Screams from somewhere else in the maze reached her ears and even though she only could make out a couple of words... 'Killed, Her, We're all dead'. It was waaaaay more than enough to strike fear into this eleven year old's heart. Who was dead?! What was happening?!

There was the clucking once again. This time much louder and much more closer than it had been. Her heart was already racing from all the shouting and this wasn't helping. Rusty was yanking at his harness trying to pull her away from the noise causing her to stumble.

And there it was. Right in her face. All she could remember before she hit the ground, HARD, was Rusty's loud squeaks and him running around her, tangling her up in the lead he was attached to. The other was the Cockatrice's face that was much to close to her face.

Nothing else registered in her head as she laid there on the ground.
