Red and I just took part in a phone interview with actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), who is in New York right now in the midst of doing publicity for his new film
Twilight. Robert stars in the film, playing vampire Edward Cullen based on the popular book series by author Stephenie Meyer.
Below are excerpts from the interview.
Quote:
SnitchSeeker.com: How are you enjoying New York?
It's great. I love New York. I'm just working the whole time.
Have you ever recommended the Twilight books to your friends?
I don't have very many friends. I have like two friends and they already know I'm doing it, so it'd be random if I said like, "Hey, have you heard about this book, Twilight?" (laughs) They may have read it, I'm not really sure. I think my family have all read it.
How did you relate to the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?
When I was doing the part I had so little idea of how to act. I was sort of just doing that off the cuff. I don’t know how much of it is acting and how much of it is just being there and reading the line.
We also asked Rob about a
rumour that surfaced earlier this year, which stated that he and actor Rupert Grint made a bet in reference to the
Twilight books. He affirmed that it was not true.

The Daily Snitcher: Assuming there will be more Twilight films, do you think that the Twilight series can do for you what Harry Potter did for Dan Radcliffe?
People are really like obsessed with the books. From what I've seen it's a different kind of obsession. I don't know if I'd be able to really handle that. I think it's definitely a possibility, depending on how well it does.
Are the Twilight fans crazier than the Harry Potter fans?
I don't know. I didn't do too many promotional things for Harry Potter. I did quite a lot of press junkets and stuff, but not actual confrontations with the fans, as I've done quite a few on this. So I never really saw the extent of it beyond the premieres, which I was expecting, But with this … I never expected anything like this. They screen the trailer and people go nuts. It's a new experience for me.
Robert commented a bit on playing Cedric:
Quote:
With Cedric I felt very natural doing a lot of his stuff. Because it was my first really big thing, I kept telling myself, "It's not a big deal. It's not a big deal. It doesn't matter if you make up a bit of the line."
Harry Potter's Page: You felt you related more to Cedric?
No, not really. I knew a guy just like Cedric when I went to school and I was thinking about him a lot when I was doing that.
The actor also spoke about how he prepared to audition for his role in
Twilight.
Quote:
Twilighters.org: What made you want to audition for the part of Edward?
I had absolutely no idea I was gonna get it. I thought it was even silly, me going in to do an audition. The way they were doing the audition at the director's house, just with the director and the actress. And I knew she was good, I knew Kristen [Stewart] was good. So I just went as a normal audition and I really liked how it went. So that changed my whole mind about the whole project afterwards.
So basically Kristin was one of the main reasons you wanted to do it?
Yeah, pretty much. Especially after the audition. I had no idea how to play it. I went in literally thinking I was just going to stand there and pose. I just thought like the most important thing about this character, the way I saw it at the beginning, was like just the way he looks all the time, so I was just thinking that, "Well, I'll just try and look as pretty as I can." That was my only idea when I was going in. And then after the audition my mind changed about everything.
Robert also stated he definitely plans on doing
New Moon and
Eclipse, based on the second and third books in the series, but doesn't know when shooting will begin on
New Moon.
And if anyone is interested, his favorite dinosaur is:
