Old Bartholomew broke the surface of the lake in its centre, and glided towards the shallows. He waved his tentacles just above the water to attract the attention of anyone nearby and to beckon them closer, slow and polite but insistent all the same. Messages needed passing along, issues needed addressing.
Maya had not been expecting to see the squid at all. She had tried numerous times to catch a glimpse from her dorms as inspiration for her origami - it was a bit tricky trying to animate an origami squid for Evan and his friend without actually seeing the movements. So the girl had taken to taking a stroll by the lake between classes, assignments, tutoring and preparing Christmas gifts. This particular stroll, the Slytherin held her origami squid in a gloved hand, prepared to yet again not see Bartholomew.

But she did.

Not entirely too sure if she was just imagining the Giant Squid popping out of the lake or if it was real, she moved closer.

Was he... waving his tentacles?

She rubbed her eyes and kept moving closer. He was... definitely there. Was the squid dangerous? What if he dragged her into the depths of the lake? Maya had done enough reading to know it could be quite dangerous below the lake's surface. But still, curiosity got the best of her and standing a safe distance away from the squid, she tilted her head slightly. "Hey there," she said rather timidly, not sure if he could even understand her. "Are you alright?" Maybe the squid was hurt and that was why he had finally come to the surface? Did squids even like cold weather?

Strange.
