It might require cutting up a shirt to make it look more ragged and piratey, which he was sure wouldn't make his maman super happy, but it would work. The eyepatch... he could make something out of paper probably though it wouldn't look great. He raised his hand. "I'd need a hat. I don't have any hats that look like a pirate hat." Though he really SHOULD. "And an eyepatch and a parrot and a sword." Not a REAL one of course but like a wooden one. Or plastic like you can get in a store. Or foam, that would be fun. That was something he could make out paper too if he had to but if they were talking about transfiguration here he would prefer something a bit cooler if possible. The parrot, too, obviously he wanted a fake one. A stuffed parrot to sit on his shoulder. And... he was pretty sure that was all he needed for his pirate costume.

Leaning back against the desk as he smiled at Lex to go first. ”Parrot, Patch and Pirate hat.” He chuckled at all of the p’s listed. ”Probably need some form of clothes there too though, perhaps some tall leather boots to keep your feet dry out on the ocean.” He grinned at his great-nephew before moving on.

It even brought a small smirk to her face as she admired her work.

Then she was back in the real world as the lesson moved on. Claudine didn’t need to look at her sketch again and her hand went into the air to await her turn. When it came, she provided, “I’d need a paintbrush.” Since she wasn’t a painter, and was still on the fence about that, she didn’t own any. One could be sourced from the Art Room, however...

”A paintbrush, Miss Blaze? Do you already have the clothes you would need in your wardrobe? Does anything need to be modified?” With paint or stains etc, because transfiguring paint stained shirts would be a better option than ruining a school shirt. He didn’t think her parents or the Headmaster would be impressed with that option.

But how was she going to get all of that? Her ballet shoes were at home. She didn't even have the rest of what she'd listed. Not in those colors, at least. Not to mention the fact that she didn't own anything that resembled a muggle-style fairy wand.

She raised her hand. "I didn't really get that far ahead in my thinking. I don't even have any of the materials I need, but I guess some of it could be made with art materials," she suggested. As for the rest of it? She had no idea. "Can some of my clothes be transfigured into different articles of clothing?" If not, she had zero sewing talent.

”Ah, not too worry, Miss Bellchant. We have magic.” His eyes lit up, and he was definitely smiling, a smile that grew even more at her next statement. ”Ah, you have asked to correct question, for that is the next step. So keep that thought in mind for a few minutes.” See, transfiguration could be useful! Did they see that?

And if not... she'd have to like, transfigure her headband to have ears, she supposed. It would not be as cool as being--- LOOKING--- just like a wizarding cat.

”Human transfiguration is a very complex part of the subject, NEWT level and higher.” Carwyn said with a smile. ”If I was to transform you into a kneazle, you would act and think like one until you were changed back; so unless you work hard to become an animagus that is not a likely solution I’m afraid.” He added, almost as an afterthought, ”Remember, if you go down that path of working towards being an animagus, that you may not have a kneazle form.” He had hoped for a cat form when he had been younger, and it hadn’t happened. His form was nothing like a cat, though that didn’t mean he didn’t adore his actual animagus form. It was part of who he was.

The Ravenclaw raised her hand. "For my cheerleading costume, I could get some pom poms to carry around. Maybe transfigure something to attach them to a hair tie or something so I can keep them on my wrists without having to actually HOLD them," she explained. That was actually...very intriguing. Maybe she'd look in to it.

It seemed that a few of the students were more interested in the props for their costumes, rather than the costume itself. He should have known. He would go ahead with the lesson planned, before seeing which props he could help them out with specifically. He nodded at the seventh year. ”Pom poms and what kind of shoes. Miss Gladin? Do you have the full outfit already?” He believed they often had their hair up in bunches, tied with matching ribbons if his granddaughter was anything to go by.

That was pretty exciting. "I'll need a pretty intricate dress," Avalon said after raising her hand, gesturing to the feathered phoenix gown she sketched. And it would definitely have to burn like a real phoenix. "I'd also need to charm it to catch on fire somehow. Or at least look like it's on fire." But she didn't quite know how to do that, other than by using bluebell flames. And blue fire was not the look she was going for. Perhaps she'd have to ask Professor Fuller-Thompson after she was done transfiguring her dress.

He was hopeful, Avalon… but truly it depended on what they had in mind and how close they could get the design before the weekend. However, his door would be open this week if any of the students were looking for extra help. ”A dress, on fire.” Hmnm, not on fire, but they could see about emulating fire. They didn’t want to cause more destruction to the castle when they were currently attempting to finish cleaning it up. ”We can work on that if you would like, after you have organised the dress. He was sure with Professor Fuller-Thompson they could work something out.

"I would need some paints and some fake blood... oh and some other materials." If he was going to do a Frankenstein Teacher, he was going to make sure it was done right.

”What other materials, Mr Simpson? What would the actual outfit consist of?” He nodded encouragingly. He would need specifics if he was going to transfigure the main parts of his outfit afterall.

Carwyn blinked a little at the name thermocol, and wasn’t entirely sure he knew what that was… was that a crafting material? ”Perhaps we could look into transfiguring your crown, along with the rest of your outfit. What else would you need, Miss Parker?” Afterall, saying she needed a crown didn’t tell him anything about the character she would want to dress up as. He smiled at her encouragingly.

She looked at Cole with regret and mouthed, “I’m sorry”. She didn’t have time to dwell on things because there was another question presented to the class. Naya raised her hand and began to list the items that she would need for her costume.

”I will need a dress, blouse and ruby slippers. For my accessories, I’ll need a basket, a stuffed dog and ribbons for my hair.” She thought that was everything that she would need.......hopefully.

No, Miss Lindsay you didn’t draw attention to Mr Vance sleeping. He did that all on his own, not to worry.

He nodded, guessing from the ‘ruby slippers’ where she was going with this outfit and smiled. His older sister had introduced him to that old muggle musical when he had still been young and it had a special place in his heart with his other memories of Bethan. ”Would that dress be gingham, by any chance Miss Lindsay?” He was smiling and nodding obviously happy with the wide variety of outfits and costumes they had thought up on such short notice.

Could she be that beautiful in the costume? She assumed probably not, but she was going to enjoy being her either way.

When the second question came her hand went up. "Well professor, I just need robes really, I could transfigure them into a tight black long dress since Morticia Adams really only wore that one style dress. I'd need to charm my hair black, it is long enough I think." She checked her hair length for a moment and thought maybe she needed just a bit longer.

"For the shoes, I think I have some black heels that could work. All I really need is someone to be Gomez to go with the theme." It was an afterthought that maybe she should have said that part, but it was out and something she thought would be great.

What friend would do this?

Well, Miss McCarthy had it all worked out, including the wonderful part about transfiguration playing a part in the outcome. ”That sounds like an excellent plan, Miss McCarthy.” He said, proudly nodding.

The vest, the boots and the belt. Oh, and the hair! That was important. If he had the wrong hair, he could be mistaken for a different character.

Heath's hand went up, and he said, "I already have a shirt and trousers I could use, but for an accurate Luke Skywalker costume, I'd need a wig or a charm to make my hair lighter. I'd also need a long vest-type thing, black boots and a utility belt." Then he realized he forgot to name the most important thing.* "Oh! And a lightsaber - or at least something that could be turned into a lightsaber."

There, was that everything? He checked the picture again. Yeah, that was it. He'd just... go back to being quiet now.

”Sounds like you have a good plan there, Mr Jones.” The tall man replied, giving him an encouraging nod and a smile. ”You can charm your hair lighter and longer if needed.” He smiled, charms were so important for good costumes - he may be a Transfiguration lover but that didn’t mean he didn’t appreciate charms too.

That was more his younger sister's and brother's type of thing, and he could even see his mum dressing up Aiden. But Gunnar? No, thanks.

Gunnar would never purposely be disrespectful to a teacher though, even if the spirit of this lesson was totally wasted on him. He wouldn't mind working on some clothing transfiguration, he supposed, but he also did not want to wear a costume. That part wasn't mandatory, was it?

And because he wasn't into Halloween costumes, the seventh year was really kind of stuck on what to draw. He didn't want to not participate, but... eh. He idly sketched away on his parchment, eventually forming a man... in a nice suit. That sort of transfiguration would be useful, he supposed. But he would not need any extra supplies, so just kept silent for now as he casually put a few finishing touches on his sketch.

Mikey took him out to the odd party dressed as a ninja a few years in a row to great candy achievement success. But at eighteen he wasn't very into it.

He was into Transfiguration.

So, he scribbled down the first costume idea that popped into his head-- vampire. And the items flowed with it. He would need to darken his hair a shade or two. Al would need to elongate his canines to fangs. And, perhaps if he had the time, he might even wash out the rosiness of his skin to something paler, more devoid of life. The clothes? Well. Al had a fitted suit that might work. Black seemed safe.

The changes would be mostly cosmetic.

He didn't raise his hand to comment. The other students had far more to do than his costume.

The two seventh year men hadn’t said anything in response for the lesson, but it didn’t matter too much to Carwyn as they had both actively listened and drawn some form of outfit when he had asked them too. As far as he was aware that was the important part so far. That and taking part in the actual transfigurations which were going to come next. Yes please, young men. He smiled at them both in turn and nodded. He saw them, he knew they were participating. Yes.

As he turned away from looking at the Head Boy, he finally stood up straight and moved to stand next to his hobbit-footed clothes rail. Really, it was nothing too special, but he liked the Halloween-type touch the hairy feet added as they poked out from underneath the purple material. ”As I hope you have realised, for the rest of today’s seminar, we are going to work on transfiguring your outfits. I have the material’s here for us to work on the main items of clothing and your shoes. If you have other props, we can move onto them if we have time - or my office will be open if you wish help with the props later this week.” He was smiling again. Whoops.

He reached up to pull the cloth from the rail, showing a rail at least an arm span and a half long willed with various pieces of clothing; bright oranges and faded greys, shrunken trousers and oversized jumpers, gawdy patterns and in your face designs of every colour, shape and size stared back at you. There was a hanging basket at one end with paper plates stacked high within it.

”Now, depending on how many clothing items you have to your outfit, will depend on if you take one or two pieces from the rail.” If they had a dress like Avalon or Chloe then one piece would be enough. If like Heath or Gunnar they needed multiple pieces to their outfit then they could take two or three. Ideally, they should start with a maximum or two, and take further items from the rail if they succeeded in transfiguring both initial items. “Don’t pay attention to the size or the style, remember that neither will matter once you have transfigured your own outfit.”

”I want you to take one or two pieces of clothing and two paper plates back to your desk.” He said with a nod as he motioned to the rail and stepped out of the way towards the board. ”Come and get your items now and then we will move on. If you feel better standing, that is okay for the rest of the lesson. There is plenty of space for everyone.”

As they moved to get the items that they would need, Carwyn turned to the board and wrote up on it;

”Now, I know that most of you will have come across pedestis already over your years but I want to see you all create a pair of shoes or boots that will compliment and complete your outfit. Whether that be dress shoes, high heels, ruby slippers or pirate boots.” He looked around the room as he placed a paper plate on his desk. ”The incantation is simple pe-des-tis and all it takes is concentration and a tap of your wand.” He did so, turning the paper plate into a polished brown Oxford men’s shoe, the leather detailing that the style was so well known for shown off as he tilted the shoe to show the class.

”I’m sure you remember however, that this charm is created from the sole up meaning that it can form perfectly around your feet - a handy trick if you find your feet have swollen up or are an awkward size.” As he held the newly transformed shoe in his right hand, he picked up a second from the base of the clothes rail. ”However, this-” the second show was black so that they were distinguishable. ”Is an actual shoe of mine and as you can see - my transfigured shoe is much smaller.” A good inch or two, too small.

”This is why it is important to stand on your plates, even if you would prefer not too. When you estimate the size of your feet, most of the time you will be wrong.” Not always, maybe not if you practiced consistently but most of the time it was simply easier. ”Thus, only ending up with sore feet as you dance the night away.” Did they see now, that it was better to stand on their plates? Even if it meant standing in their socks for five minutes of the lesson.

”Okay, start with your shoes, and we will move on in five or so minutes to the main part of your outfits.” He moved to put the shoes in his own hands down. ”As always if you have any questions, let me know.”
