the sky is always there for me ☀ ☁ heavy hearts like heavy clouds

Mathys did not know where to begin. First there was the fact that he had not anticipated a need to further explain what the word defenseless meant, but Mademoiselle James was not exemplifying it and nearly paid the price. He could not tell just which gargoyle it was that had taken a tumble in the rose bush either, but at least there was no need for concern there as their hides were durable and anything the rose bush attempted would barely leave even a scratch. The rose bushes were likely to do more damage to themselves in the process. He did take note of Mademoiselle Gladin making an effort, so at least she was making herself useful rather than sulking over spilled milk. Ce qui est fait est fait, oui?

Scuffing up his Hebridean Black boots as he hurried about the rose garden, bopping a gargoyle sharply on the nose here and there, he almost found himself feeling sorry for the Hogwarts headmaster. Not just because the foreign press had seemed more accurate than previously thought in its portrayal of its students, but for the storm that was about to be brought right to his doorstep.

He knew his headmistress and he knew to what lengths she would seek retribution. Detention would have been too optimistic a prospect.

His posture stiffened a bit hearing Mademoiselle Dantes, and while her intentions were (hopefully) good ... it was simply not the time nor the place to attempt brown nosing with his headmistress. Especially in the context of having another student wand pointed at her. "Not now, Mademoiselle Dantes," he warned in a sharp whisper while shaking his head. With a swift curl of his fingers and fluid backhanded wave, the man conjured a luxury towel in her favorite color and scent, passing it off to her in the next stride.

Mademoiselle Blaze was doing absolutely nothing to help her situation, not a single thing, and he was about to take drastic action when he saw her foot lift. Though soon Mademoiselle James was asking him about...petting the gargoyles?

Taken aback by the request, it was only then that he noticed Monsieur Dakest was giving a belly rub to ... Hibosqu, if he was not mistaken. There was only the briefest wave of relief to wash over him as he offered the first year an encouraging nod. "Oui, you may." His eyes narrowed on Monsieur Vance. "Gargoyles are not deceitful beasts. Zey would do no such thing."

Before they were all dispelled from this garden. As much as he would have wanted to continue his lesson and perform the task he had gathered them here to do, he knew it was a lost cause for tonight. There was no way they would be able to continue and it weighed his chest in lament.

Sighing, Mathys patted the head of another of the gargoyles as he made his way around the garden. Kneeling here and there, he began collecting the discarded wands he happened upon. "You will each get your wands back once we are back inside ze castle," he assured them, though he expected there to be protests from some.
