Should he pull his arm back in and pretend he hadn't asked?
Except then the offer was being accepted and Tavion relinquished the candy to the other before smiling again. "You're welcome." At least... he was pretty sure that's what the word meant that the other had used. A look of puzzlement crossed his face, suspicious? Of him? After years of being told he was the softest of the Sawyers, it was interesting to hear anyone say something like that - even if it also seemed to be in jest. "My parents never really drilled that lesson into us. My dad was usually the person handing out food to strangers wherever we went." Which ... sounded even odder now that he'd said that out loud. "Your parents were probably wiser." Taking things from strangers often ended up going well, in all fairness. Though it was not usually sweets, and that was the thing that seemed to be advised against taking. Maybe it was because sweets were the most tempting thing you could offer a child. He couldn't quite remember, though he'd been taken with macarons since he knew what they were.
Gerard raised an eyebrow. "A philanthropist?" he offered, curious about why someone would seemingly give away food to strangers. The only other thing he could think was a chef, though a chef that offered food for free was surely not a good business head. As for his own parents being wise, Ged shrugged and plucked a lens from the shelf, turning it over in his hands.
