Entering the arena, Naya gave an enthusiastic, “Hello Headmaster”. This was going to be an exciting day. More dueling tips and things to learn. Duels to watch. Yep. Naya was all in. Since she was first, she could pick her spot and she did. Naya put down her bag and waited for the next group of students to arrive. This was going to be awesome.

"Evening, Lindsay. Quite chipper this evening I see." It was always refreshing to see his students showing up to the lessons ready to learn and jump into the thick of things. Of course, today's lesson was different in that they already more or less knew what they were getting into, but he was glad to see it left the girl no less enthused.

Not wanting to seem rude, he gave Headmaster Trent a smile “Good evening Headmaster”. Seeing as nothing had been written on the blackboard, he sat there and waited for the lesson to being.

"Good evening Jones. I'll have to ask you to move closer. The seats in the stands are for the duel, not for sitting during the class. There are plenty of spots here by Lindsay."

Why the boy would choose to move all the way was beyond him but as it wouldn't serve him well once the lesson started, there was no need to leave him there. Come on, move it over.

"Headmaster Trent! Did someone tell you about Salazar Slytherin roaming around in the dungeons?" he called as the man was on the other side of the stage "....He was very rude. Told me to bow before him and all that" he 'pffft' and rolled his eyes. Like Minjae was going to bow for anyone when they were not in a duel! ....Well, his grandparents were an exception.

Anyway, he was pumped up for todays lesson and hoped that they weren't going to waste too much time before they could duel.

He was about to return the boy's greeting...when he said that.

Suddenly, the man's face fell and he looked anything but pleased. "You've seen him, too?" Try as he did, the Headmaster hadn't managed to run into any of the founders the students had reported seeing but it sounded like they were still going around causing problems...like the problems that saw to the destruction of his arena.

"You're not required to bow to him, or anyone else here, outside of duels. Do be careful, though." He had yet to know what they wanted or the full extent of what they were capable of.

Also, she wanted to duel a professor and secretly hoped it would be Schmoe.

“Good afternoon, Headmaster.’’ Without any further greeting, she proceeded to find a place to be. Was she nervous about duelling? No. In fact, it sent slivers of anticipation waving through her. Claudine was more than looking forward it. While she waited and her thoughts on the activity to come, she absently stared at a bluebell torch, watching the flame flicker.

"Good evening, Blaze." Calm, cool and collected as always. Most times, it didn't seem like anything bothered the Slytherin and it was quite the trait to be coveted in this climate where founders were apparently running loose. He needed more calm, cool and collected students. Ones that would stop and think when they saw dead people walking around. Ones that weren't likely to do what they said. Here's to looking at you Grantham.

The Ravenclaw was slightly annoyed that she had gotten there before her people and decided to wait somewhat close but not too close to the stage. Close enough that she wasn't standing out by being on her own, but also not too close that she might get hit by a poorly aimed spell or question.

And no, she hadn't signed up for duelling that year. She had her reasons.

Catherine side-eyed all those who were already there and started wondering who would be duelling that day and how said duels would possibly go.

Hmmm...

Ah the silent Ravenclaw. Were it not for the fact that words sometimes escaped her lips and that she did verbally perform the spells required thus far for the term, the Headmaster may have thought her inaudible. It would've been like dealing with another Spence, only in this case he wouldn't have been forewarned. Malachi returned a polite nod to her, not missing where she'd chosen to stand. Not the most social, was she?

Why had she thought they'd just have a class in here?

Isla was TERRIFIED of dueling.

"Hello, Headmaster," she said, a slight tremble in her voice. She knew it was super silly to be this terrified of in-class dueling, but she was. She just couldn't help it. She had almost no confidence that she could face off against someone and fire off spells just as quickly as the dummies in class did. Nevertheless, she hung around. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all...

How curious.

Malachi watched the Slytherin enter the arena and heard the quiver in her voice. It left him just a tad concerned. "You alright, Bellchant?" He asked, the sincerity and concern both quite evident in his tone. It was duelling. More than half the students had been eager to GET to it. It made it easier to forget the apprehension some held toward it. "It'll be fine." She had his word.

Her definition of fine might have made all the difference in such a promise but as far as he could help it, she wouldn't go home in pieces. Perfectly fine.

Inwardly, though, there was a lot of cringing.

"Hullo, Headmaster, sir." A subdued Phoebe James took her place near Bernie.

And another. Yikes.

"Chin up, James. It won't end up like last time." He remembered how....frustrated the girl had gotten. Resorting to physical violence...the embarrassment that had set in. Honestly, he was half sure she'd have skipped this lesson and taken the resulting detention. But here she was.

"You'll do great." Again, this was dependent on the student's definition but for him, she'd do great if she remained conscious. Easy enough, yeah?

And even less happy about the duelling part. A part of him knew that he wasn’t going to succeed in this, uh, class but an even larger part of him knew that it was still important.

And that was why he was here.

Pausing by the door, the Prefect took a moment to look around the setup of the room, a look of clear dread displayed on his face. This wasn’t fun. This wasn’t going to be fun. In fact, it was only making him subconsciously fidget with his hands more than he normally would. Mostly to give his hands something to do.

"Hello, Headmaster," he said quietly, shuffling forwards and away from the door. Smile? Not today. Because he was only just focusing on something else properly. There was a STAGE in the room. A STAGE!

Was it too late to leave?

Oh Merlin, a third. Three in a row had to be a sign. A sign of what, he hadn't a clue but the man's concern seemed to be going nowhere anytime soon.

Had so many of his students really remained so apprehensive? Most of the lessons leading up to this one had been in an attempt to get them prepared for the "final showdown" as it were but now the man was wondering how well of a job he'd actually done with that.

"I appreciate you trying to hold it together, Dakest." It could be worse. He'd seen the boy mid-panic before. This, yeah this could be worse. He'd take this...whatever this was.

As such, she made her way to the dueling arena. There was some hesitance, knowing that last time she was here there was some sort of Godric Gryffindor impersonator present.

She peered inside as a precaution before making her way in. "Hello, Headmaster," and then moved along. The place looked as if it had been untouched. Thanks to herself and Eiji, of course. Your welcome, Headmaster Trent. Nina would be taking all credit in the form of praise and favoritism.

One of his...was he allowed to say it? Favourites weren't meant to be a thing. He'd never admit it, but he did quite like this one. "Thanks again for your help in the arena, Castillo. It was much appreciated." With what a mess it had all been, Malachi was sure his heart would've failed him entirely and he'd be in Mungo's right now recovering.

It still baffled him how readily some of the students listened to perfect strangers not meant to be walking anymore. It made him happier to have students like her.

Whitney entered the area with this thought in mind. Which was fitting, considering the 'mood lighting' that was going on. She picked a spot close to front of the gathering since she had signed up to duel and being closer to the front would make it easier to reach the stage. Thinking ahead, this one was.

This one got a raise of his brow. "It wouldn't hurt to offer acknowledgement when you enter a room and find others there." As much as the words were a suggestion, the tone and the look Malachi gave the girl was enough to convey its true meaning. It was something he hoped she would remember the next time she came to his lesson and one he hoped she would promptly remedy.

A simple "good evening" was all that was needed. It wasn't difficult.

The ash blond youth lion was though ready and eager to attend another DADA lesson. Entering the arena Cole was hugely relieved to see no dummies anywhere in sight. It was a relief. Shooting Headmaster Trent a big smile he greeted "Good afternoon Headmaster!" before he walked over to stand next to Claudine with a whisper. "Hi Claudine, are you excited for the dueling later?"

"Evening, Vance. You look quite ready for the duel." It was a nice change from the several students who'd walked in looking like the sky was falling and the world was coming to an end. He hoped the boy's high spirits would serve him well later during the duel. If nothing else, it couldn't be worse than what occurred with the dummies.

Though he would point out that it was not so much heart as it was mindful self preservation. So he had shuffled some things around a bit and was now here, and entirely for the dueling focus that the headmaster had placed on the term.

Sauntering into the arena, his chest puffing out a bit recalling what he had accomplished here, he nodded his head towards the headmaster and moved to take a spot beside Nina while he waited for things to get started.

And the other Slytherin he had to thank for helping to get this place back into proper form--and for using his brain. One might have thought something like that was...expected but his students had proven otherwise.

"Evening Rasting, good work with the arena." He and Castillo had done a good job helping the younger offenders. They didn't have to, but he was glad they did anyway.

Speaking of offenders, here came one of them now. He hoped the boy had learned his lesson and wouldn't go blindly destroying school property in future. It wouldn't not go over as lightly next time.

"Evening, Simpson."

"Hello headmaster," The blonde greeted cheerfully, offering the man a smile and a wave. She figured he had a LOT on his plate being headmaster and all, so she was always EXTRA kind to him on account of the fact he deserved it.

Spotting Catherine, Cece moved over in her direction and gave her a friendly nudge in greeting. "Hi!" Was she looking forward to this lesson, too?

His growing Precious Bean #3. He suspected by the end of the year, the title would be gone entirely. Kids, they just kept doing that growing thing. Even his son was doing that growing thing. It was the absolute wurst.

"Evening Summers. Keep that up and you'll win regardless of the outcome." Meaning the chipper attitude she'd walked into the arena with. Not everyone was quite so...enthused about this evening, so it was nice to see those who were.

So here she was, next to Phoebe. Bernie didn't even GREET the Headmaster though, at least not verbally. She just nodded to him and remained quiet and still. She didn't want any trouble today, just a chance to duel.

And the second offender. There was a part of the Headmaster that went on edge when the girl walked into the room. Some protective inner voice that wanted her to leave before she could break anything else but...Malachi suspected she had learned her lesson, even just a little bit. Enough to not destroy school property. Perhaps even enough to acknowledge that Godric Gryffindor walking the castles was a sign something was WRONG and not the saviour sent to usher them into the new era of schooling.

Nothing good ever came when the dead started walking. He returned her nod, cautious but willing to give her a second chance.

With the last of the students now present, it was time to begin. As was the custom--one he hoped most of them had taken the time to learn by now--Malachi flicked his wand and the door slammed shut. It would remain shut and any students on the other side would see him after.

"I hope you're all as excited for this evening's duels as I am." Between the students and the professors, it was sure to be interesting. But we've got our lesson first and a few last minute things to tighten up before we get to that. I want everyone to spread out. Get yourself arms length from your classmates. Enough to support a wide range of movement." So they wouldn't end up smacking each other in the face.

No dummies today. It was, as he'd been saying in all their lessons, the big leagues. No one would shove them for bowing wrong, but he hoped Recard was ready because he suspected many hex marks by the end of it.

"Let's get in some stretches. Loosen your muscles. It'll likely come in handy for a few of you." Afterall, duelling was not standing perfectly still, upright for its duration. It sometimes involved ducking, rapid side steps, whatever it took to get away from that next spell.

"Arms out, begin moving them in a clockwise circular motion for 15 counts. When you're done, counter-clockwise for 15. Get your shoulders moving." He demonstrated for those who...likely hadn't done an exercise on their entire life.

[b]"Then, while bending, right arm left leg, left hand stretched upward. Switch, left arm right leg, right arm stretched up. I want 20 of these. Both arms make one set."

OOC: Had an unexpected Sunday but it's time to get the class going! We're beginning with some warm up, shoulder moves and all that. The lesson has officially started. If you'd still like to join, just jump in! You don't have to announce being late, y'know...unless you want to

I'll hopefully be moving us again in 36 ish hours.
