkie, wasn't she? Still, she was down to deal with dragons, so she was cool. HAD to be cool. Willy had always liked all of his dragon peeps, 'cept for Jerry, that jerk. Always wanting to take bets on something but never pay up.
William had to swallow whatever he was eating by now in order to give the newbie--- Daphne ----a real answer. "Uh, well, my plan was to surround myself with food and not people, so I wouldn't have to talk to anyone, but it looks like it only half-worked." He sort of attempted a playful wink at her, but he didn't know her that well yet. So maybe it worked, maybe it didn't.
Haha, seemed she could joke though. Willy tipped an invisible hat at her. "You're welcome. If you need seconds, here, help yourself." He pointed to his volcano of food. "And... thanks?" She liked his name? He was probably blushing by now. "My initials are WWW, would you believe it."
N'aww but she was not lame, not with a pretty face personality like that. William's ears turned red just at his own thoughts. "You'll get to know these people soon enough..." he started to say, just as his lovely coworker Ember spotted him. Oh great. Not wanting to be rude, he waved, just waved, back, since OBVIOUSLY he was NOT meditating. At all. Ever! No!
"So, Daphne," he tucked into something else gardeny themed and resumed their conversation. "That one over there asking me about meditating is Ember. She's in pest control, ironically enough." Oops, had he said that aloud? "Very friendly as you'll come to find, I'm sure." Who else could he point out... oh, hey Gavin. William saw his nod and returned it with a small, two-fingered salute. "That's the Senior Undersecretary. Don't get in his personal space and you'll get along with him fine. He does a good job."
Who else... oh, she had worked in Norway? "Awesome! I love the Ridgebacks! Not as cool as the Longhorns," he chuckled, "but what a great breed. Did you love it?"

"I was lucky to find a really cute maternity boutique not far from my house." And she was finally in the stage where maternity clothes actually fit and she was obviously pregnant, not just in looser clothes. She was rather fond of the clothes she had bought and it was nice to fill them out a little with her cute belly. Not that she wanted to get all that much bigger.
She couldn't help but to laugh as Victoria acknowledged having trouble with her name. She could completely relate. "It does take some getting used to, doesn't it?" Of course, Vic would know that being married once before, but it had taken her a bit of time with her own name change as well. "It took me a good while too before it really became second nature to say De La Garza instead of Morgan," she admitted with a chuckle. "Even every once in a while, I'll still have to stop myself but it's becoming more natural now. And I love my new name."
She was glad Victoria was enjoying being a Mrs. again though, but she did frown a bit as she mentioned him going back to work. Of course, she did know that was his job, but she couldn't imagine only seeing Jorge a weekend or two here and there. "That has to be difficult. Hopefully he comes home as often as he can.." And that reminded her of something she had been meaning to ask but just didn't find the time in the busyness of the wedding planning. "So are you going to be staying at your house.. or will you be moving to Scotland?" She supposed she could get to work from there, but she figured since she didn't go back with him that he'd be moving in with her instead of the other way around.
Mariel raised a quizzical eyebrow as her friend continued and she ate her mini burger as she thought over the woman's words. "What's going on with Bart?" She knew teenagers could be a handful and Bart often was, but she wondered what was going on now. Washing down her food with a drink of strawberry lemonade, she smiled softly. "His sister and her family are visiting so we thought it best that he stay home. I probably won't stay long myself, but I thought I should at least make an appearance." So far it wasn't anything she thought Jorge would miss anyway.
“Well you look absolutely stunning in it. Pregnancy suits you Mariel.” She grinned at her best friend and her belly. Just so cute, she felt her own maternal feelings pull, but no none of that. She wasn’t having anymore children. Three was plenty and she had that taken care of anyway after the twins.
She chuckled, “It really does, do you know even after having Maroon for the past sixteen years I would use my maiden name every so often and really confuse myself. I don’t even know where it came from. I’d just be writing and stop and laugh at myself. So this is just going to be entertaining having to previous last names.” Which would she accidently right, it was just a matter of time to figure it out. “De La Garza just sounds fitting for you though.” joking with her friend was second nature and fun, plus having the last name of a reporter wasn’t too bad really. “I think you’ve helped the reputation of that last name actually.” all joking aside, the ministry seemed to have soften to him, so maybe she had.
A frown moved onto the happy newlyweds face. “It is, the girls got very use to him being there too. Alana is always looking for him, but he does come home on the weekends and a few times through the week when he doesn’t have any duties to fulfill. So I’m grateful for that. Plus I’ve been having some major trouble with Bart lately, so it’s nice to know he’s there to watch over him.” The boy was out of control and she really didn’t know what to do with him anymore. Listening to the next thing Mariel ask, she had fully forgotten about that. “Oh we are staying in my house. I just don’t want to move Bart again and Cossy didn’t actually have a house, he was in an apartment, well his stuff was. He traveled a lot, so it was an easy move. His family is in Scotland, so we’ll be there visiting some I would think.” Though it didn’t seem like they were all that close at times.
Yes the Bart stuff, probably not the place to discuss, but she leaned in to explain to Mariel what was going on. “I know he’s of that teenage age, but it just seems too young. I don’t know what to do with him anymore or how to get him to calm down. Of course his father is nowhere to be found when needed. Off in the Bahamas with Rebecca. I know she did that on purpose just so they couldn’t see Bart while he was home, but Jon should know better and stand up to her.” She was bitter about that, she was tired of him being a pathetic father to her son. She sighed and turned her focus on something more positive. “Well that’s nice. Is this the sister with the little girl that came to the meet and greet?” Victoria remembered the child just a little. “Well I’m glad you did, I wouldn’t have had anyone to sit with if you didn’t.” She grinned towards her best friend before taking a bite of her food.
Her eyes shifted as she heard someone say ladies, "Hello Gavin, wonderful to see you." She smiled at her male friend. "Did you have a nice holiday?" She had seen him for a moment at the wedding, but she hadn't got to speak to him all that much.

The pie was absolutely wonderful, because yes--Daphne had started her meal with the dessert and planned to work her way to the main course next. Daphne looked up when Mr. Dessert started explaining his whole plan at the buffet table. "Well, that makes me feel so appreciated," she joked. She was talking with somebody who really didn't want to be talking with anybody at all. Heh. "Just kidding. So what's the reason for the anti-socialness?" The anti-socialness that obviously didn't happen.
She caught that wink from him. Yeah, we saw you, William Williamson. He was going to be so much fun to work with.
She shook her head at the offer for seconds. "Maybe later. I should really start on my main course, I guess," she said. Then the topic shifted just that quickly back to his name. "So what's the second W stand for? Wait, no. Let me guess." She paused as she attempted a good thought process over it. "Will?" It was the only thing she could think of that went with the theme of the other two names he had.
His wave in another direction distracted her, and she looked over to see, or...hear, somebody singing and dancing their way into the area. "Well, that's one way to make an introduction," she said with a laugh. With WWW's dessert mountain, and this lady's song and dance, Daphne should really step it up. She listened as he pointed out the song and dance lady and a few others he knew. She caught that little pest comment but decided not to point that out, since they'd moved on to something else now.
"Of course I loved it," she said. "Oh, and I have to tell you this. It's going to come across as bragging, but I'm so proud of it. We restrained a loose Swedish Short-Snout a few months back. I got an award for it and all. We've got her back at a reserve now, but it was quite an ordeal." She'd been the researcher on the task, of course. She might have elaborated on that, but the song and dance lady, the one that worked in pest control, was making her way over. Daphne didn't say anything. How could she? Nothing she could say could keep up with the extreme hyperness this other lady exhibited.
So Daphne just smiled for now. Hii, fellow co-worker.
Good news was that he was back to work! No more wasting entire days doing absolutely nothing and now was back to his brilliant job of looking after his very own lab and brewing Potions and hopefully avoiding troubles in the Ministry. Which was fairly impossible, but oh well.
Bad news was that now was back-to-being-social. Or being quiet around people, more likely. At least he hadn't heard from that 'supervisor' in a VERY long time. He had his lab all to himself and hopefully it would stay that way for the foreseeable future.
And forever, preferably.
Derek actually nodded to a few people he knew as he arrived in the... garden. He thought it was strange to have a professional orientation in a garden, but he had learned not to expect anything normal coming from the Ministry of Magic. But yeah, nods at people he knew, because suprisingly enough, Derek was indeed becoming more sociable. Ih his own special way. Still, socialising in a quiet manner. That was his thing. He could ''''easily'''' sort of kind of not do this.
...
Okay, food.

Aron’s comment had raised a warning flag. If Sophie needed to bring her own food to work then she'd do it. The last thing she wanted to be was food poisoned. "Is it all right if I call you Aron or do you prefer boss, sir or even Mr Ashburry-Hawthorne?" It couldn’t hurt to know. All people in management positions Sophie had learned wanted you to address them differently.
Turning to Tucker who by appearance probably was at least 5 years her younger Sophie stuck out a hand for a shake smiling. "Pleasure to meet you Tucker; in what division on level 3 will you be working?" It’d be fun if she had already run into a close colleague in the lab.
Watching as Aron almost bumped into a newcomer (Cassie) with a camera Sophie’s interest was sparked. "Can you take both magical and muggle pictures with your camera?" She asked curiously. Her family had never been big photographers. They only took pictures at family gatherings and special occasions never to work functions.
Sophie was about to attack the rest of the skewers on her plate as another woman approached. Overhearing how the blond introduced herself to Aron, Sophie resolved that they'd be new colleagues. Munching down another skewer Sophie cleaned her hand and mouth on a napkin before she adressed the other woman. "Hello, did I hear right? Are you a new employee in Accidents and Catastrophes?" It was best to get it confirmed. With so many people milling about she could have heard wrong.

Speaking of new hires...OHMIGOSH. There were a bunch of them, all flocking to the department head and forming a decent sized crowd. Tucker couldn't help but smile - it was nice knowing he wasn't the only new employee on level 3. "I'm in Experimental Charms," he explained with a smile to the woman who had joined them. Sophie? Ok, good to know.
Oh, Mr. Department Head was talking again! "Of course! Tucker is perfect," he explained with a nod. He'd feel weird being called anything BUT that, honestly. Now that introductions were out of the way, he bit his lip nervously. He had to get something out of the way now, because otherwise...he'd feel like there was a huge elephant in the room until he got this off his chest.
"I just wanted to say thanks for giving me a chance, considering...my mum and all. I mean, she's amazing and all but I know she's rather, um...Slytherin?" he said, raising his eyebrow in confusion wondering if that was a good way to describe it. Yeah, he was pretty sure that was the best way to describe her. Slytherin. "I'm a Hufflepuff though, and I don't think I could be that devious if I tried," he assured him with a chuckle.
He knew he was serious though, right?

Using his first name like he asked was a good thing? Right? Yup it was. "You can call me Jazz for short if it suits you." she told him incase he wanted to. You never know. "Thank you sir, I am excited to be aboard. I love working with charms and can't wait to start in my new field. May I ask who is working in my department?" she asked curiously. She wanted to know if one of her co workers will be at this party.
Aron chuckled right along with Sophie, and even a bit more firmly with her inquiry. Had it not been clear that that had been a tone of sarcasm as well? Sure, there had been that unfortunate incident a few years back, but it hadn't been the food's fault exactly. "I eat from the Ministry's food court," he replied. Which should be a good enough answer. Suspicious of everything was a good trait to have for an A&C employee...but hopefully this one wasn't the sort to over stress about everything and active look for problems. Could drive a person mad.
"Aron will do just fine. Ashburry-Hawthorne is far too long to use out in the field, especially in a pinch." He could just imagine some new kid, maybe Tucker, stumbling over saying his full last name and getting whacked right between the eyes by a stray spell because his focus was lost.
Attention back towards the very same young man, Aron gave the boy a few firm pats on the shoulder. Really, the Hogwarts house comparisons did not mean much to him. Seren had gone over the details of each house with him a few time, but seeing as how he had not attended the school himself...it was hard to fully grasp. Still, not wanting to speak poorly of the kid's mother - incredibly unprofessional to do so in such a public setting anyway - he just grinned and nodded. "Good to know."
Slightly smug smile gracing his chiseled features, he nodded his head towards Tucker and Sophie as the blonde spoke. "Well, actually Jazz, these two right here are new to the department as well. Sophie is with a different division, but Tucker here is in the same division as yourself."

She would need looser deadlines of course, and a trial period to see if everything would work out. At the moment, Cassie had no idea how the timing would work. She'd just have to wait and see. "I'd be happy to provide wherever I'm wanted. I'm sure my own work space will be filled with plenty of photos." That made her wonder just what kind of a work space she would be getting.
"Immigration Officer," Cassie answered. It seemed a little bit ironic to her. She was very new to the country, and she would be working to monitor others who were also new to the country. Was she supposed to monitor herself? Heh. She directed a curious look toward Aron. "If you don't ming my asking, what is it exactly that you do in Accidents and Catastrophes?" That was one department she hadn't had any experience in, or heard much about at all. So she was interested.
"I may look you up sometime then," he winked. Could always have more room for flora photographs. Although he did try to keep Level 3's decorations to a minimum. Maybe just the reception area could use one or two. He would check with Ursula about all that.
"Well, I am sure you can provide your own unique perspective to that position," he nodded. Her question was...a bit of a weighted one and one that he could go on for hours about. It was quite a multi-layered and intricate department. "Well, to put things simply, the department is responsible for repairing any and all accidental magical damage, particularly when magic goes astray in the presence of muggles. So, cleaning up messes caused by wizards while protecting the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy."

He caught the nod and returned one to Gavin as well. Poor bloke, these functions were always a sort of nightmare for him. And while he was looking over this way, he caught sight of Derek arriving. Speaking of people who were not so great in social situations.
"Sophie," he said, turning his attention towards the new employee. "That bloke over there, Derek, also works in your division."

Skewers, elderflower wine and were those...... were those really edible flowers?! How long have they been a thing?
Picking one up, Bryce eyed it closely. The idea still seemed miraculous to him. Edible flowers.

Oh How LOOOOVELY! William waved back, and Ember had to SMIIIIIILE about this because he was AWESOME too, okay? Everyone in her department was so LOVELY. She wanted to just squeeeeeeeze them all to DEAAAAATH.
Only not really because then she'd have NO coworkers--and what a sad and lonely life she'd LIVE. Aaaaand he was speaking to a WOMAN. HMMM. DId he LIKE this woman?!?! Ember thought--MAYBE she saw little hearts over their heads--and it was done. In her mind--she was sooooo shipping them together--and suddenly--
IT CAME TO HER.
She would FIND out who this woman was as SOOOOON As work started again, and she would GET THEM TOGETHER.
CUPID EMBER, HERE SHE COOOOOMES!
She even shot a wink at William and gave him a thumbs up of approval-SHE WAS PRETTY AND TALKATIVE. William could use the positive vibes in his love life, right? Maybe she would speak to this woman later. Put in a good word for William--WHAT IF SHE PRETENDED TO HAVE A CRUSH ON WILLIAM TO MAKE HER JEALOUS?!
SIGH. She would have to think these plans through--because they were just TOO brilliant to pass up!

He could ''''easily'''' sort of kind of not do this.
...
Okay, food.
"DEREEEKKK!" Ember's shriek was probably way too loud. Maybe Ember wasn't very professional. OH WELL. Life was entirely too short to be professional. She LEAPT at the Potiony-dude and HUGGED him.
Last time she had done that...well, he had freaked out. But their friendship was BLOSSOMING and she hoped he would be more....OPEN to hugs now. "MY FIRST FRIEND AT THE MINISTRY. How ARE you, deaaaar?!" she asked excitedly, visibly bouncing again, all of her dangly jewelry clamoring around her head and ears and neck. "You came! Isn't this LOVELY, D-rek?!" she asked and she TWIRRRRRLED around him and patted his Head. "You're such an adorable specimen--DEREK. I am SOOOOO happy you came!" she cried.
Welp.
The Accidents head got a LOOK from her, yeah.

She really was out of her element trying to figure out the best living local.
"No, there were no issues," she said picking up the cucumber cup. "I'll still be working in International Magical Cooperation - I guess I was just hoping I would move up." She held back a sigh and then took a bite of the cucumber cup. "It'll be fine though. It's still something I love to do and I'll be closed to da' and to you."
Sounded like they were ready to do some house hunting...for her. He shook his head no. Nothing really. I suggest being close to the ministry, but beyond that, no. I've got one near Picadilly. I just like the hustle and bustle
He was happy that she got placed in the department she wanted. I am sure that she would have preferred a job more in line with her experience, but he knew that soon enough she'd move up. I'm glad we'll be closer together too. I'll be more than happy to leave the department and come spend time with you for lunches and such, if you're interested.
Mariel was not intending to do much more than make an appearance as she did not really care to stay. Certainly the last New Year's Eve ball the Ministry put on was simply stunning and she enjoyed herself tremendously with her then fiance. But she had the feeling this garden party was going to be only slightly more than underwhelming and she was merely here because it was to be expected. Not that she would have an affected attitude because of lack of desire to be in attendance. She would still be cordial and welcoming, but she'd also be leaving when she saw the opportunity.
She did somewhat wish that Jorge could have come with her, but with his sister and her family visiting for the weekend, it was only hospitable that he stay for them. And that was probably another reason for her not wanting to be here all that much, but it gave her good reason to excuse herself sooner than later. She did hope they understood that she had work obligations.
Food would be the first order of the day as she was growing rather hungry already and her hand went subconsciously to her swollen belly as she headed straight for the marquee. Everything looked so delicious and she grabbed a plate before piling on several of the canapes. Turning to grab one of the drinks from the table, she noticed one of her fellow Department Heads.. one whose name she had only just learned because of his recent promotion. Otherwise she'd still be calling him Mystery Man.. not that she'd mind to be called Miss Jarvey.
"Hello, Mr. Mitterbill," she said brightly, green eyes scanning the selection of beverages. She did miss having wine, though the strawberry lemonade wouldn't be a bad choice. Grabbing the glass, she turned her attention on the man in front of her again. "How are you settling in?" She knew he had the position for a couple months now, but it had been something of an adjustment for herself, she remembered, even the first year or so.
Jasper ran a finger along the fine edges of the teaware carefully inspecting it. Yes. Bone china. That was about when he'd heard her voice. And somewhat strange it was to hear it addressing him by his actual name. As if a veil were being gradually, layer by layer, pulled from their relationship. A strange new reality making it's way in and he wasn't sure if he mourned the loss of it or welcomed the new change. "Miss Jarvey." He said warmly, reaching out to greet her with a hug and realizing the obvious bump in her robes. "Well..." He saw her eye the beverages and considered the wine as well. He opted for tea for both the taste and consideration of present company. He took a drink then put the whole thing saucer and on onto the table within easy reach. "It's a bit nerve-wracking. But I suppose it's like that for all new appointees?" Oh, please say it was and he wasn't about to go into the early stages of a nervous breakdown...for the umpteenth time in his life. He couldn't afford another 'midlife' crisis at the moment. Not with his job and not with Heather.

She moved closer to the lake but watched as Jasper was greeted by a couple of people. She really should eat something, but her stomach was in knots, so she just stood and stared out at the lake.
Not that he wasn't paying attention, but all his thoughts caused the rather automatic reaction in Jasper to turn his head and look out for Heather. Ah, good. She was starring out at the lake. Relaxing. Maybe meditating? He'd never seen her meditate before. Had she'd seen something? Had it frightened her? "Heather?", he called with a waving of his hand. Get away from the lake? Come? There are canapes and cheese?

Others got small waves as they entered as well, but nothing more for the time being. Plenty of time to catch up with other employees.
Mr. Ashbury-Thistle...Hawthorne? What was that Department Head's name? Jasper wracked his brain a bit trying to recall the many syllabled name of his fellow Department Head, but he needed a handy acronym right about now. Well, anyway HIM...he was waving. Jasper gave a wave back and a warm smile. We saw you, laddie. Talk later, yes? So I can remember your name without reading it off of something.

The Senior Undersecretary approached the crowded table as discreetly as possible figuring that if no one recognized him he could be an invisible entity. No one need know he was there.
Ah and there was Aron...who was surrounded by people. All he got was a nod and sure enough he'd be able to figure why. To walk over to him, Gavin would need to inject himself in whatever conversation he was in the middle of and that was a lot of people to not offend so...he'd just stand here. William got a nod too because he wasn't necessarily the worst form of human company out there which might have meant he enjoyed the man's company, who knows?
Mariel and Vic were a little closer and got an acknowledging, "Ladies." Sometimes he still thought Mariel was in on some joke he didn't know but he'd never ask, he'd let them talk while he stood next to...this man here....yes. The one eyeing the food. "I assure you there are easier ways to poison man. The food's safe." In case that was something he was worried about.
There was also Gavin, who Jasper had had two encounters with. The pleasure of working with him, although only briefly and that time THEY ALMOST DIEED ON THE LIFTS!!!
Bouncing blueberries she waved her arm around more violently than a Whomping Willow. He pursed his lips and bowed his head slightly before turning his attention far faaaaaaaar away from her.
Jasmine was smiling to her boss and she had to ask, "Oh Aron I am curious to what department you work in?" She was just curious is all. "What tips would you have for a newbie like myself?" she asked. I mean she wanted to know some things before entering her new field. She even grinned when she used the nickname she suggested to him. Aahh so Sophie she just introduced herself to was in a different division. That was cool to know. Maybe she could teach her some things about her department. Then she noticed Tucker.
Jasmine went to go introduce herself to Tucker. "Hi Tucker.." she held out her hand for him to shake. "I am Jasmine as you know from the conversation.." she chuckled and smiled. "I guess we will be working together in the same division. It is going to be good to see a familiar face." she told him honestly. "You excited to start?" she asked curiously. She wanted to try and get a conversation going.
"DEREEEKKK!" Ember's shriek was probably way too loud. Maybe Ember wasn't very professional. OH WELL. Life was entirely too short to be professional. She LEAPT at the Potiony-dude and HUGGED him.

Welp.
The Accidents head got a LOOK from her, yeah.
As he approached the central table to help himself with a cucumber sandwich, he avoided eye contact with pretty much everyone. He had already done his nod-greetings so that was social interactions done. Done for the day, please. No more.
He was about to turn around with his sandwich in his hand to try and find a quiet corner he could sit by himself when some banshee decided to call him. Not really. He knew that voice too well, but that didn't mean he was startled big time and almost dropped his food.
Blinking several times, the lab technician was about to wave and give her a little smile. "H-" But then a HUG HAPPENED. AGAIN.
Why.
The man froze as if hit by a Full Body-Bind Curse, just like the first time she had done it in the previous year. He tightened the grip on his sandwich, which made it turn into mush on one side and he obviously didn't hug the woman back.
Yeah, yeah, he was good. It was all very lovely, yes. And Merlin, she said he was adorable again. What did that even mean anyway?
No need to say Derek was obviously bright red. Again.

No one could ever say that Mariel did not appreciate a well-said compliment directed her way and she beamed in response as Victoria bestowed several more upon her. "Thank you.. I am enjoying it." Maybe even more than she thought she would.. but she did love the attention, the way she looked, the little kicks from within. She got lost in thought a little thought as she lightly ran her hand over her belly and took a sip of her drink as Victoria continued talking.
Pulling herself from her distant thoughts, she focused her green eyes on her friend, chuckling a bit at her words. Three different last names.. that would make things interesting. But Mariel had grown fond of her new last name, in fact she was quite proud to wear it, Vic's next words causing another smile to cross her lips. "I do love it.. I think it sounds good on me. Oh.. have I?" she added, musing aloud softly. She didn't know if she did have an effect or not, really..and she did rather like the cutting edge stories that had been attached to his name. Hopefully if she had any effect on him or his reputation that it was in a positive light rather than negative. But she did like the connotations it held in her head.
She gave Vic a small, understanding smile as the woman spoke of her new husband. Merlin, it would be so hard for her to be away from Jorge like that and she was really glad she didn't have to endure that. "That's good that he can come home that often then." She knew it could be worse.. like last term with that freak winter and the floos not working properly. She nodded again as her best friend recounted the living arrangements. "That makes total sense. And I have to say I'm glad.. I like having you close," she added with a grin. Okay, that might be selfish reasons, but she could admit that. She had just been under the impression that he had owned the home in Scotland, especially given his age, but she didn't question it much. She liked this arrangement best.
Looking at her curiously, she leaned in a little closer as Vic did to hear her speak about Bart's issues, her eyes widening as she explained. "Oh my.." Slightly shocked, she sat back in her seat, absently rubbing her hand over her belly. "That is young.." She wasn't really out of touch with teenagers to think that, was she? She knew she didn't act like that at that age, though she was sure there were some of her peers that did. She thought a moment about how Jorge would react if their daughter was acting that way.. something she did not want to think about at all.. but she had an idea of how he would react or maybe with the boys she was hanging around, having seen his temper before. "Does Jon know what is going on with him?" Of course maybe she couldn't really reach him now.. which in itself was ridiculous. She could not stand weak men and she made a face of distaste as Vic mentioned him off with that dreadful Rebecca. "That is beyond ridiculous.. what kind of man abandons his responsibilities to run off with a woman like that as soon as she snaps her fingers?" Ugh.. disgusting.. be a man.
She felt somewhat bad for Vic, not really knowing what to say or have any advice to give other than keep him locked in his room. But what good would that do with him away at boarding school where she really couldn't do much except rely on teachers who, in her opinion, were generally inept. She hoped that her new husband was the exception to the Hogwarts standby. "It's good that Cosgrach is there to keep an eye on him then," she offered with a small smile. Maybe that would keep the boy out of trouble, especially now that he was officially his step-dad. Victoria seemed to be thankful for a change in subject and Mariel nodded at her question. "Yes.. you met Isa," she smiled, thinking of the girls. "Cassandra has two girls actually and it's been a fun weekend. She's starting to work on the nursery for us too." But she did feel that she shouldn't stay too long, being torn between family and work. "Oh, please," she chuckled. "I'm sure you'd have plenty of people to sit with." Victoria always seemed so much more social than she had ever been.
Looking up as she heard a voice address them and Victoria respond to it, Mariel offered the Senior Undersecretary a cordial smile. She had thought it rather kind of him to be in attendance at Vic's wedding though she really didn't have a chance to speak with him then because of matron of honor duties and being otherwise occupied with her husband. "Hello, Gavin," she said brightly. "Ready to get back into the swing of things?" While she did enjoy the break, she always looked forward to going back to work. She just had to remember to take it a little easier this time.

Marie's smile grew significantly hearing the nickname Jasper had for her and she returned the embrace with her one free arm. She did rather enjoy being called Miss Jarvey and thought for a moment whether he'd prefer the nickname she had had for him as well. Stepping back a bit as she realized her protruding belly had been noticeable with the hug, she chuckled as she let her hand rest on it. "Oh.. it's a girl," she said, smiling down at her belly before looking up again. "She's due in the Spring." The brunette was rather thankful for this stage in her pregnancy with the cute yet obvious bump and the morning sickness pretty much a memory.
Reaching for her glass of strawberry lemonade, she took a sip and nodded in understanding. "I think so. It was something of an adjustment for me," she admitted. Of course, it had been slightly different in that she had that dreadful hangar to maintain and there had been some tension between her and her best friend having become her boss, but yes, it was an adjustment. "But I feel like I'm in a good place with it all now, I'm sure you will as well. And if you need anything at all, even just to talk about how things are going, feel free," she offered with a cordial smile. She remembered the one and only time she went to Emily Browne for new DH advice and that ended in her husband getting arrested. She'd hope that she would be more approachable than that but the thought affected a subconscious frown to fall across her face.
Mariel had been lost in thought a moment and she took a sip of her drink as she pushed those thoughts away. She had been so good at letting that anger go and maintaining the professionalism she prided herself on, she wasn't going to change that now. But as her own thoughts had drifted momentarily, she had noticed that Jasper's attention had been diverted as well. Tilting her head, she gave the woman a curious look as she gazed out towards the lake, then offered a small smile in her direction before turning her green eyes back to the man next to her. "Your wife?" Merely a guess given the seeming protectiveness in his voice and mannerisms, but she could be wrong. It happened on a rare occasion.

SIGH. She would have to think these plans through--because they were just TOO brilliant to pass up!
"Oooh," William joked, smiling genuinely now, "my bad, did I admit to being anti-social aloud? It's nothing personal, it's just-" well, for him it was personal. He wasn't sure he wanted to say anything to Daphne just yet, considering they had only met. "-nothing. Don't worry about it." He stuffed a forkful of something into his mouth so he wouldn't even be TEMPTED to bring up no one important nothing.
Anyyyyyywaaaaaaaay. The guessing game about his middle name was much lighter stuff. Much better. "Will is my first name, short for William, only it never really stuck as a nickname for me." William laughed that off. "Willy, now, that stuck, but I don't think I'm cool enough to pass as Will. Guess again." His middle name was so old-timey, she'd probably never get it.
Yes, that Ember. Knew how to make an introduction alright. William's eyes flicked toward her for a brief instant, as she was likely the topic of discussion at many tables right now. At least she was positive, right? He just gave her one of those brows-up, firm smiles again and sort of leaned toward Daphne. "Warn me if she starts heading over here. I pranked her real good one time and now she thinks I'm into yoga and meditating...." When he was more into couch sitting, dog walking and sleeping.
Oh ho ho, she had restrained a Short-Snout before? "Impressive," William waved his fork at her in a bit of a bow, if forks took bows. Should he one-up her story? Now WAS the time.... "I raised a dragon once," he went for it, all casual like. "Hatched it at Hogwarts and brought it up back in Romania." Oh he definitely got all the credit and the blame, lots of that too for that one. Heh.

OH GOOD, Tucker wasn't going to have to say the man's name all the time! Perfect! He was sure he would mess it up at some point and embarrass himself, so Aron would be just fine with the newbie. "Sounds great Mr...uh, Aron, sorry," he chuckled. Old habits and all, addressing people by being all formal and whatnot. Plus he was all nervous and whatnot being a newbie, talking to his department head for the first time.
And he was talking about FIELD work. That was probably the one thing Tucker was SUPER EXCITED about! Actually doing THINGS in the REAL WORLD and using charms and stuff to solve problems! AHHH SO EXCITING! He couldn't stop smiling and he probably looked a bit loony, but who really cared, right? He was PASSIONATE. Passion was GOOD! "Speaking of being on the field, I'm very excited to get to work. I'm sure all the new employees tell you that, but I actually kind of...like when things go wrong? So I'm excited to get my hands into the action," he told him, still grinning ear to ear.
He couldn't help it. He was just SO EXCITED!

There really was a small crowd of A&Cers forming here, eh? Tucker smiled at the pretty blonde and shook her hand in return. "Nice to meet you Jasmine! Or do you want me to call you Jazz too?" he asked. He didn't mean to hear her whole convo with Aron but...well, he was right here. It was hard NOT to hear...
"I'm SO excited. This is exactly the type of work I wanna get in to - it runs in the family, I guess. My mum just stepped down as Department Head on Level 6, but she always loved charms and stuff more than that," he explained in a hurry. He had already gathered that he was walking into...well, not a BAD reputation, but definitely a REPUTATION when it came to the Schultz name. He didn't want to talk about her too much, because you never knew what someone thought of her...some people dug the whole 'I will claw your eyes out with my manicured nails' attitude. Some didn't. At ALL.
"I'm going to be working in charms development. You?" he asked, knowing that not EVERYONE was going to be doing the same thing in their division.

Mercedes nodded and added another one to her plate. "They are normally pretty good. " There was this little restaurant when she lived in New York that some really good ones that she ordered a al carte with this amazing dish that her dad would make on Thursday night.
She smiled and shook the other womans hand. "Mercedes Jones, newest Games and sports public relations." Hehe she kind of likes the sound of that. So professional. and Grown up. Adult like. Yeah this adult stuff was kind of fun.

Her BRIGHT pink dress certainly did the trick. It was kind of what she was going for, wasn't it?
"AH! Okay! Is this good or bad, love?!" she asked with a smirk and a chuckle--nomming on her food properly now--WELL THEN. This was fun. PEOPLE WERE GREAT. She wanted to hug everyone and sing and dance. Not enough DANCING going on around here!
"I focused on having fun at my last job orientation but having a boss that did nothing but talk about himself and how good he was, it was hard especially when I couldn't fire a spell at him," Tabitha told Ember.
Tabitha looked at Ember's ensemble and smiled. "I really love your outfit. It is really cool."
Amy walked into the garden party excitedly. She was ready to get to know her soon-to-be coworkers. She thought it would be a good idea to make friends with other ministry workers too.
Gripping her bag tightly, Amy looked around the event before heading for the food marquee. There were a couple of stations that got her attention, and the woman glanced around once more before taking a plate and surveying the food.

Aron opened his mouth to speak, but then nothing came out. Wait...what? Was she...really asking him...what department he worked in? The Department Head immediately gave the area a quick glance over to see if Rusty or the new Obliviator was nearby to play some sort of a prank on him. Making sure that he was on his toes and prepared for anything? Only nearly one of them was in the immediate area and while both gifted at their skill, definitely not good enough to be able to perform the enchantments from a distance.
"Is that...a rhetorical question?" he asked. Or her attempt at humor? As for tips...how about remembering what department he worked in? Har har har. "Don't drink the coffee on any other level or in the food court. We have the best in the Ministry on level 3." They could wait for the real serious advice once they got to the work place. Aron wanted to keep things as relaxed as possible for the time being.

"Relax, Tucker," Aron chuckled as he shoved both his hands casually back into his jeans' pockets. "You won't get much work done being as wound tight as a koru you know." So relaaaaaaaaax there kiddo.
Then the boy was...sort of being more of an unfurling frond than a koru, but at least his body language and overall energy wasn't so tight. Enthusiasm he could handle, as long as it was channeled appropriately. "Well, it is never a dull day for the department. Disasters never rest." Neither did stupid witches and wizards performing enchantments that they ought not. And then there was that one old woman who was walking her pack of crups in broad daylight in the middle of Banbury this morning. Crups without any sort of tail modifications done. Something he needed to actually speak to Harmony about. The woman had claimed to be a breeder but couldn't provide the Australian with any proper documentation.
People.

Krel was about to take a drink of her wine when she noticed someone walk by. “You can join us if you like,” she offered, moving Edward’s plate to the side. “We’re friendly, no wait,” she gave Edward a playful smile. “I can only vouch for myself. He,” she said pointing to Edward. “On I’m not so sure about.”
As she was done talking to her boss, she heard a voice and it made her jump. She turned around and smiled. "Why yes you heard right.." she laughed. "I am a new employee in Accident and Catastrophes. I am Jasmine.." she held out her hand for her to shake. "And you are..?" she asked curiously. She was happy to be meeting one of her future co workers.
Shaking the other blonds hand Sophie said with a warm beam. "It's a pleasure to meet you Jasmine. I'm Sophie and Iäm new to Accidents and Catastrophes too." Something told her that Jasmine wasn't in her division either but it couldn't hurt to get it confirmed. "I'm in the accidental magical reversal squad division. In what division will you be in?" It was fun to meet her co-workers but Sophie sincerely hoped that she wouldn’t have to repeat the official name of her division many times because it was a mouthful.

"That's pretty cool!" Sophie pointed out amazed. She didn't take pictures that often herself and bringing one to a job function had never crossed her mind. "So do you work as a photographer?" It was a plausible assumption since there were always media present at special events. A garden party could probably qualify. "I'm Sophie Connolly by the way. I work in Accident’s & Catastrophes. And you are?" she asked sticking out a hand for a shake. It was probably time to get the pleasantries dusted off.

Ok, good to know.
Turning her attention to Tucker she nodded."Cool, I'm in the Accidental Magical Reversal Squad.# Please don't tell me to repeat that. "Basically I will work in the lab and do field work." Yes that was better. Taking up a skewer she eyed it considering before she plucked it into her mouth. "So you like charms then?" Sophie wondered. A reasonable question since Tucker was now in the division that specialized on charms.

Suspicious of everything was a good trait to have for an A&C employee...but hopefully this one wasn't the sort to over stress about everything and active look for problems. Could drive a person mad.

Heaving a small sigh of relief Sophie said "I'll go check out the food court when I've settled in. On the days I'm on call for emergencies though I’ll probably bring a food box to work. I hope that’s okay?" Aron's firm comment had eased her worries somewhat but not totally. "I'm excited to see the lab Aron. Is it big and spacious?" She asked trying to mask her hopes. If it was small and stuffy she’d probably hope for emergencies to ensue everyday or her claustrophobia, might make itself more apparent. Hopefully she wouldn’t be working totally alone.

Again.
Following Aron's gesture Sophie studied the man that was going to be her co-worker for as long as she remained employed at the ministry in silence. Brushing a hand through her brown locks and making sure her earrings weren’t about to fall out Sophie was going to go over and introduce herself. However she reconsidered strongly when the dude was pretty much hug-attacked by another woman. Turning back to Aron she said "I uh think I’ll just meat him when we start working officially. Is Derek passionate about potions too?"

Krel laughed. It was nice that Edward was such a good sport. She just hoped the young lady they were encouraging to join them wasn’t easily frightened. She thought Edward was one of the nicest people she’d met, but then, she might be a little biased. She nudged him a bit with her elbow and then finished off her cucumber cup before continuing her act of luring the young lady into a chat. “I’m Krel by the way. This is Edward.”

Edward wasn't exactly used to hearing such an intoxicating sound as that of Krel's laughter. It was nice that she was enjoying herself and that she was enjoying herself with him. He took a sip of his pint as Krel introduced herself and then he made sure to join her in trying to welcome the new-comer in. I'm just kidding. "Hello, Gavin," she said brightly. "Ready to get back into the swing of things?" While she did enjoy the break, she always looked forward to going back to work. She just had to remember to take it a little easier this time.
"I had an interesting holiday yes, dragged here and there by a friend of mine who insisted he had to remind me what a 'good time' felt like." He'd have called it the worst trip of his entire life but it wouldn't be accurate. Stephen had messed up much worse before and there was no doubt he'd have future opportunities to drag him into the most uncomfortable of circumstances. "And you? With that busy wedding planning, did you get any rest?"
Mariel was living proof Gavin had improved socially since entering his newer position as Senior Undersecretary. A few years ago he might have commented on her weight and suggested she choose a smaller plate or better life decisions but he was well behaved and could remember not everyone shared the same views on child rearing.
"I am, actually. After a break like mine, work will seem like the vacation." He would have to look into locking his doors. "Will I need to put a work order on you or are you better at managing workaholic syndrome than our friend here?" Only half a joke. He could attempt as much if necessary.

The wave caught his attention from the corner of his eyes and that was when he noted a man he'd briefly shared a level with--as well as an elevator experience. Quite engaged in conversation, wasn't he? Gavin didn't even want to know how he did it. At some point, there was such a thing as too many people.
"Congratulations on the position." Officially. He hadn't been able to tell him before. More might have been said but...it wasn't worth walking into all those people.

There are easier ways to poison man. What an interesting start of a discussion.
Bryce turned his head to look over at....... oh. He knew this one, that was for sure. Whether he'd met him before was another question entirely but yes, he knew of this man standing right next to him. "I hope you're telling me this in a reassuring manner and not in a way that suggests you know a lot about poisons." The corner of his lips twitched up into a smile. "I'm messing with you. Curiosity got the better of him and he placed two edible flowers down onto the plate before another thing occurred to him. And then, surprisingly, his eyes found the man again. "You're the Senior Undersecretary, aren't you?"

And Bryce was nice. VERY nice to her. Not as cool as Harmony...but he was cool enough. YEP. And he was head of the second best department! WHOOOH!
The day Ember Brighten was anything less than overenthusiastic was the day Bryce would ditch working with plants to join a circus. Because gulping gargoyles, this woman always had a lot of energy in her and it made the Department Head wonder exactly how many sugar cubes she'd put in her morning cup of coffee.
"Good to see you again, Ember," he called, waving and smiling at her in return, "Very good, in fact. I ate more mince pies than I'm proud of but merlin, are they delicious." That was the sad thing about January: they got rid of those pies as soon as Christmas was over. "How's yours going?"
Kyle made her way slowly and carefully over to the food Marquee and glanced around. The food all looked delicious really, the normally shy girl picked up a glass of the lavender draught and thanked the servers before taking a long sip. The sweet relaxing note of the drink was nice, calming, and well just what she needed.
It all looked delicious she noted as she made her way slowly through the line and picked up a plate. Picking up a little glass filled with chilled soup, and one of the goat cheese the little bruschetta’s she tried to find someone anyone to talk to. After all, the ministry had just gone through one of its annual hiring sessions and well, maybe there were some nice new people for her to meet?
After all she would love to meet someone. As she continued along the marquee glancing around at the people near her she spotted them. Pastries and deserts. She didn’t even bother putting them on her plat she just grabbed one of the crystallized lilac Petits Four sand placed it in her mouth and chewed and she did the same thing with one of the little Lemon Meringue flowers the flower melting as it hit her tongue. She probably looked like a slob right? She didn’t care.
