She had to keep repeating this because if she didn’t her anxiety would act up. Having something to do helped, however. Just seizing the rocks and bringing them closer to her gave her something to touch and feel that anchored her to reality and kept her from wanting to panic. With the last rock in her hand, she squeezed it, letting the rough edges calm her. This in turn helped her to put an answer together before she raised her free hand. “It’s a sign, I guess, of something that’s going to happen or will happen in the future.
