"It's a pleasure to meet you again," Sherman replied cheerfully, grinning back to his apparent opponent. "And I wish you luck as well. Looking forward to hearing you speak!"

If she planned to head up to the podium, that was, but why wouldn't she?

"Sooooooo, Mr. Clark," she interjected even as her quill made a slight scratching sound with all its writing, "are you saying that you already think of yourself as the Minister? Is this because you have been working for the Ministry longer than some candidates have been alive, and couldn't see anyone else doing the job? Do tell!"
Merlin. Reporters. He really needed to watch his tongue around those.

"Of course not! What I meant was that if we listen well to the ideas that are being shared and bounced about, as any good minister would, they can be used to help and improve our already great Ministry. No matter who is elected, they can take action on issues they hadn't even thought of thanks to their opponents. We should all have a common goal, which is to work toward a better future for the wizarding world of Great Britain." Not to become so obsessed with the election that they couldn't see the bigger picture.

Ooh, and was that Althea? Sherman waaaaved. Why wasn't SHE running, again?

While he mingled with the crowd, the elderly man had kept one ear for the podium's speaker at all times. Alicia and Roxanne's campaign promises hadn't gone unheard on this end, as well as the Game and Sports Head's words with the latter. It seemed there was much conflict and disapproval around the Leaky, and it was making Sherman increasingly nervous.

But he had to take his turn some time, and the now was as good as any. Tentatively, he wheeled around legs and over to the podium. He stopped it beside the podium and drew his cane from his wheelchair so he could stand and be seen. No walking was occurring; he would be fine. Sherman waited for most of the pub's attention, and finally, he began to speak.

"Good evening everyone! My name is Sherman Clark, and I am one of your candidates for Minister of Magic." He tried to produce a charming smile, which came out looking a bit goofy thanks to his eccentric attire. "I feel that I am qualified to be your Minister for a multitude of reasons: I possess 47 years of experience across three different departments in the Ministry, allowing me to understand the employees, support them, and make decisions for their benefit; I believe in making sacrifices for the greater good, and as the greater good will always be the people, I am willing to sacrifice everything for them- you; I have, and always will have, the wizarding world's best interests at heart."

See, Ms. Bunbury? His numbers weren't ALL.

Deep breath. Whew. "As I am a member of the Hogwarts Board of Governors, it is known I am a strong advocate of education, and I want the best for students. I think utilizing fresh, young minds from Hogwarts is a great idea. However, I would like to focus on longevity in the Ministry more. While I want to bring in youthful employees who have plenty to offer, it is of just as much importance that we sustain the employment of our already skilled workers. Cross-departmental switches are welcomed, as long as Britain's best will stay and help us work toward a better future."

"Other than recruiting graduates for occupations, it is my opinion that the Ministry should not be working more closely than it already is with Hogwarts, instead allowing the Headmistress and the Board to manage it themselves. There are people whose prime focus is already the school; ours, of course, should be the Ministry. We should be working on Ministry services and making them more available so that the public- including Hogwarts- can take advantage of them when needed." There were 12 governors, 14 staff members, a headmistress, student leaders, and parents to squabble over Hogwarts. Need they really add the Ministry to that? The communication between the two was what mattered, as it had in the recent Chort situation. Once again, the service had saved the day.

"The Ministry is like- if you don't mind my use of a Muggle expression- a machine. The people are the gears and cogs that make the machine work beautifully, and the Minister keeps the machine running smoothly and efficiently. There shouldn't be any blockage, faulty bits, or lags. Nothing should get in the way, and if I am elected, it will be my sole duty to make sure that our machine is successful." A little lame, but it got the point across, didn't it?

He beamed at the audience. "Sustenance. Service. Success. Sherman Clark." That was HIM.

Letting that slogan sink in for a moment, he wrapped up the little speech. "Thank you for your time." NOW could he have some of those hors d'oeuvres?

Default applause for Sherman, reply for Gavin, and PODIUM POST
Granddaddy Ravenclaw | | Jermione Granger

Preston turned to give his full attention to Sherman Clark and found himself nodding. It seemed that there were some things that they two men certainly agreed on. He would have to find the older gentleman later and have a proper conversation. Turning back to Gavin, he spoke. "I believe now is as good a time as any to put forward my platform. If you'll excuse me," he nodded to both Gavin and the other candidate.

---------

Preston approached the podium, extracting the parchment for his remarks from his pocket and placing it down in front of him. Next came his simple, black glasses. His posture was straight, his voice steady, his face calm.

“Good evening,” he began. “For those of you who do not yet know me, I am Preston Kingsley. I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you tonight, both from this podium and then throughout the evening. Before I begin, please allow me to commend the organizers of this event for a wonderful gathering. The opportunity for those in public service to hear from their constituents is a vital part of any healthy system of government.”

Preston rested both hands on the edges of the podium, speaking clearly and directly, attempting to make eye contact with as many people looking his way as possible. “Some have wondered at my decision to run, given what appears to be a lack of experience within the Ministry of Magic, save for a few years when I was a younger man.” Preston paused, eyes surveying the crowd. “But what is often not known beyond my many years, first as a private educator and then as a professor at Hogwarts, is that I also have deep experience consulting on issues of staffing, education, legislative affairs, and policy creation, some here and much abroad. In many places, consultants are an unseen force, helping to shape the breakthroughs credited to others. And that is how I preferred my service to be until this point. It is my firm belief that what we do at the ministry is a act of service to our larger communities and I wish to take a moment to thank Minister Kettleburn for his tireless service and wish him well on his new endeavours.”

Preston paused, to allow those gathered to show their appreciation. “I seek the position of Minister not in service to my own ego, but in service to Wizarding Britain, as I believe that I can provide steady, disciplined, and future-focused leadership. My priorities are simple: First, promote a culture of two-way communication by which the work of the ministry is made more transparent and the needs and concerns of our community more easily find their way to those in leadership. Second, undertake an examination of statutes currently on the books to see which continue to serve us well and which are remnants of an earlier time. I applaud the organizers of the carpet symposium for opening the conversation about the merits of our carpet ban. Regardless of your personal position, such discussion and debate should always be welcome. It is my hope that more such conversations will be had. And third, encourage and incentivize forward-thinking initiatives in all departments through careful consideration of staffing needs, resources, and high standards for all employees.”

“And finally..” Preston reached up to remove his glasses, offering a rare chuckle and sparing a look at Gavin Isaacs as he folded up his prepared notes. “many of the candidates have spoken about Hogwarts this evening. As someone who has worked at that institution, I suspect a lack of comment at this juncture would be perceived in a variety of ways, some flattering and some not. I want to be clear: a Kingsley administration would take quite seriously the quality of wizarding education, not just at Hogwarts, but in homeschool settings and within the practice of some families to send their children abroad.” He scanned the room, allowing his gaze to rest on the reporters. “Rest assured, this is not an intention to meddle in the affairs of Hogwarts or attempt to supersede the Board of Governors who are charged with managing their own affairs. Rather, I propose the ministry as a collaborative partner and conversation convener to examine ways to enhance our children’s education and, in turn, bolster our entire community’s well-being now and into the future.”

Preston looked out over the gathered crowd once more. “Thank you. I look forward to sharing more with you as the campaign progresses.” With a nod and a smile, Preston made he way back into the seating area.

As Ronnie ate her plateful of food at her table, she glanced up as a few more candidates gave their speeches, listening intently. Everyone had such good speeches to give, and she wished they all could be Minister...but that wouldn't quite work, would it? She was excited either way for whoever got the position though, because so far she liked every single one of them. After Preston Kingsley finished giving his speech, she smiled and applauded.

He chuckled back at the newspaper man. Of course they remembered him. "Well, you could call it a success: I have a wife now." They didn't meet through them, but they made him popular. Hehe.

Then, his attention was back at his wife, and his chest filled with even more pride. He was this woman's husband, who had the most brilliant ideas ever. He smiled sweetly and kissed her cheek back briefly. Yes, her point of view for the school was quite different than the rest: she wanted a better communication, not interference. He hoped the reporter would note that difference.

And soon, the man was gone. "Have a nice day, sir," he called as a goodbye at him before he was gone, and grinned at Victoria. "Of course. My woman is going to be the Ministry, I'd rather die than miss it."

Oh, look, her BFF was there too. "Hello Mariel," he cordially greeted her back, "My place is next to my wife's." Especially while she was going through such a difficult phase. He had to support her. The school could survive without him for a while.

"I hope the baby is well?" He still hadn't had time to visit them, give his birth present and wish a good life. He wanted to apologise for that, but another candidate was on podium...

...criticising some 10 year old event.

Seriously. Wasn't she undermining The Headmistress that Hogwarts thankfully had? Someone should have told her she was running for the minister, not headmistress. But Cosgrach wasn't complaining at all - this meant Victoria had just eliminated another opponent.

He could only hope the rest of the candidates were like this.

She hadn't blushed all evening, but her husband soon had her cheeks warm. "Oh Cossy, stop you don't know that yet, but I am glad you are here. You don't know how much that means to me." She smiled lovingly towards him. He was so supportive of this and she couldn't be more in love then that very moment.

Her eyes turned to yet another candidate a very much older one. Listening to what he had to say, she couldn't help, but be impressed. Though if he was on the Board how was he running? If he won would he be giving up his Board seat? It seemed a conflict of interest to keep both. Once he was finished she saw another go up. They all seemed to be getting braver no that she had broke the ice. It wasn't easy being first. His was another impressive one. Though she couldn't help, but feel a bit jaded her speech could have been better if she could have stood back and listened to others and talked to the audience a bit more too, but she was the brave one that went first and that should show she didn't have a lack of confidence or she wasn't afraid to stand for what she believed.

Looking back to her husband she gave a little bit of a worried look, "Do you really think my speech was good? Maybe I should have said more. " She certainly thought her's was better then some, but maybe not good enough. No she wasn't going to second guess herself. She knew why she was running and she wasn't going to let things like speeches get in her way of that. "Are you hungry, the food looks really good." Though she wasn't feeling like eating anymore.

SPOILER!!: Gavin

He replied, ever the gentleman even in the face of the most horrifying situations. "Gidyun's wife, correct?" He'd never had a proper conversation with the man but he wasn't completely out of the loop, maybe except for the fact he didn't know she would be running. "No thanks." He replied with the most apologetic of smiles. For starters he didn't trust things offered to him in public places with strange people (weren't they all strange?) and second, he might need something a little stronger if this continued.

He caught the smile Vic had sent, very much aware of how he must have looked from his seat here on the couch but he was a little preoccupied watching her husband now that she'd pointed him out. He was the one who'd gone haywire correct? The one who taught at Hogwarts and possibly should still have been there in case it was something more serious and lingering?

Interesting.

"I do hope so as well." Gavin said with a firm nod. He meant every word of what he'd said, not particularly bothered by the prospect of the prophet having a field day. On the contrary, if some of them could see their mistakes in print, perhaps they'd revise their approach and he wouldn't be so worried about the future of the Ministry. At this point, his confidence lied in the speeches he had not yet heard. A terrible look on life but fitting.

"I don't believe I've heard your take." He said after a moment of silent crowd surveillance. He'd like to hear his opinions if only to confirm their was a functional brain somewhere in his head.

Wouldn't that just make his day?

She certainly saw his looks and chuckled to herself. Excusing herself for a moment, Victoria walked over towards him. "Gavin, so glad to see you here and mingling. Good for you." She was clearly joking. She felt he was a little more social then he tried to make known. "I see you were noticing Cossy. He came home a few days ago and was back to normal. He doesn't really know what caused it. It worries me that he doesn't." She had every right to be worried and want part of her reason to run about that school, but that certainly was not a main focus. Bart with that stroke, the winter thing, and now this. She had to have aged years just from the ordeals. "Having a good night?" She was curious on his thoughts, but wouldn't ask. She wasn't rude, she was his friend after all and she cared that he was having a good time.

SPOILER!!: Roxanne + Jorge and Tori
Quote:
Before she could reach the buffet, however, she was way laid by the Games and Sports head. Who seemed to have an overinflated view of just how important Quidditch was in the grand scheme of things. It was amusing, really. Except when you considered what else that money could've been used for. Like, for example, keeping the Specialties department afloat. Though, all this woman was getting for her efforts to defend herself was a small chuckle.

Once she got her laughter under control, Roxanne replied. "Oh, honey," she began in a voice one might use on a particularly dim child and taking the woman's chin firmly yet gently, "how misinformed and misguided you are. I can I assure you that I've done my research on the disaster of a Ministry that is run around here. And you seem to have an overinflated view of just how important Quidditch and your department in general is, Mrs.De La Garza." Yes, she'd done her research in that regards as well. "Something that it would do you better to realize sooner rather than later. Now if you'll excuse me, sweetheart, there's some business I must attend to elsewhere." Like at the buffet table. She released the younger woman's chin and took her leave then, walking over to said table, passing one Althea Scabior on her way.
Derisive laughter? Really? That was how a ministerial candidate felt it appropriate to respond to a Ministry Department Head's rebuttal of her allegations? It would seem Roxanne Carter had a bit to learn about how to handle herself if she wanted people to actually elect her to the office..

No, really.. a LOT to learn apparently. Mariel gave the woman a scandalized look then narrowed her eyes as Roxanne grasped a hold of her chin. "Take your hands off of me," she demanded, pulling her face back out of the woman's grasp. Who did that? She paid literally no attention to the rubbish spewing from the woman's mouth at this point. Ms. Carter was obviously clueless to the needs of the Ministry and the community, she was wasting no more time with her. Pretty much the only thing that kept Mariel from snapping in response to the woman's inappropriate behavior was the satisfaction in knowing that Ms. Carter's campaign was pretty much doomed at this point, but she only had herself to blame. Even if Mariel would take some credit for that.

Oh, was she done now? It would figure that the woman would think that she could have the last word and walk away without giving her the chance to respond. But as it happened, Mariel spotted her husband in the direction that Roxanne was headed so she took the opportunity to offer her parting thoughts as she also walked that way. "If nothing else at least the voters know what kind of reaction to expect from their potential Minister when she's faced with some criticism," she said sweetly, with only a hint of smugness. "But I doubt anyone else will appreciate such a patronizing, dismissive attitude.. or manhandling a person who has concerns with her issues." Certainly crossing a line in her book. "And I'll be sure to ask my husband write a glowing review of tonight's events," she added just before she steered clear of the woman altogether. That was what all the candidates wanted, right? Good press?

Ugh. Mariel was thoroughly annoyed, but she had a reason for being at this event and it was not to get riled up, at least not in the sense that it happened. Approaching Jorge and his coworker, she gave them both a knowing smile, certain they had both witnessed events. Not that she wanted that to have happened, but she really felt that she had no choice but to defend her hardworking department. "Hello, Tori," she greeted the redhead before slipping an arm around Jorge's waist and look up at him. "I think I should go home soon."

SPOILER!!: Victoria, Cossy, Simon
Quote:
Turning back to her husband she beamed, “I can’t believe you made it. This means so much to me that you did.” She knew he was busy, but the fact that he took the time to come and be with her and support her was just amazing. She felt so lucky and a bit more confident with him by her side. A voice made her eyes snap towards two people. Ms. Carter who had just spoken and her best friend and Mariel seemed hot. Which she had every right to be and Victoria was glad she was speaking up. Though she felt like she couldn’t help back her friend at the moment, not that Mariel needed it. She was doing well on her own. Seeing her come over she gave her a smile. “Thank you.” it was great to have the support of her best friend and a great department head. “You alright?” She’d had blushed by Mariel’s comments about her ideas, but she did feel they were good and her confidence had risen in recent years to know she could do this.
Quote:

Quote:
Simon soon noticed another woman join the support of the Quidditch head. This one he did in fact know, however their past was hopefully behind them. Mariel had never really been the one he had had a problem with anyway. So he was safe as long as marriage had calmed down Jorge's jealousy. "Yes...she does," the auror agreed truthfully. Certainly better than his former colleague. Jury was still out on her in comparison to Alicia though so he was keeping his final opinion open-minded.
"Oh, I'm fine," Mariel smiled at Victoria at the question. She was certain that she caught the confrontation, but had she heard what the woman said.. and did? She felt it necessary that her words be heard by the woman - as she would bring her concerns to the Minister, though probably more polite unless there were unfounded allegations there as well. But she really wanted to put that out of her mind for now. She was here for Victoria's support.

And she was very pleased that the woman's husband was also there for support, knowing that it could have been difficult for him to get away from the school. "Regina's doing wonderfully," she said, smiling brighter. "Thank you for asking.. it was a bit difficult to leave her though." It was the first time she was gone for any length of time from her newborn baby and she was starting to feel an urge to get back to her.

Feeling almost as if she was intruding on husband and wife time as the couple discussed getting something to eat, green eyes fell on Simon Bennett as he stood nearby. "Are you a Victoria Culloden supporter or still leaving your options open?" she asked him curiously. He did agree with her earlier sentiments so perhaps he leaned that way, though there were others speaking as well which she vaguely tried to listen to before she would take her leave.

SPOILER!!: Victoria
[QUOTE=Bazinga;11685407]
SPOILER!!: Basil, Simon, Amy, Cosgrach, Mariel

Eggs? Victoria looked at them but truly wasn’t sure that was something she would want. “I’ll keep that in mind.” She turned her body more towards him as he said her name and stuck out her hand, “You are the editor at the paper, Mr. Skeeter? Being the Division manager of the quidditch department I get to know many names in media.” She wasn’t a stalker or anything. He was asking her about her speech, but of course. “I feel the need to have stronger ties not a heavy hand. The headmistress and the Board of Governors do a good job at the school. It is still the best school, I just feel we as a ministry could help them as much as they could help us. I think the ties are fairly good, but with things that have gone on there I feel if we had a stronger line of communication maybe we could get to the bottom of why it is constantly having something wrong.” She knew this was a very sensitive topic, but it was one of her big reasons for wanting some changes. “My son is a fourth year there and my husband is..”

That’s when she heard Cossy's voice and turned giving him a huge smile. “You made it.” She hadn’t been sure, but the fact that he was there meant so much to her. She put an arm around him and kissed his cheek. Turning back to Mr. Skeeter, “as I was saying and my husband is a professor there so I feel it important to make sure our relationship with the school, headmistress, and the board is very open. The work study program I was speaking of is something I’ve been thinking about for a year or so now. I’ve notice a huge population of employees graduating Hogwarts and coming into the ministry. Many departments have entry level positions and training of their own, but wouldn’t it be nice to have some work study programs for these seventh years that know they want to work for our ministry to get a head start? It would be a great way to show them what working at the ministry is really like and get them very valuable work experience that many do not have.” She felt it was a great opportunity and experience for the younger generation.

Looking back to Simon she smiled, “I’m glad that it didn’t seem like I was too nervous. I’ve gotten use to public speaking with my position, but this is the first time to fully state some of my ideas to the community.” She knew some of the candidates would never admit something like that, but if there was one thing Victoria was it was honest. She wouldn’t lie or hide her true feelings. She was curious to his comment about MLE, “Is something wrong?” She’d hope not, all the MLE people seemed so nice and Emily did such a great job.

Hearing another person come to the podium she stopped to listen and her eyes widened right from the get go. Why would anyone talk about another area joking about them if she wanted to be elected? Then her eyes narrowed as she called out her event. She was the division manager and that event was her baby. They were the head of the league, did she not know that? Honestly how was she running if she didn’t even know how the departments worked? Plus she had thoughts about flying carpets and thought that event had a great importance in the future of them. Training sessions? Obviously this woman had no children and no thoughts on family first. She loved her job, but felt the ministry supported their employees having families and this woman was stating she’d take that away.

Another voice (Amy) caught her attention from that speech and she put her best smile back on, reaching out her hand. “Hello, Victoria Maroon. It’s a pleasure to meet you Miss Harrington.” This was a little exciting having someone come up to her. She loved meeting new people and the face that she liked her speech was just wonderful. “Well thank you. What department do you work in if you don’t mind me asking?” She was needing to get to know more people in departments and have connections.

As she walked that way, the wine glass her husband had gotten her still in her hand, the brunette heard another magnified voice. Roxanne Carter, wasn't it? Green eyes snapped to the former British Ministry worker as she stopped to listen a moment. Of course, Mariel would likely be throwing her vote a certain way, but she'd certainly be fair and hear everyone out.

Or perhaps that wasn't a good idea.

The more Roxanne spoke, the more annoyed Mariel felt. Did she really have the nerve to so openly speak on things that she clearly knew nothing about? Normally she would have just rolled her eyes and moved on, but when she brought her department into it, no way was she going to keep silent. And Ministry boot camps? She wasn't sure what Roxanne's department was like when she was running it, but she had no room to speak on Games and Sports, not when she had the remarkable team that she did. The woman had clearly lost it.

Once the woman had finished speaking, Mariel took a deep breath and began counting backwards in her head to calm herself down, her hand tight around the stem of her wine glass. 100.. 99.. 98.. 97.. 96.. The hell with it, she had something to say and it wasn't going to wait. "I beg your pardon, Ms. Carter," she began tersely as she approached the candidate. "Mariel De La Garza, Department Head of Magical Games and Sports," she added as a way to identify herself so the woman would know exactly where she was coming from. "I'm not sure where you get off publicly calling out my department as potential money wasters, especially when you have no idea what you are talking about. My entire department worked their collective behinds off to secure donations and sponsorships to help fund that Quidditch Meet and Greet, an event that was not only beneficial to the community but to the Ministry as well. Not that I need to answer to you, but I can assure you or anyone else that would ask that I can justify every last knut on the spot." She was sure that Ms. Carter had no idea of what their budget was, how much they spent, how much they received in donations, or how much was profited. And trying to point out wrong-doing when there was none was no way to win votes, certainly not from the people who were accused of it when they were simply working hard to do their jobs and then some.

"I suggest you have your facts straight before you make another public outcry denouncing the efforts of hardworking people." Yes, Mariel was livid over the woman's accusatory words and she breathed deeply to calm herself, not yet moving from the spot she was in.

So he finished up as quickly as he could and made his way towards the food giving Victoria a nod as his eyes moved just in time to see Mariel speaking to the candidate, Miss Carter. He crossed his arms and just watched with a smirk on his face. That was his wife and he just loved how she stood up for herself and her department. He couldn't be prouder.

Turning his eyes he noticed Basil and Tori giving them both nods he kept an eye on his wife to make sure she was alright as well as tried to decide where the actual minister was. He wouldn't mind gathering his thoughts on a few things.

Simon was being a quiet observer and simply watching and listening to what was going on around him. The better to gather what imformation might be dropped. "No, nothing is wrong," he assured her with a small smile of his own. "Just one has to be on their toes." What was that muggle phrase...crime doesn't sleep. And something like Always Be Prepared was another.

"And I think a work study program would do good," the auror decided to comment on. "Kinda like the YATI program I went through but done earlier. Might help graduating students with the NEWTs they'd need." Especially if one was still unclear of what they wanted in their later years at Hogwarts.

SPOILER!!: Alicia

“I do believe that I understand my constituents and I believe that the people should have a minister who will speak with them and ask what they want and listen to their answers.” She took a breath, “I also feel that living wages are something all wizards should receive and I will strive for this in my campaign and if I get into the office I will try to do this as well as try to respond to issues that arise such as the tundra? That happened at Hogwarts recently in an attempt to make the schools safer for all.” Alicia smiled.

“If you don’t mind I should actually head to the podium soon, its been a pleasure Miss Bunbury” she smiled before turning and nervously walking to the podium.

DEEP BREATHS...

You got this. “Hello Everyone, I am Alicia Tanner one of the ten Candidates for Minister.” She smiled out to the crowd, pausing to not only gather her thoughts but also to breathe. “Some of you might remember me from my many years working as the Ministry Jurisprudent within Wizengamot, and others for my work in the Department of International Cooperation, and others might just know me from the deliveries of different treats that I still drop off at the ministry from time to time as a thank you for all of your wonderful work” yeah she was the Tea lady. Her nickname had been Ali-Tea when she first worked at the ministry. “Now, my platform for this campaign is simple. I believe that all employees in our magical community should at least receive a living wage. Now, this isn’t my only campaign platform there is more” she smiled again and glanced around the room at everyone. No, her hand was not shaking...okay maybe it was. But that was normal. “one thing I hold dear to my heart is the safety of our children, we were all students of one magical education system or another even if we trained at Beauxbaton, Salem, Durmstrang, or Hogwarts to name a few. Now we have all seen the Daily Prophet’s reportings on issues that have arisen at the schools now, such as the appearance of the Black ship in 2075?” Her smile wasn’t that happy right now. That one had hit home for her.

"A pirate's ghost, because of this possessed my own stepdaughter; still, more recently there was the ice storm that engulfed Hogwarts. As minister I will try to send delegates to deduce whether the situation is safe for not only our students but for the faculty and staff as well.” She smiled. "These are just some of the reasons why I want to help the ministry and help raise another generation, a generation that is and will be our future." There. She had done it! She smiled, nodded "thank you" she quietly spoke as she stepped off of the podium and returned to where Victoria was standing near her family and the other candidates that she was also interviewing.

As Alicia stood up at the podium and spoke, Simon turned his attention to her to listen intently. It was good for the most part but the last mention caused him to make a face, Why did she have to bring up that ship? That pirate ghost posession. That time in his life he'd much rather forget, and he was sure Kyle likely did too. The auror did his best to push the dark feeling aside, clapping after a small delay as she finished.

Pleasantries exchanged with the professor and a couple of more candidates speaking up and finally it seemed perhaps Simon should be off to mingle further. He didn't want to feel like a nuisance as others started leaving the group. However before he made his move, Mariel spoke up in polite question, the inquiry directed at him. "Well I had narrowed it down to a few including Victoria, but its getting stronger towards her." Might as well be truthful. " One former coworker failed and the other...well still on the fence about."

If you'll excuse me," he nodded to both Gavin and the other candidate.

"Mrs." Becca corrected Kingsley with a smile, but paused for a moment. "Not particularly, but I live in hope that you'll be more favourable." Hm. Her gaze turned to Gavin again, and she nodded. "I am." Unfortunately for him. His refusal of the drink, brought a shrug from Becca. "Okay! I understand." Oh, she really did. The Senior Undersecretary was either very cautious and very smart, or he just had issues with people. Maybe a little of both? Her eyes were drawn to the podium once more as Preston left, and she listened to his speech. Her immediate reaction was that some candidates were already biting at each other's necks. A smile appeared at Preston using his experience to inspire confidence in people, and the added touch of acknowledging those who came before. She wasn't convinced, though. What was his hidden motive?

"In your opinion, Mr. Isaacs, what makes a successful Minister?" Not a candidate. A minister. Becca's bright blue eyes focused on the man's face.

All of the politics going on was weird. And somewhat dull. Ember thought that politics were kind of DUMB. Whoever was minister of magic would, of course, be good for the job since ALL of the candidates seemed qualified. Ember didn't even know who was running. Were a lot of people running? She didn't know. She would have to check out the buffet, though.

MERLIN THERE WASN'T ANY MUSIC. Ember wouldn't be voting for ANY of these people who didn't sing. or dance. LIKE COME ON. SHOW SOME ENTERTAINMENT. She scooted her way over to the buffet and flipped her blueish hair over her shoulder. SO. MUCH. FOOD. She hadn't had ANY coffee before THIS event-so luckily Ember wasn't super hyper. But she DID want to dance. She always wanted to dance. And meditate. Or both at the SAAAAME time. Hmmph. Filling her plate with various food items, she tap-danced her way over to the seating area to listen to these 'political' folk rant and rant.

She couldn't even pretend she believed in government as an institution anyways. At least not one with one leader. But that was what having an entire ministry was for, right? So that one dude didn't go power hungry? Hmmph. Ember still was quiiiiiite unsure of it, but at least now they could vote for someone. That was a step up.

Before she thought TOO much about politics, though, she plopped down into an empty seat and dug in. SO. MANY. PEOPLE. She would of course clap for anyone who chose to talk. They all deserved SOOOO many hugs for having the courage to get up there, talk, and RUN in general.

Speaking of running, she was really proud of herself for not tripping in these heels. Sometimes she got so excited she pulled a baby!bambi and would stumble all over the place...

Oops.

João was there, and had listened to all the candidates. He had been lost in thought as he sat somewhere, watching everyone. He was contemplating life, one could say, but he snapped out of it at last. He had to meet people and prepare for future elections, although the thought made him snicker. So he got up, looked around, and spotted a lady looking lost. He made his way to her and put on his most charming smile.

"Hello, Miss," he greeted her, "may I sit here?" So that they weren't alone?

...

Cosgrach smiled at her. He would have said something, but another candidate was on the podium, and he wanted to hear all of them, so he kept silent...

And looked back at her once both of the candidates were done.

"I think your speech was brilliant," he said, "But there two chaps touched on more topics." Hmm. "I don't think Sherman Clark would pose too much of a threat," he looked old enough to die any instant, and Hogwarts had had too many issues to leave it be, "but this Kingsley... you should focus on him." He had some nice ideas, Cosgrach had to admit. "We need brochures that explain your ideas briefly but effectively." She also had to talk to people more. How many friends did she have, exactly?

But it was FOOD time, and he could never say no to that.

"My weak side," he said simply and grinned. He would have gone for food, but Mariel and Simon were still with them, and he wanted to converse with them more. Victoria excused herself soon to somewhere anyway. He watched briefly, then turned to Mariel and Simon.

Oh, Simon supported Victoria. Good to know. They stood at 4 votes already.

Tired of waiting around to be spoken to and not feeling the urge to interrupt others conversations, the blonde headed towards the podium in order to voice her ‘candidacy’ towards the nation. Or rather just those that were present and wanting to respond. She didn’t want her speech to be too long. She didn’t want it full of promises to the people and bribes towards those who were close. In some sense this was a popularity contest but she was appealing towards those whom had not yet made their minds up about who they ‘liked’ because they were ‘cute’ or because they were quirky or because they appeared to be qualified. She wanted to be a different sort of leader.

As she stood up behind the podium she was grateful that it was not too tall. Despite how amusing it would be to see this tiny woman attempting to reach the microphone she did actually wish to be a serious contender for this race.

“Hello. My name is Erica Radley and I am one of your candidates running for Minister of Magic. Now I have listened intently to my opponent’s thoughts and ideas and although I do not agree with some of what they have said, I respect their values and passion that they are injecting into this campaign.

I too am a mother, I have two beautiful children at home and I wish to do everything that is right for them and for the rest of the next generation amongst us. However I am not concerned with taking over the education system. I am not qualified to do so. I fully respect that there is a Board of Governors and a team of rather wonderful professors and staff at the school with ambitions to do what is right by our children. I am far more concerned with keeping us, as an entire Wizarding World protected. What good would it be to try and control the school when the rest of the country could be falling to pieces?

As a candidate I wish to listen to the thoughts and ideas of the people. I am not a dictator, I do not make false promises and I do not wish to make this nation exactly as I propose it to be. I would be a fair and attentive leader and I would make sure to hold regular conferences in which you, as the people, would ensure that your voices are heard. Further to this I would ensure that relations between the entire Wizarding communities, be them humans, beings or beasts are respected and protected by our people and by our Ministry. So instead of declaring all these ‘wonderful’ changes that I could try and make happen I want YOU to all tell me what it is you wish to change. I want this campaign to be run by you, the people the ones whose opinions truly matter. Tell me if you do not like the way a department is run, stand up and voice your opinion if you wish for something to be changed.

A good Minister is not one whom is campaigning to change a community into the way that they wish but one who wishes to change a community into one that is better for the people. We, or certainly not I, are not here because it would inflate our egos to be effectively in control but because we want to see our nation running as smoothly as we can. For our loved ones, for our neighbours and for the future generations.

I held a high position in the Ministry and spent four wonderful years working within the establishment in which I grew to thoroughly admire the people that spend their lives doing what is right for us all. I worked under two Ministers during this time but I know that despite the obvious occurrences that have been reported within our publications I would devote my attention to protecting us as well as our former ministers have done so in the past. We are still standing strong and we will not let this change.

I apologise that I have probably spent far too much of your time talking and I will allow you to proceed with the evenings entertainment.

Thank you.”

She stepped off from the podium and headed back towards the banquet to try out one of the delicious treats that were on offer. Just one.

This was why Becca knew she shouldn't have waited.

The woman had pretty much said the same thing she was about to say. Her blue eyes closed slowly, but she sighed and just shook her head. "I'm going to address the people before my whole speech is ruined completely. I'll come back for your response, Mr. Isaacs." Becca gave him a small nod, but moved to step up to the podium. Clearing her throat, she finally addressed the people in the room.

“Ladies, Gentleman, and those who identify as otherwise,” Becca started her speech, hoping that other candidates would realise that there were other kinds of magical beings out there that were important too. She was including them all! “My name is Becca Yenorin, and I would first like to state that if any of you have any questions for me, I am always available to you. It does not matter to me if you are a department head, an employee or simply a citizen of this country, I will make time for you. Everyone in this country is vital, and I think it’s about time someone showed you that.”

The confident redhead stood a little straighter, but also looked people directly in the face. “Secondly, I would like to thank those who have set this up, those who are interested in being here to inform themselves and the rest of the wizarding world,” She gave a nod to the reporters, “Those who were late because they were doing their jobs,” Her gaze went to Gidyun, but she looked back to the bigger group of people again “And those who simply dragged themselves here because they were expected to be here.” Mr Isaacs, and Warren. Yep. She had started to form opinions. “I appreciate you all making the effort, and I’m sure the other candidates do too,” But she couldn’t speak for them.

The next thing she WOULD have talked about was Minister Kettleburn, but she always told the kids that if you couldn’t say anything nice and mean it, don’t say anything at all, so she moved on. “I’ve heard the saying that those who don’t want power are the ones who are meant to have it, and while I do agree to some extent, I believe that those who have had to fight to be heard deserve some consideration.” Her gaze went back to Gid for a few seconds before she took a deep breath and continued. “Everyone has had difficult times, no one can ever say that they haven’t had a hard week or day. Those are the times when you need to have someone by your side that you trust and who will help you weather the storm. I believe that the Ministry and country needs this from a Minister.” Her hands were settled on the podium, so she ran her thumb over the wood as she spoke. “I implore you to choose a candidate who inspires confidence in you, who YOU believe will make the best decision to keep our economy flourishing and continue to lay the foundations for this country to stay great.” Were people following? She hoped so.

“My time in two Ministries has given me a unique insight into how they work, and I would make sure to implement and reintroduce some ideas from both of these institutions that worked well in practice, and if they don’t work out, then we can fix it easily.” We. Not her. We. Everyone ended up helping out anyway, so she might as well point that out. “I have been the person who slept at her desk, and I have been the person who has sent home the person who slept at their desk from working so hard. I remember everything about my time in the departments I’ve worked in and that has only served to make me work harder to make sure that every person that I can help gets that from me. I will not be unavailable, or unwilling to listen.” Accessible and helpful were Becca all over. Mhmm!

“Some candidates have talked about the youth of this generation in the context of education, and while I am going to touch on the subject of children, I would first like to make it clear that each and every child is their own person. They all need someone to listen, to help, and to guide them through their emotions and magic. That is what Hogwarts is there for, and I will defer to those who have built their lives around being everything that these young people need.” See? She DIDN’T know everything, and she wasn’t going to pretend to do so. “With that being said, I do believe that we need to address the fact that they will grow up quicker than any of us realise, and soon they will be the people that are looked to for leadership. As a society, we have a fundamental need to make sure that we leave this for them the way it has been left for us; flourishing and sustainable.” One hand lifted and gestured to people for emphasis. “I have children, and I am sure a number of you here do, too. I only want the best for them.” That was why she wasn’t going to beg them to vote for her. She was going to request they think long term instead of short term.

“A true leader isn’t all about the here and now. They think about the long term effects on society, too.” Yes, Roxanne. Looking at you with your Military boot camps. “If I can influence your decision in any way, I would like to only request that you choose the Minister who seems right for you and, if you agree with me about the long term, who seems to be the right person to set an example for the generation. Thank you for listening, and I hope to meet you all face to face.”

Finally, Becca stepped back and calmly walked back to Mr. Isaacs to hear his response to her question. Her ego had been left at the door as someone had written on the advice notes.

Ember was happy being alone. She was happy either way. Happy, happy HAPPY. She was kiiiiiind of drifting off with all of the speeches, though. SO. DULL. It was a wonder she even had come to this--but Ember loved an excuse to socialize--and eat free food. Free food was always a plus.

She turned her features towards the front, at the candidates, and siiiiighed. "It's a pity they're all so boring, isn't it?" If Ember was running she wouldn't have GIVEN a speech.

Despite Victoria always meaning some greater good, he couldn't help but feel that she'd been teasing him, if only a little, as she approached. When was socializing ever good for anyone? Given the choice he'd be at home locked away in his potions lab but alas, the demands of the job dictated that he present himself so here he was. And she'd seen him eyeing her husband, well that saved him half the work. Gavin's brows raised somewhat incredulously at her words. Blink. "Been home the last few days? Who's been holding down his classes?" He could pretend to understand the innate need to support one's spouse but this wasn't the major event, it was a simple meet and greet. Surely the children's education shouldn't have had to suffer for that. "I imagine he'd have wanted to wait til the next holiday before coming back from Scotland." It was brilliant he was back to normal though, made the rate of infection less likely in such a crowded space. No one knew what caused it and Gavin didn't want to be next. He grimaced somewhat at her question. "Don't see how I could but I suppose it could be worse." Yes, notably worse. People could be rushing to shake his hand!

His attention kept bouncing between the Candidates going up to give their speeches and the one holding a conversation with him now. It'd been his intention to listen to the words of the curious bloke just now until he was given his own question to mull over. Wasn't she on the ball? Gavin thought it over for a moment, trying to recall things he'd seen work and things that didn't before finally offering a response. "A people person; someone the majority know and love--someone who can gain their trust without having to try too hard. Of course this has to be balanced with integrity and having the people's best interest at heart. With so many people looking to you, you have to be sure you don't disappoint." There was a little more to it than that, but that was the basic of it.

SPOILER!!: Sherman

Althea smiled back at Sherman and nodded in acknowledgement, watching over her drink as he headed to the podium himself. She may have in theory been there to support him, but that didn't mean Althea wasn't about to listen closely, her opinion could still change.

...Alright, good start. Althea's expression remained politely attentive but otherwise gave no particular indication that she was any bit impressed. When he mentioned the board, and then essentially stepped aside from that platform in favour of employee longevity, she nodded once firmly. Score one for Sherman. He'd successfully indicated his support for Hogwarts issues whilst putting the focus on the Ministry, and Wizarding World itself. She sipped her drink and glanced around at the other candidates to see how they took that, then she applauded briefly when he was done and glanced at Dash as if to check if he now saw why she'd come into this with Sherman Clark as her top choice.
SPOILER!!: Preston

The next speech came quickly, thankfully and Althea fixed her attention squarely on this Preston Kingsley.

Hmmm a former professor. And a man with manners enough to be respectful of the outgoing Minister Kettleburn, who was still the current Minister for Magic after all. Her lip actually quirked at that ego comment too. Nice subtle little dig at Roxanne there, she was certain of it.

She wanted to hear more about his ideas.

SPOILER!!: Erica

Just one.

And now Erica Radley taking the mother stance... except she was also making it clear her candidacy wasn't riding on a Hogwarts-related platform. Althea was listening close here too. Interesting approach. She would like to know if the woman had any policies in mind or if she was simply planning to implement the ideas of others. Althea needed to know more, but she at least had no extreme opposition to her at this point.

It would be interesting to see if she could step up to the standard Sherman Clark and Preston Kingsley were already setting for this campaign, that was for sure.
SPOILER!!: Becca

Her ego had been left at the door as someone had written on the advice notes.

................................?

So this Becca woman wanted Althea to think about who she would vote for and who fit all these categories etc and so forth, but wasn't really saying anything to put herself in said categories? Althea wasn't exactly against this woman, it was simply she had got no sense of her or what she stood for, and that for some reason she seemed to have a problem with Kettleburn. Hmm. Maybe she'd say something more substantial next time. Regardless it was still heads and shoulders and skyscrapers above anything Roxanne had had to say.

--

Essentially the most recent four speeches were her current order of preference. Althea sipped her drink again. The interesting part would be to see how they responded to further questioning, of course.

Now... why hadn't anyone arrested Roxanne for assault yet?

"I hoped being vague for now would get people to really think about who they want in office." Hopefully it would work in her favour, but she had to be clearer next time. People liked information. Becca wanted to ask if he had a favourite yet, but decided that would be inappropriate, so she didn't. She just glanced over in Roxanne's direction. Military boot camps? Could she guide the woman to Warren so he could laugh in her face?

She was a happy person, wasn't she? João was desperately in need of those. He smiled back his most charming smile, and chuckled softly when she bounced in her seat. He could tell she and he were going to be friends.

"Thank you," he said and sat down, then followed her gaze to the podium. Another speaker was on. She didn't speak too bad -

"I have to say, some of them are." He still wasn't rooting for anyone yet. He knew just too well how pointless these speeches were - he wanted to see some action. Dancing, though? He laughed. "It'd be FUN, yeah." And maybe, THAT would have deterred some people - ten candidates for a minister position? Nowhere in the world could so many people declare for it.

"João Neves," he said, and held her hand but didn't shake it. He was going to KISS it. Why not? Girls loved such gestures, he was going to take a guess and say SHE would CERTAINLY like it, and he wanted to impress her. 'Sides, she wanted to have fun, and this was more fun than these speeches, in his opinion.

SPOILER!!: Mariel and Tori
[QUOTE=emjay;11685883]Derisive laughter?

Jorge was more focused on the events then the person beside him so if Tori had said anymore he hadn’t heard. Watching his wife join them he put an arm around her. “You alright?” He did catch her final words to the woman and was still smirking at this point. He’d sure to make sure this Roxanne wasn’t looking too nicely in the public eye. His controversial pieces would not be in her favor, though he might let Tori handle it since it did involve his wife. She’d have to make it good though, no sugarcoating what the woman dressed in that evening sort of article.

Looking down at her he smiled, “But I think this place needs you around, you put some very nice light in here.” Stirring up the candidates was a great way for a story and he didn’t even have to do it. “I need to listen to a few more candidates and talk to a few more people then I’ll be ready, but if you want to leave before me I can just meet you at home.” He didn’t want her leaving alone though so he hoped she could hold out maybe another hour. “Though the better question is, are you going to be speaking to Emily Browne about that woman putting her hands on you?” Not that he had much faith in the MLE, but she had no business doing what she did and something needed done. Possibly her being taking off the list of candidates. Didn’t she say she was in France before, why doesn’t she go back.

SPOILER!!: Mariel, Simon, Cossy
Quote:

Glad her friend was fine she nodded, “What was that woman thinking.” She said in a quieter voice. She knew she shouldn’t be saying much about the other candidates, but seriously. The accusations from that woman were very personal to Victoria and her job. “I’m glad you spoke up, it was needed.” Mariel was the perfect person to confront the woman. She listened as Mariel spoke to Cossy about her daughter, she was such a precious little baby. “One evening you are home maybe we could stop over so you can see her.” He got her a gift how sweet.

Oh well she was glad things were good and it was just Simon being on his toes. She’d hate to think that he was upset or something was going on. When he commented about her work study her eyes brightened. This was something she was very excited about. “That’s exactly what I mean. I would plan on looking at the YATI program more closely to see if we could utilize it throughout the ministry in the ways other departments would need it of course. “ Not meaning to make everyone go through that specific program of course. “I’ve just seen a rise in the number of young people coming into our ministry with little to no job experience. Some do not have the working ethics that we need to run our departments. I think if we had a true work study program in place it could help students learn the skills that you can’t in a book for a department they are interested in. This could give them very important life skills and help our ministry hire experienced people.” Her own department had seen a few headaches in the young department over the years.

Turning her eyes back to the little group she didn’t mean to go off on a tangent, but she just was so passionate about this program. It had been years in the making over her thoughts and experience. A smile crossed her lips as her husband said her speech was brilliant. She felt it could have been better, but it was still early in the campaign. “Maybe I should really think about getting someone to help me like a manager or maybe a best friend even though it’s selfish for me to ask when she has a small infant at home.” Cossy was helping her as well, but she thought maybe she needed a ministry person to help guide her thoughts onto parchment to make her speeches a little more to the point. She really did want to win and felt she’d be a great person for the job. “Mr. Clark seems to know his stuff.” She just wasn’t sure if a board member was a good candidate for the minister position. The question yet again crossing her mind if he should stay on as a member of the board or not. It seemed like a conflict of interest maybe? Though it wasn’t really her concern at the moment.

Cossy was right about something, “Yes Mr. Kingsley seems to be a good candidate so does Ms. Radley. I think you are right about focusing on them.” She’d say the three were her biggest competition. Though she wasn’t going to just wave off the others either. It was only their first speeches. Everyone was still very much in this running. She liked the ideas her husband was giving, “Those are great ideas.” She wondered if maybe him and Mariel could join forces to be part of her campaign team.

SPOILER!!: Gavin

She chuckled at Gavin’s comment, he was a smart man, but wasn’t thinking to clearly about transportation now was he. “He flooed home for an evening to return my wand and let me know he was alright. We discussed what was going on at that school and the next morning he flooed back to be back for his duties and lessons. I’m very glad he did, because I’ve been worried about him. How I left him that day was not a way one wants to leave their husband.” He could understand that couldn’t he? What if Emily had been possessed or one of his nieces. “When you can floo it’s very easy to visit.” Honestly her friend wasn’t that oblivious of how things worked certainly he knew professors didn’t fully stay in the castle the entire term.

She was more than ecstatic that he was able to make it this evening. “He surprised me by coming tonight. It was very sweet.” Glancing back over towards him. It was very sweet of him to floo over just for this. “Well if you need rescued from anyone you know I’ll be around talking to people.” What were friends for if not to rescue from awkward socializing.

So this little pow wow, was important yes? He suppose all those gathered thought it was so but he knew better. There was still not that many persons he fancied being around yet but alas, there was Gavin....and he was with people...great.

Never the less, the young Bellaire eased his way towards where the Senior Undersecretary was sitting and stood to the left of his chair.

He nodded an acknowledgement to the people he was talking to, then glanced down to the man.

"Doesn't look or sound like I've missed much of anything..."

Ember nodded exaggeratedly and stabbed something on her plate with her fork--she didn't know what half of it was. She was vegetarian, for the most part, except when trying new things. She didn't want to miss out on yumminess. And at social events she couldn't HELP herself. SHe swallowed--quickly--"Mhm! Who knows if I'll even VOTE--none of them have stood out to me--they all say the SAME things over and over--" Could he TELL Ember wasn't a fan of...political happenings?

She was about to reply to his weird name when he KISSED. HER. HAND. Ember's cheeks EXPLODED in a blush and she just--WHAT EVEN. WHAT WAS HAPPENING. She just squeaked at him for a minute before----grabbing his hand and kissing HIS.

There.

She had RETURNED the gesture.

......was that socially acceptable?! SHE WAS SO CONFUSED. "I--yeah--well--thanks for that..." she said with a LOT of blinking. "Jaahhhooo--" his name was weird and hard for her to pronounce. "Jaho." Ugh. "Well anyways--" she BEAMED AND wondered if exchanging hand kisses meant DEFINITE friendship.

"And I...get reaaady for it--" she winked and BEAMED--"Am EMBER BRIGHTEN!!" she may have yelled her name really loud. Like. Super, too loud.

Oops.

She covered her mouth, blushing, and just glanced around..had..had anyone HEARD HER? Well...just oopsies.

As she departed, Preston returned to jotting down notes on his own speech, having had such a strong reaction to Roxanne Carter's.

*and others in here*

Well, this was getting a bit more interesting. Tori didn't push the candidates further for more questions, as most were spreading out and drifting toward the podium, but she DID make her quill write down EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING they had to say could be used for something, and as the budding, determined journalist she was, she was not going to miss a THING.

Now that she was standing beside Jorge, however, she reserved her judgments and kept her thoughts to herself, applauding only politely after each candidate spoke.

She didn't deserve the win at all the way she was acting this evening.

He rolled his eyes a bit at the name, "She's Mariel's close friend, so I know a bit more about her compared to the other candidates." He'd probably help with a story but wouldn't actually write it. He didn't need in the doghouse at home because he used personal knowledge against his wife's friend.

"You don't have to share, just get the best dirt you can. Everyone has skeletons in their closets. Some just hide them better than others." His smirk back on his face as he chuckled. If anyone could do almost as good as him it would be Tori she had proven that a few times they had worked together.

Speaking of Jorge though... whoooooooweee. Tori's focus was ALSO more on his wife than on him, no offense. She took his advice in stride and noted it in her mind, but was too interested in the catfight to say much else.

"Hi Mariel," she greeted the brunette with a genuinely polite smile, adding a quick, "Well, you handled that better than SHE did," side remark. Not that she wanted to stir up Mariel any more, but.... this spat would be what everyone was talking about tomorrow. She nodded along with what Jorge was saying about Emily Browne, even though Tori (personally) wouldn't trust law enforcement to do anything about that. Look, loads of aurors had been standing around just now, and not one of them had done a thing! Plus the aurors/Browne had manhandled Jorge that one time...

The fiery husband and wife duo looked to be getting ready to leave, or move elsewhere, and that was Tori's cue to go talk to someone else as well. "I'm going to go grab a bite, so you two try to enjoy the rest of the evening," she excused herself politely.

Ahem.

Passing her drink over he nodded.

"Are you still set on Clark?" Dash's eyes flickered to the much older man for a second. Unlike his wife he had no real reason to support the man. He didn't know him very well and he didn't seem qualified anyways.

Then again, if this whole thing was really about qualifications none of the candidates would probably be running.

...Alright, good start.

It would be interesting to see if she could step up to the standard Sherman Clark and Preston Kingsley were already setting for this campaign, that was for sure.
................................?

Annnnnnnnd here were the people she wanted to talk to. EHEHEHHEE. Tori was as pleased as could be to find her former professors, standing TOGETHER, next to each other. WHEEEEHEHE. This was all her shipping dreams come true. Boy was she ever glad her quill and notepad were still out...

"Mr. and Mrs. Scabior," the redhead bubbled with a simply devilish grin, "how ARE you two? My favorite former professors... together at last, in public, happily married, making appearances, doing their duties as concerned citizens....."

What else could she say? Should she jog their memories? Surely they wouldn't forget THE Bunbury they'd had in class... Tori settled for something simple, her quill poised as ever on the parchment in front of her.

"PLEASE tell me your thoughts on the candidates so far."

João raised his eyebrows - in a good manner, of course. But he was surprised. "But... this is the governing body that will decide for ya. You should vote, although they do sound like they are repeating each other. Might be because there are so many candidates but only a definite amount of issues to address. I wonder why they let this many to run for it." Could she tell João wasn't a fan of how this was handled?

Anyways. Introductions were happening and... she kissed his hand back?

João certainly wasn't expecting this. He was just as confused as she was, but in the end, especially when she failed to pronounce his name, he LAUGHED.

And his laughter just got MORE intense when she yelled her name.

"You DO brighten people's day, don't ya?" HAHAHAHA.

Would she mind that he was laughing?

HEHE.

Lorraine had heard out her fellow candidates and whilst some of them had ideas that overlapped with her own, she figured it was high time she strode over and made her own statement, as she contemplated her speech in her head so as not to sound repetitive for what had been said.

Stepping up to the lectern, she smiled and patiently waited for some quiet so she wasn't talking over too many people. "Good evening, witches and wizards of the United Kingdom!" She paused. "My name is Lorraine Ellsbury, for those who don't know, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to speak with you tonight as well over the course of the coming months."

Lorraine rested her fingertips on the lectern in front of her and smiled around the room. "It may surprise some of you of my candidacy as I have not been a prominent figure in the British Ministry for over a decade, but I assure you that I bring a wealth of both International and Domestic information to the table. I have kept up with our country's affairs throughout my time in the Australian Ministry of Magic as well as in my current position of European Transportation Ambassador."

"I could tell you more about my qualifications, or details of my stance, but that information is all readily available so instead, I'm going to provide you with a story about adversity and life." It was of course a well-known story that had been around for awhile, but it was appropriate and held a good punchline, with what she thought to be insightful as to the kind of Minister she might be.

"A young woman goes to her mother and tells her of her struggles and how difficult things are. She wanted to give up, as it seemed problems were constantly evolving, as soon as one was solved. The mother takes her daughter into the kitchen and fills three pots with water on a fire. Once the water boiled, she placed carrots in one pot, eggs in the second, ground coffee beans in the third. Letting them sit in the boiling water for about twenty minutes, she then turned off the burners and fished the carrots out, placed them in a bowl, pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl, and ladled coffee out into a third bowl. 'Tell me daughter, what do you see?'

Her daughter stared, confused, 'carrots, eggs and coffee of course, but what does this have to do with anything?' She frowned at her mother.

Her mother just smiled and took her daughter's hand to feel the carrots. The carrots were soft. She then asked her daughter to break the egg; to which she pulled off the shell and discovered a hard-boiled egg. Lastly, she sipped the coffee and tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter frowned again though, setting the bowl of coffee back down. 'But I don't get it.'

Her mother just explained patiently that the objects each faced the same adversity, boiling water, but each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, unrelenting - but after the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile, with its thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior. But upon sitting in the boiling water, its interior hardened. But the coffee beans were different - they changed the water."

She paused and let the story sink in. "As Minister of Magic, I cannot lose my strength; I have to be there for the people, for you. When the hours are at their darkest and trials are greatest, my interest lies in changing the situation around me for the better. So I could bore with credentials and my stance, which is all public knowledge anyway, but I won't. I will say this though, I have the experience to respond to adversity and to bring a new light to life's chaos. I have no doubts that we will better understand each other as the campaign progresses and I look forward to getting to know you. Thank you for your time and enjoy the rest of your evening."

Finally, the brunette stepped down from the lectern to mingle some more and get to know more people (and for them to get to know her).

HEHE.

Ember siiiighed. "I know--I will vote--I just--hmm. I am not sure who I want." Was a random choice...an option? Eh? Probably..not. Shucks! 'I guess..I don't know...it is a bit odd." But Ember shrugged and nibbled on something on her plate. She didn't know what. But it had such a WEIRD taste that she made a face and swallowed.

Ugh.

She would NOT be tasting that thing again-whatever in the world THAT was. Merlin!

Oh my he was laughing. He was laughing a lot. Ember smiled brightly. Was she funny? Did he THINK she was funny? OMG. SHE WAS FUNNY. SOMEONE THOUGHT SHE WAS FUNNY. HA! He got the beamiest beam that Ember EVER beamed--"I TRY to ALWAYS brighten up people's daaaays--" she sang the last word and laughed. "But sometimes--people are just TOOOO grumpy to handle it--" she siiiighed in remembrance of her run-in with Gavin. And Emily Browne. "My parents though--yeah--they thought they'd be FUNNY and name me EMBER. SO--I feel like I've....rather grown INTO my name!" She giggled some more and took another sip of her drink.

And another candidate went and spoke for like AAAGES about stuff. Ember stayed quiet but was rocking her foot a bit the whole time Dull stuff. She clapped politely when it was over but rolled her eyes at her NEW friend who had a preference for hand kissing, apparently. "Well. What did you think of ....her?"

The fact she agreed with him gave him a little more confidence in her than half the people who had already gone up. What they gave was more 'what I can do to make sure you know I'm the one that did it' despite it being a terrible idea to begin with but he wouldn't be saying anything about that. Merlin no, in the event they won, he would use his team of advisors to make them see reason and barring that, call for an emergency election. The possibilities were endless.

"Being vague has its merits but it does little in opposition to someone who's clearly stated where they plan to take the Wizarding world. From experience I've found that people like knowing. It makes them feel like they're apart of the process." Even if they weren't really.

That's hardly what she said a moment ago and now Gavin felt like he was getting two different kinds of stories in one conversation. Those were hard enough to keep up with without the intricate changing of words in such a way that they conveyed two different messages. He was tempted to ask which one of them he was meant to follow and internalize but felt a simple nod would have been a better response. However he wanted to travel and what he didn't wasn't really his concern, it was the Headmistress. That was how one stepped back, how one did not encroach on another's territory. Several of them should have been taking notes.

And another, firmer nod, this one coupled with a smile. "Ever the savior, aren't you?" It didn't take a seer or mind reader to know that the man had an aversion to interaction. It was nice of her to offer to save him.

"On the contrary, you missed quite a few speeches." But in essence the young man was right. Gavin could have been briefed on the speeches. There was hardly a reason for him needing to be here as was heavily implied.

"I didn't think you'd be interested in this sort of scene just yet." Yet here he was.

"Well then good." He wasn't really interested in the speeches anyway and there was nothing going on in his department at the moment so here he was..wandering and being curious.

Tyler conjured a chair to squeeze in the space next to Gavin and plopped down.

"I don't think I would be interested in it period." Not just..yet..not ever. He would keep his hands clean of politics for life. Definitely not his cuppa.

........................ what in the hell? She hadn't come here for story time. How was anyone supposed to better understand this woman if she just spent ten bloody minutes on a cooking lesson? Because no, details of her stance, as she put it, were not readily available, this was when she was supposed to tell her potential supporters exactly what it was that set her apart. And that purple prose about adversity and chaos at the end? Althea was having none of it.

Big fat nope right here.

Thankfully her attention was diverted... by a former student. No, she had not forgotten Tori Bunbury. By this point in her life she knew a few Bunburys and not one of them were forgettable. Still, this one was with the Daily Prophet so potentially she had an angle.

"We're well, Tori." And Althea had no reason to argue with any of that. Very happily married actually, though that last part, well Dash was really only here because she'd insisted he attend with her.

As he should.

Oh she wanted her thoughts? Well, Althea wasn't about to slander or libel half (more than half, lets face it) of the candidates running, but she was willing to make her support clear where it fell and let her silence account for the rest. "I came here today to support Sherman Clark in his bid for Minister, and he currently has my vote. However I'm not close-minded to other candidates -if they impress me- and I was impressed by Preston Kingsley, and to a lesser extent Erica Radley. I would have liked to hear more substance from the others and more detail about important matters. This is the wrong election to be campaigning for Hogwarts issues."
