Conley had never been one to enjoy the Ministry opening events. They were often loud, stuffy affairs and the only one he had really enjoyed the bowling party that they had hosted a few years ago. But then, Conley did enjoy bowling so that was probably the core reason he had enjoyed it. Tonight he had an entirely different reason for not wanting to be here and it was standing right next to him. As a department head, Conley had to be here. It was mandatory. As an Ambassador, his husband Sachin, did not have to be here. In fact, Conley had thought it best that Sachin stay home this evening. A spirited argument had ensued and, as evidenced by the fact that Sachin was here with him, Conley had lost.

”I still think this a bad idea,” he muttered softly to Sachin as they made their way into the Atrium. It was all he was going to say on the matter because clearly, his husband was one stubborn donkey. He had already known about the changes to the space and some of the physical changes that had happened to the Ministry, but it was still shocking to see. So shocking in fact that he had stopped walking and just looked. This. Was. Not. Good.

He glanced over at Sachin and then, despite his exasperation with the man, reached over and took his hand. If they were going to be here, they were going to be here together. Thankfully he only had one new employee to meet this year and in fact, it wasn’t even a new face. In the past he would have made a point of finding Brody, saying hello and then leaving. Tonight? Well, they were pretty much here until the bitter end. Hopefully this year it wouldn’t end in floo powder and goo.
