"Hey, Maggie," Kins offered the bird a halfhearted wave as she glanced over her way. Making a mental note to avoid her the next time she was around and Ashley wasn't. If there was one thing Kinsay did not want, it was to be bitten by an owl. Um. Anyway.

She lifted her eyes again as Ashley spoke, laughing softly, though it wasn't entirely genuine. "Yeah. People aren't usually around this time of day." Kinsay only knew because she had started making a habit of hiding away and writing secret letters when her heart ached the most. But everything was fine, really. "Who are you writing to?" She found herself asking, simply to alleviate some of the awkward tension present between them. It had nothing to do with Ash, of course, but. But just. Yeah.
