Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Ash wasn't actually trying to manipulate Upstead. It was just... she kinda lowkey needed help. Like immediately. Your enemies weren't always enemies when you needed help. And she didn't hate Upstead very much anymore, because she had let that scar heal a little bit to make herself feel better. She didn't wanna think about why she hated them anymore.

She wasn't even sure she had called them Nem. Not that she had forgotten, but this whole interaction about bread was kinda hazy. Blurry almost. Like she had forgotten to wear her glasses. Which was weird, because she had good eyesight and good memory. You don't think about the bread. And the memory became more and more out of focus... she wasn't sure what she had asked them, or what they had said, or even if this was an interaction that happened in reality and not inside her head.

Somehow, she was at the closet again, and Mamie was just... holding stuffed animals. That wasn't very helpful. "Mamie, the stuffed animals go in the closet." She took a couple of them and put them in the closet. Helpfully.

Ash decided that she should work on calculators next. They could be stacked, and they didn't have wheels. A perfect thing to organize. She put them on a middle shelf (easy access!), taking up 1/3 or so of it.

Some might say that she had organizational skills. Ash would definitely say so.

Was that her partner in crime, Mr. vice president of the monarchy, the lord of divination, Kayne getting in trouble over there??? She took his side of course. She gave Schmoe the evil eye, but said nothing. It was only three points after all, and she doubted Kayne would want her to get in trouble over this. But. She was watching. Always.

Some might say that Schmoe was awful at discipline. And that included Ash. He had no presence. That's why everybody kept breaking the rules.

Ash drifted back towards her seat. Bread... she needed more bread. More bread. But there was no bread. It was vanished. Upstead must have done it. That made Ash feel weird inside. A combination of anger, guilt, and gratefulness. Mostly gratefulness. But also confusion. As usual, she just ignored those emotions. What mattered was that the bread was gone. She gave a silent nod of acknowledgement in Upstead's direction. Thank you. And Ash was not going to snitch on them. She hadn't even seen them do it, technically. So legally and formally, there really was no proof. But even if she had seen it, she wasn't going to tell anyone.

Ashley Fox was not exactly known to abide by the rules. Or the laws, actually. Arson was illegal.

Back to organizing.
