The sight of the room was surprisingly surprising. While he knew that his kids were going to decorate regardless, he expected ... well, he expected chaos. He wouldn't at all have been taken aback if they had walked in on decorations being askew, the dog eating the cake, and the kids fighting in the middle of it all. But, instead, everything seemed to be in place.

And there were all of the 'happy birthday' shouts and the flying on confetti. Frankie had a feeling that all four of them had been waiting all day to do that.

"Happy birthday, love," he told his wife, giving her a smooch on the lips before letting go of her hand. It was only a matter of seconds before one of the kids came in for a hug while the confetti was falling. And, as if on cue, there Nova was. The Auror took this as a sign to sneak off to the kitchen and grab the cake.

What was the fuss about? The eye roll from Nova and then being elbowed back by Bryony were totally unnecessary. It wasn't his fault that they were standing in his spot, which they hadn't actually discussed since they had been so busy putting up the decorations and getting everything else ready. But he definitely had telepathically told them.

He was going to remember that, Bryony. An elbow back was going to happen sometime in the future. Of course, not now. Confetti was falling (even though it would have been a perfect distraction to elbow a certain sibling), their parents were there, and it was their Mum's day. They had to be on their best behaviour now.

Logan didn't fling himself at their mother. He, being thirteen, was too cool for such things. But he would, simply because it was her birthday, allow her to give him a hug and even a cheeky peck if she wanted. "Did we surprise you? We've kept this under lock and key for WEEKS." It was amazing how Bryony managed to keep her mouth shut about it.
