Violet had been torn between the assignments, not because they seemed appealing, but because she felt she was equally bad at both acting and drawing. But she remembered Claudine had once told her her art wasn't so bad, long ago in that Butterfly Garden. Just before Violet had been possessed by a ghost, which was probably why she'd buried the memory deep in her brain until now. And what with ghost possession, being imprisoned by pureblood fanatics, and getting drugged, Violet had not been working at it. But it was better than role-playing, so she gathered some art supplies and went at it.

It took her a while to think of an occasion where those particular five members of the Black family would have been together. Surely they had at some point in time, at some uncomfortable family dinner or something. Once she had the idea, it took her a while to execute it; she felt she had to outline it in pencil first, in case she made mistakes (she did), and then used charcoal to go over the lines.

What she came up with was the five Blacks at a formal dining table. Andromeda was seated on the left side between her sisters and was sitting looking down at her plate, because she had just announced she was going to marry Ted Tonks, a Muggle-born wizard. To her right, Narcissa had drawn away from her sister, a look of disgust on her face. On her right, Bellatrix had leaped up, shouting, and drawn her wand. Sirius Black, also shouting, had leaped up from the other side of the table and crossed over to grab the shoulder of Bellatrix's wand arm, protecting his cousin, while his brother Regulus, having overturned his wine glass, was staring at Andromeda with a horrified expression on his face.

Violet surveyed her drawing. Not too bad. Not too good, either, but you could at least tell who was who and what was going on, more or less. If only she could have written it out, instead of drawing it! Looking at the scene one more time before turning it in, Violet felt she understood perfectly why her mother had chosen to avoid such a scene and elope in the middle of the night.
