Muggle-borns and Fin! books and cleverness | i like you a latte Whew okay, his fingers were back. Not all of them, but enough for him to hold his wand. Carson bent down to pick up the wand he dropped and felt a gust of wind over his head as a jet of red light flew over him ... and hit the young child he promised to protect.
It was a bad time for him to freeze, yet he stared at the unconscious girl for a moment as spells and dragons flew overhead in complete chaos. He was crouched in the position where he was picking up his wand. He heard one of the Vipertooths cry in pain, then almost fell over from a heavy rush of wind which meant the twin brother was flapping down, closer to them, and he was still here trying to catch his breath. He was vaguely aware of Minjae telling him about murderous fanatics and a younger boy begging to see his mom and dad. His mind was blank. This was all too much for him. He was just a kid like these students, he had no idea what to do and his incompetence could get them all killed. A saviour came in the form of another adult who was clearly braver and smarter than him, hopefully a well-versed dragon handler too. The shield that he conjured made the wind gentler, and Carson jolted out of his reverie. "Rennervate," he said calmly, pointing his wand at the Hufflepuff. He pulled her up by the hand (missing a finger) and spoke to the group, taking note of Aurora's order. "Yes, never mind the dragons' eyes or starting a fire, you guys get inside the building. Minjae, keep everyone safe. They won't hurt you if I'm not with you." At least, he noticed that the hooded people were only firing spells at him and his coworkers like crazy. He could not go with them and risk another one take an attack meant for him. He gestured toward the shelter and added a protective shield between the path and the two dragons. "Go! This way! Protego!"
