Unless the professor got them to take each others' Potions, then she would refuse.

Also, if they accidentally used something that wasn't a part of the person they were planning to turn into, it'd be terrible. Not only because one would be stuck as someone else that you didn't plan to for a while, if it was something that belonged to a non-human being, it could be catastrophic. Quite literally. And Catherine wouldn't want to take a trip to the Hospital Wing and possibly even to the Ministry because of a catastrophe. It was in the title of the Department her own mother worked at, so she was sure it probably happened a lot more often than one would think.

The thought sent shivers down her spine. Being stuck transformed as something catastrophic was not a good thing at all. Catherine didn't like the perspective of that one bit. And this Ravenclaw got stuck in her own head thinking of all the terrible things that could happen, hence her frown and staring into space.
Shreya briefly found herself wondering if her question had stumped the students. Judging from the far-off look in the Ravenclaw's eyes, perhaps the topic was too complex. Or too disturbing, given what had happened at the beginning of the term with the Polyjuice Potion. Catherine usually was pretty pensive, though, so maybe she was just thinking through the options.

Varma was right. She would enjoy being Newt for a day, she was sure. Anyway. The fifth year was very intrigued by some of the other answers provided. Interesting choices.., and some surprising ones. Then again, everyone had their own choices, right?

Claudine raised her right hand again. “Some animal hairs are similar to a human’s at first glance so there’s always a chance of mistakenly using animal hair instead of human hair.’’ This particular potion was not meant to be used to change into an animal.
Ah, yes. Shreya was hoping for this answer. "Very good, Claudine. Polyjuice potion is only intended for human use. The consequences can be devastating—and very difficult to reverse—if you accidentally use an animal's essence." She had heard (and seen) too many cases of irreversible damage from people attempting to turn into creatures with the potion. Students would be wise to never attempt it.

Whatever. He was like, 12 years old, so he could jog off.

The professor really didn't challenge her on wanting to become a Dark Wizard, huh? That was probably wise. This second question, though... this was child's play, and Bernie wasn't even decent at Potions most days. Her teenagery attitude definitely came across in her tone this time.

"The first and most dangerous thing that could go wrong when you take Polyjuice Potion," she answered, hand laaaaaazily raised, "is that you could be discovered as a fraud for using it to pretend to be someone else. If you're not smart enough to time your drinking and re-dosing properly, you could, in fact, be discovered in the process of, say, taking over an entire institution. But maybe some people in this room are smart enough to time their potions things just right."

And yeah, it was a kinda obvious answer. And she was a kinda obvious Gryffindor. Or maybe not. So what. Bernie crossed her arms after her snarky little response and settled back in her seat, her ever-present frown deeeeeeeepening as she looked to Nemesis. She had a feeling they were going to have something to say, even if little Atlas did not.
Sure, it was an obvious answer, but it was an important one nevertheless, which was why Bernie got a nod of approval in response. "True. Once the potion begins to wear off, it fades quickly. You'd run the risk of everyone finding out that you're an impostor."

He looked down at the table nervously then had to recoil because the smell of the potion got to his nose again.
Good yes moving on. This was better. It was good to move on to another question. Dangers of the Polyjuice Potion? Well again. It had to be like cooking right? But with more intense side effects to drinking the stuff. "Could it be bad if you drank too much of it at once? Like drinking a whole carton of milk without stopping to breathe." It really sounded more like an answer to give for all potions honestly, but it answered the question right?
Hmm. Now that was an interesting response. "Any potion can be dangerous if you drink too much of it. Not only could it cause vomiting, but it could cause unintended or irreversible effects," Shreya replied, somewhat pointedly. Not that anyone would want to go chugging Polyjuice potions. Unless you were turning into someone spectacular, the taste left much to be desired.

They turned their head to look at her properly now, more than a glance, the first steady stare they'd given her since before she'd been locked away. As it happened, they did have something to say, but not about her answer, not about the question, or Polyjuice Potion at all. Nor about that Stover kid's previous answer - though he should have known it was never going to happen. It did concern him in another way, however.

With no indication as to what they were about to do, Nem drew their wand from its holster before wordlessly sending a spell each towards Yoon and Stover from their spot at the back of the room. Simple stuff, really, hexes which would send both boys briefly face first into their desks with a good amount of force, as though slammed forwards. A shove for a shove.

Nem calmly got to their feet, casually reholstering their wand, and turned their attention to the professor. They spoke politely, but equally as coolly as she had spoken to them.

"Sorry to interrupt, Professor Varma, but it seems I wasn't clear enough. Do you see this pin?" Nem tapped their long, spidery index finger on the item in question, a pin shaped into a hand holding a wand with lightning issuing from its tip, which they'd fixed to the front of their robes. "I'm wearing this because I am a member of the Inquisitorial Squad, and helping to maintain order." As they'd said: one never knew who might be watching. Funny, how few people failed to really think about that, despite constant reminders. "It should be obvious by now, that leniency and favouritism towards muggle-born students is not tolerated, it isn't a choice for you to make. Falling in line is expected of everyone. First and last warning, professor; I'm just as capable as the rest of the Squad." It was clear that the hints weren't really doing the trick, but spelling things out over and over was just so crass.

Now that they'd said what they wanted to say, Nem retook their seat once more, graciously allowing the lesson to continue. No worries about return fire; one yell was enough for back-up, and then it wouldn't be Nem who suffered the consequences.

He continued to try and keep the smell of the Polyjuice Potion from gently wafting into his nose so he scooched in his seat back just a bit.

And just as he did He felt his face go forward at a rather fast speed right into the corner of the table. Not flat onto it's surface... the corner. The painful corner. "OW!" He yelped as he grabbed at his forehead. Same spot where the slightest bit of Liar was now fading away. The pain was sharp and he felt his forehead throbbing like he had a painful migraine without the migraine part of it. It was like someone stuck a heart next to his brain and said Eh good enough

There was a nice small gash right where it met the corner of the table too. A bit of blood was trickling down his forehead. Some of it sliding into his lips from the wound. So now he had a taste of iron and that awful smell.

Oh also...Moose was MAD like MAD MAD!! He had repressed it so much since getting tossed into that room, it was so much easier to be compliant and scared. Being made to think he was a worthless piece of trash and he believed it. Moose was an ANGRY worthless piece of trash. He was going to ignite. Literal Garbage Fire. He shot up from his seat and sent Nemesis an intense glare. He wasn't sure he could ever get this mad again. "You can go take your shiny new pin and choke on it!"
Moose was seething.

Had he been hexed? Right next to her?! Was Moose okay? No, he was bleeding?

Mamie pulled a clean handkerchief out of her bag to help with the bleeding, but then Moose stood up. She tugged on the second year Slytherin's robes. "Moose, sit back down," she whispered urgently. Even if Nemesis really wasn't part of the Inquistorial Squad, they weren't in The Room which meant they weren't Muggle-born, which meant Moose standing up to them was a bad idea.

"I think he's got a concussion!" she declared to the room, Varma, and that fifth year. "He's confused! Doesn't know what he's saying!" Yes, that could surely account for his standing up for himself. Surely the Hood Squad...or Nemesis... wouldn't retaliate for something he did or said while allegedly concussed.

And maybe she should take him to the hospital wing?

"Being a traitor doesn't make you special, it just makes you evil. You're just like every other creepy person in a hood who tortures children. No need to flex on us." They were special, actually. They were a traitor, unlike the rest of the squad. And in the opinion of Ashley Fox, a traitor was one of the worst things you could be.

Hearing them get called a traitor made her visibly cringe, others were going to get hurt because they couldn't keep their mouths shut. Whether Nem was a traitor or not, she didn't really know... sure going to the other side and hurting others wasn't something she herself could handle but maybe THEY knew what they were doing.

Sighing quietly under her breath, Dahlia slowly shifted her attention back onto Professor Varma. Great, now she wanted to know about potential dangers of the potion that was currently bubbling away in the cauldron beside her table. Way to make her even more nervous and cautious about consuming it. "Well... umm.. could taking the potion to much or too often cause problems?" she asked raising her hand. Like the answer to her previous question this was the first thing that came to her mind.

My.

Their great leader had not been wrong when he said some of the children did not and would not learn. Some questioned him, though not openly, on his decision to leave them alive and during this potions class, they did so all the more. It was of course the usual suspects. Always.

The Nemesis child was to be the transition, the first warning to settle before it got more severe. They bore the pin. To not respect it, was to not respect them. These children sealed their own fate here today.

With a few scribbles on paper, the hood figures ducked out of the dungeon classroom. They would be back.

He had always thought that their was something off about them but now that they literally announcing to everyone in the classroom that they were part of Rosier’s stupid fan club, Minjae’s suspicion had been confirmed. And then as all the stress over the past year, all of his anger, his hatred for the Neo-Alliance was rushing through him and he …..laughed.

It was humorless though. Void from any positivity that was usually associated with laughter as he took out his wand and pointed it at the Slytherin. He did not use it though. ”Attacking a CHILD, Upstead?” he said, raising his voice as he glared daggers at them. ”Behind his back?!” he wanted to check up on the little muggleborn but he also did not want to take his eyes off of Nemesis even if they had pocketed their wand and pointed to their stupid badge. ”Ah! i guess you fit right in then don’t you? Wordlessly, a piece of parchment was extended to him. Wordlessly, he took it. Lucien read the parchment, his posture straightening by the time he got to the end.

This...this really wasn't working, was it? Keeping them for bargaining chips, they were devaluing by the second. The Headmaster decided he would handle this one himself, accio-ing a few...useful things from his office before proceeding into the potions classroom.

"Varma." He said curtly. The man would deal with her later for being unable to maintain order in her own class. There were methods she could've used long before it escalated.

Silently, the Headmaster moved to the front of the room, a near palpable chill coming off him as he passed by the students. The report was pretty clear but he would like to ensure he got in it full. Rather than look at any of the aforementioned names, Lucien looked to Upstead. "What happened? Names, I want full names." He would show them what continued defiance got them.

With each student that spoke, Nem looked around the room at those who made themselves known, giving each a stare as flat and dispassionate as the last. The only thing they weren't sure of was whether these kids were seeking out a retaliation from them, or making sorely misguided attempts to appeal to their... what? Feelings? Conscience? Evidently they really had been fooled.

Nem didn't reply. Not to Trent's absurd claim, or the accusations of 'traitor' or 'coward' - again, fooled was right - none of it. Not a word touched them, nothing moved them, no part of it angered them whatsoever. Nem had seen the other members of the Squad in the room, and made note of them leaving. No, no reason to act further. This was covered.

By the Big Man, of course. Nem turned to him when he entered, and wasted no time in replying. "Started with some shoving in the doorway by those muggle-borns, sir," they said, pointing out Yoon and Stover, easily marked by the nosebleed and head gash. "I handled it, then reminded Professor Varma she should be dealing with them properly. Identified myself as part of your Inquisitorial Squad, and several students disrespected that. Verbal outbursts, insults. A couple of repeat offenders too." Perhaps he knew some of the names already, but Nem was happy to provide all the same. "William Stover. Minjae Yoon. Kale Trent. Ashley Fox."

Both had seen time and time again what value they held as mudbloods and still chose to make themselves targets--presenting their necks as it were.

He did not address the named students immediately. Instead, he turned to face the entire class. "Observe. I'm about to show you what happens when you've become more a nuisance than I care to deal with any longer. Upstead is a member of the Inquisitorial Squad. Disrespect and defiance to them, is defiance to my will. Defiance has no place here." Something he did not think he would have to repeat for the millionth time.

Well.

He was done repeating.

"Varma, you will join Williamson." Not a discussion, not something he cared to discuss. "The squad will escort you at the end of your lesson. If a child is better at doing your job than you are, you're fast outliving your use."

And to the trouble makers. "You've brought this on yourselves and have no one to blame but your own stupidity and inability to know when and what to speak. No ideas self-preservation. No care for what might happen to those around you as a consequence of YOUR poor choices. Reckless idiots are not needed in the new world. You have proven you cannot think beyond whatever emotion pops into your head. Your lack self control--some of you on a near continuous basis. I have just the thing for you."

The man flicked his wand at each in rapid succession.

She barely noticed the Hood Squad leaving, but there was no ignoring the appearance of Headmaster Rosier.

She immediately backed away from Moose and sat down in her seat, no longer claiming he had a concussion. Sorry, Helga Hufflepuff. There was a limit to this thirteen-year-old's loyalty.

She was momentarily worried that Nemesis would name her as a class disruptor by association, but breathed a silent sigh of relief when he just named the...instigators of trouble. Whew. She did not know much about the fifth year, but they either hadn't heard her trying to stick up for Moose, or they knew she was trying to get Moose to just accept his punishment for being Muggleborn.

But then there was black smoke? And Moose was gone? Ashley was gone?? MINJAE was gone?!? She did not care as much about Kale Trent, but she noticed the puff of smoke where he had been too.

Her breath caught. Were all her friends dead now? She was too scared to cry, though that might change once Rosier left. She turned her attention back to the headmaster, then the potions master, then the headmaster again. Varma was going to be in The Room too? It was certainly getting crowded in there. Taking a shaky breath, Mamie looked back down at the cauldron nearest her. Polyjuice potion. Hadn't Varma asked a question? Mamie couldn't remember the question. She returned her attention back to Rosier, since Varma was clearly no longer in charge.

At Nemesis's spellcasting, Shreya instinctively drew her own wand, shrieking a shocked "Excuse me!" as she did so. But before she could even point it at the Slytherin, she thought better of it, slipping it back into her holster instead. Yes, she knew that they were in cahoots with Rosier and the Squad. That much was clear from the pin, and from their behavior, honestly. Shreya glared at them, a retort brewing at their sheer nerve and disrespect. Yet still, in the midst of her rage, she still felt a hint of sadness for Nemesis. What the Slytherin must be going through to bow to such a cult. They must be quite disturbed in the head. Or perhaps Rosier was just getting better at his brainwashing tactics.

She pursed her lips and breathed in heavily through her nose, trying to center herself. As humiliating as it was to be bossed around by a student, she knew that there was nothing she could do about it. Unless she wanted to get herself killed. So she simply nodded curtly at Nem, poised to ignore their comments once again and simply move on with the lesson. But that was before things took a turn for the worse.

"Excuse me! Mr. Trent! Mr. Stover!" she shouted, her voice louder than it had been all term. "This sort of behavior will not be tolerated. Take your seats at once." Anything to make them sit down. Did they not realize what their outburst would result in? But before she could issue a detention, or some other form of Neo-Alliance-approved torture, Ashley and Minjae were joining in as well. And the Inquisitorial Squad was surely observing them. "EXCUSE ME! We will have order in this classro-" Her second reprimand was interrupted, however, by the arrival of Rosier. Shreya's posture straightened as she clasped her hands together nervously. "Hello, Headmaster. Welcome. We were just discussing—"

It seemed her introduction was no use. The Headmaster had things to say. She stared, wordlessly, at the orders coming from the Headmaster's mouth. Joining Williamson. In the dungeons. In the prison. Her own mouth fell open in protest, but she forced herself to close it, biting the inside of her cheek to keep from tearing up. How would she ever protect the students when she was locked away?

Her expression only grew more disturbed at Rosier's next move. The students. They had.....vanished. But where? Was this a new type of torturous curse? Shreya wanted to scream. To cry. To throw all the hideous curses she could think of at the horrific man standing in front of her. Her eyes stung as she realized that it would never be of any use. "Yes, Headmaster," she said instead, her voice small and barely audible. "I appreciate your dedication to restoring....order."

Shreya needed to get through the rest of this lesson. She couldn't fall apart now. Not when the students looked as if they had just witnessed a murder. And perhaps they did.

The professor took in a hesitant breath. "Now, uh, we will be...moving on....." Shreya was rarely speechless, but she was now. She racked her brain, trying to think back to what the students were talking about before the interruption. "If anyone else would like to speak out of turn or display such disrespect, you have seen the consequences. Do not be next." She channeled all of her energy into sounding stern. Whatever had just happened to Mr. Yoon, Ms. Fox, Mr. Stover, and Mr. Trent, she did not want to happen to anyone else. Nor did she want anyone else to get a sentence in the prison.

She cleared her throat, trying her best to move on. "You all brought up some important points about the Polyjuice Potion. Taking it isn't exactly a walk in the park, which is exactly why it is so heavily regulated, both at Hogwarts and within the Wizarding World. There are ethical and physical considerations surrounding the brew." Shreya felt dizzy. Disoriented. But she pressed herself to continue. "Many things can go awry. It is not designed to be used on creatures of half-breeds. If you take too much of it or too little, the potion can last too long or wear off too quickly. It could also leave you with permanent damage." She glanced into the cauldron on her own desk, hoping that the steam would disguise the tears pricking her eyelids. "And you've all seen how tricky it is to brew. It is time-consuming and very particular. One wrong measurement will soil your entire solution."

Shreya had planned to discuss the legality and ethics of the potion next, but she honestly couldn't bring herself to continue on with her lecture. Her voice was getting shakier by the second, as she pondered her own impending sentence in The Room. And what had just happened to those students. She would have to save an ethical discussion for another time. If she was ever let out of the prison again. "Let's get some practice, shall we? If you wish to be successful with the Polyjuice Potion, it is important to be knowledgeable about who you are turning into. It's not enough to simply look like someone. You must fully inhabit their persona. And that means learning their mannerisms, inflections, and daily habits."

She took a seat at her desk, perhaps for the last time, and looked at her students tiredly. "Please pair up with someone. You will be interviewing each other about the things that make them, well, them. You should ask about their routines, habits, favorite things. You can observe their mannerisms, their voices, and their movements. Take notes on anything you observe. Remember that this is would all part of a successful Polyjuice performance." Again, not that Shreya was actually advocating for the students to start tricking people with the Polyjuice Potion. It was not allowed to be used at Hogwarts, anyway. But she wanted to show how difficult it was to pull off.

Once she had set the class off on their activity, she rested her chin on her hands. She was feeling feeble.

OOC: Phew, sorry for being a little late. Wanted to give everyone some time to catch up. Anyway, it's time for the mini activity. To get points for this part of the lesson, please RP your character asking another student about themselves. Be as creative as you want with your questions and answers! We will be moving on about 48 hours.
