SPOILER!!: Mini activity responses
As the students set about their work, Norman began to slowly roam the room, pausing every so often to observe their progress. No sooner had he moved away from the front of the room did a loud BANG cause his dark head to whip around in the direction of the sound. “Are you alright, Mr. Yoon?” he asked, eyeing the boy with mild concern. He didn’t look injured, so he focused on figuring out what had gone wrong with that spell attempt. The intent was clearly there, as the boy had managed to produce a piece of wood even with an incomplete spell. Perhaps it was a problem with the wand work. “Try again. You can do it!”

Elsewhere, he saw Fox and Blaze team up and succeed in conjuring their firewood and starting their fire. “Excellent work, ladies,” he said with an approving smile as he passed. Blackthorne appeared to be getting on well with the firewood conjuring as well. “You too, Miss Blackthorne. Well done!” Changing directions, he noticed Mordaunt succeed at casting the spell nonverbally. Potter’s nonverbal attempts and success with Incendio didn’t go unnoticed either. He didn’t expect any of his students to attempt the spells nonverbally, but he had to admit he was impressed by their tenacity. “Great nonverbal spellwork, Mr. Mordaunt and Mr. Potter!”

As Norman reversed course to make his way back to the front, he paused to observe the elder Nam conjure driftwood and then twigs. The boy was getting closer with each attempt. Somehow he had a feeling that the third time would be the charm - or transfiguration, in this case. And he was right! “Excellent progress, Mr. Nam!” he said, positively beaming behind his scarf. The younger Nam appeared to be making great strides as well. He watched her first unsuccessful attempt and each subsequent more successful one with a small approving smile. “Nice work, Miss Nam!”

Standing at the front of the room once more, Norman addressed the class, “Your attention, please! If you aren’t done building your fire, you can go back to that in a minute. For now, we have another spell to learn…” He paused for a moment to allow time for the students to focus on him before continuing, “Sometimes, especially in climates like this, you’ll need more than fire for warmth. That’s where the blanket transformation spell comes in. The spell, as the name suggests, transforms its target into a blanket, cloak, curtain, or other large flat piece of fabric, depending upon the caster’s intent. While the spell works best with a fabric item, it can be used on any item.”

He allowed time for that information to sink in before going on, “To cast, we use the incantation Vestis, combined with a modifier depending upon the material we want the blanket to be. Vestis Cotone for a cotton blanket, Vestis Lectum for leather, and the variation we’ll be practicing today, Vestis Vellus for a wool blanket. To cast, say the incantation and make a curly-q wand movement like so…” He unwrapped the scarf from his face and held it up with one hand. With his other, he made the curly-q motion with his wand. “Vestis Vellus!” he said firmly. In an instant, a dark gray blanket replaced the scarf that was once in his hand. “Should you need to revert your blanket to its original form for any reason, use the reversion spell Reverto.” He demonstrated that spell by tapping the blanket and saying, “Reverto.”

Norman paused just long enough to rewrap his newly reverted scarf and make a new message appear midair in fiery red letters:

“For the next activity, you’ll be going on a rescue mission of sorts,” he said. “Scattered throughout the area are three groups of people - not real, just illusions - in need of fire, blankets, or both. Your job is to determine which they need and transfigure that thing for them. On a real outdoor excursion, I’d recommend using the buddy system. Since we’re technically still in the classroom, there’s no danger of you getting lost, so you may work alone if you wish.” With a wave of his wand, he revealed a box that had up until now been disillusioned at his feet. “I have some fabric squares up here for you to use to practice Vestis Vellus. If you want to challenge yourself, you may practice the other variations of the Vestis spell also, but it’s not required for the activity.”

“You may take some time to practice Vestis Vellus amongst yourselves before you set out. Likewise, you may also finish your campfire if you haven’t already done so. When you’re ready, roam the room and help any people you encounter. You have the rest of class, starting NOW!”

OOC: We’ve reached the main activity. For this, your character needs to:
1. Collect fabric square(s) from the box at the front of the room.
2. Wander the classroom’s snowy landscape either solo or with a partner/group. Along the way, they’ll encounter 3 illusions of people.
3. Determine what the people in the illusions need to keep warm (either a fire, blankets, or both)
4. Transfigure the item the illusion needs. (Focalia + Incendio or matches for fire; Vestis Vellus for blanket)

Your character may practice Vestis Vellus on their own before setting out or practice Vestis Cotone and/or Vestis Lectum in addition, if so desired. Neither are required for credit. Catching up is also still allowed. Please DO NOT rp for the illusions! I’ll be posting prompts throughout to move you along. You have ABOUT 72 HOURS for this activity!
