"Oh, no, you're.... right on time," he replied to his colleague lightly, noticing his fidgeting and pulling one of his own hands out of his pocket so he could...jovially...awkwardly... pat Adam on the shoulder. Just the distraction he needed, huh. David let his hand linger on his fellow Unspeakable's shoulder for a beat too long, perhaps as an extended signal that he should stay, really stay, and join their discussion.
"Adam, what did you need? I'm sorry, Admiral, I'll answer you in just a second." David was careful to keep his tone light and casual this entire time.
