Cat had seen the ducks from afar a few times. Finally, after she finished her classes on this beautiful day (she was worried that the weather would turn for the worst sooner rather than later), she made her way across the grounds to the duck pond.
As she approached, the ducks were all milling about doing their (presumably) important duck things. Cat sat herself down right on the grass, a fair distance away from any of the ducks, and watched for several long moments while they moved around. Then she reached into her bag, ignoring the books and homework she probably should be addressing now, and pulled out a hunk of lettuce. She began to meticulously shred it into bits that she deemed small enough for the ducks to eat, but large enough to look appealing to them.
As she did so, one particular duck began to move closer to her. A smile formed at her lips. She didn't make eye contact with the duck, fearing that it would scare it, and instead tossed a bit of lettuce its way. "Nice to meet you," she said, working to keep her voice gentle through her excitement, "I'm Cat. Not a cat, though. Don't worry." In case it couldn't tell.
