No, an intro and a retreat would by far be the better option. Or maybe even making Logan do the introduction and then all three guys could bond. He was still at least less than Vera was herself.

But that wasn't hard.

Her question had not meant to be a trap and she certainly hope he didn't feel like it was. She was truly curious, and the face she had as she listened was hopefully enough to convey that. Couldn't depend entirely on pets for comfort? Well... why though? "I don't know, I think pets are a good option for comfort though. They don't ask questions, they don't judge you or are surprised if you cry, they just... exist with you. Humans I think get too caught up in wanting to know the 'what' and how to fix things. Pets don't do that." Was she guilty of the wanting to fix things? Absolutely. But truthfully, she didn't know if her friends or siblings would be. She was very careful to keep all of her own emotions other than hyperactivity locked tight. She'd slipped a bit in the last term, but she was trying to rein that back in. "But.. it's not like we could have asked them if they'd want to make that trade though. What if they would have preferred to live alone and separate?" She could see his point and she didn't disagree, but it was hard to know if that's what all the creatures had wanted. Poachers? Her face screwed up in disgust but she gave a nod of her head. "Yeah, they are the worst of the worst. They don't even want creatures for their companionship, but for their resources." It was sad.

"We thought so. When we first got him it was hard to remember the difference between the two birds so... we made him technically both." Probably one of the smartest decisions she'd ever be involved in, if she was honest. "Your dad's name is Mordred? That's a really cool name! You absolutely should have named your owl after him. Sir Mordred especially sounds so distinguished." And he had a bearded dragon!? Her eyes went wide at that and her smile lit up a little more. "That sounds SO cool! I hear they're really good pets too. Loyal. Have you found that to be true?" Crups were adorable but they had to be the least exciting of the bunch for her. "It sounds like your family really likes animals!"

Whatever the case may be, Mackenzie was open to meeting people this time around. He'd had enough brooding and judging to last him a lifetime, in fact, he'd like to think he's got that locked down for himself to be of use to him in the future. But for now, acquaintances at least are welcome. How would he know who to trust if he didn't get acquainted first in the first place, yes?

"Perhaps you haven't met the right people to comfort you... yet," he said quietly, giving her a proverbial nudge to not place all of her eggs in one basket. "I'm not going to question that, creatures are the best when it comes to giving us comfort... but to me, they are a means to help us not lose our sanity completely. A distraction, if you will. But we will still need fellow humans to help us with our inner conflicts and emotions. One only has to find the right people for that." he said looking at Vera and then back to the green snake. For a boy who's been surrounded by animals all his life, he would know this to be true. "Someone you could really, really trust." Mackenzie could sense that Vera just might be afraid of her own emotions... probably she saw her vulnerability as a weakness, and Mackenzie understood the dilemma. Not everyone was to be trusted anyway. "I really wouldn't know though if creatures wanted to live on their own. I mean, there are some who do approach humans for help... and they aren't domesticated even. So I would suppose mutual trust and respect have to be established. Leave wild animals alone, and take care of domesticated ones. It should be that simple."

Mackenzie chuckled, "That's really very clever. It can go both ways for most people." Raven the Crow, Crow the Raven? Yeah, either way, it works. As for his owl, well, he couldn't really reverse the damage done. The screech owl apparently will only respond to Sir Mordred... not Mord, or Mordy, Sir Mords... and whatever name he could come up with. His owl owned the name like it was no one's business. "That is an understatement. Our house just might pass off as a zoo at this point," he said, smiling. "My dad's a dragonologist, so he's technically into the creatures business. Good thing my mum's brilliant with her charms spellwork. She keeps the house looking like... well, a house. For humans." Were bearded dragons loyal? "Morpheus is more... territorial, I would say. He'd fight another bearded dragon around if he could," he said, carefully pulling out a sleeping reptile from his hoodie's pocket. "He just ate, so he's been out for a while now," he scratched under the chin of the bearded dragon to try and rouse it from its sweet after-snacks-slumber.
