Hope had been fairly quiet in class today; she was afraid to appear stupid before the class because of her lack of knowledge about the Muggle world (or the greater Wizarding world, for that matter). She still felt her little hand-carved cup-and-ball game was the best, but it did seem a bit homely compared to some of the toys her classmates mentioned. And this stick thing--Hope had no idea what it was. Not something to make fence post holes with, apparently, judging from the chuckles her answer got from her fellow students. And even when Professor Feirgrund explained it, Hope didn't feel she knew much more about it--she'd never heard of a 'pogo stick,' it sounded like some sort of foreign device.

But balancing on it--now that was something Hope could do! All those years of balancing on the log across the creek paid off now, and before long Hope was giggling and elated as she stood up on the strange device. She felt like a giant on top of this! And now--for a try at a run down the hall!
