Brody couldn’t help but be so very disappointed that Kalen hadn’t gotten the chance to correct Zoryn. He noted that it wasn’t from the lack of trying. Then another thought occurred: maybe everyone would eventually wind up thinking that he indeed was Kalen’s boyfriend; and since they knew Kalen had a girlfriend, this would all make for some delicious drama. Brody smirked at that reasoning. What fun this might all turn out to be.
Brody’s interest perked up when Zoryn mentioned her wife. These were definitely the people he could bond with faster. “I’ll be thrilled to meet Faith,’’ the young man replied enthusiastically. He was quite sure that Faith was as pretty as Zoryn. “See you around then.’’ He gave the woman a cheerful smile, simply because he found that he liked her off the pitch as much as on the pitch.
He caught Kalen’s look, smiled still then turned his attention to Ms. Peggy. Kalen looked so flustered. It was all so adorable. Brody applauded along with the rest of the gathering at the appropriate times, having paid careful attention to the awardees. Soon enough it was time to dig into a delicious meal. Before he knew it, Kalen was bumping into him; not that he minded. “No worries,’’ he replied smoothly, letting his date snag the dish of rolls. He himself began selecting food to stack onto his plate. While he did so, he listened to all of the chatter going on. Here was a great opportunity to learn about the others whom he didn’t know that well.
The Coordinator had already dived into his own plate when Kalen directed the conversation on him. He quickly swallowed a mouthful of food then waved a hand airily. “Oh, don’t you bother with my boyfriend here. Pushing papers isn’t all that important.” Merlin knew the filing would be the death of him. There was more to be said but Kalen’s loud girlfriend arrived. Brody went back to eating. |
