So Victoria did what she always did at ministry functions, went alone. Taking forever to get ready, because she just had to look perfect, she finally arrived. Looking around she smiled at the people as she passed, hoping Mariel would be there so she had some support, but knowing with a new baby it might not happen.

Finding herself in the Buffet area she looked at the food. It smelled good and spending all day at the office making sure it was running smoothly she had just a little lunch. So food would happen before the evening was out, but something else caught her eyes. Yes, the podium and she felt her stomach turned in knots. She had seen that Daily Prophet article and how it showed she hadn't been at the ministry as long as the other candidates, so now she had to really prove herself more.

Looking around she figured she would just get it over with and walked straight up to it.

"Good Evening, My name is Victoria Culloden and I am one of your Minster Candidates. I've been with the ministry for six years now, I've been part of an amazing group and have been able to lead in many ways. I've seen the ministry go through many things in my time there and feel that Minster Kettleborn has done a great job and I thank him for his service. I do feel that going forward I would make a good minister. I have many ideas on ways to change things, such as bringing more ministry involvement to the community with things like community service days. I would like to see the Board of Governors, Headmistress, and ministry work closer together and bringing a work program for seventh years to get a feel and experience of what jobs in the ministry are really like. These are just a few of my ideas and I am excited to share more with you as the campaigning seasons goes on. I hope you have a wonderful time tonight and thank you."

She stepped away from the podium and took a deep breath. Her nerves making her heart race, but that part was over and she could possibly get some food. Making her way over to the Buffet she looked to decide what she wanted.
Amy entered the party, flattening her blond hair swiftly. She looked around the room for a good place to begin meeting candidates, and decided on the buffet table, attracted by the smell of food. She made her way there, just in time to listen to a woman making her speech. Amy ignored the food for a while, and faced the speaker. She had read from the papers the name of all candidates, and remembered Victoria Culloden clearly.

As Victoria finished her speech, the nineteen-year-old clapped politely. She had given the Amy a nice first impression, therefore she wandered over to the candidate. "Hello," she smiled. "I'm Amy Harrington. That was a great speech you made." She commented.

Victoria might have arrived there husband-less, but she wasn't going to leave so. Yes, he had a few matters there, but he worked efficiently and was there JUST in time to hear his WIFE's speech.

Pride. So much of it in his chest that it felt like he would explode.

He clapped the LOUDEST when she finished and was about to go congratulate her, but a younger man approached his wife. The Professor decided to give them a few minutes to converse, might be she would want to convince this younger man to vote for him. He wouldn't want to interrupt that, but someone with a quill was already cutting off their conversation - a reporter, possibly? - so, that was his cue to make an appearance. A family always left a very positive impression on the papers, after all.

He was in his best suit, his hair was combed by a hair dresser and he wore his best perfume - he certainly was going to look very presentable by his wife - a candidate. He put on a confident smile, and walked to them just as another woman was congratulating his wife.

Yeah. Victoria. She rocked.

"Mrs. Culloden," he greeted her with a charming smile, "that speech was brilliant." It really was. He then turned to the other three people by her side and nodded at each of them. "Cosgrach Culloden," they ought to work out the surname part and understand he was her husband?, "potions professor at Hogwarts." See? Her case already had very good support: she was married to a professor. She had direct connections at Hogwarts. Was this reporter taking notes?

...

He politely turned his attention to this other candidate, and didn't snort only not to damage Victoria's reputation by looking rude. Otherwise... military camps? He didn't know about other candidates, but Victoria would surely have more votes than this one.

SPOILER!!: Roxanne Carter
Quote:
After excusing herself from the bar, mixology table, whatever they wanted to call it, Roxanne made her way around the room. Once she reached the buffet, the smells that reached her nose started to make her hungry. But she was determined not to eat until she'd made her speech. Didn't want to risk spilling and then having to go to the podium with a stain on her clothes. Talk about embarrassing! The food was hard to resist, though, and she looked around to see who else might be headed for the blasted speech stand. Seeing no one, she decided to go ahead get over with because food.

Stepping up to the podium, Roxanne tapped on it in that special way that causes that annoying screeching feedback sound. Heh. Playing it off as an accident, of course, she muttered oops with a slight laugh. "Now that I have your attention," she began with a smile and a hint of a laugh in her voice, "I would like to share with everyone a few of my plans for if I'm elected your next Minister for Magic."

"For starters, I very much agree that there needs to be a better relationship between the Ministry and Hogwarts. Not necessarily complete butting in, but a relationship where the leaders of Hogwarts trust the Ministry enough to come to us for help before things over there get completely out of hand.

Another thing I'd like to work on is Ministry spending. It is notorious for being out of control amongst the other countries. In fact, there's a joke about it in France, but I won't bore you with it here." Not that they'd appreciate it anyway. "Britain can do better than having conventions for flying carpets that people here can't even use anyway, since they're banned. Or Meet-the-Quidditch-players that the league should really be hosting on their own. Under my plan, Department Heads would have to justify any spending verbally on the spot. If they can't, they don't get the money.

Also, I would like to work more on department unity, not just Ministry-wide but within individual departments as well. It is my experience that people who know and trust each other better work better together. To that end, each department would hold monthly training sessions in which they would stay together in a barracks, military style. A boot camp, if you will. Because, in my experience, the only group that's as close as a family is an army.

Thank you for listening and enjoy the rest of your night!

And with that, Roxanne stepped away from the podium and towards the FOOD!
Mariel had slipped away from Jorge for a few minutes as he was making the rounds, getting this quote or that from the candidates, so she could take the opportunity to speak to Victoria and lend her support before she left for the evening to return to her newborn baby. She had heard her speaking from the podium not long ago so she figured that she would find her friend near there and so headed towards the buffet area.

As she walked that way, the wine glass her husband had gotten her still in her hand, the brunette heard another magnified voice. Roxanne Carter, wasn't it? Green eyes snapped to the former British Ministry worker as she stopped to listen a moment. Of course, Mariel would likely be throwing her vote a certain way, but she'd certainly be fair and hear everyone out.

Or perhaps that wasn't a good idea.

The more Roxanne spoke, the more annoyed Mariel felt. Did she really have the nerve to so openly speak on things that she clearly knew nothing about? Normally she would have just rolled her eyes and moved on, but when she brought her department into it, no way was she going to keep silent. And Ministry boot camps? She wasn't sure what Roxanne's department was like when she was running it, but she had no room to speak on Games and Sports, not when she had the remarkable team that she did. The woman had clearly lost it.

Once the woman had finished speaking, Mariel took a deep breath and began counting backwards in her head to calm herself down, her hand tight around the stem of her wine glass. 100.. 99.. 98.. 97.. 96.. The hell with it, she had something to say and it wasn't going to wait. "I beg your pardon, Ms. Carter," she began tersely as she approached the candidate. "Mariel De La Garza, Department Head of Magical Games and Sports," she added as a way to identify herself so the woman would know exactly where she was coming from. "I'm not sure where you get off publicly calling out my department as potential money wasters, especially when you have no idea what you are talking about. My entire department worked their collective behinds off to secure donations and sponsorships to help fund that Quidditch Meet and Greet, an event that was not only beneficial to the community but to the Ministry as well. Not that I need to answer to you, but I can assure you or anyone else that would ask that I can justify every last knut on the spot." She was sure that Ms. Carter had no idea of what their budget was, how much they spent, how much they received in donations, or how much was profited. And trying to point out wrong-doing when there was none was no way to win votes, certainly not from the people who were accused of it when they were simply working hard to do their jobs and then some.

"I suggest you have your facts straight before you make another public outcry denouncing the efforts of hardworking people." Yes, Mariel was livid over the woman's accusatory words and she breathed deeply to calm herself, not yet moving from the spot she was in.

SPOILER!!: Victoria Culloden and Cosgrach Culloden + anyone near them
Quote:
She had heard the claps and gave everyone she passed a smile and nod. Her heart a little lighter, though still heavy without her family there. Her parents were in the other room she did at least see them.It was nice to have them there her dad former MLE seemed very proud of her move to try to become the next minister. Nodding to two reporter looking people she passed the on the way to the buffet, though the man stood closer looking at possibly the food. "It all looks good, I'm not sure what to try first." Was that the problem he was having as well?

Hearing someone come to the other side of her she turned. "Simon, thank you. I didn't sound too nervous, did I?" She worried about that. She wanted to sound confident and ready. "How are you? How's MLE?" She hadn't visited in awhile, Emily always seemed so busy when she did, that she figured she'd leave her friend alone and maybe catch her after work one day.

"I hope you are having a good time. It seems like a pretty good turnout." She knew he worked many of these events, but she did hope they got a chance to have fun as well.
Once she was finished with all that she had to say regarding her department to the other candidate, Mariel down the rest of her wine and went to get some water. She was still taking deep, calming breaths to calm herself, wondering why she had left her infant daughter to come to hear such rubbish being said about the work her and her department did. No, it was good that she had been able to defend their work... plus she was here to support her dear friend.

Once she got a glass of water, green eyes scanned the immediate vicinity where she soon found Victoria surrounded by well-wishers, most notably her husband. So he was able to come after all. A pleased smile grew on the brunette's face as she walked over to them. "What a wonderful speech, Victoria," she said, smiling widely at the woman. Sure, she was annoyed by the speech that followed, but no need to dampen her mood for the support of her friend. "She really does have a lot of great ideas, doesn't she?" she told proudly announced to everyone in their immediate vicinity. And it would seem they thought so as well. "And it's wonderful to see you again, Cosgrach" she added with a smile directed to the woman's husband. "It's nice that you could make it tonight."

Speaking of husband, the man made his appearance beside her, greeting the group that was growing around Victoria. Potions professor...eh. The man certainly seemed friendlier and less standoffish than his predecessor whom he had spent his schooling learning under. Wait...Lafay had been married to the minister as well, Greingoth. Wow... that was a coincidence though not a bad one. "Pleasure to meet you, Professor," Simon returned with a polite nod. "Simon Bennett," he added, offering his own name in return. "MLE."

Roxanne was next at the podium and all he could think of was what was she thinking? That was bound to get a few people on edge, especially the ministry workers effected by her comments. Didn't she realize it was better to not upset those who could potentially be the ones eventually voting for you. Not a good meet up to begin with.

Simon soon noticed another woman join the support of the Quidditch head. This one he did in fact know, however their past was hopefully behind them. Mariel had never really been the one he had had a problem with anyway. So he was safe as long as marriage had calmed down Jorge's jealousy. "Yes...she does," the auror agreed truthfully. Certainly better than his former colleague. Jury was still out on her in comparison to Alicia though so he was keeping his final opinion open-minded.

Really, anyone going for the role should be concerned with some worries and nerves. It was the overconfident ones whom you had to watch out for. The ones who thought themselves way better than the rest. The quidditch head was surely not one of those candidates but more down to earth.

"I'm good, and the MLE is...alright." he answered as truthfully as he could. Same old same old pretty much. Sure there was the incident with Genevieve and Peverall but Simon wasn't spreading that around. And even if he was willing to share even the smallest details, there were too many prying ears and quills around. As for having a good time, well, "So far, so good," was all he could remark with a small smile.

Remembering her changing in name, he was about to speak up and offer congradulation when they were joined by a reporter with one od said quills. Correction...head of the Prophet...which Simon supposed was somewhat better than the redhead reporter or Merlin forbid...Jorge. The last thing the auror needed was memories of more drama, the main staying quiet as questions were asked of Victoria.

Eggs? Victoria looked at them but truly wasn’t sure that was something she would want. “I’ll keep that in mind.” She turned her body more towards him as he said her name and stuck out her hand, “You are the editor at the paper, Mr. Skeeter? Being the Division manager of the quidditch department I get to know many names in media.” She wasn’t a stalker or anything. He was asking her about her speech, but of course. “I feel the need to have stronger ties not a heavy hand. The headmistress and the Board of Governors do a good job at the school. It is still the best school, I just feel we as a ministry could help them as much as they could help us. I think the ties are fairly good, but with things that have gone on there I feel if we had a stronger line of communication maybe we could get to the bottom of why it is constantly having something wrong.” She knew this was a very sensitive topic, but it was one of her big reasons for wanting some changes. “My son is a fourth year there and my husband is..”

That’s when she heard Cossy's voice and turned giving him a huge smile. “You made it.” She hadn’t been sure, but the fact that he was there meant so much to her. She put an arm around him and kissed his cheek. Turning back to Mr. Skeeter, “as I was saying and my husband is a professor there so I feel it important to make sure our relationship with the school, headmistress, and the board is very open. The work study program I was speaking of is something I’ve been thinking about for a year or so now. I’ve notice a huge population of employees graduating Hogwarts and coming into the ministry. Many departments have entry level positions and training of their own, but wouldn’t it be nice to have some work study programs for these seventh years that know they want to work for our ministry to get a head start? It would be a great way to show them what working at the ministry is really like and get them very valuable work experience that many do not have.” She felt it was a great opportunity and experience for the younger generation.

Looking back to Simon she smiled, “I’m glad that it didn’t seem like I was too nervous. I’ve gotten use to public speaking with my position, but this is the first time to fully state some of my ideas to the community.” She knew some of the candidates would never admit something like that, but if there was one thing Victoria was it was honest. She wouldn’t lie or hide her true feelings. She was curious to his comment about MLE, “Is something wrong?” She’d hope not, all the MLE people seemed so nice and Emily did such a great job.

Hearing another person come to the podium she stopped to listen and her eyes widened right from the get go. Why would anyone talk about another area joking about them if she wanted to be elected? Then her eyes narrowed as she called out her event. She was the division manager and that event was her baby. They were the head of the league, did she not know that? Honestly how was she running if she didn’t even know how the departments worked? Plus she had thoughts about flying carpets and thought that event had a great importance in the future of them. Training sessions? Obviously this woman had no children and no thoughts on family first. She loved her job, but felt the ministry supported their employees having families and this woman was stating she’d take that away.

Another voice (Amy) caught her attention from that speech and she put her best smile back on, reaching out her hand. “Hello, Victoria Maroon. It’s a pleasure to meet you Miss Harrington.” This was a little exciting having someone come up to her. She loved meeting new people and the face that she liked her speech was just wonderful. “Well thank you. What department do you work in if you don’t mind me asking?” She was needing to get to know more people in departments and have connections.

Turning back to her husband she beamed, “I can’t believe you made it. This means so much to me that you did.” She knew he was busy, but the fact that he took the time to come and be with her and support her was just amazing. She felt so lucky and a bit more confident with him by her side. A voice made her eyes snap towards two people. Ms. Carter who had just spoken and her best friend and Mariel seemed hot. Which she had every right to be and Victoria was glad she was speaking up. Though she felt like she couldn’t help back her friend at the moment, not that Mariel needed it. She was doing well on her own. Seeing her come over she gave her a smile. “Thank you.” it was great to have the support of her best friend and a great department head. “You alright?” She’d had blushed by Mariel’s comments about her ideas, but she did feel they were good and her confidence had risen in recent years to know she could do this.

Jorge had been still talking to the others in the drink area and taking notes down on things he needed t remember when he heard the speech that he knew would send his wife into a tizzy. Though he highly enjoyed her feisty side this was probably not the place to bring it out. So he finished up as quickly as he could and made his way towards the food giving Victoria a nod as his eyes moved just in time to see Mariel speaking to the candidate, Miss Carter. He crossed his arms and just watched with a smirk on his face. That was his wife and he just loved how she stood up for herself and her department. He couldn't be prouder.

Turning his eyes he noticed Basil and Tori giving them both nods he kept an eye on his wife to make sure she was alright as well as tried to decide where the actual minister was. He wouldn't mind gathering his thoughts on a few things.

The one man huddled alone in a couch somewhere closer to the front for better visual of the lecturn? That was the Senior Undersecretary. Somehow he'd managed to make his way through the sea of people in order to get a better look at the candidates--one of whom would be taking over for Albert when this was all over.

The uncomfortable look he sported was a mixture of several things, one being the amount of people here Merlin where did they come from, what even?? and the speeches thus far.

When he got home he'd have to brew himself something, it was official.

The man sat quietly, hoping to go unnoticed while he did something he hadn't done in quite a while. People watching was an effective tool when in uncomfy situations. It made you feel like you had some control over the situation and it was dead amusing sometimes. Like now when Mariel had decided to take on Ms. Carter. Gavin remember her from the last election she ran in and he prayed to Merlin this wouldn't be the one for her either.

Others had started to make their campaigns known and Erica decided that she’d much rather mingle at least for now. She felt there was very little point in getting to the podium when the night was young and the numbers weren’t up entirely. That and she felt like she’d like to be acquainted with her potential voters before she got herself out there. She was still finalising her thoughts and ideas in her head, taking note of the others seeming obsessions with interfering with the school when really it was not of their concern. They had elected the board of governors not long ago and should it not be their responsibility to ensure that the school is running as smoothly as it should?

Her mind was far more focused on the wizarding world as a whole not just what their children were getting up to.

Business and not pleasure? “Surely it wouldn’t do any harm for you to take a bite? You’re potentially a voter too and quite frankly I don’t see why you can’t have pleasure whilst doing your job.” See? She had good ideas, good values. Erica Radley was certainly making an effort tonight. She enjoyed her career at the Ministry and what she had done since leaving.

And there he went with his quill and parchment. The miniature brunette glanced up at him with her eyebrow raised slightly. Her height didn’t bother her but the potential interference of press might have. She hadn’t had a negative experience yet, not that she knew of anyway. Who knew what the ‘slightly questionable’ publications were saying during the presence of the Cult back in her day. “It would have been rude not to.” But it also would’ve been rude to hound her for an answer too.

“I don’t think I would make a particularly good campaigner if I kept my ideas secret” she laughed a little, a bright musical laugh that may have been slightly false. Goodness, keeping up this cheerful act would be quite an effort. “I also don’t see why we shouldn’t all share our ideas in general. Is that not what democracy is about? We should be a fair nation, I’d listen to the thoughts of the voters, it wouldn’t all be about myself.” Yes. Communication, equal rights in ideas. Yadda yadda.

Then Mr Prophet gallivanted off to speak to another candidate and Erica watched with her arms folded on her hips. Men were so easily distracted sometimes. She sipped on her drink and waited for the reporter to turn his attention back to the blonde. She weighed up her ‘competition’ briefly. She was also another of those ‘must protect the school’ types. Honestly she just thought these ‘mothers’ wanted to be as interfering as possible. Erica was a mother too, a proud mother of a son and a daughter and she knew what it was like to be a parent in this world. A single parent at that. But she didn’t want to worm her way into the education system, she wasn’t a Professor or anyone qualified to dictate what the schooling system should be like but she wished to protect the children in every other possible way she could.

Honestly.

Well, once while she worked for the International Cooperation department. “I’m not aware if any funds are being provided actually, I personally do not have a campaign manager as of yet – though I feel that I act as one in my own home most of the time seeing that I have a five year old daughter, and triplet two year old sons” she admitted with a laugh.

“Honestly if you have any questions for me as far as how I plan to be as a minister please feel free to ask, really ask me anything you would like” she grinned. Alicia was about to send Victoria Bunbury another nice comment a compliment on her outfit as she did like what she had worn to this event but a voice had distracted her. “Jaxton!” She grinned, “Miss Bunbury I would love for you to meet my dear supporting husband Jaxton Tanner, and our…his children? My niece and nephew and adopted children its complicated really Kyleigh and Eduard Tanner” she grinned. “You should have told me they were coming missy” she laughed pointing her finger at Kyleigh momentarily.

A refreshing idea--- "HA!" Tori let out a small bark at the pun, her quill scribbling something that ended with an exclamation point. "Love it. Go on." And the woman did, saying so much that her quill had to work overtime to get it all down on paper. "So you're French...I see. Do you think that will bother the voters at all, considering the Brits' long and not always pleasant history with the French? Don't you think they might want someone a little more domestic, who truly understands the people?"

UGH she was such a good reporter, truly, Tori outdid herself sometimes.

As for the family pitch... blah blah blah, that's all been done. "Mr. Tanner, a pleasure," she lazily tossed her wrist toward him for a shake or whatever.

Text Cut: Preston
QUOTE=AmbiguouslyMe;11685307]Preston extended his hand for a proper shake. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance," he said with a nod, listening intently to her question. He took a moment before answering, as was his custom, to consider his words carefully.

"It was a resignation, yes, in order to attend to a family matter that required my presence." Which, Preston supposed, was a matter of public record, seeming to recall that his sister's obituary some years later had mentioned his role as caretaker. "It was a great sadness to do so, as I greatly value education and teaching. I resumed my tutoring practice for a while, before returning to the legal and legislative realms as a consultant and advisor, a field, I might add, where I began my career, prior to teaching." And a fact that the recent article in the Prophet had so neatly omitted.

Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a candidate (Victoria) approached the podium. "Excuse me a moment, Miss Bunbury, I would like to listen to this." Turning to face to woman as she spoke, Preston's face remained quite neutral, though, had he been in a less public venue, he would have certainly raised an eyebrow. He'd gotten no sense of the woman, though, looking around the room, he suspected many may at least be familiar with her as a current Ministry employee. This was one of Preston's challenges. He entered the field a virtual unknown except to those who had directly worked with him, or been taught by him. Advisors and consultants were rarely seen, even if they were often the driving force behind a particular initiative.

Such manners with this one. Tori was getting the impression that he might be a bit of a stiff, probably a strict professor too.

"I see," she replied simply, realizing that it was going to take more than a few see-through loaded-baked-potato questions to get the dirt on this one. "Well, thank you for your time Mr. Kingsley... Mrs. Tanner. I should mingle with a few of the other candidates now." And with a forced polite smile, she fell back into the crowd to strategically make her way somewhere else.

Somewhere else, then, happened to be near Jorge's shoulder, where he appeared to be watching a brewing catfight. "Are you jotting any of this down, or will I have to take the notes all night?" she leaned in to whisper at him. Heh heh heh, his wife was a real firecracker all right. But go her! That Roxanne Carter had gotten a big, crazy ego when she'd run off to France (or so Tori felt from her introductory speech).

A better relationship between the Ministry and Hogwarts? While Althea wasn't against that in theory, it amused her in practice. So, Roxanne, having failed to be elected in that race, was trying another method to meddle in the affairs of the beleaguered school?

That Maroon woman at least had had a more concrete idea regarding the working relationship between Hogwarts and the Ministry, and Althea certainly supported that as a current governor, and as someone who had worked as a Hogwarts professor and as a department head herself. She was positioned to have a unique view on the situation really. Indeed that was what the charitable organization she helped run was in the business of doing, focusing on education and on furthering said education to provide more opportunity for school-aged graduates, so that they did not simply stop after gaining their NEWT level qualifications, and she was certainly a fan of internships, such as those that Diagon Alley ran during summers, and also the entry level training programs such as the YATI program which she believed MLE still ran. However she would have liked to have heard a little more detail. And as for the working relationship... well. That was on the Headmistress.

As for departmental spending, Althea as a former head herself (who had used her budget on necessary renovations, employee upskilling, and general improvements to the structure of A&C) found Roxanne to be blind to the bigger picture. Either one of the department heads who had hosted the particular events the woman had mentioned would obviously be able to justify said events 'on the spot'. It was a ridiculous way to take measure of the circumstances. The woman's financial acuity was clearly as faulty as her political one.

And the military style boot camp? Never mind the fact that employee training was a department-internal process, and those on level 2 and 3 (at least, she wouldn't speak directly for any other departments, but then apparently Roxanne wasn't in the business of actually consulting any department heads on what systems they may or may not have in place already) periodically undertook rigorous training, she wanted to waste money on trust exercises and warm fuzzies whilst simultaneously attempting (attempting because Althea had zero faith in the woman's ability to do so in any real or efficient way) to turn Wizarding Britain into a police state with a military-style government? The woman was, as usual, talking out of her--

"Thank you, Dash." She said, taking the drink from her husband as he returned to her side. She glanced toward the podium again but thankfully Roxanne had finished blathering on.

.... and what the hell was Sherman wearing? Who had he hired to manage his campaign? Did she need to step in? Merlin be.

Never mind. She was still supporting him at this point of the race. And he could still take Roxanne Carter.

You know, Again.

To say that he had happily volunteered to get the drinks was an understatement. But only because it gave him a chance to get away from the politicians who he really didn't care about. Under normal circumstances Dash would have instructed Althea to get her own drink. And his as well while she was at it. Because that's what she was there for obviously.

Ahem.

Passing her drink over he nodded.

"Are you still set on Clark?" Dash's eyes flickered to the much older man for a second. Unlike his wife he had no real reason to support the man. He didn't know him very well and he didn't seem qualified anyways.

Then again, if this whole thing was really about qualifications none of the candidates would probably be running.

He was watching the events unfolding and wasn't bothering to move when he heard someone at his ear. Smirking he glanced over at his coworker. "I don't need to jot anything down. It's my wife, I think I'll remember it fine." Brown eyes moving back towards Mariel for just a moment then back to Tori, "Plus technically I am still on my Paternity leave with Regina only being three weeks, but had to make sure someone good was covering this event." He was the ministry liaison so he couldn't risk just a random taking over.

"Other then my wife standing up for the ridiculous that was Miss Carter finding anything good?" He had over near the drinks, but that was beside the point. "Anything exciting going on at the office?" Which he knew the answer to that before she even answered, didn't seem like much ever went on there.

"I'm sure this won't be the last you'll hear of it either," she replied with a bit of a snicker. Marriage was for losers, and she did still mourn Jorge for getting married and popping out babies and all that. But whatevs, this was a nice break from trying to start a fire with the wet tinder that was these candidates.

Anything interesting... "Oh I'm working on something," she hinted lightly, waving her hand. "Of course nothing's happening at the office, other than Basil's apparel." She tilted her head toward their boss for a moment. "Maybe I'll pop out a story before you this time though, since you DO have that whole paternity thing going on." And may Merlin pity him for trying it.

"I'm counting on it." He liked his wife this way, it's what made them so compatible in his eyes. It helped that she was super hot, but her passion for her work always drew him in. "It might not be a bad idea to find some dirt on these candidates. That one seems like she'd have plenty of things to write about. I know she was in the office once after my bash against MLE, but she wasn't there to protect them. She ended up in Basil's office wanting to give more information to help the article." At least that's how he remembered it. Still annoyed he ended up with the Auror who didn't help him with a part two at all.

He couldn't help but raise a brow to her working on something, "If it has anything to do with this, you better not misquote my wife." It had happened before and it didn't end nicely with that reporter. He was all about the story, but that was his wife and he wouldn't have her looking dumb in the paper. His eyes moving to their boss. He didn't have much to say about the man. So he turned his attention back to the candidates around the room. "Victoria Culloden's speech at least was positive." That had to be something compared to the others. He wondered when more would speak.

Her next comment got a laugh. "Now Tori you should know better then to think you can do something before me. Stick to your fashion and ask pieces." His smirk growing as he teased. Though part was not him teasing, he always got the story. "I'm getting my work done just fine at home don't you worry." He wasn't going soft and the fact that she was possibly hinting at it brought an irritation in him.

Heh, if he said so. "I know," Tori mused, wondering why she and Jorge were always on the same page. Great minds, maybe? He did have a lot of practice digging up dirt about Ministry figures... as hard as she tried, she never could squeeze a story out before the trail ran cold.

At least the other Victoria had had a good speech, yes. Tori nodded in assent. "She also has a great name, might I add. Quite royal." The Victoria part, anyway. V for Victoryia!

Pssssh, Jorge. The young woman stuck her tongue out at her coworker at his dig. "Well don't you worry about me taking your job. I like my fashion and ask pieces, but if I find the dirt on these people, as boring as they are, I won't be sharing." Unless Basil made her.

Alicia grinned at Tori for a moment and then the question about her French Heritage. “I was born in France but I am English, I went to Hogwarts like most of these other Candidates and my own mother was English by birth” she admitted with a nod. “And really, if our constituents cannot see past where someone was born are we not failing history as this same fight this fight civil justice would have back stepped to perilous levels.” She smiled still though.

“I do believe that I understand my constituents and I believe that the people should have a minister who will speak with them and ask what they want and listen to their answers.” She took a breath, “I also feel that living wages are something all wizards should receive and I will strive for this in my campaign and if I get into the office I will try to do this as well as try to respond to issues that arise such as the tundra? That happened at Hogwarts recently in an attempt to make the schools safer for all.” Alicia smiled.

“If you don’t mind I should actually head to the podium soon, its been a pleasure Miss Bunbury” she smiled before turning and nervously walking to the podium.

DEEP BREATHS...

You got this. “Hello Everyone, I am Alicia Tanner one of the ten Candidates for Minister.” She smiled out to the crowd, pausing to not only gather her thoughts but also to breathe. “Some of you might remember me from my many years working as the Ministry Jurisprudent within Wizengamot, and others for my work in the Department of International Cooperation, and others might just know me from the deliveries of different treats that I still drop off at the ministry from time to time as a thank you for all of your wonderful work” yeah she was the Tea lady. Her nickname had been Ali-Tea when she first worked at the ministry. “Now, my platform for this campaign is simple. I believe that all employees in our magical community should at least receive a living wage. Now, this isn’t my only campaign platform there is more” she smiled again and glanced around the room at everyone. No, her hand was not shaking...okay maybe it was. But that was normal. “one thing I hold dear to my heart is the safety of our children, we were all students of one magical education system or another even if we trained at Beauxbaton, Salem, Durmstrang, or Hogwarts to name a few. Now we have all seen the Daily Prophet’s reportings on issues that have arisen at the schools now, such as the appearance of the Black ship in 2075?” Her smile wasn’t that happy right now. That one had hit home for her.

"A pirate's ghost, because of this possessed my own stepdaughter; still, more recently there was the ice storm that engulfed Hogwarts. As minister I will try to send delegates to deduce whether the situation is safe for not only our students but for the faculty and staff as well.” She smiled. "These are just some of the reasons why I want to help the ministry and help raise another generation, a generation that is and will be our future." There. She had done it! She smiled, nodded "thank you" she quietly spoke as she stepped off of the podium and returned to where Victoria was standing near her family and the other candidates that she was also interviewing.

[/QUOTE]

"My pleasure, Miss Bunbury," he said with a nod and a smile, his genuine. "Please know that the Daily Prophet is welcome to contact my campaign with any questions." Which would be meticulously considered and responded to with measured and thoughtful words. As she departed, Preston returned to jotting down notes on his own speech, having had such a strong reaction to Roxanne Carter's.

SPOILER!!: Mariel

Preston's focused edits to his notes were interrupted when he heard a woman call out. Looking up, his eyebrow quirked ever so slightly at the outburst. A Department Head shouting out from the crowd? He pursed his lips slightly and shook his head, though it was barely perceptible. He agreed with the woman's sentiment, truthfully, despite his lack of enthusiasm for the sport. And that carpet event had opened a dialogue for examining the ban. Slipping his speech back into his breast pocket, Preston made a mental note to look into the expectations of senior leadership at the Ministry. Such outbursts, however correct they may be, were a poor example to set for one's employees.

Nodding to Sherman, Preston stepped away from the tables to go see about making his own rounds of both candidates and employees.

Preston had wandered through the crowd, nodding at those engaged in conversation, but not yet jumping into any existing discussions. To do so would seem pushy and over eager, he thought. And so he found himself, hands behind his back, near the couches where a man sat alone, observing.

Coming to a stop near him, Preston offered a tight smile and a nod. "I am interested in your impressions of the evening thus far," he said, extending a hand. "Preston Kingsley."

He took note, out of the corner of his eye, that another candidate had taken the podium, and attempted to listen to her platform, while also keeping his focus on the gentleman seated before him.

Before she could reach the buffet, however, she was way laid by the Games and Sports head. Who seemed to have an overinflated view of just how important Quidditch was in the grand scheme of things. It was amusing, really. Except when you considered what else that money could've been used for. Like, for example, keeping the Specialties department afloat. Though, all this woman was getting for her efforts to defend herself was a small chuckle.

Once she got her laughter under control, Roxanne replied. "Oh, honey," she began in a voice one might use on a particularly dim child and taking the woman's chin firmly yet gently, "how misinformed and misguided you are. I can I assure you that I've done my research on the disaster of a Ministry that is run around here. And you seem to have an overinflated view of just how important Quidditch and your department in general is, Mrs.De La Garza." Yes, she'd done her research in that regards as well. "Something that it would do you better to realize sooner rather than later. Now if you'll excuse me, sweetheart, there's some business I must attend to elsewhere." Like at the buffet table. She released the younger woman's chin and took her leave then, walking over to said table, passing one Althea Scabior on her way.

But then if she'd had any particular impression of Roxanne Carter before running against her (and winning, for the record) during the elections for the Hogwarts Board of Governors, it hadn't at all been improved on over time.

You know, Again.

......who got a nod of acknowledgement and a smirk for the shocked look on her face as Roxanne passed by.

No one else seemed to be foolish brave enough to take her on, which was funny, because she could've sworn she'd seen one Emily Browne in the crowd. Oh well, she was taking that to mean that either the rest of them were too chicken or that they all secretly agreed with her. Good. That meant she'd be able to load up her plate and eat without interruption. Hopefully.

"... every single branch of the idiot tree." As in that Roxanne woman had hit them all. On the way down.

She took her drink thankfully and eyed the podium.

"For now my support is certainly with Sherman." Pause. "Though he could have done with a stylist." Perhaps she'd 'convince' him to make use of one. Pensacola Bott or one of her O-Star designers would manage nicely. There were others on the ballot whose names she had heard before, but she wasn't familiar with what their platforms may be so she was keeping an open mind and was willing to have it changed... so far though... not so much.

"Sherman impressed me during the campaign for the board. Many of his opinions aligned with my own," Or at least didn't directly conflict with them, "And he seemed to be running for the right reasons, rather than out of sheer ego. He's genuine and he has his priorities in order, though he is a tad disorganized, I'm sure Kettleburn's existing staff have that aspect of governing the Ministry well on lock." At least she would hope so. The outgoing minister had always appeared to know what he was about.

Now why on earth would someone harp on about a ten-year old occurrence? That had even been prior to Althea's stint as Charms Professor at Hogwarts. Why were they all so hell-bent on placing Hogwarts issues at the center of their campaigns thusfar? This woman was in the wrong election, clearly, and there wasn't another due for the Board for some time. She did wonder what Headmistress Truebridge would make of all this... likely a few ruffled feathers. As for the living wage thing, Merlin, if people didn't live above their means then there wouldn't be a problem, would there? She happened to know intimately that every single wage set at the ministry was more than enough to live on. Poverty in the Wizarding World was nothing like that of Muggle Britain. Any witch or wizard could make a living wage simply by applying at the Ministry, even if they had to work their way up from the mailroom or as a janitor or gopher. It was doable.

Althea mentally dismissed this candidate too. Deliveries of treats? Right. Maybe this one should be a kindergarten teacher, and encourage everyone to hold hands and join in on singalongs and try to make the world a better place with sharing and pats on the back just for trying.

Pat on the back for you, Alicia Tanner, just for showing up.

Nope.

Next.

...... had anyone heard and seen that? Roxanne up to her old tricks again? Althea wasn't surprised by it but she was disgusted. If the Games and Sports Head wished to press charges, well Althea was a witness right here.

On the bright side Roxanne wasn't doing herself any favours, and Althea was already utterly sure that she wouldn't get a look in.

Again.

She nodded back in silence and then her gaze simply passed the woman by in dismissal. Lets see if anyone actually worth their salt would take the podium next.

Honestly.

He appreciated her kindness, really. But no. He did not trust any food that he had not prepared himself. The last time he HAD gone to a restaurant he had gotten food poisoning and, well, it only confirmed that there would be no dining out for him.

"Brought some essentials with me." Like his cheese sandwich. Which he removed from his pants pocket now, unwrapped, and took a bite from it and snapped his fingers at his quill to keep up...only to find that his notebook and quill were distracted by another candidate standing up to give a speech...of sorts.

His expression remained as neutral as possible through things, eyeing his quill and clicking his tongue at it when it scribbled down some of his more private opinions on their surroundings.

He hadn't meant to walk away from the woman - he had rather been hoping to strike up a debate of sorts with all the mothers running for Minister - but things were just not evolving that way for one reason or another.

SPOILER!!: Basil, Simon, Amy, Cosgrach, Mariel

SPOILER!!: Mariel and Roxanne

Well...SOMEONE ought to eat those fairy eggs.

He gave them one last forlorn look before it was all back to business and waiting for Mrs. Culloden to expand on her platform some. Just a little exclusive for the Prophet since she had only given the smallest of hints just to give those present a taste. But before she could really get going they were interrupted by....the husband. Oh joy.

Basil briefly looked away, pretending he was checking on his quill and the writing on the parchment. Yeah, bitter man over here. Don't mind him. "Not to worry, Mr. Culloden. We at the Prophet still remember you," he half chuckled half grumbled as he pointed at something for his quill to scratched out. Merlin why had he not stuffed more newspaper in his shoes for this evening? Urgh. His ego was pulverized over here. But at least the Mrs. was talking again, which meant that the quill was moving eagerly over the notebook while the Editor-in-Chief nodded along with a neutral expression.

"Thank you, Mrs. Culloden now ----"

And then the kneazle hit the fan.

And since Jorge and Victoria where here to cover that rubbish it would be his cue to leave - even if he was absolutely salivating over the fact that a candidate had just crossed a very serious line and aggressively handled a Department Head.

"----if you will excuse me," he said with a polite nod of the head as he slowly slipped away.

If either Victoria or Jorge needed him...he would be buzzing around somewhere.

Mostly likely checking some facts and numbers that candidates were throwing out seemingly willy-nilly.

It didn't escape his notice that both Emily and Aron had decided on chocolate for the evening while he put himself through the torture of socialization. He supposed it hardly counted when he was allowed the small joy of sitting along but from the corner of his eyes he could see someone approaching.

Oh Merlin.

Gavin would have been fine enough pretending to not have noticed the man in the hopes he walked right by him but fate was never that kind and Gavin found himself pulled into a conversation. Interested in his impressions huh? He didn't think he'd be after he was done. "I'm not impressed." He began simply, glancing once more to the small stage area where yet another had just finished an introduction. "It's lovely they're all so passionate about Hogwarts but perhaps a future election for Board of Governors would be a better canvas to air their concerns." The bloody hell did the British Ministry have to do with Salem anyway? The last of them had him scowling as she left the stage. "They're intrusive and for lack of a better word, meddlesome." Let's all send our forces down to encroach on the Jurisdiction of the Headmistress. Nothing wrong with that. Just leave the Ministry to fix itself and the laws to amend themselves while we fuss about children that come home every year.

It was rude to question someone's competency when you had your own walls to mend, even rude to insinuate that the Department Heads were engaged in frivolous spending. "Gavin Isaacs." He eyed the hand offered to him debating the consequences of rejecting it. Why did everyone have to touch in order for communication to be effective????? With an internal sigh he reached forward to give the man a brief shake before retracting his hand. There. Contact made. No more.

Gavin Isaacs. Becca knew that name. Senior Undersecretary. Mhmm. The redhead made a beeline for the man and smiled politely at him as she put a hand on Preston Kingsley's upper arm in a friendly gesture. "You know, you look like someone I know." She engaged the other candidate in conversation. "Mr. Isaacs, I'm Becca Yenorin." She didn't offer the man a hand after seeing his body language when Kingsley had done that. Instead, she offered a warm smile and offered him a drink. "Just butterbeer, I promise."

Did the woman just touch his wife. He locked his jaw and watched. He knew wife could handle herself well, so he stayed put and looked as calm as ever minus the jaw. Glancing back towards his coworker "If you need help finding the best dirt on that one I'd gladly help." That would be a nice way to persuade the readers to not vote for Miss Roxanne Carter. She didn't deserve the win at all the way she was acting this evening.

He rolled his eyes a bit at the name, "She's Mariel's close friend, so I know a bit more about her compared to the other candidates." He'd probably help with a story but wouldn't actually write it. He didn't need in the doghouse at home because he used personal knowledge against his wife's friend.

"You don't have to share, just get the best dirt you can. Everyone has skeletons in their closets. Some just hide them better than others." His smirk back on his face as he chuckled. "Those fashion and ask pieces won't get you far in journalism and I may not be here forever, someone will have to take my place as the best at finding the secrets." If anyone could do almost as good as him it would be Tori she had proven that a few times they had worked together.

After the little confrontation was done Victoria looked back to Mr. Skeeter just in time for him to be excusing himself. "Well it was a pleasure to meet you and I am sure we will be speaking again." It was her business with Quidditch as well as being a candidate.

Listening to the other two that had gone she couldn't help but see a patter of the school. She hoped people wouldn't confuse hers with theirs. She had brought up the school, but not for safety reasons. Yes she had her thoughts about that, but she wanted better communication not interference, her speech talked about a program for the students and their potential job possibilities for the ministry. A very different topic not safety. some of their thoughts were rather different if Victoria could say so. Maybe she was still in shock over the attack against the Department Heads which she adored and thought were doing a great job, or if it was the boot camp things.

Turning back to her husband and the possible food at hand, she noticed a certain unsocial person standing awkwardly speaking to a few people. Giving him a smile that said if you need help nod, she waved and looked back to the food. Gavin was one of those people she considered a close friend. He had helped her many times and speaking of helping she lifted her eyes back to him and then to Cossy to show he was back to normal. Thankfully whatever it was had went away.

Cosgrach nodded at MLE man, Simon. "The pleasure is mine." He would have chatted lightly, but Victoria was busy making it to the papers, so he politely turned his attention to the reporter and his wife.

He chuckled back at the newspaper man. Of course they remembered him. "Well, you could call it a success: I have a wife now." They didn't meet through them, but they made him popular. Hehe.

Then, his attention was back at his wife, and his chest filled with even more pride. He was this woman's husband, who had the most brilliant ideas ever. He smiled sweetly and kissed her cheek back briefly. Yes, her point of view for the school was quite different than the rest: she wanted a better communication, not interference. He hoped the reporter would note that difference.

And soon, the man was gone. "Have a nice day, sir," he called as a goodbye at him before he was gone, and grinned at Victoria. "Of course. My woman is going to be the Ministry, I'd rather die than miss it."

Oh, look, her BFF was there too. "Hello Mariel," he cordially greeted her back, "My place is next to my wife's." Especially while she was going through such a difficult phase. He had to support her. The school could survive without him for a while.

"I hope the baby is well?" He still hadn't had time to visit them, give his birth present and wish a good life. He wanted to apologise for that, but another candidate was on podium...

...criticising some 10 year old event.

Seriously. Wasn't she undermining The Headmistress that Hogwarts thankfully had? Someone should have told her she was running for the minister, not headmistress. But Cosgrach wasn't complaining at all - this meant Victoria had just eliminated another opponent.

He could only hope the rest of the candidates were like this.

Default Well I don't know. Anyone.
A Poop * k8 *

EMBER had arrived. Well. She had really been here for WHILE buuuuuut you know--she had hit up those FOUNTAINS OF GOODNESS over there and she just...ugh. She had tried her best not to get chocolate on everything.

She kind of succeeded.

All of the politics going on was weird. And somewhat dull. Ember thought that politics were kind of DUMB. Whoever was minister of magic would, of course, be good for the job since ALL of the candidates seemed qualified. Ember didn't even know who was running. Were a lot of people running? She didn't know. She would have to check out the buffet, though.

MERLIN THERE WASN'T ANY MUSIC. Ember wouldn't be voting for ANY of these people who didn't sing. or dance. LIKE COME ON. SHOW SOME ENTERTAINMENT. She scooted her way over to the buffet and flipped her blueish hair over her shoulder. SO. MUCH. FOOD. She hadn't had ANY coffee before THIS event-so luckily Ember wasn't super hyper. But she DID want to dance. She always wanted to dance. And meditate. Or both at the SAAAAME time. Hmmph. Filling her plate with various food items, she tap-danced her way over to the seating area to listen to these 'political' folk rant and rant.

She couldn't even pretend she believed in government as an institution anyways. At least not one with one leader. But that was what having an entire ministry was for, right? So that one dude didn't go power hungry? Hmmph. Ember still was quiiiiiite unsure of it, but at least now they could vote for someone. That was a step up.

Before she thought TOO much about politics, though, she plopped down into an empty seat and dug in. SO. MANY. PEOPLE. She would of course clap for anyone who chose to talk. They all deserved SOOOO many hugs for having the courage to get up there, talk, and RUN in general.

Speaking of running, she was really proud of herself for not tripping in these heels. Sometimes she got so excited she pulled a baby!bambi and would stumble all over the place...

Oops.

Preston appreciated the man's candor, though he questioned the prudence of saying as much as he had. Any of them could end up Minister and such comments could certainly have ill-effects on a career. "I.. see," he said, deliberately, nodding. He would certainly not speak ill of the candidates - no matter how much he agreed - in such a public forum. The Prophet would certainly capitalize on such a faux pas. In fact, he expected it of them. "I do hope that you will find what I have to say more congruent with your expectations." It certainly wasn't a detailed plan, but as Preston considered his speech, it struck him that it was the laying of a foundation to be built upon throughout the campaign.

Clasping his hands behind his back, he saw another of the candidates approach.

She engaged the other candidate in conversation. "Mr. Isaacs, I'm Becca Yenorin." She didn't offer the man a hand after seeing his body language when Kingsley had done that. Instead, she offered a warm smile and offered him a drink. "Just butterbeer, I promise."
Gavin was beginning to get the idea that his luck wouldn't be changing any time soon. The one man caused someone else to approach, just when he thought he'd been doing an excellent job of staying unnoticed in this sea of people. "It's a pleasure, Mrs. Yenorin." He replied, ever the gentleman even in the face of the most horrifying situations. "Gidyun's wife, correct?" He'd never had a proper conversation with the man but he wasn't completely out of the loop, maybe except for the fact he didn't know she would be running. "No thanks." He replied with the most apologetic of smiles. For starters he didn't trust things offered to him in public places with strange people (weren't they all strange?) and second, he might need something a little stronger if this continued.

He caught the smile Vic had sent, very much aware of how he must have looked from his seat here on the couch but he was a little preoccupied watching her husband now that she'd pointed him out. He was the one who'd gone haywire correct? The one who taught at Hogwarts and possibly should still have been there in case it was something more serious and lingering?

Interesting.

"I.. see," he said, deliberately, nodding.

"I do hope so as well." Gavin said with a firm nod. He meant every word of what he'd said, not particularly bothered by the prospect of the prophet having a field day. On the contrary, if some of them could see their mistakes in print, perhaps they'd revise their approach and he wouldn't be so worried about the future of the Ministry. At this point, his confidence lied in the speeches he had not yet heard. A terrible look on life but fitting.

"I don't believe I've heard your take." He said after a moment of silent crowd surveillance. He'd like to hear his opinions if only to confirm their was a functional brain somewhere in his head.

Wouldn't that just make his day?
