Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight Best thing about this feast was that Bug was no longer one of those nervous first years waiting to be sorted while everyone in the world watched. Worst thing about this feast was that Bug was no longer one of those nervous first years waiting to be sorted while everyone in the world watched.
That was the thing about being a second year. He was totally grown now. He knew the castle and the grounds and was comfortable in the place and all. But, like, there was nothing special about second year. From what he could glean from how other kids treated him, he was basically still a first year with less prestige. These eleven year olds didn't know how good they had it.
Still, Bug was nothing if not gracious. Like when a new Ravenclaw, a boy, came to join their table, and he grinned at him and nodded in agreement when the girl welcomed him to Ravenclaw. No point saying it again. "I'm Bug," he added, by way of greeting. "Like the bug. Second year."
And speaking of bugs, was Miles here yet? It had been a million years since Bug had bothered hung out with him, and they had a lot to catch up on. Craning his neck, Bug peered up and down the table, trying to spot that telltale mop of dark hair. _____ TJ wasn't late, actually. A wizard was never late, et cetera, et cetera. He'd just slipped away briefly to duck into the loo before the feast, then made a mad dash back to the Great Hall to try and get there before the Sorting Ceremony. And then there had been a whole thing involving a suit of armour that had somehow ended up in pieces on the floor, and he'd had to put it all back together again, and that had been so interesting he'd sort of got a little carried away looking at all the parts.
Anyway, somewhere around here was a very wonky looking suit of armour, which may have had its arms on back to front. Don't even worry about it.
The upshot of this was that TJ had, in fact, missed the start of the Sorting, and the worst part was that he couldn't exactly surreptitiously enter the Hall at his great height of 6'5". So he just... didn't bother trying to sneak. Just strolled in and took his place along the table wherever there was a space. Pure seventh year 'own the place' vibes. "Nice night for it!" he told the table at large, glancing towards the enchanted ceiling as he automatically reached for his empty goblet, expecting to find pumpkin juice which obviously wasn't even there yet. Bad idea. Uncoordinated at the best of times, let alone when he wasn't looking what he was doing, TJ misjudged and immediately knocked it flying. Fortunately it was empty, but it managed down the table and into several other goblets with a series of jarring CLANG!s. Like an impromptu game of skittles. "Oops! My bad!" TJ hurried to try and straight up the silverware (goldware?)... and immediately sent two more goblets CLANG!ing to the floor.
So much for not disturbing the ceremony. |
