So...this prompt was a journey

After staring at artists' renditions of cubism for entirely too long and ultimately accepting that it’s an art style that just does not come naturally to me, I considered switching gears and drawing a mermaid in a Minecraft style — especially since I'd just taken the boys to see that movie the other day. Six attempts later (all of which I hated), I scrapped that idea too.

Next up: pixel art. I spent the better part of an hour carefully drawing a literal grid in my sketchbook and started blocking out the beginnings of a mermaid... only to decide I didn’t love that direction either.

Eventually, I pivoted to a stained glass concept and finally found a rhythm I liked. After a few sketches, I landed on a shape that felt right, and I genuinely had fun with the linework and letting loose with the colors. This is probably the most markers I've used for any of the MerMay prompts so far!
