Mercer had to tear himself away from standing right in front of the tank and making faces back at the creature inside. He knew that the professor had given clear directions to sit down and get right to work, but LOOK AT THE SILLY FACES! The fourth year stuck his tongue out one last time before scurrying to his seat.
He was good with creatures, so this one didn't even require him to look through his text for any answers. Mercer's father (and brother) did animal photography, and Marcus Orion Branxton's first published book had a photo of one of these, caught right at the moment the water was spilling from the indentation on its head. It was a sort of famous photo, honestly, at least to Mercer's mind.
He drew several silly faces on his parchment before writing "Kappa".
