Jane waved back to Dylan Morgenstern, one of the chroniclers in her department who'd just greeted her before turning to respond to Conley, who'd just approached. "Conley!" she smiled warmly, holding out her gloved, free hand. He'd been the first Ministry employee to greet her at her first opening gala several years ago and she still had a soft spot in her heart for him. "Yes, I'm doing much better--ready to get back to some real work soon." Which was necessary now. Jane thought ruefully of the ruined experiment she'd left last year for what she thought would be just an hour. That was before something, or someone, attacked her over her tea in the break room. "Thanks so much to you all for visiting me in hospital."
Jane looked over his shoulder at her fellow unspeakable, Damian, who Conley had just been hailing a moment before he greeted her, wondering if he'd attracted the mortemist's attention. Jane still hadn't greeted her fellow Death Chamber worker, and she particularly wanted to pick his brain about a few things. |
