Landon had noticed him before the pudding did.

Hard not to, really. The cane, the pace, the kind of presence that suggested a man who had long since earned the right to take his time. Landon lingered a few steps back, plate in hand, watching in that quiet, assessing way of his. Not intrusive. Just… taking stock.

Missa’s choice, he thought, not for the first time. And, as always, the verdict sat somewhere in the middle. He moved forward anyway.

“Minister,” Landon greeted, voice easy, familiar without overstepping. “Didn’t expect to find you negotiating with dessert this early in the day.”

Landon’s expression didn’t change much, old instincts, well-practiced and patient, rising to the surface without fuss - ones he knew when to ignore. “Careful,” he added, stepping in just enough to close the distance, his tone still conversational. “It’s usually around the second warning things decide to get creative.”

A slight tilt of his head toward the misbehaving spread.

“Mind if I?”

He didn’t reach for his wand immediately. Not yet. Just watching the movement, the rhythm of it, like he was listening to something just beneath the surface.

Then, almost as an afterthought, he added: “Missa would be disappointed if I let dessert take you out.” he smiled, polite as ever - “Though I imagine you’d argue it was worth it.”
