Creature Meet 'n' Greet & Adoption Booth

A very different kind of pull. Strutting around his area with a snowy owl perched on his shoulder, the former Slytherin paused to check his "Good day," he greeted with a polite nod and equally polite smile. "Do you have a favorite creature, per chance?" And chances were that Pippa was going to be the real draw to their booth considering her literal menagerie. |
Pippa had had quite a time setting up her area of the Creature Meet and Greet area. Not that she had any trouble filling her space--no, the problem had been deciding just which creatures to bring. They were all so wonderful, and so many of them were eager to find forever homes! Pippa had been up late hours all week discussing it with them all. Finally, though, she'd come up with a representative selection of cats, dogs, rabbits, rodents, ferrets, and a few of the nicer reptiles. All of the creatures were kept from roaming around the celebration by a judicious use of spells around the area, and there was a shaded, magically cooled corner for the reptiles. For her presentation, though, she had chosen four types of her more magical creatures. Glancing at the pocket-watch her father had left her, she saw that the time for her presentation was growing closer. Pippa looked down at her monkey, Bo, who was standing ready to keep an eye on the animals while Pippa was speaking. "Ready, Bo?" she asked him? "It won't be long now!" |
~open~ Dunk was SO excited today he could barely keep his grin off his face all the way from their home where he talked his parents' ears off about his plans for today. "Mum, look!" he'd chirp. "DAD!" All the attention, and all the happiness. The only missing person was Mallory, who might do something malicious to ruin his mood just for the fun of it, but still! He wished she was with them today. Naturally, Dunk dragged his parents over to the feeding demonstration. Wait, were THEY allowed to feed the creatures? GASP. He stood there, froze with potential scenarios of how he would feed every creature, and stared ahead at the person who seemed to be readying for a presentation. |

Shaking his head he said thoughtfully to the adult man. "I'm not sure if I do actually have a favourite creature. I like a lot of creatures though, but my parents doesn't allow pets in the house unless you can count our ancient barn owl harry who is like 30 years old or something." |
Shan/Lisaaaa! <3 It was important that she arrived here in good time this morning, because she was fed up of the incessant queuing she had already done at this event, and she wanted to be the first person to meet the owlies and other little creatures. Remy loved all animals, and considered herself a person of gentle nature that was perfect for handling them. Perhaps a career in a creature related profession was on the horizon? Naw, she hadn't thought about any of that stuff properly, and while many ideas about her future had come to pass, absolutely none of them had stuck just yet. Remy pranced into the booth, licking her fingers as she had just finished her daily dose of curly fries. The organisers of this event sure knew how to cook those!! She watched all of the animals with adoration, nothing distracting her from the little cuties. She was unaware that her hands still smelled of ketchup - hopefully the owlies wouldn't mind that. |
Haaai! <3 Quote:
She walked towards the crowd, glancing around as she took on the whole scene and then widened her eyes when she spotted a familiar face. Remy! A bright smile graced her lips. “Remy! Hey!” she greeted as she literally bounced over to see her friend. Big hug! “Are you here to see the creatures too?” |
Quote:
:omgomg: IT WAS LISA. Remy hadn’t seen Lisa since summer started, so the big hug greeting was completely necessary. “Lisa! Fancy seeing you here!” They hadn’t planned to meet each other today but they absolutely were going to hang out now. Breaking from the hug, Remy looked back to the cute creatures. “Of course, they are having feeding and grooming demonstrations today.” Was Lisa as enthusiastic about touching these cuties like she was? “Ahhhh, I’ve missed you!! What have you done so far this summer? I…” she started to go into details about her own summer but decided it would be rude to ask and then go straight into talking about herself. Working on being less self centred here. “I wanna hear all about it.” Remy grinned wide. |
All right--it was time! Pippa Weatherbee strode to the area at the center of the three adjoining shop areas, ready to start her presentation. In one arm she cradled a sleek, silver little creature that looked something between a ferret and a weasel. In her other hand, she grasped her trusty chestnut wand (a bit long for such a small woman, but the wand chooses the wizard and what are you gonna do?) As she reached the wooden platform in the center, she deftly transfigured one of the nearby stools into a sort of podium and moved it toward her, then carefully placed the creature on it. There was a short pause as Pippa leaned toward the little being, speaking softly and shaking her finger at it from time to time, almost as if she were warning it about something. Then Pippa straightened up, cleared her throat, pointed her wand at her throat and cast a quick Sonorus on herself, and began to speak. "Good morning, everybody! I'm Pippa Weatherbee, of the Magical Menagerie, and I'd like to thank you for coming down for the Diagon Alley celebration and to my presentation. This morning I'll be showing you four creatures, which are just a small sample of the ones available in my shop. These are some of the more magical varieties, however." "Now this," she said, gesturing toward the silver creature on the podium, "is a Jarvey. They're found in Britain, Ireland, and North America. They live mostly underground and catch gnomes, but they'll also eat moles and rats and such. They look like ordinary, if rather large, ferrets, except for the fact that...they can talk!" As she paused for effect, the jarvey began to speak:"Pencil-wit, Hippogriff-hair-for-brains, scrawny skinny silly stupid sot!" Pippa watched the jarvey insult her calmly, then turned back to the audience. "Jarveys talk, but, as you can tell, they mostly talk nonsense, and rude nonsense at that. "Silly-putty, nutty-buddy, willy-nilly, hilly-billy..." prattled the jarvey cheerfully. "They're amusing...for a while, at least, but you can't have a real conversation with one." Pippa added, looking indulgently at the jarvey. "Knock-kneed nelly, fungus-belly, giggle-gaggle, nickle-knackle, scrawny-ankled carrot-headed screechy little..." Here Pippa suddenly looked worried and cast a quick silencing charm on the jarvey, who went on talking as if nothing had happened, even though no one could hear what it was saying any longer. Whew, that was a close one, Pippa thought to herself. The jarvey's rude comments had been on the verge of getting just a bit too rude for a family-friendly event. Maybe bringing jarveys to this event hadn't been such a good idea. "Jarveys can make amusing, if occasionally annoying, pets , though they're probably best for adults, as they have no internal censor. Also, because of their power of speech, they can't be kept in areas where there are Muggles. Well, thank you very much, and if you'll just give me a sec to put Jabberwocky back, I'll bring out the next creature." Pippa carried the still-silently-chattering jarvey back to her area and placed it in a small curtained-off area in one corner with another jarvey. Although she removed the silencing charm, she cast a quick Muffliato on their pen and made a mental note to return them to her shop right after her presentation. |

She wore the biggest smile was on her lips as she hugged her friend. She wasn't letting go for a bit too, okay? She rocked the hug left to right with excitement before stepping back from the hug. It was so GOOD to see her. "It's so nice to see you here! That's what I heard. I really enjoyed the Creature Sanctuary at school. Unfortunately I couldn't bring Pascal with me today." She looked around, wondering if she could get a sneak preview of the creatures they'd get to pet. "What creature do you want to pet the most today?" When she heard that Remy missed her, Lisa's smile grew. It was NICE to be MISSED and NEEDED. "I've missed you too. I was DREADING being at home. Not like dreading dreading, y'know, but sad not to be around you, Serena, Jasper, and V... And Daniel too... I miss Hogwarts but love being home too." Now what had Lisa been up to this summer? Well apart from spending time with the family, theatre camp, and growing a few inches... there hadn't been much. She still needed to hang out with Jasper and her friends. Maybe they ought to have a summer pool party or something? "I haven't been doing much except my theatre summer camp in our local village... and then spending time with family. We're performing Beauty and the Beast and I'm playing CHIP!" She was excited for it but can't help that she was starting to wonder if she was being type cast as the adorable kid because of her height. "It's nice to have my eldest brother at home again. I missed him when I was at school. What about you? What have you been up to? I wanna hear ALL about it too!" |
Quote:
When were the demonstrations starting? Had she gotten the wrong day? “Yeah… I felt a bit like that, too.” Probably not quite as much as Lisa. Her last few weeks as a first year were a bit lame, mostly from being home sick. Ironically, now that she was home she couldn’t wait to leave again. “At least we’re here now, right before we become SECOND YEARS!” Meep, it was so exciting. By the way, a summer pool party would be a FANTASTIC idea. Remy’s face did a funny thing when Lisa mentioned she was going to a theatre camp. Ummm… how could she NOT mention a theatre camp to her fellow lost boy? “Chip? Aww, cute, I think he’s my favourite character.” Her comment stung with a little jealousy, but still smiling, nonetheless. “I’d love to see your play!” Could that be a thing? Or was it a club exclusive kind of play? She nodded, because she had the exact same thing going on for her. “I’m glad you’ve spent time with your brother! My sister is also home for the summer, too, so we’ve been spending loads of time together.” Maybe not as much as she was letting on but anything was better than nothing. “Not a lot, I’ve been here all this week...” pretty much… “I’ve also been learning how to play the guitar, and been to a few beaches.” Couldn’t ask more from a summer really, and bumping into her besties randomly like today made it even more perfect. |
For anyone that's interested! xD Colwyn Johanson had spent some time setting up his area with various cages of all sizes that housed many species of owls. Seeing there were some children in attendance today, he was glad to have brought some of his smaller owls along with him from his shop. A quick glance at the watch on his wrist told him it was just about time to start. "Are you ready, Copper?" He whisper to the fairly decent sized Pharaoh Eagle Owl that was standing on a large perch beside him. The owl in mention gave a soft hoot and blinked his orange eyes at his person. They were ready. Col grinned widely. "Hello, hello! I'm Colwyn Johanson the shopkeeper at Eeylops Owl Emporium and this here is my buddy Copper." He laid a gentle hand on the owls head smoothing the feathers there. "Copper is a Pharaoh Eagle Owl, he's rather large at about two and a half feet tall. And when he stretches his wings all the way out.." There was a brief pause as he moved quickly out of the way as if on cue (and it was!) Cooper unfurled his wings and gave a quick flap. "His wing span is nearly as wide as I am tall!" Impressive isn't he! Colwyn went on to talk some more about his delightful owl who was stealing the show just as he had hoped. This was all about the owls and other creatures anyhow. "Before Cooper returns to his cage for a rest and I bring out my next friend, would anyone like to come up and meet him? You're welcome to give him a gentle pet and I have some treats if anyone would like try to feed him." Obviously he would be standing right there to assist anyone and answer any questions. |
ME, I AM INTERESTED ! :butshy: SPOILER!!: Colwyn Tomasz would have preferred to have the weekend off, but he did not want to cause a scene or be reason for any inconvenience. He was also not wanting to ask too much of Mr. Upstead and as such, he showed up to his security shift in uniform and without complaint. It was not so bad. He liked being stationed outside of the Ministry. It was good to be outside sometimes. It was also good to get a better idea of what the event would be like, so that he could maybe ask Demi to accompany him the next weekend - fortunately, he had that weekend to himself. Wanting to keep away from the fireworks booth, Tomasz made his way towards the Creature Meet 'n Greet instead. He had a soft spot for kneazles now that he had been taking care of a stray kitten for a few weeks. Maybe he could even ask a few questions, seeing as he didn't really know what he was doing. What he hadn't intended to do, however, was make eye contact with the shopkeeper who was asking around for volunteers. Not wanting to look dismissive, Tomasz offered the man a nod and took a few steps forward with his hand extended towards the Pharaoh Eagle Owl. "Yyy... Your owl, he is very handsome," he moved awkwardly to pet one of its wings. |

Lisa nodded when Remy mentioned that they were about to become SECOND YEARS. "It'll be nice not to be treated so much so like babies... but I'll miss the free help. Do you think older students help second years as much as first years?" she genuinely asked her friend. It may be a good fact to keep in mind of when and how to selectively ask for help. She was certain that Claudine would help her again because she was Claudine. And same thing went for Noah Mordaunt. Honestly all the older kids were fairly nice. The Ravenclaw did pick up on Remy's strange facial expression. Lisa couldn't tell what emotion she wore on her face exactly but it wasn't super happy.... or so she interpreted it that way. She beamed when Remy said Chip was her favourite. "Much better than Belle, huh?" she added, feeling much happier about her role. Her dream role was to play either Belle or Lumiere. Because Lumiere was fun but Belle was pretty cool too but she'd have to be taller and prettier to be here.... She got excited again when Remy said she wanted to see her play. "You should come! It's in two weeks. AND we have more auditions so you should audition for the next show too. It'd be fun to do it together." She would have LOVED to have her friend in rehearsals now but if Remy auditioned for the NEXT SHOW then they could be STARS together. Ohhh her sister was home too? "Nice! That must be loads of fun. How old is your sister again? Is she at Uni?" she asked, tilting her head to the side. She was having trouble recalling Remy's sister in her mind and thus wanted to clarify. SHE THEN GASPED - not at the jarvey - but at the fact Remy was learning how to play guitar. THAT WAS SO COOL. Lisa thought that was the coolest thing EVER. "REMY! That's awesome. I wanna hear you play. What song are you learning? Can I make song requests when we're back at school?" she asked. |
I'm a bit confused. Is there someone that helps with the adoption or is it an npc? Austin found his way to the creature section. He looked around and saw all the owls and other creatures. He was hoping to find a niffler. He wasn't sure if they had any but he'd also be willing to adopt an owl too. |
Any volunteers? It was Pippa's turn again and she was ready! No more talking creatures in public, she'd decided. This time she would show a much more respectable group, and indeed, the striking white raven she was carrying perched on her forearm was quite stately and dignified. As Pippa reached the platform, she transfigured several stools into perches, then turned to face the audience. "Hi, folks, back again. This time I've got a group of ravens, which would properly be called 'an unkindness of ravens.' Pippa paused to let that sink in. "Ravens are part of the genus Corvus, which covers quite a lot of different birds. Ravens are very similar to crows except for a few differences, the most noticeable one being their larger size. The type most commonly found in the Northern Hemisphere is the corvus corax or 'common raven,' although no raven is really common. They usually live about 10 to 15 years, but have been known to get as old as 23. They have a wide range of vocalizations, the most distinctive being a sort of deep 'prruk...prruk sound." As Pippa demonstrated how a raven might sound, the white raven on her arm also made deep 'prruk...prruk' sound in response. Pippa chuckled and went on, "Most ravens are black, but there are a few white ravens, like Balder here." Pippa paused a moment to gaze fondly at the white raven on her arm. "Ravens are very intelligent and playful--other birds will land if they see ravens already there because they figure if the ravens think it's okay, it must be safe. And they mate for life." As she said this last, Pippa made a couple of sharp, distinctive whistles, and a pair of black ravens flew up to the platform and settled themselves on two of the perches. "This is Troy and Cressie, a mated pair, and they'd like to do a trick for you, if someone would like to volunteer to help me?" With that, Pippa looked expectantly out at the audience--surely someone, maybe one of these kids, would like to get up close with a raven? |
Waddles~ Although being a personal assistant in the DMC did not require super extensive knowledge of creatures, Carson often felt that he was not good enough, like he was a liability in team missions. He knew that the only way to stop feeling so negative was to work hard and improve his knowledge, which was why he could never pass up a chance to learn more about magical creatures. When he saw that there was a creature meet 'n' greet booth in the 600 Years of Diagon Alley Celebration, he persuaded his former classmate Honora to go with him. Not only would it be a learning opportunity, but they could also get to pet and hold some of the animals! Arriving just before Pippa Weatherbee began her presentation on ravens, he glanced at Honora, curious about her thoughts on this species, and listened attentively to the shopkeeper. "Wanna volunteer?" he nudged his friend with a playful smile. |

"Why, thank you, so much." He offered a light smile at the compliment that was given to one of his owls. It always made him proud when something nice was sad about one of them. "Copper here has been with me since he was a tiny owlet. That was quite some time ago and he sure has grown since than," he gave a small chuckle. "Do you like owls?" He was always curious about how others felt about them. Quote:

He did not mind owls so much, but they were by no means his most favorite of animals. He was always kind to those who came by the house for delivery and always took extra care to give them treats for their efforts. He took great care in thanking those that made delivery runs for him too. So maybe he should not have settled on just 'OK'. But it was too late to change his words now. Instead, he tried to elaborate, in hopes that he could explain himself better. "I am more fond of cats, but owls, they are good animals too." He had no idea who he was speaking to, if that weren't obvious. |
SPOILER!!: “sorry this is late!” Her eyes widened at the thought, “It better be magenta!” Magenta was PINK, she felt proud for know that fact. Suddenly every picture that she had ever seen of a Fwooper WAS magenta. Remy quietened again when Pippa moved on to the next creature - Ravens! It was a lot of information, but she was here for it, and then suddenly she was asking for a volunteer and her hand shot up faster than it ever had before. “I’LL DO IT.” Hopefully she’d let Lisa come up too, because she had no doubt in her mind that her friend would want to join her.. She smiled at Lisa’s comment about V and Daniel, although she was a little unaware of their situation and dynamic, since having not really spoken to Daniel and having a kinda weird friendship with V. “I’d love to see that.” She said. Remy hadn’t really thought about whether older students would be less likely to help them. Remy made an all-knowing face. “We don’t need them, Lees, we’re awesome.” In all fairness, she had gotten through her first year without anyone’s help. “Yeah? I’d love to come!” Remy thought about who she could ask to sit with her in the audience, as she’d be scared to arrive to a new place alone. Probably wouldn’t be allowed to either. “Is there anyone else we know that’d be there?” Maybe Lisa had asked other friends to come see. Her face lit up like it was Christmas (which is in 128 days IRL, just saying) when Lisa mentioned there’d be more auditions this summer. “Oh definitely!!! I’m looking for more acting gigs since I’m not sure about auditioning next term at school.” Because of how awful the plays events had been. Woah - all the questions!! “Anjya is 20, and she’s currently training to become a healer. Cool, right?” Remy admired her big sis very much. Lisa’s excitement was contagious, mostly because Remy loved to discuss herself and what she was up to. She BEAMEDDDDD. “I mean, I’m not very good right now. It takes years to learn and I only just got it when I came home - it was a late birthday present.” For some context there. “But once I’m really good I’ll show you!! And I can even teach you!” |

Maybe she was just a good friend. But she had to draw the line somewhere. At his suggestion she volunteer to hold who-knew-what kind of animal (she hadn't been paying close attention), she shook her head, her blonde hair flinging about. "Absolutely not," she said firmly, trying to identify what he wanted her to even volunteer for. Ravens? Well, she supposed it could be worse than ravens. But luckily some others volunteered, so she was hopefully off the hook. She gave Carson a sheepish smile. If it was like...a cat, or rabbit, he could volunteer her for that. |
*pretend I quoted XD … phone post* MAGENTA! would have been good. Lisa liked magenta. She nodded in agreement and then her eyes widened when Remy just volunteered to go up. The Ravenclaw froze and just looked at the brave Gryffindor. What… why…. Why were they volunteering? She didn’t know why… but it probably would be FUN because Remy was fun. So Lisa would go with the punches and decided not to question going up and volunteering any further. It was nice that Remy didn’t complain about either V or Daniel because she had a few friends who didn’t like either one of them. So Lisa appreciated the simple comment about how comical it would be. She flashed a warm smile at Remy when the Gryffindor mentioned that they didn’t need any help because they were awesome. Lisa nodded affirmatively. “We are awesome and waaay cooler.” She’d still ask Claudine for help though. Claudine was smaaaaart. “I mentioned it to Jasper, Alfie, Lia, AND Serena,” she beamed. Lisa knew for a FACT that Jasper, Lia, and Alfie would let Remy sit with them. Serena probably would too but Lisa wasn’t sure how well Serena and Remy knew each other. “Dont worry. Havent told Scarlett yet… we won’t get chastised for our flowers.” She stuck her tongue out jokingly at that comment. Hehe. She’d tease Scarlett about that one day… Sure Lisa had been salty in the moment but Scarlett was watching out for the roses. “I should mention it to Atlas and Aries but I haven’t seen them yet… Maybe you could go with one of them?” They were both housemates of Remy’s so Lisa imagined they probably (or hopefully) got along well. Lisa LOVED seeing her friends happy and excited because it made her HAPPY and EXCITED! So when Remy excitedly agreed to come try out, Lisa couldn’t help but clap her hands enthusiastically. She stopped clapping after Remy had mentioned the school thing, of course. “Yeah… the play was an experience but.. the rehearsals were good! And no one got hurt. Serena saved the day!” Lisa knew she’d be safe anywhere with Serena around. The Slytherin had her back. Lisa just hoped to be as good as her friend one day to return the favour. “I understand why you wouldn’t want to….” Lisa would still audition nevertheless. She wasn’t going to let anything come between her and the STAGE. Even crazy Healers, candles, BREAD, and bruises! Her questions were to gain intel. Lisa liked learning information. It was an asset. One that could be valued and traded :shifty: Oh! Her sister was going to be a Healer too! “NO WAY! My brother wants to be a Healer too! He’s one year younger than she is. Noah’s his name. He’s going off to school this year. Took a gap year to travel but brought back plenty of gifts for me.” Maybe their siblings could be friends!!!! Like Minjae and Noah. If Anjya and Noah were friends, then they could have their older siblings drive them for get togethers and more! And they would t be upset about it because they’d be hanging out with their friend too. Brilliant? Brilliant. Lisa was quite chuffed with herself. “I’m looking forward to it!” she beamed because guitar sounded awesome and then suddenly…. Someone was pointing at them. The lady was pointing at them. Lisa looked quickly to Remy to see if they would bow out. When it became clear that they weren’t (which was quick because Lisa knew how quickly her friend had volunteered), she sighed and took her friend’s hand and stepped forward. “Reporting for duty, uh… ma’am!” |
Remy and Lisa! Great, she had two volunteers! "Thanks so much! Now, here are some weighted balls," Pippa said to the girls, handing them about four balls each, colorful squarish-roundish objects about the size of golf balls. [b]"Now, while I distract Troy and Cressie, I'd like you to go around the area and hide these balls in different places. Not completely hidden where you can't see them at all, and definitely not in people's bags or pockets or anything. Just tucked beside or on top of things. And give me a shout when you're finished.[b]" Pippa smiled encouragingly, then turned back to her ravens. "And while the girls are doing that, let me show you how smart Balder is." Pippa set the large white raven down on another perch and, reaching into one pocket, pulled out a raven treat. "I'm going to offer him this piece of food, like I've done many times before at home." Pippa held onto one end of the treat and held the other out toward the raven. "Here, Balder, here's one of your treats!" Balder sat calmly and did nothing. "Look, its your favorite," Pippa said coaxingly. But no matter how temptingly she presented the treat, the white raven remained firm. Turning to the audience, Pippa said, "Balder knows from past experience that he has a choice between getting a treat right away, but that if he's willing to wait a bit, he'll get a better one. And so he almost always waits. And he has marvelous self control, doesn't he? Better than I do!" Pippa here reached into her other pocket and pulled out some sort of rectangular, key-like object. "But Balder doesn't just get the special treat by just waiting, he has to solve a puzzle to get the good stuff. This key, if it's pushed into the hole in this box," and here Pippa gestured to the chest she'd set out on the stool, "will unlock it and Balder can get three treats instead of just one. Watch what he does." Pippa set the key on the palm of one hand and the raven treat on the palm of the other and held them both out toward Balder the Raven. He immediately reached out, picked up the key with his beak, and gently set off from the perch and glided over to the stool holding the chest, where he dropped the key into a hole in the top and pushed it in. The lid of the chest sprang open immediately and Balder hopped onto the edge of the box and proceeded to devour his treats. "Ravens are really intelligent, as I've said. They can remember things and learn. They'll also remember people who are nice or mean to them, so if you want to make friends with any you see out of doors, try giving them some peanuts or raisins or dried fruit, and you can become their best friend!" Leaving Balder to his justly-won treats, Pippa turned back to soothe the rather jealous pair of black crows as she looked around the area to see if her volunteers were finished hiding the balls. |
